Once more I need to talk about Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun! Specifically about Mephisto.
As such, manga spoilers ahead!
I've been thinking of the Scala exam a lot recently, and about Mephisto's reaction to Iruma. I realized that this is the first time in the manga that we see someone contrast Iruma from Delkira instead of compare him to.
If you think about it, it is often repeated through the series about how similar Iruma is to Delkira. Asmodeus saw him as Delkira during his first evil cycle when sitting on the throne. Repeatedly Sullivan sees Delkira in Iruma. Amduscias saw Delkira in Iruma during the musical festival. We are pretty consistently reminded the similarities between Iruma and the previous Demon King. It's kinda like we start to see Delkira as this amazing, never wrong being.
I think that is why it is so shocking when we get Mephisto's view point on the very beginning of Delkira as Demon King. For the first time, we see someone viewing Delkira in a negative light. We see Delkira be greedy and selfish enough that someone was essentially fired from the position that they had held for centuries. Mephisto was cast off on the whims of Delkira.
I think it is so interesting that it takes hundreds of chapters to get to this point. When I first read it, it felt wrong. Like 'that's not right.' Iruma is compared so often to this person that seeing something negative about them feels off putting. It's a reminder that Delkira was not perfect.
I also think that is why the conversation between Mephisto and Iruma is so beautiful. Mephisto realizes how different Delkira and Iruma are from each other, and because of those differences, Mephisto sees a future king in Iruma. That Iruma cares so much that he would never cast aside anybody. Everybody is important to him no matter who they are. This is the first time we finally get someone looking at Iruma as a future demon king because he is different from Delkira.
No one means ill by comparing Iruma to Delkira. Instead everybody means the highest respect by doing that, but there is something so refreshing about Iruma being seen as a future leader for being Iruma. For being greedy in a different way. Instead of making it all about himself and his desires, his greed stems from wanting everyone to be happy and fulfilled.
I was not expecting this outcome from the Scala exam. Initially I was very wary of Mephisto, but now I've come to love his character. He just wants to feel needed again, and Iruma offers that without even realizing it. Iruma is so clueless to the impact he has on the demons around him.
I hope my rambling was coherent. Basically, I am really excited for the series to continue and to see how this all progresses. To see Iruma continue to make a name for himself, as himself. This manga is just so beautifully done.
I finally got Procreate! What a better way to break it in the doing all the sticky note drawings I’ve done at work for Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-Kun. I’m still figuring it out, but you know, I’m pretty happy with my beginning attempts.
I read the mafia AU, and it's got me thinking thoughts about shipping a certain ship :)
To add onto the Kalego thing :')
In the anime (I'm getting through the manga rn) there's a handful of times where Kalego is like ???? Why WOULDN'T you summon me? In a very 'you SHOULD' have summoned me way.
Then him picking out the mentors for the harvest festival.
THEN Iruma finally popping up with the seed of beginnings and him being like !! I don't care about the plant! Are you hurt? Are you going to forefit? It gives worried dad energy then 😩
Man I just love Kalego, I think
Right?! I just love how he goes from so against the idea of being Iruma's familiar to getting genuinely annoyed when he isn't used as a familiar. And the small moments that show he worried, like the harvest festival 😭 I also just really love him
I need to rant about Kalego's character progression from Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun! And I have no one to talk to about it.
Spoilers ahead (specifically manga spoilers)
Okay. We all know how at the start of it all, Kalego despises Iruma. The second Kalego becomes Iruma's familiar he is furious and tries to rebel and even get Sullivan to break the contract. (All within episode 2).
The next time we see Kalego interact with Iruma is in front of Camu-Camu's store where he clearly tells Iruma that he will never act as his familiar. To never call on him in any circumstance. Right?
That's why, when we get to the Heartbreaker exam, I want to cry. Before the exam, the only time Kalego is ever called as his familiar is when other people make Iruma summon Kalego. We never see Iruma ever actually use Kalego as his familiar. This also takes place after the first year contract was broken (so that Kalego would not be Iruma's familiar anymore which horribly backfires for Kalego).
During the Heartbreaker, Iruma is the one to summon Kalego. He basically begs Kalego not to harm anyone, to which Kalego looks at him and asks if it was a command (as demon and their familiar).
But then we get the part that makes me want to cry. In one moment, Iruma's danger sense goes off, and he feels immense bloodlust. Without thinking, Iruma calls on Kalego, for the first time actually making use of his familiar, and Kalego, who swore that first time to never do Iruma's bidding, immediately goes to Iruma's side to fight off a threat that he hadn't even known about. There was no hesitation or complaining. Kalego knew that whatever made Iruma actually call on his familiar was a danger to be taken seriously.
Sometimes I think about the fact that if the familiar contract had not been renewed, Iruma would have been taken. Kalego would not have been there to protect Iruma in that moment.
Then we get the 13th of Betrayal! Keeping in mind that at this point Kalego has already talked to Narnia who hinted that Iruma was a human, and we learn that the Naberious klan finds humans to be utterly repulsive and dispicable creatures. So Kalego should and probably did have those beliefs (maybe Balam's interests in humans helped him unconsciously curb that bias he was raised in).
The thing is, though, that with that conversation very fresh in his mind, Kalego enters the building again, turns a corner, sees Iruma laying on the ground in the middle of the hallway with Asmodeus kneeling beside him, and SPRINTS to Iruma's side to make sure he was okay. Like I want to cry. This man who hated Iruma at first, sees Iruma in a position that makes him instantly think that he was hurt, and ran to check on him. The fact that Nishi draws genuine worry on Kalego's face in that moment is so beautiful.
Then I can't end this rant without mentioning the conversation between Kalego and Balam. The fact that Kalego wanted confirmation that Iruma was a human while still being able to hold onto plausible deniability so he can continue to protect Iruma fully? Absolutely amazing. His character has changed so much while maintaining his usual personality and demeanor.
Iruma has so much impact on every single demon around him including Kalego. It's just so beautifully done! I love this series a normal amount.
something something history rhymes
Did some more redraws of Mairimashita Iruma Kun becaue Osamu Nishi's art style when it comes to demons in the wicked cycle (espesially Irumi) is just really pretty. And I love the contrast of Irumi's comfidence between the first and second time singing with Kuromu
I had a sudden epiphany regarding Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun, and I need to talk about it. It does contain spoilers for the manga!
In the manga, it is pretty obvious that Iruma has some sort of connection to Derkila (spelling based off the official translation), but it is not told to us what that connection is. BUT I was thinking about it today and made some connections. Namely Ali-San.
I always thought that Ali's full name, Alikred, had to be important somehow. They way he says it at first is so solemn. So I took a second really look, and it felt like someone slapped upside the head. Alikred is just Derkila backwards. Maybe others noticed that, but it just hit me.
In the manga, before the Heartbreaker arc, Iruma uses the mana readout machine, and everyone thinks it broke when he used it. Later, though, we learn that it actually has Derkila's seal and accordingly to Baal, this means Iruma has Derkila's mana.
Little things start to make sense when you look back at it then. Like how the first time Ali-San uses his mana to have Iruma experience his evil cycle, Iruma comes up with the plan to open Royal one, AKA the classroom that Derkila used during his time at Babylus. One that has been held in perfect suspension for Derkila and no one else to use.
Once Royal one is opened, he sits on Derkila's throne, and Asmodeus alludes to the fact that in that moment, Iruma looked like Derkila.
During the Harvest Festival, Iruma uses the rings mana (and Lied and Clara) to have the Legendary Leaf bloom. When it blooms, he gets a vision of Derkila saying, "So, it's you." At that same time, Ali-San 'goes to sleep.'
Ali-san is not woken up until Amducias plays Purson's trumpet after the musical festival arc. Earlier in that arc, Amducias mentioned that only Derkila could hear their music, but after the Misfits win, they play the trumpet to begin the promotion ceremony. (Amducias also mentions that Iruma reminds them of Derkila for some reason). Overall, it was Amduias's music that woke up Ali-San.
In the end, Ali-San is mostly definitely a part of Derkila. Whether he is actually Derkila, who knows, but I think Ali is more than a manifestation of the mana in the ring. It is really interesting to look back and start to make connections for this idea. The writing is so well done, and I am so excited to see where the manga goes and how everything will be explained one day.
"They bear our marks."
Drew one my favorite two page spreads from the manga. I love the misfit class so much
So I started watching Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun, and immediately loved it enough to bing all three seasons and then get completely caught up on the manga... then start reading it again. I love the queer platonic polycule. I love the sunshine character that is over powered and protective. I love the found family. I love just how much impact Iruma has on everyone he meets. Everything about just makes me so happy and giggly (except the villain I honestly hate him with every fiber of my being but isnt that waht makes it good?) 🩷💚💙
I would love to see some more OC for ✨mairuma!✨
Pls tell me about your OC! Even if you think they cringe or edgy they're still characters you made and they deserve to be sean!
has anyone done this yet
[image description: two images that are both "I had an identity crisis and turned into a goth" memes. Both images have digital drawings from "Mairimashita Iruma-Kun/ Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun". In both images the original profile picture is changed to an official drawing of Iruma and the name of the channel is changed to "notahuman". The first image has normal Iruma on the left side under the word "girly" and with sparkles behind him. On the right is evil-cycle Iruma under the word "goth" and with big dark purple chains behind him. Both versions of Iruma are drawn with bold marker brushes. In the second image aku-doll Iruma is on the left under the word "girly" with pink flowers behind him. On the right is evil-cycle aku-doll Iruma under the word "goth", with a blue pattern and two big transparent dark blue flowers behind him. Both version of aku-doll Iruma have pencil brush lineart and are colored. end description]

Ryuusui has been taking up most of my thoughts recently and while rewatching the special it made me think how him and Iruma are pretty similar
Kiriwo ending up being a creep was a surprise! He seemed so sweet 😔 but this outcome isn’t too bad either 🤷
Also I’m trying to find my style again 😭 it’s been a bit inconsistent lately tbh
he deserves to fly, imagine him having races with lied and purson 💥💥
Like there has to be some kind of spell or prosthetic?? Idk I js want him to be free in the sky
I love clowns so as soon as I saw this on Pinterest I had to draw him
I’m obsessed with him, I need s4 now. I already read the manga I need ppl who know this show guys pls 😭
I’m currently watching “mairimashita iruma-kun” and I can’t get over how similar to kokichi he looks but his personality is a total opposite I had to draw them together

Demon Swap: Sebastian from "Black Butler" and Lord Sullivan from "Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun!"
Imagine if you will, a Ciel who makes his deal with Lord Sullivan, but Sullivan does not require a soul, instead requesting that Ciel become his grandson. This has to be the easiest deal a human has ever struck with a demon, but oh, how mistaken that was.
Ponder perhaps, an Iruma who's soul is sold by his parents to the starving demon Sebastian, only for Sebastian to find, he'd like instead to refine this soul before devouring it, afterall he is a demon a finer tastes, and thus the Butler persona is born.
Ciel returns home with an... estranged relative(?) eager to take Gaurdianship over the newly orphaned earl
Iruma is taken to the demon realm, suddenly placed upon the lap of luxury, with a loyal butler pleased to do whatever he says- only Iruma has no clue what he even wants
Is Ciel safe- Oh yes, definitely, Lord Sullivan is formitable force when he wants to be, and he will tear apart anyone who dares attempt to hurt his grandbaby, and what's more is more than willing to do anything he asks as per their agreement. But oh, oh how Ciel often replays the events of that terrible day, and wishes he perhaps negotiated for different terms for their contract...
Ciel, tries to solve a murder, as Sullivan Fawns in the background ("Oh my goodness look how cute my grandson is!!! He's doing such a good job, don't you think Opera?? I should find him a little detective's outfit, he'd be just precious!!!!!" "NO!")
Iruma meanwhile is far too aware of the fact that he's just glorified wagyu, but you know what? This might as well be how his miserable life ends, he could enjoy it... he supposes... just has to learn how to enjoy things. Thankfully Sebastian is one hell of a butler and knows just what Iruma wants right when he needs it
and of course he helps out behind the scenes at every chance he gets, he's not going to let his snack be discovered by the rest of demon kind afterall. Sometimes not even behind the scenes, school rules be damned, any butler worth his salt goes wherever his master does. Professor Kalego hates him

THESE OPERA SENSEI ILLUSTRATIONS HELLO?!$+($?#?;!!!
Them <333
Shhhhh 😶
Of all the Iruma characters, Jazz genuinely has the worst luck stat like literally I think the music fest is the only arc hes managed to come out of unscathed
Like what, has his money stolen by his brother, loses money in bets all the time, gets saddled with kalego during walter park, gets forced to fight a monster during a terrorist incident, gets sold to a bar, gets eliminated during the harvest fest, loses his money to furfur again, gets tortured,
Like can Orias hang out with him for like one day he desperately needs some luck
I think he'd admit that he can't fly to saboro first. Fact is, mostly Asmodeus, the others would probably treat him with kid gloves and it'd make him uncomfortable and he knows that. Saboro would probably be amazed by his strength and help him with it, mostly by carrying him or challenging him to run on floating platforms instead of flying so they wouldn't be suspicious
Ahhhh i really love interactions between sabro and iruma. Like their relationship is very lowkey and light and it's mostly them hyping each ither or iruma listening to sabro info-dumping and i just love their interactions together. When sabro announced iruma as his rival i was like hhhhhhhhhh why now there'll be a heavy awkwardness whenever they interact but it turned out way better than i expected like that right there is a healthy rivalry and im livin for it
And it would make sense for iruma to go to sabro first between all the other classmates because sabro's first thought will not be "iruma has no wings" naaah the first thing that will come to his mind will either be "he went to battle so young! That's cool!" Or will try to find challenges that puts them on equal grounds like running race instead of flying race
And look!!
Look At That!!!!! He will 100% not mind iruma being wingless if he's already doing this without knowing!! He was not like use your wings he literally picked him up to better see the books high up!!!
They're so cute together and i love them and will behead baal if anything happens to them.
Also i just read your Second Year's Flying Race and it was so cute!!!! And i really love your sabro he has a chaoticness to him that canon sabro does not and it fits the abnormal class vibes
