Percy Jackson The Chalice of the Gods more like Percy Jackson and his undying love for Annabeth Chase
Ok so twinduo. Fantastic start. But royalty. Even better. But VAMPIRES. INCREDIBLE!! Thats the AU that’s basically it SO
Techno is born into a vampire royal coven, his father, ruthless king, has just taken control over a proper kingdom of vampires (vampires in the world have historically been scattered for some time bc they always fought amongst themselves which let humans get the best of them bc humans outnumber vampires like a thousand to one but blah blah conquer power big strong coven and now there's a new small kingdom with the covens swearing their allegiance to one family name in return for protection against extinction. Cool? Cool.) so Techno is a prince!
He’s basically the prince of the vampires. Swag. He’s got his family, his mother, father, older sister, and a twin brother. He ages slowly (vampire genes) into a young teen, being very close to his brother all the while, the two of them nearly inseparable. The kingdom flourishes under actual rule and order and is able to attack other kingdoms and win for blood, thus feeding the citizens and boosting morale. Techno is taught with his brother about the ways of war, of how to fight against human kingdoms for the sake of their people. Techno is very good at these lessons. His brother? Eh not so much but thats ok they’re both the heirs, Techno can have it with his brother at his side.
Peace goes on (in the kingdom of vampires, at least) with war constantly being declared and neighboring kingdoms always being ransacked for blood. Then, unrest happens. One of the covens seeks greater power, and stages a coup. It fails, and they are killed for their efforts, but not without some loss.
Techno’s entire family is killed. He never sees his father, his sister, or his mother get murdered by the traitors, but he does witness his brother’s death. They both fight off attackers and manage to run, but Techno’s brother, still being young, still developing powers, cannot recover from his wounds. Technoblade is lucky, he gets away without, and he tries his best to save his brother, carrying his body down the bloody halls, to no avail. He becomes the last survivor of his coven, the only heir to the throne. People are half hesitant on following him, but also wanting to see what would happen in his rule, because his father was brilliant at war, and surely his fledgling would be the same?
They are right. When the mourning is over, the bodies are buried and Techno is crowned, he declares war, and vows to grow his kingdom and protect them like how he failed to protect his own.
Fast forward. Many years. Maybe a few decades or somethin i dunno. Techno has grown into looking like a young adult now. (Again, vampire genes) He is a merciless conqueror who is taking the world in his palm, kingdom after kingdom, ruler after ruler. He travels with his army, strong loyal vampires willing to kill and take what should be theirs.
Wilbur’s kingdom is next on the chopping block. Phil, the king, sees the threat coming and has known it would come for some time. He and his Queen, Kristin, prepare accordingly. However, Wilbur, often called a pacifist prince, insists there has to be a way to avoid war. He doesn’t want his kingdom to fall into ruin, but doesn’t want to go pissing off those vampires either. He assumes (wrongly, the idiot) that surely the vampire king has reason, and that surely they can make a deal with him. Phil doesnt agree with that plan at all. Wilbur our lovable Idiot doesnt care and sneaks off to try it anyway.
Wilbur somehow manages an audience with the king, Techno. He comes with his identity hidden at first, pleading for humanity, but Techno never had humanity in the first place so that’s a bust. Then he reveals himself, and begins bargaining, arguing that war cannot forever sustain a kingdom that survives off blood, and surely, a trade can be made between kingdoms, so that blood is supplied and peace is secured.
Technoblade doesnt listen to Wilbur’s words. Not for a lack of caring, or a lack of empathy, but because upon seeing Wilbur’s face, he sees the same face that repeats in his dreams every night, the same face he sees in the reflection of water, the same face that has haunted him.
Wilbur, through a sheer fucking stroke of fate, was born with the same face as Techno. He looks exactly like his twin.
Techno agrees to the deal. He agrees to peace in return for a trade, he agrees to it all. But he changes the terms. He will spare Wilbur’s kingdom, on the condition— that Wilbur goes with him. He stays here, within vampire territory, in Techno’s sight. (In his reach, so that he won’t need to lose his brother again.) Wilbur thinks this is a power play, and so agrees (altho cant really say no now can you) and decides to figure out a way to both survive and gain the favor of the king while he’s at it, because while he is known as the Naive Prince, he is also well known for his persuasion.
War efforts halt. Wilbur’s kingdom waits in dread, having gotten a letter from Wil of his situation. They know they can’t provoke the king, because then Wil is in danger, and Wilbur cannot leave, because he is surrounded.
Wilbur tries to settle. He tries to make political connections and tries to not let anyone intimidate him, and he’s a little startled at how easy it is. The servants smile upon him kindly, the soldiers are stern but polite, and Techno is…distant. (But how could you blame him that vampire has got Trauma)
With vampires, magic is also widely believed. With that, comes the idea of reincarnation. Techno wholeheartedly believes that Wilbur is his brother, and for all the efforts he’s made, all the work he’s done to protect his own, the gods have decided to reunite him with his twin. Everyone believes this as well, and so they treat Wilbur like their own prince, albeit this one is human and a little unknowing, but that could always be fixed, with time.
Eventually, Wilbur finds out about this. Techno confronts him, awkward but honest, and Wilbur is fucking terrified. Here is a vampire who thinks he’s his brother, a part of his coven, and that he’s just been reborn to return to him.
He wants out because he knows he’ll be turned into a vampire if he doesn’t act quickly.
However. Techno favors him. Technoblade, the fearsome vampire king, the most dangerous evil in the lands, is favorable towards him. Whatever Wil wants, he gets it. He wants a full course meal made from his home kingdom? The supplies are gathered and dinner is ready by sunset. He wants gold, silver, jewels of any kind? Techno has plenty, all those kingdoms have given great reward and he’ll happily hand them over.
Even someone’s bloody head, Wilbur can ask for it. A vampire noble bothered him, scaring him and telling him he’s a conniving human just trying to gain the throne? He tells Techno of it once, and that noble is never seen again, his head presented to others as an example.
Wilbur, while certainly a glorified prisoner, has power. He has proximity, and maybe with some work, he can even gain trust from his “brother.” With enough acting, with pretending to believe he is Techno’s brother, he can lure this monster into his death and gain victory for mankind.
But here’s the question: Can Wilbur take all the benefits, all the power, and the throne, and manage to return home still human? Or will he fall, choked by his own lies, tempted by a life of absolute power, and become a monster himself?
*don’t say it, don’t say it OKAY I’m saying it:* I’M FEELIN 32. And Alana is feeling 30. Don’t worry we tested everyone! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, I love you all so much 🥰🎂

i’m tired of the “mike wheeler doesn’t deserve will byers” posts because im sorry, are we talking about the same mike wheeler?
the mike wheeler that went out looking for will, not once, but twice, even after being specifically told not to, and even after everyone believed he was dead
the mike wheeler that keeps a binder full of will’s drawings and has them plastered all over his bedroom and basement walls, the mike wheeler who had the biggest smile once he got his hands on will’s art once again
the mike wheeler that defended will and stood up to his bully in front of the entire school
the mike wheeler that would always notice when there was something wrong with will
the mike wheeler that reassured will
the mike wheeler who slept in a hospital chair to not leave will’s side
the mike wheeler that biked all the way across town in the pouring rain to apologize to will after their fight, and when he couldn’t find him ran to the woods because he knew he’d be there
the mike wheeler who said this
and this
you really think this mike wheeler
doesn’t deserve will byers?
would i have loved to see book accurate depictions of the characters? yes. do i adore our show trio and am fucking excited for the amazing representation? also yes.
The reason Annabeth was blonde was literally to fight the dumb blonde stereotype that was popular in 2005 with celebrities like Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson, and Brittney Spears. I was 12 in 2005, and the dumb blonde was an insanely popular media trope. Rick wanted to show that stereotypes of all kinds are unacceptable. That’s why all the kids have ADHD, dyslexia, diverse backgrounds, trauma and quirks that set them apart from other characters in the YA genre. Annabeth was the product of an era, and her physical aesthetics were directly linked to a sexism problem of the time.
You know what the biggest target of abuse is in the US among teens in 2022?
Black girls.
Rick is making an overt point. You will not, under his watch, write off black girls into the same corner. The “sassy ghetto black woman” stereotype needs to end, and especially in a post Ferguson world, it’s more important than ever to showcase a character who defies those stereotypes.
The choice to cast Annabeth as black DOES NOT go against Annabeth as a character. It is the logical next step in her evolution from 2005 book to 2022 screen, and I for one am here for it.
