The reason Annabeth was blonde was literally to fight the dumb blonde stereotype that was popular in 2005 with celebrities like Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson, and Brittney Spears. I was 12 in 2005, and the dumb blonde was an insanely popular media trope. Rick wanted to show that stereotypes of all kinds are unacceptable. That’s why all the kids have ADHD, dyslexia, diverse backgrounds, trauma and quirks that set them apart from other characters in the YA genre. Annabeth was the product of an era, and her physical aesthetics were directly linked to a sexism problem of the time.
You know what the biggest target of abuse is in the US among teens in 2022?
Black girls.
Rick is making an overt point. You will not, under his watch, write off black girls into the same corner. The “sassy ghetto black woman” stereotype needs to end, and especially in a post Ferguson world, it’s more important than ever to showcase a character who defies those stereotypes.
The choice to cast Annabeth as black DOES NOT go against Annabeth as a character. It is the logical next step in her evolution from 2005 book to 2022 screen, and I for one am here for it.
no because the way pjo beat out the queen’s death on the tumblr trending page for a hot second is hilarious
More Sbi ideas I will never actually write into a proper story BUT :
Tommy and Wilbur are princes.
Like really, really, young princes.
And Phil's their dad.
And, don't get me wrong, he's a great dad!
But, he's not always there.
He usually leaves the country (and his kids) under Dream, his trusted advisor, who Wilbur and Tommy don't like at all.
And then, Phil goes missing. Lost at the battlefield.
So Dream takes charge. He tells the citizens that he is searching for their beloved King, but in truth, he really isn't.
So Wilbur takes it into his own hands.
Stealing a horse, a bag of supplies, and carrying Tommy with him (Wilbur doesn't trust Dream with his brother), Wilbur goes in search of Technoblade, retired general, and Phil's friend.
Hopefully Technoblade will be better than Dream.
ppl getting into dsmp in 2022 is craaazzy like. Good luck and my deepest respect. And condolences
Crime Boys Superhero AU, where Tommyinnit was a former child hero, mostly seen as a sidekick to Wilbur, now dead.
Wilbur had been killed by anti-hero Phil after rescuing people from a fire (at least, that's what they want you to think)
A lot of people want Tommy back on field, but without knowing his whereabouts, Tommy stays out of sight, and soon out of mind.
That is, until a new villain turns up. He's dressed like how Wilbur was, and there's a stab wound over his heart.
Most people think of him as simply making fun of the former #1 hero's death.
Tommy knows better.
I wanna put all fanfic authors in one room and just shower them in flower petals and chocolates and a mandatory spa day.
