the question, you see, is not ‘is it too ooc for this character to cry’ but rather ‘what circumstances would push this character to cry’

this is the whump wisdom, go forth and make that character cry

I love how the search function on this site is absolute garbage. I can look up a post word for word and I will NEVER find it

Okay but like… I have this adorable image in my head of babybones Papyrus drawing flowers on Gaster’s hands using the holes in the center.

A comic page showing two skeletons, one is Gaster (in a labcoat and red scarf, with two scars running from his eyes) and the other, a baby, is Papyrus. In the first panel gaster's hand is shown up close, a ring of petals is drawn around the hole in its middle in yellow crayon. Gaster asks "Done?". In the second panel, Gaster is holding papyrus, one arm keeping him propped against his shoulder while the other is stretched out before him. He looks at his hand, pleased, and says "Wonderful! How very very wonderful, thank you papyrus". In the third panel, papyrus excitedly flaps his arms, giggling with joy, and gaster looks startled but happy, trying not to let him fall down. He exclaims "Well, you certainly seems proud of your... Handwork (a simple small headshot of papyrus glaring at him is drawn under the dialogue bubble). In the next panel, Gaster holds papyrus in front of him, looking him straight in the eye and saying "That is good. That is very important". The background is a colourless gradient getting darker and darker as the panels progress. The only tinges of colour being the drawing on Gaster's hand and the red scarf around his neck
A second comic page, this time showing only papyrus. The background is now completely dark and bleak, with all colours subdued and desaturated in the panels. In the first panel, papyrus, now an adult and wearing simple clothes, is sitting on the floor, propped up against a wall, facing away from the camera. He looks lost. Above him Gaster's dialogue continues "...You should never forget that". The second panel is a close up of papyrus' hands, which have a hole in the middle just like Gaster's, as they hold a red scarf with red yarn in the background, implying he's just finished making it himself. There are teardrops marking the fabric.
The last two panels work together as a short sequence, a central shot of papyrus from the back looking down, then throwing the red scarf around his neck, which is the first true vivid colour of the entire page, as the background gradient slowly shifts to a lighter gray.
The third comic panel, showing papyrus doing multiple things. In one instance he's showing off a plate of freshly made spaghetti, as undyne punches the air with pride in the background. In another he's kneeling in the snow, holding a piece of wood building his own sentry station. It looks far from perfect, but he seems happy anyway. In another scene he's closing an electric circuit for a puzzle and cheering as a wall of spikes erupts from the ground. The page also shows papyrus' box of "super special attacks (for undyne only!!!)". There are some bones and a gaster blaster poking through. On the side of the box, scribbled in pen, reads "sans don't touch!" and there's a "no annoying dogs allowed" sticker stuck to it, though it's been half chewed off. Gaster's dialogue, continuing, reads "Because it is one of the most valuable lessons to learn in this life". The illustrations are now in full colour, and the background gets lighter and ligter, shifting now to a blue gradient.
The fourth comic page. In the first panel, papyrus, now in his canon clothes, is viewed from below, we can't see anything above his waist as he stands in front of a mirror in his house. In the mirror, we can see sans sprawled on the sofa, looking half asleep but still giving him a thumbs up. There is sewing equipment litterd across the floor. The following panels, also working as a sequence, show papyrus's face below his eyes. At first he looks uncertain, then he breaks into the toothy grin we know so well. The background keeps getting bluer. Gaster's dialogue continues "Always strive to find joy..."
"In the act of creating" the dialogue ends. The final page of the comic. The background is now blue and bright and fully saturated, as are the colours. It's a single illustration of papyrus as we know him in canon. He's shown from below, looking somewhere far off in the distance. He stands proud, his hands on his hips and his shoulders squared, as his red scarf billows behind him. He's smiling.

Yeah so you could say this got a bit... out of hand
