This is a good theory.
To me it felt like it was written by AI.
I think my simplest overall problem with TUA season 4 (i have multiple) is the fact that it feels like a first draft. there's plotholes, unanswered questions, unnecessary parts and confusing relationships that don't really make sense. but first drafts get edited, season 4 of the umbrella academy clearly was not.
the bare bones of the season are good (the train, the jennifer incident, the timelines leaking into one) but it was missing so many things that shouldve been edited or delved into, like a first draft.
it's honestly such a shame. i, like everyone else, had high hopes for the final season but quite frankly it sucked.
the idea of a clutch purse is nightmarish to me. the whole point of bags was so we could escape the torment of holding things. and now u gotta hold a bag.
Man, we have got to stop treating art like it has an expiration date. That show stopped airing? Doesn’t mean it can’t haunt your every waking thought. Everybody’s into this album, but you don’t have the energy for new music right now? It’ll be waiting for you when you’re ready. That movie’s fifty years old and indie as shit? Incredible, you have the chance to share it with folks who might never otherwise feel that particular punch of delight. Books don’t go bad. Shows inspire fandoms decades after they’ve wrapped up. We’re still looking at cave paintings and statue work from ancient times and letting the joy of creation bring tears to our eyes. That’s the point of art. It’s as close to immortality as we ever get. Why try to give that magic a shelf life?
A spoon's only objective in life is to make soup go upwards, and it knows this. That's why when you put one under a running tap it blasts the water way high. The spoon thinks there's suddenly TONS of soup to deal with and it freaks out.
I swear I find it so annoying when ppl are like 'you can't expect Taylor not to write about her exes, she always has and all songwriters do. She's the only who gets called out blah blah blah'. It's not about the song writing on it's on. If she wrote about Joe and then never said anything or even gave one interview on what the album was about then left it then whatever. But it's the whole production, the Easter eggs for her fans, the digs through the album title, announcing the break up on her new racist boo's birthday, the getting her friends to mass unfollow, allowing them to shade Joe online, trying to act like Joe wouldn't let her out the front door when etc. she doesn't write these albums to express herself or to process relationships, she writes them for revenge and to try and harass her exes.
exactly
When this happens I remember that quote from some movie that goes like " Look how they massacred my boy"
when a song you like becomes a tiktok trend: oh baby, what have they done to you? here, come here. i'm sorry i let this happen. oh, you're wounded. my sweet love. i won't let them touch you again.
The only thing that really bothers me about this Michaela storyline is that it seems they’re going to use it to show that Francesca wasn’t truly in love with John… the way Violet said oh I thought love was forgetting your words and bold passion! Then she finally concluded that there are other ways to show love only for Fran to stumble over her words and have this sudden passion for Michaela? Like what was the point of my cute autistic coded couple then???
unfortunately it appears that i'm some kind of insane person
i think (while on the topic of taylor swift and criticism towards her), if we're to look a little closer to what makes taylor swift so successful, especially as someone who used to be an avid fan back in her early teens (i regret nothing), is her mediocrity. and i mean this in the nicest way possible: she's good, but not good enough to threaten an industry. she's outspoken, but only when it looks good on her. she's conveniently white, able-bodied and conventionally beautiful enough to claim all the privileges while sitting on a throne of female empowerment - without really doing anything to threaten the status quo or promote said empowerment.
because threatening the status quo would inevitably mean addressing her own power and how she, as a billionaire, benefits so greatly from white feminism. it's a parade of rainbows and confetti until she has to speak up. until she has to do something that might cause controversy, that might make her lose audience, fans, or $$$.
on the topic of her talents and all - it's the same thing. she has the kind of content that hits you strong enough for you to give her the credit for some quite good lyrics (re: all too well, the entirety of folklore and evermore), but it's all still digestible. it's palatable. it does not question, it doesn't bring any issues or topics we haven't seen before in art or music. it makes you feel, but it doesn't build anything up.
and dare i say, the people who are doing it, who are bringing some sort of revolution and/or a new perspective into music are the exact types of people she tends to have beef or an issue with. she cannot perceive any threats in the slightest, especially from other female artists. how many of them has she truly collaborated with in a way where she wasn't the main event? think about it. just think about it, for once.
actually i'm anti aesthetic. actually i don't believe in living my life according to the mandate of the same 500 pinterest images. actually i think my life has some meaning, some shades of color to it, outside of a set of rules and stereotypes that are presented to me in a tidy little package. actually, maybe i'm the ugly color gradient and that means there is nuance to the way i live. actually, i don't want to JUST be a witch, or a clean girl, or a mythic bitch, or the feminine mystique, or a coastal grandmother, or a cottagecore lover of women, or punk, or rock, or death metal, or goth. actually being a girl hasn't been anything like what's been shown to me -- and so i will be a girl on my own terms. actually i think being a girl has been nothing like the movies or the moodboards. actually FUCK your moodboards and your makeup too. actually i'm nothingandeverythingcore. actually im alive im alive im alive and that requires no aestheticization. it requires no sanitization of existence. actually life is most beautiful when it is diverse. actually i will try everything and know everything and nothing will stop me; my life will be varied and beautiful and messy and chaotic and occasionally organized and exactly the way it ought to be, you FUCKERS.
Ok so I just rewatched Kiki's Delivery Service the other day and I particular thought occurred to me. This post is a positive rant and isn't articulate in any way so bare with me, but I love the fact that Kiki has a delivery service and it's just that, a delivery service
The story is about having passion and not falling for perfectionism and burnout, but stories like this are almost always reserved to people with Big and Interesting Jobs(TM) where they need to overcome multiple hurdles to make their masterpiece and maybe learn something along the way because sure, Kiki's Delivery Service took all of that and put it wholeheartedly into something usually looked at as a non-sexy job
The other two witches we see in the film: her mom a doctor, and the other little witch a fortune teller, and yet the film doesn't even entertain the idea of her underselling herself or not using her witchy powers for something "more important". She's bringing people little joys when delivering messages and gifts, and sure maybe those packages are just boring business deliveries sometimes but they still matter
what i'm trying to say is Kiki's Delivery Service gave us a story often reserved to sexy and cool jobs to something we'd usually deem mundane or boring and I love that it doesn't even treat it as such. There's no pushback to the nature of the work Kiki chooses to do at all!
