Feminism (n.) The theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/feminism).
People saying that men can’t be raped are by definition not feminists, therefore it is nonsensical to use them as an example of why you aren’t a feminist.
Yes, men can get raped. But that’s not an argument against feminism
Basically why I’m not a feminist
Here’s a different take on the alien invasion trope:
The world is going to shit: overpopulation, deforestation, pollution, global warming, everything. The only question is if we’ll kill ourselves off before we kill the planet out from under us. Then one day ships appear in the skies all over the world- not just America and countries with trendy landmarks, but EVERYWHERE. Efforts are made to stop the “attackers” but humanity is still rounded up and carted off to some strange alien facility.
Food (of a sort) and shelter are provided, but no answers are forthcoming because humanity’s captors don’t bother talking to us. Maybe select individuals are taken off for testing, but they all come back in more or less the same condition they were found, except maybe with immuno-boosters or a few troubling terminal diseases cleared up. There’s massive speculation about what’s going on and probably religions are formed based on various beliefs about what the aliens are doing with us, but no one knows for sure.
This goes on for years (or longer) and then one day everyone is rounded up again and taken back to Earth. Everything is exactly how we left it (except maybe dustier and overgrown) except now there’s no pollution, the ice caps have been repaired, global temps stabilized, ozone holes patched, everything. There are more forests, more crops, and maybe a few critical species (like bees) have been given a population boost. There probably isn’t a lot of thought to where people get dumped so a lot of folks end up in the wrong countries and whatnot, but eventually we sort ourselves back out and either make our way back home or settle down where we are. In a world that’s a little better than the one we left.
And that’s how humanity finds out they’re just an alien terrarium and the owners have stopped by to clean the tank.
@badsjw I don’t understand why you see this as a dichotomy. Why couldn’t you write several well-written and well-developed trans characters? If you can write multiple well-done cisgender characters, it seems to me that you ought to be able to write multiple well-done transgender characters.
cool ideas for characters for your story
trans
very trans
not just binary
not just trans boys
(but trans boys too)
at least 3 trans characters
more than 3 trans characters
all very cool
add more trans
Some spots opened up in [name of professor redacted]’s class and I was able to swap into it!!!
I haven’t seen a lot of posts that shed some positivity for non-binary Muslims who wear the hijab – I personally sometimes feel it’s frustrating that people see hijabi non-binary people as “female” just because the hijab is an obligation for women. My hijab does not define my gender; only my obligation to my God and my religion!
Shoutout to all non-binary hijabi Muslims out there; you are valid and Allah loves you, insya-Allah!
If you are a non-Jewish person attempting to be inclusive of Jewish holidays and traditions, but your method of doing so starts from the assumption that Judaism is exactly like Christianity but with less Jesus, and/or that Hanukkah is just like Christmas but eight days long and harder to spell, you are doing it wrong.
(Hanukkah traditions: not actually Christmas traditions with a different color scheme! Including Jewish traditions: not actually talking about Hanukkah exactly like Christmas but with the name of the holiday switched around! Judaism and Christianity are different and their holidays are different. If you actually want to include Jewish people, recognizing these differences is an important step.)
Okay guys this is kinda important. GQ just came in the mail and for the first time in a long while it had a really important article…
I just sat here for like the last half hour reading this and I’m incredibly appalled at our justice system in regards to the military. The article interviews about 23 men who have all been sexually assaulted in some branch of the military. The PTSD from sexual assault in the military is more prevalent than PTSD from combat…
If you have a chance I suggest reading this article…and the title is a quote that one of the victims Doctor told him…

It sounds like it’s currently debated.

That’s not quite how averages work.
There are three main types of averages: arithmetic mean (what people usually mean if they don’t specify a type), median, and mode.
The arithmetic mean is calculated by adding up all the values, and dividing by the total number of individuals measured. For instance, if ten people can speak 700 million words (this is a lot of words, way more than in any language on Earth) apiece of an alien language and no one else can speak any, this power would allow you to speak one word.
The median is calculated by ordering the values from least to greatest, then choosing the one in the middle of the list (if there are two, you take the mean of those two). If 3.5 billion people know 700 million words of the alien language, 3.5 billion people know one word, and one person knows fifteen, the median speaker knows fifteen words. This doesn’t change if the 3.5 billion people who know no words all learn fourteen words, because the speaker whose word knowledge is in the middle still knows fifteen.
The mode is the most commonly occurring value. If 2 billion people know 75,000 words, 2 billion people know 3,000 words, and 3 billion people know no words, the modal speaker knows no words.
tl;dr: Being average will not give you superhuman abilities. If your power makes you human average, the absolute best case scenario has you as good as the best human, and that is very unlikely.
Your super power is that you are average, at everything you do.
