I just watched the movie the Grizzly Man, about the bear enthusiast and photographer Timothy Treadwell who thought he had developed a special bond with the bears that he knew and thought they saw him as a friend like he with them, only to be killed by one he knew. After that I got reminded of male sympathising women who have the "oh I can fix him" and/or "he isn't so bad see?" ways of thinking.
