@ Canadians
I think we have a solid factual basis and enough supporting evidence that (provided that the conservatives lose the election) we may have a case to have Canada alter or withdraw from its safe third country agreement with the United States and begin to accept trans refugees from there.
But this is not going to happen if we don't demand it and present information that should lead to an update to the law.
So in addition to voting in the next election, please try to get in contact with local immigrant and LGBTQ advocacy groups and organize to bring this information before those who could act on it, including phone calls to members of parliament.
It is time to take action. We can't just assume someone else will do it in our place.
As a refugee myself, I am already gathering allies and information to coordinate actions from the shadows. I am hopeful that this can be done.
There's this interesting phenomenon where when you're a child, or some other vulnerable minority dependent on a job for shelter, you are actually under duress almost constantly. You can't say "I don't want to work today," you cannot say "I don't want to do the dishes, actually," you cannot choose not to participate. In a lot of cases, the punishment is explicit. Your parents might yell at you. Your boss might fire you. But in other cases, it's implicit. The mood will sour. You lose leeway. People get mad at you. And that creates a really shitty environment where you're constantly being coerced to do things!
And here's the kicker; you're not allowed to acknowledge that. You cannot acknowledge that you are being coerced, you cannot acknowledge that your free will is not being respected, because that's punished too. Your boss insists that you act excited. Your parents punish you for acting surly. You are forced to fake enthusiastic consent, constantly. It's a fucking nightmare. Your hand is being forced, you do not have the option to say "no," and if you ever, for a second, try to acknowledge that, everyone acts like you're the aggressor.
You've gotta love Jews more than you hate Nazis.
You've gotta love trans folks more than you hate TERFs.
You've gotta love your unhoused neighbors more than you hate the billionaires.
You've gotta love immigrants more than you hate ICE.
You've gotta love queer kids more than you hate christian fundamentalists.
You've gotta love fat people more than you hate the diet industry.
You've gotta love disabled people more than you hate the insurance companies.
You've gotta love your fellow humans more than you hate the worst that humanity has to offer. You don't have to like every person you're fighting for, and you sure as hell don't have to give up your righteous anger, but hate is ultimately corrosive.
You've gotta love.
This is exactly what I mean when I say the society even more “progressive” societies are inherently ableist
how will New York state or the city help protect me? is there anyone who lives here who can help me or knows anything about this, I need a friend or someone who can assist me I'm all alone with this stuff
like if there's an addon or an app that would be better for me, I wish I could more easily understand that stuff though
is there any way to download or mass reblog all of the posts I've liked or save them or search through them easily?
I spoke with experts in transgender care and dozens of transgender individuals to identify steps the community can take now to prepare for a Trump presidency. Trump has pledged numerous actions against transgender people, from investigating educators to banning gender-affirming care for youth and ending legal recognition for transgender individuals. While some of these measures may take time to implement, others could happen swiftly. For instance, the upcoming December budget negotiations are likely to include anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ amendments, which Democrats may accept to avoid a government shutdown. For transgender people and their supporters, being prepared is essential. Here are practical steps the community should consider in the coming weeks to safeguard themselves against these anticipated challenges.
In the latest meeting with Nayib Bukele, where they confirmed they will not be releasing the guy they imprisoned because of an administrative error, Trump once again floated the idea of also selling US citizens into slavery in El Salvador.
He said he wants to "deport" as many people as possible, and has already shown he considers things like Tesla vandalism and anti-genocide protests to be a good enough reason to do it.
i was talkin with some europeans about their healthcare and i realized like, even if i had the means to immigrate, i most likely would not be allowed to in most countries as a single person because I am disabled. This is another major aspect of ableism I don't see talked about often, the way immigration systems across the globe are designed to keep disabled people (who would be 'burdens' on the welfare system) out.
its been 17 days since i posted my crowd funding post and so far only one person donated $20 anonymously (thank you to that person) but I'm not getting what i need in time (apartments get taken fast) and i don't know where i should turn for help for donations and signal boosting
