How to Interpret a Transit

So, when it comes to transits, I recommend you start with the outer planets. In particular, if you want to know what’s going on in your life right now, check Saturn. Then Jupiter, then Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. You can look to the inner planets for info on your mood, or fleeting effects that don’t make a fundamental impact on your life. Mars is sort of in-betweener that it is worth paying attention to just in case it’s up to something.

Step one: The moving planet. I’ve talked a bit about each planet’s transiting effect here so I won’t repeat it in this post. In general, you know when you have a Pluto transit that something transformative will happen. You know with a Jupiter transit that something expansive will happen. This is the nature of the action that will take place. 

Step two: The natal point. This is the point that the transiting planet will share its energy with. It is your natural proclivity that will be challenged or lend its aid to the transit. This is the part of your inner world that is resonating with the transiting planet.

Step three: The natal houses. Where are the planets involved in your natal chart? If the transiting planet is Pluto, for example, in what house is your natal Pluto? In what house is the natal point being transited, as well? Things are not necessarily happening in these houses, but they generally hold the cause or the foundations of the action that will take place. Circumstances in these houses usually lead to the action of the transit.

Step four: The transited house. Here is where the action takes place. The transiting planet will cause a thing to happen in the area of life ruled by this house. The thing that happens, will have the energy of the transiting planet and the natal point. Tough to get more specific than that in a general post, but for example may you have Pluto transiting your Venus. Pluto will cause a transformation to the things ruled by this house, which will be closely related to your loving and aesthetic energy.

Step five: The ruled houses. This is a commonly misunderstood concept. For ruling planets, check the sign of each house. The planet associated with that sign, is the ruling planet of that house. For example, my 2nd house cusp is in Gemini. Mercury rules my second house, though it does not sit there in my chart. Anyway, these houses are where you will see the effects of the transit. When the action is completed in the transiting house, you will see the results in these houses.

Step six: The aspect. Took me long enough to get to this one, huh? In short, a conjunction indicated a change that is personal, that deeply concerns your identity. It also represents both the culmination and the beginning of a cycle. A sextile represents an opportunity that it is up to you to take advantage of. A square represents a challenge that will force you to take initiative, or prove yourself. It may show that your previous course of action was incorrect, or show you areas in which you require change and adaptation. A trine represents the removal of obstacles, a time when things move quickly because the energies involved are so in tune. An opposition represents a confrontation between you and the transiting energy, often in the form of a person. During an opposition, you will be forced to make a decision.

Step seven: Timing. I just wanted to do some quick notes on this that I may expand on later. First of all, with Uranus through Pluto especially, transits will be marked by a direct motion over the point, then a retrograde back, then one last direct motion over it before it moves on. The first direct motion will set up the issue, the retrograde back will be when it becomes most personal to you, then the last direct motion over will be the wrapping up of the issue, the introduction of the conclusions.

Times of contact with the same natal point involving both an outer planet and an inner planet may also be flashpoints for the overall lesson of the transit. Definitely keep your eye out for these, as they may indicate very significant moments in your life.

Big brain time during your thesis defense

If you’re suicidal the rules of what’s good for you change. If you’re in a state so bad that you want to discontinue your own life, anything that will make you want to live is good. Even if in other situations it would be seen as unhealthy, shameful, childish or obsessive, if it’s going to make you want to live for a bit longer it’s the correct choice. For instance, self harm is bad, but, if it’s the choice between that and wanting to die? Allowed. Skipping all work/chores/studies and spending a day in bed or bath or or the floor would usually be frowned upon, but if you’re suicidal? The right choice! Dropping anything that makes you want to live less is a good choice, and completely avoiding anything that makes you die is great. It doesn’t matter if everyone thinks you’re avoidant or lazy or irresponsible, fuck them, you’re fighting for your own life here, and they’re interfering. Their opinions can take a hike.

Only thing that is still not okay is trying to control someone else with how you feel. Making suicide threats to someone, making them feel as if your life is in their hands now, still not okay, not permitted. But anything else goes. Your life continuing is worth more than anything in the world being done, and more important than any social rules being obeyed.

it feels good to know that some people kiss for the first time today, some people finally get their dream job, some people finish reading their favorite book, some people get over someone, some people win against their disorder, some people have a baby, some people go on vacation, some people reunite, some people find a new favorite song, some people sleep next to each other, some people live today, some people survive today.

It’s okay if you count on your fingers, if you continually change how you look, if you’re passionate about something you aren’t good at, if you’re confused about your identity, if you score low on tests often. Mars in Capricorn: The Power of a Volcano

I was discussing mars in Capricorn with a friend recently. She told me they are designed for elegant efficiency and i was thinking…yes, this is true, definitely. But there’s more to it. People with mars in Capricorn always leave me with this sense for layers, you know. But not in the complex way Scorpio or Gemini or Pisces are layered, no, it’s different. The main difference is you just don’t feel it’s up for exploration. With other signs, you get the idea that they would like to share their depths, to be known by the people they choose…their complexities and depths feel like a beautifully decorated museum where you explore room after room full of many intricacies and curiosities. Mars in Capricorn doesn’t feel inviting. It doesn’t feel accessible either. Their depth is not for show, it’s for use only - they don’t have various rooms of complexities, they possess layers after layers after layers that they’ve created. And that whole overwhelming structure creates their core, the core of mars in Capricorn. That’s where they take their energy from. This is what one might call “the powerhouse of the cell”. Depths they’ve designed and know better than the back of their hand, this is what creates the tremendous amounts of energy they channel into the ruthless efficiency with which they pursue their goals. That core exists so they can get what they want. And access for exploration is not something that can be easily granted to anybody.

This is why mars in Capricorn is most like a volcano out of the mars signs. I mean, one usually associates lava with fire, so explosions are seen as something of the fire realm, but with volcanos the thing is fire comes from the earth. The fire (mars) core exists beneath layers and layers of earth so it can keep together this whole high-functioning mechanism of the planet that we live on. this is why mars exalts in Capricorn - this is not a single destructive explosion of anger and will, this is a deep, deep core of power that fuels constructive and incessant action.

Two of the most important people in my life have mars in Capricorn and honestly…it feels incredible to be with someone like this. A little off-astrology, but according to human design i’m a projector so basically i’m a non-energy type and i seek out other people whose energy i can access and direct. Basically, the more open centers you have - and i have almost all of them - the more you can sample and taste other people’s energy to consider which one is best fitting for your guidance. With mars in Capricorn ppl, the feeling is kind of overwhelming for me. it’s like…i can smell it under the surface, that energy core which keeps them wired and i feel pulled towards it as if towards some sort of abyss. With my ex it really felt as if for the first time in my life i have the energy to do things. unlimited energy. Well, ofc i kept doing pointless stuff - come on, i’m a projector, i’ve never had a drop of energy in my life, what do you expect me to do with it all of a sudden lmfao. But it was an amazing feeling.

It’s not all strength and resilience though. Some people with mars in Capricorn may be going through life with the feeling that there is something locked deep down inside them, something so powerful it frightens them. This is the case especially when mars is afflicted with difficult aspects (square, opposition, quincunx, sometimes conjunction) with Saturn or Neptune. There is a feeling for power one cannot yield properly and wastes away. With difficult aspects with Pluto or Uranus the individual might feel as if they can access their own power but they’re much too frightened to use it as it bears a twisted quality to it. These aspects often bring a feeling shame connected to sexual preferences and a feeling that the individual is twisted or sick in some way, they might feel as if their desires are dirty and no good. Mars in Capricorn is a very potent placement, so it can be difficult to make use of and depending on the rest of the chart it can either bring strong fulfillment and ability to go after what you want or the sense of wasted potential. F.e. it can be pretty difficult for someone with a lot of Venus influence in the chart to have mars in Capricorn and it can lead to hyper identification with either Martian or Venusian energy and total disregard of the opposite one. If the individual with mars in Capricorn identifies too much with it in an attempt to run away from the Venus side that is trying to suffocate it they may act out, become workaholic, live goal to goal, promising themselves rest which never comes until they reach a complete burn out, try to control people all the time or even get addicted to sex. So yeah, especially with the exalted placements it’s important to remember one has to integrate their polarities fully. And try to not get lost in what feels like power if it cripples you of other aspects of your authentic self.
