"You know, Wally," Y/n said, flipping through the pages of a dusty comic book, "I think I've figured out what's been missing in these superhero love stories."
Wally Clark, his eyes glued to the TV, munched on a potato chip. "Oh, really?"
"Mmhmm," she murmured, not looking up. "They always rush into it. No buildup. No tension."
He chuckled, tossing his half-eaten sandwich onto the plate. "You've been reading too many of those romance novels your mom hides."
The room was bathed in the soft glow of the street lamp outside, casting shadows that danced across the worn-out sofa and the floor littered with comic book pages. The air had the scent of old books and the faint aroma of pizza from the box on the coffee table. Wally and the reader had known each other forever—best friends since they were kids, sharing secrets, laughter, and a mutual love for all things comic-related.
The TV flickered, showing a scene from their favorite show, 'The Flash'. The hero zoomed through the city, a blur of red and yellow, saving the day once again. Y/n sighed, placing the comic book aside. "They never really show the moment, you know?"
Wally turned to her, curiosity piqued. "The moment?"
"When they finally realize they're in love," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's always so... rushed."
Their eyes met, and the room seemed to hold its breath. The crackling static of the TV was the only sound between them, the world outside fading away. The warmth of the summer evening pressed against the windows, creating a gentle breeze that rustled the curtains.
Wally leaned closer, his heart hammering in his chest. He had felt something for her for a long time, but he wasn't sure if it was the same for her. "Maybe that's just how it happens in comics," he said, his voice a little shaky.
The reader's eyes searched his, a hint of something unspoken passing between them. "Or maybe," she began, "it's because it's more complicated in real life."
Wally swallowed, the crumbs of his sandwich feeling like boulders in his throat. He had known her for what felt like an eternity—seen her in every possible light, from the awkwardness of puberty to the confidence she now exuded. "Yeah," he agreed, his voice barely audible. "It's definitely more complicated."
---
The air grew thick with unspoken words and unexplored feelings. He reached for her hand, the warmth of her skin sending a jolt through his body. Her eyes widened slightly, but she didn't pull away. The TV was forgotten as they sat there, their fingers intertwined, the electricity between them crackling like a live wire.
"Remember when we used to run around the neighborhood pretending to be superheroes?" she asked, a nostalgic smile playing on her lips. "You always said I'd make the perfect sidekick."
"Well," Wally said, his own smile spreading, "you still do." He took a deep breath, the moment feeling as if it was frozen in time. "But I think you might be more than that."
Her pulse quickened, and she looked down at their joined hands, tracing the lines of his palm with her thumb. "What do you mean?"
Wally took another deep breath, his heart racing. "I mean," he began, his voice gaining strength, "you've been more than a sidekick to me for a long time. You're... you're my partner, in every sense of the word."
The room was still. The only sound was the distant hum of the city outside. She looked up, her eyes meeting his, searching for the truth in his gaze. "Wally..." she whispered, her voice trembling.
He leaned in closer, his eyes never leaving hers. "Give me a kiss, my love," he murmured, his voice filled with a yearning that had been simmering just beneath the surface for years.
Their lips met, tentative at first, like two magnets finding their polar opposites. The kiss grew deeper, more urgent, as the years of unspoken feelings crashed into them like a tidal wave. Her hand reached up to cradle his cheek, the stubble rough against her fingertips. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer, and she melted into him, feeling the strength in his embrace, the warmth of his body against hers.
The kiss grew more passionate, their breaths mingling as they lost themselves in the moment. It was as if they were the only two people in the world, their hearts beating in perfect sync, their bodies entwined in a dance of love and desire.
Wally's hand slid down her back, feeling the soft fabric of her shirt give way to the smooth skin beneath. He could feel the heat emanating from her, and it was all he could do to keep from devouring her right there. She leaned into him, her fingers threading through his hair, and he knew he had to have more. He gently pushed her back onto the sofa, never breaking the connection of their lips.
Their bodies fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, made for each other. He could feel the rapid beat of her heart against his chest, the softness of her breasts pressing against him, and the gentle curve of her waist. She moaned softly, the sound sending a shiver down his spine.
He took his time, exploring the landscape of her body, learning every inch of her. His hands traced the lines of her neck, the softness of her shoulders, and the curve of her waist. She responded with a gentle pressure of her own, her hands roaming over his chest, feeling the muscles tense and relax beneath her fingertips.
Their clothes were discarded piece by piece, each article revealing more of their bare skin to the warm evening air. They took in the sight of each other, savoring the moment like it was their last. He could see the desire in her eyes, mirroring his own, and it only served to fuel the fire burning between them.
Their kisses grew more urgent, their touches more intimate. They explored each other's bodies, their hands and mouths speaking a silent language of love and need. He could feel her body quivering with anticipation, her breath hitching in her throat as he kissed his way down her neck.
When he reached her breasts, he took his time, teasing and caressing them with his thumbs, watching as her nipples grew taut with desire. He took one into his mouth, suckling gently, and she arched her back with a soft cry of pleasure.
Her hands found their way to his belt, and she began to unbuckle it with trembling fingers. He helped her, his own hands not much steadier. The zipper of his jeans was next, and she pulled them down, revealing his erection straining against the fabric of his boxers.
He kicked them off, and she reached out, wrapping her hand around him, her touch sending shockwaves through his body. He groaned, his hips bucking involuntarily. She stroked him slowly, her eyes never leaving his, and he knew he wouldn't last much longer.
With a gentle push, he had her legs spread, and he settled between them. He kissed her again, deep and slow, as he slid his hand between her thighs, feeling the slickness of her arousal. She was ready for him, and the knowledge was almost too much to bear.
He slid a finger inside her, her body tightening around him. She was warm and wet, and he felt his own body respond, his need for her growing stronger by the second. He stroked her gently, feeling her tense and relax against his touch.
Wally leaned down, placing kisses along her collarbone and down her chest, his tongue tracing the path his hand had taken. When he reached her core, he paused, looking up at her. "Are you sure?" he asked, his voice hoarse with desire.
She nodded, her eyes glazed with lust. "I've never been more sure of anything in my life," she whispered.
With that, he kissed her again, and then moved down to kiss her in the most intimate way possible. She gasped, her hips rising to meet his mouth, her hands tangling in his hair.
He took his time, exploring her with his tongue, tasting her sweetness. She moaned, her body writhing beneath him as he brought her closer and closer to the edge. He could feel her tightening around his tongue, her legs trembling, and knew she was close.
Wally pulled back, watching her face as he slid two fingers inside her. She was so wet, so ready for him, and the sight was almost too much to handle. He moved his hand in a steady rhythm, his thumb circling her clit, feeling her hips rock against him. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her nails digging into the cushions of the sofa.
Her orgasm crashed over her like a wave, her body spasming with pleasure, her cries echoing in the quiet room. He kissed his way back up her body, his own need reaching a fever pitch. He positioned himself at her entrance, pausing for a moment, savoring the feeling of their bodies so close.
He pushed inside her, feeling her tighten around him, her warmth enveloping him like a glove. She gasped, her eyes flying open to meet his, and he stilled, giving her time to adjust. Then, with a gentle nod from her, he began to move, his hips setting a slow, steady pace.
Their movements grew more urgent, their bodies moving together like a well-oiled machine. The sounds of their love filled the room, their breaths mingling with the slick sounds of their passion. Her legs wrapped around him, pulling him deeper, her heels digging into his back.
Wally's eyes never left hers, the connection between them more profound than any superhero team-up they had ever dreamed of. He watched as she threw her head back, her mouth open in a silent scream, her eyes squeezed shut in ecstasy. He knew he was close, too, and could feel the pressure building in his core.
With a final, desperate thrust, he reached his climax, her name on his lips as he filled her with his release. They stayed there, joined together, their hearts pounding, their bodies entwined. It was a moment of perfect peace in the midst of the storm, a moment that would change their friendship forever.
After the storm of passion had passed, they lay there, their bodies slick with sweat, their breaths gradually evening out. He kissed her forehead, her cheeks, her lips, tasting the salt on her skin. "I love you," he whispered, the words feeling both new and ancient at the same time.
She opened her eyes, a soft smile playing on her lips. "I love you too, Wally." It was the simplest declaration, but it held the weight of the world in those three little words.
They lay there, wrapped in each other's arms, as the TV continued to flicker in the background. The Flash had moved on to his next adventure, but Wally and Y/n had just begun theirs. A love story more epic than any comic book could ever capture, written in the pages of their hearts.

~ ☆ ♡ ° ~ ☆ ♡ ° ~ ☆ ♡ ° ~ ☆ ♡ ° ~
The second I crouched into position, ready for the snap, the world around me blurred into focus.
Tunnel vision.
The defensive line shifted, muscles coiled, waiting for the play to explode.
Then—
Gasps. Shouts.
A figure stepping directly in front of me.
The ball never snapped.
My entire body locked up as my brain scrambled to process what I was seeing.
Y/N.
Standing right in front of me, on the damn field, looking up at me with wide, desperate eyes.
The weight of the moment crashed down, wiping out every single thought except—
What the hell is she doing?
“Clark!” Coach’s furious bellow barely registered.
The other players stood frozen, stunned into silence.
I barely heard them.
My breath was caught somewhere between panic and disbelief.
Because Y/N wasn’t moving.
Wasn’t speaking.
She was just standing there, staring at me, her chest rising and falling like she had run all the way here.
I yanked off my helmet, heart hammering. “Y/N, what the hell—”
“I was wrong.”
Her voice was shaky, barely above a whisper.
But it was enough.
Enough to send my stomach twisting, enough to make my entire body go rigid.
Because I had waited to hear those words.
Had prayed—begged—for her to come back, to tell me that she knew I didn’t do it.
But she never did.
And now, when I was finally starting to push through the wreckage—she was here.
On the field.
Stopping everything.
The team was staring.
The coaches were yelling.
But all I could see was her.
My jaw clenched. “You can’t be here.”
She flinched but didn’t move. “I had to.”
My grip on my helmet tightened. “Why? So you could tell me now? After you left me standing in the street, begging you to listen?”
Pain flashed in her eyes, her breath hitching. “I should’ve listened.”
I exhaled sharply, shoving a hand through my hair. My body was still wired from practice, still thrumming with too much emotion.
“You broke me, Y/N.” The words came out low, rough. “Do you get that?”
Her bottom lip trembled. “I do.”
No hesitation.
No excuse.
Just that raw, unfiltered regret.
It nearly killed me.
Because as much as I wanted to hold onto my anger—
As much as I wanted to tell her she didn’t get to do this—
I still loved her.
I didn’t know if I could stop.
My teammates shifted uncomfortably, waiting for something to happen.
Coach was still shouting, but it was just noise now.
I swallowed hard. “Why now?”
She inhaled sharply, shoulders straightening like she was trying to hold herself together. “Because I couldn’t stand being without you.”
My breath caught.
“I thought I was protecting myself,” she whispered. “But all I did was ruin the best thing that ever happened to me.”
My heart twisted violently.
She was saying everything I had wanted to hear—everything I had needed to hear.
But after all the pain, after the nights I spent trying to convince myself she wasn’t coming back—
Was it enough?
The air between us crackled.
A silent, desperate question hung there, waiting for me to answer.
Coach’s whistle shrieked.
“Clark, get off my damn field if you’re gonna keep standing there!”
My fingers twitched around my helmet.
I could turn around. Walk away.
Or—
I could let her back in.
I could take the risk.
My chest rose and fell, my heart hammering like a drum.
Then—
I dropped my helmet.
And in one step, I was in front of her.
Her eyes went wide just as I pulled her in.
It wasn’t a kiss. It wasn’t even a word.
It was just me, holding onto her, my face buried against her shoulder, inhaling the familiar scent of her shampoo, the warmth of her body against mine.
Y/N broke—I felt it in the way her hands clutched my jersey, the way she shook against me, the way she whispered, “I’m so sorry,” over and over again.
The team went silent.
But I didn’t care.
Because for the first time in days—
I could breathe again.

The evening was cool and quiet, a gentle breeze whispering through the leaves outside. Inside the small, cluttered room, books and papers lay scattered across the table, a silent testament to the hours Wally and Y/N had spent together. They had known each other since they were knee-high to a grasshopper, growing up in the same town, attending the same school, sharing the same dreams. They had always been close, but there was something different tonight, a charge in the air that neither could ignore.
Wally glanced up from his book, his eyes meeting hers. She sat across from him, chewing on the end of her pen, lost in thought. Her hair, usually a wild mess, was pulled back into a loose ponytail, revealing the faint freckles that danced across her nose and cheeks. The lamp cast a warm, golden light, making her look like she belonged on the pages of one of their favorite childhood stories. He took a deep breath, feeling his heart race in his chest. He had to tell her.
They had been studying for hours, the silence only broken by the occasional rustle of paper or the tick of the clock on the wall. The room was filled with the comforting scent of old books and the faint aroma of the coffee they had brewed earlier. Wally had always found something soothing about the way Y/N's mind worked, the way she could dissect a problem and solve it without breaking a sweat. But tonight, as he watched her, he found himself thinking about things that had nothing to do with homework.
The tension grew, a palpable force that made the air thick with unspoken words. Wally's hand hovered over his notes, but his thoughts were elsewhere. He had heard whispers about his past, about a summer fling that had left him with a bit more experience than she had. It was something she didn't know, something he had never wanted to bring between them. But he couldn't help feeling like it was eating away at him, like a secret he had to share before it consumed him entirely.
Finally, he found the courage to speak. "Y/N," he began, his voice low and hesitant. She looked up, her eyes wide with curiosity. He took a moment, gathering his thoughts, trying to find the right words. "There's something I need to tell you."
Her eyes searched his, looking for a clue, a hint of what was to come. The room seemed to shrink around them, the only sound the thundering of their hearts. Wally knew this was it, the moment that would change everything. He took another deep breath and continued, "I've liked you for a really long time." The words hung in the air, heavy and significant.
Y/N blinked, surprised. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice a soft tremble.
Wally swallowed hard, his eyes never leaving hers. "I mean, I'm in love with you."
The confession hung between them like a delicate thread, vibrating with the weight of its meaning. Y/N's hand stilled on the paper, the pen hovering in mid-air. She looked at him, really looked at him, for what felt like the first time in forever. And then, she set the pen down, her eyes filling with a warmth that made Wally's heart soar.
"Wally," she whispered, "I think I love you too."
The world stopped spinning for a moment, frozen in the wake of her words. And then, as if released from an invisible cage, Wally felt his heart race even faster. He pushed his chair back and moved towards her, his hand reaching out to brush a strand of hair from her face. She leaned into his touch, her eyes searching his, looking for reassurance.
He knew then that this was it, the moment he had dreamed of for so long. He leaned in, their faces so close that he could feel her breath on his skin. And then, as if pulled by an invisible force, their lips met. The kiss was soft, tentative, filled with the promise of so much more.
The kiss grew deeper, more urgent, as the years of friendship melded into something new. They broke apart, gasping for air, their eyes locked. Wally could feel the heat rising in him, a fire that had been smoldering for far too long. He knew that tonight was the night, the night where everything would change.
And as they moved closer, their bodies brushing against each other, the tension that had been simmering for so long finally snapped. Wally's arms wrapped around her, pulling her into a tight embrace, their kiss deepening with each passing moment. His hands slid down to the small of her back, pressing her closer, as if trying to meld their very souls together.
Y/N's hands found their way to his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart beneath his shirt. She knew that this was real, that the feelings she had been burying for so long were finally coming to the surface. The thought of it terrified her and exhilarated her all at once.
They stumbled backward, the chair scraping against the floor, until they were standing in the center of the room. Wally's hands moved to her face, cupping her cheeks gently, his thumbs tracing the line of her jaw. He kissed her again, this time with a passion that left her breathless, her knees threatening to buckle beneath her.
Her eyes searched his, questioning, and he nodded, confirming the unspoken question in her gaze. He took her hand and led her to his bed, their hearts racing in unison. The softness of the comforter was a stark contrast to the fire that burned within them. He laid her down, his eyes never leaving hers, and began to undo the buttons of her blouse.
With trembling fingers, he revealed her soft, bare skin, the sight of it making his breath catch in his throat. He leaned down to kiss her neck, feeling her shiver beneath his touch. His experience from the past whispered to him, guiding his actions, but it was the raw emotion in her eyes that truly directed him.
He pulled away, just enough to remove his own shirt. The sight of his bare chest made Y/N's heart skip a beat. The moonlight danced across his skin, casting shadows that highlighted the contours of his muscles. He was beautiful, she thought, and she felt a surge of desire so intense it was almost overwhelming.
Wally's eyes searched hers, looking for any sign of hesitation. But all he saw was want, a mirror to his own feelings. He leaned down again, his lips finding hers, their kisses growing more frantic, more desperate as they shed their clothes.
The coolness of the room washed over their bare skin, sending shivers down their spines. His hands explored her body, learning every curve and plane as if he had never seen her before. Y/N's breath hitched as his tongue brushed over her nipple, a jolt of pleasure shooting straight to her core. She arched into his touch, her hands roaming over his back, feeling the tension in his muscles.
Their bodies intertwined, a tapestry of limbs and sighs. Wally took his time, savoring every moment, every sensation. He knew he had more experience than her, but it was her reactions, her unbridled passion, that guided him. He kissed his way down her body, leaving a trail of fire in his wake.
He reached the edge of her panties and paused, his eyes meeting hers. She nodded, her cheeks flushed, her breath shallow. He slipped them off, revealing the soft, damp heat of her sex. He took a moment to admire her, the way she was laid bare before him, offering herself completely.
Wally's hand slid down, his fingers teasing her folds. He felt her tense, her muscles tightening around him, and he knew she was ready. He slid a finger inside her, watching her eyes widen, her back arch. She was wet, so wet for him, and he couldn't wait any longer.
He positioned himself at her entrance, his heart hammering in his chest. He pushed in slowly, giving her time to adjust to his size, feeling her warmth envelop him. Her nails dug into his back, a silent plea for more, and he obliged, moving in and out with a steady rhythm.
Their breaths mingled, their bodies moving in perfect harmony. Y/N's legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him closer, urging him deeper. He kissed her again, his tongue mimicking the movements of his hips. She moaned into his mouth, her body tightening around him as she approached her peak.
Wally felt the pressure building, the familiar tightness in his gut that signaled his climax was near. But he held back, focusing on her, on the way she felt, on the noises she made. He wanted to make her come first, wanted to show her that this was more than just sex, that it was a declaration of love and commitment.
Her breath grew ragged, her hips bucking against his, seeking release. He reached between them, his thumb finding her clit, rubbing it in tight, fast circles. Her eyes rolled back, a keening sound escaping her lips as she came apart, her body shuddering with pleasure.
And then it was his turn, the dam breaking as he let go, his orgasm crashing over him like a wave. He buried his face in her neck, his breath hot against her skin, as he emptied himself into her. They lay there, panting, their hearts beating in time with each other's, their bodies still connected.
The room was silent, save for the sound of their breathing and the rustling of the curtains in the breeze. Wally pulled out, his arms still shaking from the intensity of their love-making. He rolled onto his side, pulling her into his embrace.
They lay there, skin to skin, hearts racing, the tension of years of unspoken feelings finally dissipating into the night air. The world outside had continued to turn, but in that moment, all that mattered was the two of them, entwined in the warm cocoon of Wally's bed, finally admitting what they had both known for so long.

The bleachers rattled as the football team crowded onto the sidelines, jostling and shouting as the game played on. Y/N stood at the edge, the camera strap tight around her neck, trying—really trying—to get the shot she needed for the yearbook.
“Hey, um… excuse me?” she called over the noise, nudging the nearest player’s shoulder. “I just need a little space.”
No response. Just more shouting, more shoving, more obliviousness.
She tried again. And again. Each time, her voice got softer, her patience wearing thinner.
Then—
“Hey!” Wally’s voice cut through the commotion like a whistle at practice.
The players froze.
He stepped forward, towering just enough to make a point. “She asked you to move. So move.” His usual easygoing tone was gone, replaced with something firm, something that didn’t leave room for argument.
A few of them exchanged glances before grumbling and shifting aside, finally giving her the space she needed.
Y/N blinked up at him, a little stunned. “You didn’t have to do that.”
Wally smirked, tilting his head toward her camera. “Nah, but I figured you’d rather take pictures than waste your breath.”
She huffed, rolling her eyes. “You’re insufferable.”
“And you’re welcome.”
She snapped a picture of him just to be annoying. He only grinned.

Practice had run late, and he’d spent the last twenty minutes speeding across town to get to Y/N’s house, his heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nerves.
Because tonight, he was going to tell her.
Not just I love you—he’d said that plenty of times.
But I see forever with you, and he was going to show that with a promise ring.
They’d been together for over a year now, and it wasn’t always easy, but she was his person. She made everything better.
So when he pulled up outside her house and saw her sitting on the front steps, arms wrapped around herself, something in his chest tightened.
Something was wrong.
He barely had time to process it before she lifted her head, and the look in her eyes made his stomach drop.
Because it wasn’t just sadness.
It was betrayal.
“What the hell, Wally?” she asked, her voice sharp and cold in a way he had never heard before.
His heart started pounding. “What—what’s going on?”
She let out a bitter laugh. “Seriously? You’re really gonna stand there and act like you don’t know?”
“Y/N, I don’t—”
“I saw you, Wally.”
His blood turned to ice. “Saw me what?”
She shook her head, looking away like she couldn’t even stand to look at him. “With her.”
Her?
His mind raced, scrambling to figure out what the hell she was talking about.
Then—realization hit.
Oh, no. No, no, no.
“Wait—Y/N, if you’re talking about that girl outside the diner—”
“I saw you, Wally,” she repeated, voice breaking. “You had your hands all over her. She was all over you.”
His chest clenched. “It wasn’t what it looked like!”
“Oh, really?” she snapped. “Because it looked like my boyfriend was getting real close with some other girl while I was sitting at home thinking about him.”
He took a step closer, reaching for her hands, but she pulled away like he’d burned her.
“Y/N, please,” he begged. “I was helping her. She’s Scott’s cousin—she got into a fight with her boyfriend, and she was crying. I was just—she just needed someone to talk to.”
Y/N let out a breath, and for a second, he thought maybe—maybe—she was listening.
Then she shook her head. “I don’t believe you.”
His heart stopped.
“Are you serious?”
She swallowed hard, eyes glistening under the dim porch light. “I don’t—” She broke off, pressing her lips together. “I can’t.”
His throat felt tight. “Y/N, you know me. You know I would never do that to you.”
She looked away, arms wrapping tighter around herself. “I thought I did.”
The words cut through him like a knife.
He took a shaky breath, trying to hold himself together. “So what? That’s it?”
She blinked rapidly, like she was trying not to cry. “I can't do this anymore, Wally.”
He physically flinched.
“Baby, please.” His voice cracked, and he didn’t care. “You’re everything to me. Don’t do this. I love you.”
She inhaled sharply, shaking her head. “I can’t.”
And just like that, it was over.
She turned, walked up the steps, and disappeared inside, leaving him standing there in the cold.
Wally didn’t know how long he stood there, staring at the closed door, waiting for it to open again.
But it never did.
And for the first time in his life, he had no idea how to fix it.

Announcer on PA: "He's got the ball. Wally Clark, down the field. He's at the 40, he's at the 30."
The stadium was electric, the crowd roaring as the final moments of the homecoming game played out under the bright Friday night lights. I sat in the stands, bundled in Wally’s varsity jacket, my heart pounding with excitement and nerves. This was his night—his chance to shine. I could already picture him grinning ear to ear afterward, sweeping me up in a post-game hug, the way he always did.
Then it happened.
Announcer: "Clark takes a big hit. He is down."
The hit came out of nowhere. One second, Wally was sprinting down the field, and the next, a player blindsided him with a brutal tackle. I watched, breathless, as his body lifted off the ground, flipping unnaturally in the air. The sickening crack echoed through the stadium as he landed hard on the turf, his head snapping at an awful angle. The crowd fell eerily silent.
My stomach dropped. Announcer: "This doesn't look good for Wally Clark."
“Get up, Wally,” I whispered, gripping the edge of my seat, willing him to move. To even twitch. But he didn’t. The players around him hesitated before frantically waving for help. Coaches and medics rushed the field, but he just lay there, still, too still. A cold dread settled over me, crawling up my spine.
This wasn’t like the other times he’d been hit. This was different.
Somewhere in the distance, I heard a voice yelling his name. It took me a second to realize it was mine...

The days after felt like a blur. A never-ending, suffocating blur. The hospital waiting room, the murmured apologies from doctors, the way his mother collapsed into sobs when they told us he was gone.
It felt unreal, like some kind of cruel joke.
Because how could Wally be gone? He was just here. Just laughing with me, just kissing me goodbye before the game, just promising me we'd go to the lake this weekend.
But he wasn’t here anymore. He never would be again.
I don’t remember much about the funeral. Just the weight in my chest, the way the world felt too bright for a day so dark.
People kept talking about him like he was a memory, but I couldn't accept that.
He wasn’t just a memory. He was still mine. My Wally. I stopped going to football games. Couldn’t even look at the field. Every time I walked past it, I swore I could still hear the echo of that hit, the way the crowd gasped, the way my heart broke in real time.
I needed somewhere to go, somewhere that felt like him.
That’s how I met Mr. Daniels, the janitor. He saw me wandering the halls after school one day, lingering in places I shouldn’t be. I expected him to scold me, to tell me to go home, but instead, he just asked, "Looking for somewhere quiet?" I nodded, and after a moment, he motioned for me to follow. He led me to an old storage room near the back of the school, long forgotten and covered in dust. "Nobody uses this place anymore," he said, tossing me a key. "Clean it up if you want. Just don’t tell anyone."
So I did. I spent hours there, sweeping the dust away, hanging up old pictures of Wally from my locker, draping his jacket over the back of a rickety chair.
It wasn’t much, but it was his. And being there, surrounded by the echoes of our time together, made me feel like I wasn’t completely alone.
One day, while sitting in that room, I let myself remember. Really remember. The way Wally smiled when he was nervous. The way his laugh sounded when he was truly happy. And, finally, the way he looked just before it all went wrong.
The scar of that night never left me. I replayed it over and over, but deep down, I knew what happened.
One night, sitting there alone, I whispered to the empty space, "I miss you, Wally." And though the room was silent, though I would never see his face again, I swore I could feel something—just the faintest hint of warmth, like he was still with me in some way. I still dream about him.
Sometimes, I wake up thinking I hear his voice, feel his arms around me. But when I open my eyes, the room is empty. Still, I know the truth.
He’s not lost. Not really. As long as I remember him, as long as I keep this small piece of him close, he’ll always be here. And maybe, just maybe, one day, I’ll see him again.

The moment I stepped off the field, hand in Y/N’s, the world snapped back into focus.
Coach was fuming.
My teammates were staring, a mix of shock, curiosity, and relief thick in the air.
And I knew—knew the second I hit the locker room, I'd get ripped apart for walking off mid-practice, for letting my personal life explode onto the field.
But right now?
I didn’t care.
Because Y/N was still gripping my hand like she was afraid I’d disappear, her breath still uneven, her fingers cold against my own.
Because my chest still felt tight, my heart still unsteady from the weight of everything.
Because even though I wanted to be angry—
I had missed her too much.
We didn’t say anything as we crossed the field, barely hearing the way Coach’s yelling turned into distant background noise.
It wasn’t until we hit the bleachers—until we were tucked in the shadow of the empty stands, away from the eyes of the team—that I stopped.
Turned to her.
Let go of her hand.
She looked up at me, eyes searching, like she was bracing for whatever came next.
For a long moment, I just stared.
At the girl who had wrecked me.
At the girl who still made my heart trip over itself.
At the girl who had just put herself directly in the line of fire because she couldn’t take it anymore.
My girl
I exhaled sharply. “You can’t do stuff like that, Y/N.”
Her breath caught. “I know.”
“You walked onto the field—” my voice wavered, the panic from earlier still gripping my ribs. “Do you have any idea what could’ve happened if they had snapped the ball? If someone hit you?”
Her face crumpled. “I wasn’t thinking.”
“No, you weren’t,” I snapped, then immediately cursed under my breath, scrubbing a hand down my face. “Jesus.”
Her shoulders curled in slightly, like she was preparing for me to tell her to leave.
And maybe a part of me thought I should.
But the other part—the part that had spent every day aching for her, that had spent every night staring at my ceiling, missing her—
That part couldn’t let her go.
“Say it again,” I muttered.
She blinked. “What?”
My voice was hoarse. “That you were wrong.”
Her eyes softened, even as fresh guilt flickered in them.
“I was wrong,” she whispered.
I let out a slow, unsteady breath, nodding once.
Then—
Before I could second-guess myself—
I reached for her again.
This time, I cupped her face, brushing my thumbs gently over her cheekbones, grounding myself in the warmth of her skin.
Her breath stuttered.
“I wanted to hate you,” I admitted quietly. “After that night, I tried to hate you.”
Her fingers curled around my wrists, holding on like she was afraid I’d slip away.
“But I couldn’t,” my said, voice raw. “I still can’t.”
Tears welled in her eyes. “Wally—”
I shook my head. “I’m not saying it’s fixed. I’m not saying we can just go back to how it was.”
She nodded, swallowing hard. “I know.”
“But I can’t pretend I don’t love you.”
A choked sound escaped her, like she was barely holding it together.
Like she wanted to say it back but didn’t know if she deserved to.
So I gave her a way out.
A test.
“Come to the diner with me,” I murmured.
Her brows furrowed. “What?”
“Tonight,” I clarified. “Come with me. Talk to me.”
She exhaled shakily. “And if I do?”
My fingers tightened slightly on her face, my stomach twisting as I searched her gaze.
“Then maybe we start over.”
She stared at me, lips parted, eyes wide.
Then—slowly, carefully—she nodded.
And for the first time since it all fell apart, I felt like maybe, just maybe—
We had a chance.

The gym was packed, pulsing with music, the air thick with the scent of sweat, cheap punch, and way too much cologne. The decorations—streamers, fairy lights, and a questionable amount of glitter—did their best to make the place feel magical, but Wally barely noticed any of it.
Because Y/N was standing in front of him, looking stunning.
Not that she didn’t always look good—because damn—but tonight? Tonight, she was on a whole other level.
He’d spent the whole night dancing with her, making her laugh, watching the way her eyes lit up under the glow of the lights. Every second, every little glance, every touch that lingered a little too long had been building up to this.
Now, the dance was winding down, and they had slipped outside, away from the crowd, into the cool night air. The muffled bass of the music still thumped from inside, but out here, it was quiet. Just the two of them under the dim glow of the parking lot lights.
“You’re not as bad at dancing as you said you were,” Y/N teased, swaying slightly in place.
Wally huffed a laugh. “That’s because I was holding back.”
“Oh, really?” She smirked. “Guess I’ll have to see the full performance someday.”
He grinned, taking a step closer. “Maybe.”
They were close now, the space between them barely there, his heart hammering in his chest.
She glanced up at him through her lashes, her usual confidence flickering into something softer, more hesitant. “Wally…”
“Yeah?” His voice was quieter now.
She swallowed, then let out a small breath, like she was working up the nerve to say something. But instead of words, she just… looked at him.
And suddenly, finally, he knew.
He reached up, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Her breath hitched.
“I’m gonna kiss you now,” he murmured.
Her lips parted slightly, and for a second, he thought she might tease him—call him out for stating the obvious. But instead, she just whispered, “Okay.”
So he did.
The first press of their lips was soft, tentative, but the moment she sighed against him, he was gone. His hands found her waist, pulling her in just enough to feel the warmth of her against him. She responded instantly, fingers curling into the fabric of his suit jacket.
It wasn’t rushed, wasn’t hurried—it was slow, warm, something real.
When they finally pulled away, she let out a breathless little laugh. “Took you long enough.”
He chuckled, resting his forehead against hers. “Worth the wait?”
She grinned. “Definitely.”
And with that, he kissed her again—because now that he’d started, there was no way he was stopping anytime soon.

The lake was freezing.
Y/N had been saying it the entire drive up. The entire hike down to the water. The entire time Wally was dragging her toward the dock.
And now, standing at the edge, toes curled over the sun-warmed wood, she was positive of it.
“I swear, Clark,” she warned, arms crossed, “if you push me in, I will haunt you.”
Wally, already chest-deep in the lake, grinned up at her. “Oh, come on.”
“No.”
“You’re gonna be hot and miserable all day.”
“That’s fine.”
He rolled his eyes. “Y/N.”
“Wally.”
A beat. Then—
“You’re scared.”
She scoffed. “I am not.”
“Then jump in.”
She glared. “I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
She groaned, running a hand through her hair. The dock creaked beneath her as she debated her options.
1. Stay dry, but deal with Wally’s relentless teasing for the rest of the summer.
2. Jump in, probably freeze to death, but shut him up.
Neither was ideal.
But the way he was smirking… Yeah. She couldn’t let him win.
“Fine,” she muttered.
And before she could second-guess herself, she jumped.
Cold slammed into her, stealing the air from her lungs. She resurfaced with a gasp, pushing her hair from her face.
“Oh my God—”
Wally was cackling.
“It’s not funny!” she wheezed, still adjusting to the shock.
“It’s hilarious,” he corrected, paddling closer.
“You’re dead.”
“Oh yeah?” His grin widened. “What are you gonna do about it?”
She lunged.
Water splashed everywhere as she grabbed him, shoving him under.
Wally came up coughing, shaking water from his hair. “Okay—truce, truce!”
She smirked, floating lazily on her back. “Thought so.”
He nudged her with his foot. “You’re the worst.”
“No, you’re the worst.”
Silence settled between them, broken only by the gentle ripple of the water. The sun was warm against their faces, the lake stretching wide and endless around them.
Wally glanced at her. “Admit it. You’re glad you jumped in.”
She sighed dramatically. “I guess it’s not that bad.”
He grinned, nudging her again. “Told you.”
And for once, she let him have the last word.
