A day where everyone's happy and nothing happened and they're all just being funky little teens in the human realmš„²
I'm pretty sure I also posted this on my main acc but I still can't be bothered to search for it lmao An epic commission for @muneaj of their epic dragon god Atlas, what an insanely cool design this is and I was more than happy to draw it!
The experiment demonstrates the fluidity and high viscosity of pitch, a derivative of tar that is the world's thickest known fluid and was once used for waterproofing boats.
Thomas Parnell, UQ's first Professor of Physics, created the experiment in 1927 to illustrate that everyday materials can exhibit quite surprising properties.
At room temperature pitch feels solid - even brittle - and can easily be shattered with a hammer. But, in fact, at room temperature the substance - which is 100 billion times more viscous than water - is actually fluid.
In 1927 Professor Parnell heated a sample of pitch and poured it into a glass funnel with a sealed stem. He allowed the pitch to cool and settle for three years, and then in 1930 he cut the funnel's stem.
Since then, the pitch has slowly dripped out of the funnel - so slowly that it took eight years for the first drop to fall, and more than 40 years for another five to follow.
Now, 87 years after the funnel was cut, only nine drops have fallen - the last drop fell in April 2014 and we expect the next oneĀ to fall sometime in the 2020s.
The experiment was set up as a demonstration and is not kept under special environmental conditions - it's kept in a display cabinet - so the rate of flow of the pitch varies with seasonal changes in temperature.
The late Professor John Mainstone became the experiment's second custodian in 1961. He looked after the experiment for 52 years but, like his predecessor Professor Parnell, he passed away before seeing a drop fall.

š I canāt believe Iām even writing this but I have to tell you now that weāve lost Thurston. It hurts his mom and I to know how much reading this is going to hurt so many of you. Your bond with him was real. Your bond with us is real. Itās always been palpable through the kind words you gave us and the jokes we made with our favorite little guy. I know this is going to feel sudden for you because itās sudden for us as well. I just want to warn you upfront that Iām about to discuss what happened. I know it can be hard to read these kinds of details so I wanted you to be aware.
After 15 years we made a huge positive life change. During the one month since we got here Thurston was loving the new house. Only days before we lost him he was sprinting around the house like a kitten, which is why what happened next was so shocking and difficult to process.
We have been fighting what seems like a sinus infection for several weeks with him. The vets (we had two separate opinions) reasonably thought it had to be either a sinus infection or something related to his teeth. So after treating him with antibiotics and not having the problem go away, the vet suggested we do a dental since
They thought it most likely he had an abscessed tooth. they call us later that day to say that his teeth were all fine but they had found a mass. They asked if we wanted to do a CAT scan, to which we of course said yes, after which it was viewed by a radiologist who confirmed that it was nasal cancer.
Upon waking up, his sinus infection went into overdrive, did not respond to antibiotics, and two days later he was gone. I hope it comforts you to know that we did everything we could to make him feel happy and safe, and that his passing was a gentle one. He spent his last days in front of his favorite lamp with his mom and I making everything feel as normal as possible.
That said, his mom and I are completely devastated. They say dogs are manās best friend, but mine was a cat. A shrimpy, sweet, lovable, goofy white cat. Iām not sure what to do with his social media from here. Iāve been going through his videos and so many of them still make me laugh. Maybe after weāve had time to heal, Thurston can make you laugh again too. š¤
All the love, Matt and Shelli
-Iām probably going to be off-line and not replying to comments, but I will read them and I thank you for all your kind words ā¤ļø

I'm thinking of posting my art on here again I really don't like Twitter anymore and I have no need to use facebook, so I figured I could start with this one uwu (also pspsp follow my bestie @muneaj their art is godly and they're just starting with tumblr) More info and icon under the cut
I never posted the full illustration I made that's on my icon uwu it's a bit old now but I'm still happy with how it turned out for the most part The blonde blue one with physics defying hair is called Aoi and she's a fox, and the gray one is Lumi, she's a Serval/Snow Leopard mix And if the humongous glowy heart wasn't obvious it's a queerplatonic flag, we need some more love for aroace and qpr folk They are besties and they are chillin and I added a big heart cause I can't draw backgrounds <3 I'll tag all of my art as "my art" and "kyuu's art" so if anyone wants to filter them out and only wish to see my reblogs they're free to do so
The icon in it's HQ glory
Canāt sleep. Finally caved and made a Two Birds edit. Decided to go a different route.
