Description: Y/N Wayne brings a very special guest to dinner.
Word Count: 0.8k
Warnings: Cursing
It was rare that all of the bat children were summoned for a reason outside of their nightly duties. It was a sign that shenanigans were about to ensue and Bruce normally took this as a sign to drink heavily. Usually, it was because of Y/N but these little gatherings always left strong memories on each sibling.
"Do we need to be here for this?" Jason asked feeling a bit stuffy in his white button-up shirt. He already rolled up the sleeves and undid the first two buttons.
"Yeah, Y/N gets a new boyfriend like every week," Duke said looking through his comic book. He didn't have anything else to do but this was not how he wanted to spend his day off.
"This is different apparently. She said and I quote 'It's serious this time. I would have his kids,'" Tim used air quotations when explaining why all of them are waiting for Y/N to show up for dinner.
"Hell, maybe I will stick around," Jason said intrigued by the idea of his sister wanting to have someone's kids.
"Whoever sticks around the longest doesn't have to patrol for the next three days." Bruce walked into the parlor where all the children were currently relaxing. No one knows how Bruce does the things that he does but Tim's working theory is that there are secret passages throughout the manor.
"Oh, you're on," Cass said appearing behind Bruce. She was on a new mission to make Bruce flinch. She hadn't been successful yet but she could feel herself getting close.
"Everyone please meet in the dining room. Y/N and her guest have arrived," Alfred said with a smile playing on his lips because he knew that shitstorm that was about to occur.
"I wonder who we're meeting now," Tim thought aloud.
"Probably another model or actor," Damian said holding Pennyworth the Cat. He was only excited to threaten someone else for dating his sister. It had been one of the few times deemed acceptable to threaten people outside of patrol.
"You think I'll be able to get an autograph?" Duke asked. Unfortunately, no one was able to answer because they saw who Y/N's guest was.
"Slade? How the hell did you get here?" Dick asked, noticing how Slade Wilson's arm was wrapped around his sister's waist.
"Y/N get away from him. Is he holding you captive?" Bruce asked. If there's one thing that Bruce was going to be, it would be a concerned father, especially when it came to Y/N.
"What? No, he's my boyfriend," Y/N exclaimed so her family wouldn't start pulling out the weapons that were hidden all over the manor.
"I always knew one of you would give me a heart attack, I always thought it would be Damian or Tim," Bruce
"We're dating," Y/N said happily while looking up at Slade. He placed a kiss on her lips and all of her siblings immediately gagged.
"You're dating my nemesis," Dick accused Y/N with a nagging finger.
"Yeah, he was like thirsting after me real bad so I made him promise not to do dumb stuff," Y/N explained while adjusting her long box braids that were in a ponytail.
"It's true. I haven't plotted against you or anyone close to you in almost one hundred and fifty days," Slade said it was like some kind of accomplishment. He was captivated by Y/N, there was something about her that made him do whatever she wanted without hesitation.
"Thank you, I think," Dick's confusion was written all over his face.
"You're welcome," Slade responded before pulling out a chair for Y/N to sit in.
"Bruce, you're not going to say anything?" Tim asked. Bruce was indeed a man of few words but this was odd even for him.
"I mean I could but then I'd be a hypocrite because I did some stuff with Talia last week and I'm trying to be better. Alfred, please get our finest bourbon, make that three bottles," Bruce may not trust Slade but he still wanted to eat the dinner that Alfred painstakingly prepared.
"Y/N, can I speak to you before we start dinner?" DIck asked in his best big brother voice.
"Sure," Y/N followed him to a nearby hallway.
"He tried to kill me," Dick whispered a little loudly.
"But he's hot," Y/N admitted without shame.
"He's old," Dick was willing to try anything to deter Y/N from dating Slade Wilson, Deathstroke. A mercenary who had tried to kill him multiple times.
"He's a silver fox," Y/N argued back.
"Why are you with him?" Dick asked looking for a genuine answer from his sister.
"I like him and he's kinda funny. Plus he's got a real big-" Y/N's eyes widened as her arms widened to show the size of what she was talking about.
"Eww. I don't need to know that," Dick said covering his ears.
"I was going to say, heart," Y/N tried to be convincing.
"No, you weren't," Dick deadpanned.
"Okay, probably not,"

People always say opposites attract. Most people donât really believe it, though; you, for one, expected to find something compatible, comfortable, or, in other words, similar. That was until you met David âDeaconâ Kay. He is your polar opposite. Youâre a ballerina, and heâs a cop. Youâre soft pastels, and heâs dark blues and blacks. But you love each other more than anything else and are proud of each other in everything you do.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
Since marrying Deacon and moving into his house, he has developed a âdance day ritual.â He makes your favorite light breakfast and serves it with a single red rose. After he wakes you, he kisses you in the bedroom doorway, promising to be on time to watch you.
âYouâre my biggest fan,â you murmur against his lips.
He nods, pulling you tighter against him as he wishes to spend the whole day with you. When you finally manage to direct him to the porch, you have to practically force him off you, laughing as he fights to stay in your arms.
âI will see you tonight,â you argue.
âToo long,â he says with a pout.
He steps backward off the porch, waving as he closes the door, and you begin preparing for your performance. From morning stretches to rehearsals, you have a full day leading up to the dance at the end of it. Deacon never leaves your mind as you prepare, cheering you on from miles away.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âDance day!â Luca cheers as soon as he sees Deacon.
Hondo, Hicks, and Luca always know when you have a recital because Deacon is in a better mood than any other day.
âYou have our tickets?â Hicks asks.
Deacon nods, and Street inquires, âTickets for what?â
âThe ballet,â Luca answers.
Streetâs brow furrows, looking back and forth between the men standing before him. He canât tell if theyâre serious but doesnât know how to ask.
âDeacâs wife is a ballerina,â Hondo explains, filling in the gaps.
âOh!â Street exclaims. âCool. Have an extra ticket?â
Hicks laughs, gripping Deaconâs shoulder as he says, âDeacon would buy out the entire theater just to show off his wife if he could.â
Deacon shrugs but doesnât argue. He knows what heâd do for you.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
Waiting backstage, you take a few deep breaths and smooth your hands over your stomach. Peeking out of a gap in the curtain, you easily find Deacon sitting in the center of the theater. It looks like he brought his entire squad, plus Hicks, Molly, Rocker, and his wife Val. You smile when you see him and step away from the curtain as you tap your wedding ring six times for good luck.
While you were dating and then engaged, Deacon didn't make it to six dances. In his wedding vows, Deacon promised never to miss another one, and so far, he has kept that promise. Once or twice, heâs come in a few minutes late dressed in full SWAT gear but has never missed an entire dance since becoming your husband. He's your good luck.
Approaching your backpack, you pull a small ring safe from the bottom, slide your ring in, and lock it. You hug your friends as you take your place, closing your eyes and focusing on the moves.
The curtain rises, and your eyes lock on Deacon as the music begins while you lift into a relevĂŠ. When you dance in front of Deacon, simply knowing he is in the audience takes all the stress away. Everything melts away except you, Deacon, and the dance you know. It begins to feel like a private show until you pause in the fifth position as the ballerinas before you glissade across the stage. Counting the beats, you find Deacon again as you move to the side, spinning into a fouettĂŠ before performing a grand gete. As you land, you hear clapping and are reminded that your husband and friends will always be in the audience cheering you on. Even if they donât understand ballet etiquette.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
The moment the curtain touches the stage, you rush from your spot, finding your bag in the staging area and exiting in search of Deacon. You compliment your friends as you hurry past, promising to see them at the next practice.
As you rise onto your tiptoes to search the crowd for your husband, Deacon finds you, pulling you into his arms and spinning you around. Wrapping your arms around his shoulders, you raise your feet and laugh against his neck. You feel cellophane pressed against your back and smile as Deacon sets you back on the floor.
âWow, theyâre beautiful! Thank youâ you exclaim as Deacon hands you eleven red roses. After you dance, Deacon always completes the dozen he began at breakfast.
Turning toward his team, you thank them for coming before you are showered with more praise and flowers than you think you deserve.
âBeautiful as always,â Luca says, pulling you into a hug as he passes you a bouquet that matches your costume.
âYou always know just what to get,â you reply, thanking him.
âYou were amazing! I understand why Deac gets everyone tickets,â Street says, smiling.
âWhat are you doing here?â you exclaim, pulling him into a hug. âI thought you would be against anything that happens in a theater.â
âI can give things a try,â he argues playfully.
âOkay, okay, my turn,â Deacon interjects, pulling you into another hug.
After a few minutes of talking to his team, you and Deacon say goodbye and he leads you to his car, setting your bag in the backseat before retrieving your ring and sliding it back on your finger. He stows your flowers safely in the back before returning all his attention to you. Deacon kisses your hand before pulling you closer by your waist.
âYou were amazing, as always,â Deacon whispers.
âYouâre amazing,â you reply, looping your arms over his shoulders to kiss him.
As you pull back, Deaconâs eyes narrow as he asks, âWhat?â
You tap his shoulder, leaning against him to say, âI have a chance to dance at Lincoln Center in New York City. But⌠I donât want to do it unless you can be there.â
âTell me when and Iâll be by your side the whole way,â Deacon promises. âStuck to your side, actually. Like a leech.â
âGross!â you exclaim with a laugh.
âI love you, twinkle toes,â Deacon teases.
You groan, pressing your forehead against his shoulder until he whispers an apology and helps you into the passenger seat.
âWhere to?â he asks.
âAnywhere with you,â you reply.
He leans across the console, kissing you quickly before his big brown eyes meet yours. âI meant: do you want to get food on the way home?â
âNope. Just get me home so I can shower you in affection.â
âThatâs my job; youâve been dancing all day.â
âYou have no idea what I do on dance days, do you?â
âStay on my mind,â Deacon replies, sighing as he takes your hand.
âYou are my biggest fan.â
âThat was never in question.â
Series Masterlist
Summary: Tim meets your class of 25 five-year-olds. 1.2k+ words.
âHey, can I run something by you?â you asked Tim while you were having lunch at his desk.
Tim looked up at you mid-bite of his shared sandwich. He chewed quickly and asked, âOf course, is everything okay?â
You softly bit your lip. âYes. I know you arenât a fan of community outreach, but will you come to my class and talk about safety and what to do in an emergency?â
Tim gave you his million-dollar smile âIâd be more than happy to come and talk to your class. I get to spend a whole morning with a beautiful lady.â He leans over and kisses you. âI also get the added bonus of being away from Lucy, too.â
You shoved him slightly. âI think you like the latter more.â
âHey, thatâs police brutality. I might have to handcuff you to this desk all day and then youâll have to hang out with me.â Tim smiled as he spoke.
âAw! You two are just so cute!â Lucy said when she walked up to the desk.
âHi Lucy, how are you?â you turned and asked her.
âIâm doing well! Do you think we can have a girls night with me, you, Angela, Nyla and Bailey? We could go paint pottery or watch a movie or go laser tag orâŚ." Before Lucy could finish, Tim sent her a glare.
âCan I help you with something, Officer Chen?â Tim growled out.
âOur suspect is ready to talk,â Chen said to Tim.
âIâll see you later,â Tim told you as he kissed the top of your head.
âBye Tim! Bye Lucy! We definitely have to get together soon!â
You wave them off as you pack up and leave.Â
You paced back and forth before school started, waiting on Tim to arrive. You were extremely nervous because your students, while awesome, were very protective of you. Theyâve stopped a presentation before because the man who was talking about his job told the class that they could do better than being a teacher. The poor guy got booed and slightly bullied by the group of 5-year-olds, so you just hope that today goes over well. Tim texted you to let you know that he would be a little late due to the fact he saw a crime being committed right in front of him.
When the bell finally rang, your group of students walked into the classroom all chatting away with each other. They put their bags up and sat down in the respective seats (it took a while for them to get down).Â
âGood morning everyone!â you tell the class when the second bell rang.
âGood Morning Miss. Winchester!â they responded.Â
You started the morning off with doing some freeze dance to get the kids ready to start the day. When that was done, you picked up right where you left off from yesterday. Some students still shouted out answers, but others would remember and raised their hands. You found it adorable how much they enjoy getting to learn. Soon, there was a knock at the door.Â
âClass, we have a very special guest today who is going to talk to us about safety.â You walked up to the door, you let Tim and, to your surprise, two more officers in.
âIS THAT A DOG?!?!?!â a student named Ashley shouted.
All the students erupted in excitement, and you had to use your quiet hand gesture to try and settle the class as Tim, a K9 officer, and a small dog walked up to the front of the class.Â
âClass, Meet Sergeant Bradford from the LAPD,â you announced to the students.
âGood morning, students, as you heard, Iâm Sergeant Bradford, and today Iâm talking about safety. Firstly, I brought two special guests with me, Officer Stan with his K-9 Officer Fuzz.â
Officer Stan smiled and greeted the students as Officer Fuzz, a small dachshund, barked excitedly as a greeting.
âI brought Officer Fuzz in today so you can understand what a K-9 is used for and when to approach one,â Tim explained.
âOfficer Fuzz is used like any other police officer; he helps us find bad guys and can catch bad guys faster than we can. Officer Fuzz can run up to 20 miles per hour, so we typically send him in to run after someone. Officer Fuzz also helps smell out bad stuff for us to take away. You can approach a police dog at any time with permission from the Officer. If you do see a police dog chasing after someone or he looks angry, do not approach. He could accidentally hurt you because heâs trying to protect his fellow officers or trying to stop someone,â Officer Stan explained. âAny questions?â
Lots of hands flew into the air, so you called on a girl named Hanna to ask the first question. âDoes Officer Fuzz stay at the station all the time?â
âThatâs a great question! No, Officer Fuzz is technically my dog. So, when I get off work, he gets to go home and be with me. He also goes in when I do, so just like me, Officer Fuzz gets to be a normal dog when heâs not working,â Stan said.
The students continued their questions about Officer Fuzz and his handler. Before Officer Stan had to leave to go back to work, he released Officer Fuzz so he could run around and receive pets from everyone. Officer Fuzz ran up to you last and laid on his back for belly rubs.
âArenât you the cutest?â You bent down and gave the tail-wagging dog belly rubs.
âYou might have some competition, Bradford,â Stan said with a smile and slightly nudged Tim. Stan called back Officer Fuzz and they both left with waves of goodbyes and a huge âThank you!â from your students.
âHello again! I want to tell everyone what to do if they feel unsafe or lost. If you get away from your mommy or your daddy, find a store worker or an officer to help you find your mom or dad. If you are in danger or hurt, call 911 and we will do everything we can to help you. Do we have any questions?â
âWhat do you do as a Sergeant?â Logan, a young student, asked.
âI am everyoneâs boss; I tell them what to do and make sure their job is getting done. I am currently training someone to become a police officer, they are called a Rookie,â Tim explained.
Your students asked as many questions as they could until the lunch bell rang, and the class let out a collective grown in disappointment.Â
âCan we have lunch with Sergeant Bradford?â Wade asked, and the other students jumped in to agree.
âI donât think Sergeant Bradford can stay any longer, he does have to leave at some point,â you said softly.
âI can stay for lunch,â Tim said with a smile. The class cheered and you sent them to get their lunches and to have a private moment with Tim.
âYou didnât have to stay,â you said to Tim as you looked up at him.
âIâm more than happy to. Your students are wonderful,â Tim said with a smile, and kissed the top of your head.
âDid Miss Winchester fix your heart?â Johnny asked Tim, startling both of you.Â
Tim smiled and looked at you. âYeah, she did,â he answered, which caused you to blush.
Johnnyâs eyes got all big and he quickly ran out to the other students.
âGuys!!!! Sergeant Bradford is Miss. Winchesterâs husband!!â
You then hear a loud scream of joy and all the students running in to ask the both of you a million questions about this new revelation. It was going to be a very long afternoon.Â
Let's pretend The Bear and Abbot Elementary are in the same city.
Another cute interaction between Carmen (Carmy) Berzatto x Abbot Teacher Femreader! Sunshinereader!
Feat Abbot Staff!!
Carmy hated Sundays.
The Bear was closed and for a man used to the relentless pace of a kitchenâorders flying in, knives slicing, pans clatteringâthe stillness of a day off felt more like a curse than a blessing. Without the chaos to ground him, he was left alone with his thoughts, something he avoids at all coast. Heâd tried to fill the hours: cleaning his already spotless apartment, flipping through a cookbook heâd read a dozen times, even going for a run. But nothing seemed to stick. The quiet only made the knots in his chest tighten.
Thatâs why he was here, walking aimlessly through the park, hands shoved deep into the pockets of his hoodie. The air was crisp, the kind of late-autumn chill that bit at your nose but wasnât cold enough to send you running for cover. Leaves crunched under his sneakers, their vivid oranges and yellows scattered across the path like natureâs version of confetti. The walk wasnât fixing anything, but at least it gave him something to do. Something to focus on other than the gnawing sense that he should be doing moreâeven if he wasnât sure what that meant anymore.
The distant sound of cheering, music, laughter, and the unmistakable squeak of sneakers against asphalt drew his attention. Rounding a corner, he spotted the commotion: the parkâs basketball court was packed with people, all gathered around a lively game. A colorful banner hung crookedly above the entrance: Teachers vs. Parents FundraiserâHelp Abbott Elementary Score New Desks!
Carmy slowed his steps, curiosity tugging at him. Abbott Elementary. Heâd heard you mention it in passingâhow you loved your chaotic fourth graders, even when they tested your patience. Youâd shared stories that had made him laugh more than he expected, like the time students were âdeskingâ and one of her coworkers splint her ankle.
On the court, two teamsâone in bright shirts labeled Teacher Squadâwere in the middle of a heated game. The crowd around the edges was just as lively, holding signs and hollering encouragement. Kids raced around with ice cream cones, parents juggled snacks and folding chairs, and a few teachers shouted at their teammates with varying levels of enthusiasm... And cameras?
Carmyâs gaze drifted toward the sidelines, and thatâs when he saw you.
You were holding a clipboard, looking equal parts coach, cheerleader, and chaos manager, laughing as a tall man in a Teacher Squad t-shirt tried to dribble past a petite woman in braids who had the energy of someone far too invested in a friendly game.
âJanine!â you shouted, waving your clipboard. âStick to defense, not interpretive dance!â
Janine threw her arms up. âI am playing defense! I just happen to be expressive about it!â
Another manâwho Carmy guessed was not a regular athleteâtried to block someone but ended up tripping over his own feet.
A ripple of laughter spread through the crowd as a woman with an air of authority rolled her eyes. âJacob, for heavenâs sake, plant your feet!â
âIâm working on it!â The man, Jacob, shouted back, sweating bullets.
Meanwhile, on a DJ setup at the edge of the court, a woman stood at a table with a microphone in one hand and a portable turntable in the other. She was wearing oversized sunglasses and a sparkly "Finest Principal of the Year" t-shirt.
She leaned into the mic, her voice dripping with confidence. âLadies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and everyone else lucky enough to witness this greatness, welcome to The Ava Colemanâs Show! Featuring basketball, fundraising, and these fabulous beats brought to you by yours truly.â
Carmy was unable to look away from the scene. It was chaosâabsolute, unfiltered chaosâbut there was something oddly magnetic about it.
You caught sight of him before he could decide whether to leave or stay. Your eyes lit up in recognition, and you broke into a grin, waving him over. âCarmy? Hey!â
He froze, realizing heâd been caught observing, he hesitated for a moment before stepping closer to you. âUh, hey.â
âWhat are you doing here?â you asked, jogging over to the sideline with a bright smile.
âJust walking,â he said, his tone casual, though his eyes lingered on you a little longer than he intended. âDidnât know there was an event.â
You grinned, gesturing to the chaos behind you. âYep! Teachers vs. Parents fundraiser. Most desks in my classroom are about two good elbows away from falling apart, so here we are.â
âThat bad?â he asked, a hint of a smirk tugging at his lips.
"You have no idea." You laugh.
Carmy glanced at the court, where a small womanâJanine, if he recalled correctlyâattempted a layup⌠and missed. Spectacularly. The ball rebounded off the rim and smacked into Jacob, who yelped and stumbled backward into an older woman, spilling her lemonade.
âJacob!â The woman scolded, dabbing at her blouse with a napkin. âHonestly, itâs a miracle you made it this far in life.â
âIâm fine! Totally fine!â Jacob said, raising his hands defensively before being yanked back into formation by a red haired woman.
âQuit standing there like a scarecrow, Jacob,â she barked. âPlay defense, for crying out loud! And somebody get Barbara another lemonade.â
âLooks... intense.â Carmy tells her.
âOh, it is,â you said with mock seriousness. âMelissaâs out for blood, Barbaraâs refusing to play, and Janine... well, she's... enthusiastic. The only one that can give us a fighting chance is Gregory." You jabbed a thumb over your shoulder toward the court.
On the court, a tall man with a serious demeanorâwhom Carmy guessed was Gregoryâexecuted a perfect jump shot, earning cheers from the teacher's side. Nearby, Janine with a bright smile, clapped enthusiastically.
"Nice shot, Gregory!" Janine called out, her admiration evident.
Carmy chuckled softly,âSounds like youâve got it covered.â
Before you could respond, the DJ's, Ava, voice boomed over the mic again. âHeads up! This next track is dedicated to the parents who thought they could outplay me.â
She hit a button, and Jump Around blared from the speakers.
âIs she always like this?â Carmy asked, nodding toward Ava.
âAlways,â you said, grinning. âBut we love her. Mostly... she's what I like to call a creative leader."
âSo, this is what you do on Sundays?â He asked.
âNot every Sunday,â you said, shrugging. âBut when the kids need desks, we show up. Gotta support the cause, right?â
He nodded, shifting his weight. âSeems like a good cause.â
âIt is,â you said warmly, then tilted your head at him. âYou can stay if you want. No pressure. But, itâs more fun than wandering around on your own, I promise.â
He hesitated, his instinct to keep moving clashing with the unexpected comfort of your presence. âI donât knowâŚâ
âCâmon,â you teased, nudging him lightly. âIâll even buy you a cupcake from the snack table. Chocolate, with sprinkles. The good kind.â
Carmy huffed a quiet laugh. âThatâs your pitch? A cupcake?â
âBest ones in town,â you replied confidently. âBaked by Barbara herself. And trust me, if youâve never had a Barbara Howard cupcake, you havenât lived.â
For a moment, he debated it. Sundays were his least favorite day for a reason. But here, in the middle of this chaosâyour chaosâit didnât feel so bad. Finally, he let out a small sigh and nodded.
âAlright,â he said. âIâll stay.â
âGood choice,â you replied, patting his shoulder before gesturing toward an empty spot on the sidelines. âPark it there, Chef Carmy. Youâre about to witness the greatestâand messiestâgame of all time.â
He watched as you jogged back, clipboard in hand, before stopping in front of Barbara, who was comfortably seated on a folding chair with her arms crossed and a bottle of water balanced neatly on her knee.
âAlright, Barbie, the game's still on track and we are five points down,â you said, tapping your clipboard against your hip with mock authority.
Barbara didnât even flinch, raising a single unimpressed eyebrow. âOh no, dear. Iâve done my part. My knees are not built for this level of foolishness.â
âBut the kids need you!â you countered, raising your hands in a dramatic display of desperation. âThink of the desks, Barbara. The desks!â
Barbara waved a hand dismissively, though Carmy caught the faintest flicker of a smile tugging at her lips. âThe children will survive, desks or no desks. But I will not survive chasing a basketball like a teenager. Itâs your turn.â
You let out a dramatic, theatrical sigh, tossing your clipboard onto the bench. âFine! Guess Iâll have to take one for the team. Again. The things I do for education.â
Barbara chuckled softly, waving you off. âDo your best, dear.â
Carmy leaned against the fence, arms crossed, as he settled in to watch. His eyes tracked your movements on the court as you threw yourself into the game with unrelenting enthusiasm. It was almost endearingâalmost. You darted toward the ball, arms outstretched to block a passâonly to misjudge your angle entirely and slam directly into Jacob, who yelped as he tumbled to the ground in a heap of limbs.
The ball ricocheted off Jacobâs head, soaring through the air and narrowly missing Melissa, who jumped back with a glare.
âWatch it!â she barked.
âSorry!â you shouted, grimacing as you crouched down to help a dazed Jacob to his feet. âThat oneâs on me.â
Jacob groaned, rubbing his elbow. âNo worries. Just another day of being collateral damage.â
âYouâre a champ,â you said, patting him on the back as the ball was scooped up by one of the parents. âShake it off!â
âClassic,â Avaâs voice boomed from the DJ table. âThatâs why you donât mix bad aim with too much confidence. Someone get this on video for the highlight reel.â
Carmy huffed a quiet laugh, leaning further into the fence as the game pressed on. Watching you, he felt the restless tension in his chest begin to ease, replaced by something lighter.
You werenât the most graceful player on the courtâfar from it. Within minutes, youâd tripped over your own shoelaces, collided with Janine during an overly enthusiastic pass, and accidentally launched the ball straight into Gregoryâs face. But every stumble, every misstep, was met with your laughterâa sound so warm and genuine it seemed to ripple through the air, softening everything around it.
Carmyâs smirk deepened as he watched you jog back to your spot, waving apologetically to Gregory, who gave you a long-suffering look in return.
âCâmon, Chef Carmy,â you called out suddenly, spotting him on the sidelines. âDonât just stand there! Grab a cupcake or something! Ava promised to drop the bass for every basket we score.â
âIf you score,â Ava chimed in over the mic, smirking as she adjusted her oversized sunglasses. âLetâs not set unrealistic expectations.â
âThanks for the vote of confidence, Ava!â you shouted back, rolling your eyes.
Carmy chuckled under his breath, shaking his head. He wasnât sure what had drawn him here or why heâd stayed, but as he leaned against the fence, watching the chaotic mix of personalities on the court, he realized something. For the first time in months, he wasnât thinking about work. He wasnât worrying about what needed to be done, what had gone wrong, or what could go wrong next.
Instead, he was just... here. Watching you light up the court with your unrelenting energy, the way you made even the smallest moments feel big like they mattered. Watching the Abbott crewâimperfect, loud, and utterly ridiculousâmade his day feel like the best day of the week so far.
And when the game ended with a triumphant, if not entirely skilful, shot from Melissa, Carmy found himself clapping along with the rest of the crowd, the tension in his chest completely gone.
You jogged over to him, grabbed a water bottle and flopped onto the bench, tilting your head back as you took a long drink.
âYou alive?â Carmy called out, unable to hide the amusement in his voice.
You lowered the bottle, looking at him breathlessly but grinning, wiping sweat from your brow with the back of your hand. âBarely, but Iâm thriving in spirit. Pretty impressive, right?â
He shook his head, his smirk softening into something closer to a smile. âImpressive isnât the word Iâd use.â
âRude,â you said, nudging him lightly with your elbow. âBut Iâll take it. Cupcake?â
âSure,â he said, his voice quieter now, but warm.
And as you handed him a cupcake from the snack table, your fingers brushing his for just a second, he felt something unfamiliarâa flicker of ease, of belonging, of something good.
The sun was starting to dip lower, casting a golden hue over the park. Carmy took a bite of the cupcake, savoring the quiet moment. For the first time in a long time, the restless churn inside him had stilled.
And as he stood there, beside you, surrounded by laughter and warmth, he realized that this Sunday, chaotic as it was, might just be the best heâd had in years.

âIâm calling the police!â a man yells in your face.
âOkay,â you answer calmly.
âWho is in charge of this- this collective stupidity?â he demands.
âI am. And our group is called Need to Know; weâre advocating for-â
âYouâre advocating for a trip to jail. Get away from my store or I will call the police.â
âAll due respect, sir, but this sidewalk is public property, and your store is not endangered by our presence. Civil protests and freedom of speech are not illegal.â
âYet,â your friend and fellow activist group leader, Luke, mumbles.
âForget it,â the store manager exclaims as he tosses his arms up. âYou morons canât be reasoned with.â
He storms off, and Luke rolls his eyes. Your group has staged more than six protests this month, and youâve come to expect threats from people who donât understand what youâre doing.
âShould we move?â Luke asks. âHe may actually call the police.â
You shake your head. âWeâre not doing anything wrong, and this library has repeatedly refused people with physical disabilities and cut hours. They make it practically impossible for people to learn anything here.â
âI get it, I do. But if he calls the police and they actually come, what then?â
âYou tell me, Luke. The kids who canât go to a library or find teachers and classes who are willing to create specialized lessons and one-on-one assistance⌠how do they learn to respond civilly to police officers? If the cops show up, consider it a teaching moment.â
Luke shrugs before yelling to the small crowd of Need to Know protestors to explain that the police may come. You want to demonstrate the importance of common knowledge.
Your group Need to Know is making information available to all, regardless of age, disabilities, learning inefficiencies, or when they have time. Los Angeles is just a hub, a symbol of the growing problem: inaccessibility to information and bias against those who need it most.
âHe actually did it,â Luke mumbles when a police car stops by the curb.
âWhoâs in charge here?â the first officer asks.
âI am,â you answer. You hand your sign to Luke and approach the officers with a smile. âHow can I help you, officers? Is there a problem?â
âWeâve received a complaint that you are trespassing.â
âArenât sidewalks public property? We arenât blocking any foot traffic, only using our voices to advocate.â
âI understand that, maâam, but⌠Several store owners have called and are worried that you will move onto their property.â
âI can assure you that we understand the legality and will not trespass onto private property. What can we do to fix this issue?â
âJust-â
âWait,â the other officer interrupts. âAre your cars parked in that private lot? Because that could be an issue.â
Several Need to Know members nod, and the second cop smiles as he calls for backup.
âI made a purchase at one of the stores this morning, and we have been into the library several times,â you explain. âA library at which we are all members. Can you charge us with trespassing while supporting a city library and local businesses?â
âPipe down, lady.â
âThereâs no reason for that, officer,â Luke interjects, not threatening in any way but firmly defending you.
âWhat was that?â the officer demands as he steps toward Luke.
âI only ask that you show us the respect weâve shown you.â
âNeed to Know,â the officer reads. âYou may want to read just how much we do for this city. Everyone needs to know how to respect police officers, and that itâs our right to defend.â
âYour right?â Luke asks incredulously.
You raise a hand toward Luke to ask him to stop. âPrecisely, officer. Weâre simply trying to make that access available. Citizens do need to know how to respond to police officers, we agree on that.â
âThank you for your time,â the first officer interrupts. He gestures for his partner to get back in the cruiser. âJust make sure this protest remains civil. Have a good one.â
âYou too, officer. Thank you for all you do.â
Luke rolls his eyes as the police officers drive away. You take your sign back, holding it up and getting comfortable for another few hours of answering questions and accepting donations from generous library-goers.
Less than a few hours later, however, someone sets out to send you home early.
âI thought I told you morons to beat it!â someone yells.
You and Luke turn together, immediately recognizing the store manager who called the police. When he raises a sawed-off shotgun, you are forced to push your group back onto the private property behind you. Several of them run for their cars, but you remain in place as the man raises his phone to his ear.
âYeah, I called earlier about trespassers. Theyâre back, and if you donât deal with them this time, I will,â he says into the receiver.
âSir,â you begin calmly.
âNo! You said you wouldnât disturb my shop, but nobody wants to come in when thereâs a bunch of sickos out front with signs! Panhandle somewhere else!â
You can handle people targeting you personally but get defensive and angry when they bring your cause into their attacks. Luke widens his eyes in a silent warning not to start anything; you think finishing the argument sounds like a better idea anyway.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
â20-David, weâve got a trespassing call at a local library,â Hicks calls.
âHow do you trespass at a library?â Hondo inquires.
âApparently thereâs a protest going on, and the strip mall on the next lot has some less-than-impressed owners. Manager of a family-owned organic store just called and said heâd deal with them if we donât.â
âNot exactly a reason for S.W.A.T.â
âNo, but the calls from protestors saying that he has a gun and is threatening to kill the people in charge is.â
âProtestors?â Deacon asks. âSo, we need riot control and to disarm an outraged citizen?â
âThe protest has apparently been civil thus far,â Hicks explains. âBut be prepared for everything.â
âCanât argue with that. Letâs roll!â
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âHow are we sickos for wanting to teach the next generation?â you demand.
âYeah, well every group like yours thinks theyâre doing good, but youâre just making life harder for tax-paying citizens like me!â he yells, waving the gun.
âMan, just put the gun down and weâll go,â Luke offers.
You see a large police vehicle approaching and are surprised to read âL.A.P.D. S.W.A.T.â on the side. Several uniformed men carrying riot shields exit the back door after it stops by the curb.
âL.A.P.D.! Put down the weapon!â Harrelson yells.
Patches displaying their last names are attached to their vests, and you try to read them all as you see them.
âEverybody put your hands where I can see them!â Luca requests.
You, Luke, and the remaining group members set your signs down and lift your hands.Â
âThis is a load of crap,â the manager complains as he sets his gun on the ground.
Harrelson pushes him onto the concrete and cuffs him while Luca and Kay move toward you with the weapons lowered.
âNeed to Know,â Luca reads from a discarded sign. âAre you aware that you are on private property? Itâs illegal to stage a protest without prior authorization.â
âWe were on public property before this guy threatened us with a gun and pushed us back into his parking lot,â you argue.
Kay nods and asks, âWere you asked to leave while being on private property?â
âNo. He told us to leave while we were still on the sidewalk, and he called the police, but once he got us back here, he just accused us of panhandling.â
âHeâs not pressing charges,â Harrelson alerts. âMostly because he canât, but, you know.â
âAlright,â Kay says. You notice that his eyes are on you; yours are on his, too, so itâs not easy to miss. âYouâre free to go.â
âThank you.â
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âWhat now?â you ask Luke. âThe petitions for newer, safer libraries is going to legislative this week, weâre starting the first literacy course in a month⌠We have to keep going, but library protests arenât cutting it anymore, Luke. We have to actually do something. Human rights issues, political issues, everything that people need to know seems to be blocked by the city. The bureaucracy wants to tell part of the truth and make sure the people who need knowledge most donât learn.â
âThat charter school that, whatâs her name, Linda? The one that her kids just got pulled out of?â Luke asks.
âYeah, Home of Hope or whatever. What about it?â
âShe pulled her kids out because they refused to work with her son. Heâs dyslexic and has some social issues, and they said he was difficult and simply couldnât learn.â
âGet there, Luke.â
âPatience, grasshopper. Thatâs the epitome of what weâre fighting against, and the campus backs up to a public park.â
âYou want to stage a protest beside a charter school?â you repeat. âI like that.â
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âWhat are you reading, Deac?â Street asks.
âItâs the website for the activist group Need to Know,â Deacon answers.
âThe protest that we got called out to today. Whatâs so special about them?â
Deacon shrugs. âCuriosity got the best of me, I wanted to see what they were about.â
âLet me guess! Uh, need to know that cops should be defunded, or, no, need to know that women should or shouldnât have rights.â
âBoth wrong.â
âMen shouldnât have rights?â
âTheyâre advocating for accessibility of information. The motto is 'Information for All,' and their mission is teaching people, young, old, disabled, everyone, how to find information they need.â
âWhat kind of information?â
âHuman rights and political issues, financial literacy, home buying⌠what they need to live successful lives.â
âImpressive.â
Before Deacon can agree, Hondo yells for 20-David to roll. He looks into the situation room and smiles when he sees what Deacon is reading.
âDeac, we gotta go. Your friend over at Need to Know staged another protest, but this one turned violent. Even better, itâs on private property at a charter school,â Hondo says.
âMaybe not so impressive,â Street mumbles as he rushes toward Black Betty.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âHey!â one of the parents entering the school yells. âJust because you were homeschooled or bullied in private school, doesnât mean you have to find an issue with every knew school your unpaid taxes help build.â
âCharter schools receive property taxes and state funds from district and state based on enrollment,â Luke explains. âJust like public schools. Those uniforms donât set your kids apart, and the teachers are still just as lazy and unwilling to âdeal withâ special needs students.â
âOh, my bad, I didnât know I was talking to a charter school expert. Whatever teacher you had a crush on, and she turned you down, just get over it man, thereâs better ways to work through your feelings.â
âLuke, donât,â you whisper.
Luke is just as passionate about your cause as you are, and when he drops his sign, you rush to grab his arm.
âOh, you want to do this? Letâs go,â the parent says. âBut I donât think you have the knowledge to tell one end from another.â
âActually, Iâm advocating for idiots like you who donât know what common decency is!â Luke replies.
When the parent runs toward Luke, he rips his arm away from you and throws the first punch.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
You can feel your heartbeat in your eye when the S.W.A.T. vehicle rolls up. This time, you don't wait for a command to kneel with your hands up as the team rushes toward the growing, fighting crowd with riot shields raised.
âL.A.P.D. S.W.A.T.! Everybody on the ground now!â Harrelson yells.
âLuke!â you call.Â
Lukeâs knuckles are busted open, but heâs winning the fight. A fight that never should have started, but maybe it will at least put Need to Know on the map.
âAre you okay?â Kay asks as he approaches you and the small group of still civil protestors around you.
âIâm fine,â you answer shortly. âPretty tired of seeing cops at what start as peaceful protests, though.â
He lowers his shield and smiles at your feistiness. When Deacon read your bio on the Need to Know website, he could tell you were a fighter and incredibly passionate; he didn't witness what the passion did to your attitude during the last call.
âLet me guess, you tried to break up the fight and one of them accidentally hit you,â he continues.
âDo I need a lawyer?â you ask.
âWeâre taking everybody in until we get a handle on what happened here,â Kay answers.
âThen Iâd prefer to answer questions after Iâve received my Miranda rights,â you explain. âOfficerâŚâ
âSergeant Kay.â
âIf thatâs okay with you, Sergeant Kay.â
He licks his lips, as you suspect, to hide his smile before returning to his team to create a plan for getting everyone to the station.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âYou signed a Miranda waiver,â Sergeant Kay muses as he enters the interview room. âI didnât expect that.â
âLots of unexpected things happen,â you reply. âAnd most people canât learn about them, if you can imagine.â
He sighs as he sets a folder on the table. Another officer steps inside, and you recognize him as Luca from the first time you saw them.
âYour written statement matches the story everyone else is telling,â Luca says. âSo, either you all stopped fighting to talk and got your story straight before we got there, or you are the unluckiest activist group in the world.â
You lightly tap your bruised cheek and flinch before saying, âI think it is the second one. Two peaceful protests resulting in S.W.A.T. visits feels pretty unlucky.â
âPeaceful protests for what?â Deacon asks.
âRead the website.â
âTold you she was feistier today,â Deacon tells Luca.
âShe wasnât like this the first time,â Luca replies.
âShe wasnât in pain and desperate to see a semblance of change before,â you interject. âLook, if you really want to know what weâre fighting for, I am happy to tell you, but it seems to me that youâre just killing time to do something else. Run background checks on everyone involved, if I had to guess. But unless Luke or the guy who started the fight are pressing charges, you have no reason to hold me as anything other than a witness.â
âI would like to know what is worth all of this,â Luca says, offering a kind smile.
You nod. âIâm sorry for snapping, then. Our mission is basically to make sure that people are informed on basic knowledge. That thereâs no bias or endless hoops to jump through just to find an answer or help.â
âHow do you plan to do that?â Deacon asks.
Something in Sergeant Kayâs demeanor today makes you think he already knows about your mission⌠and you. More than that, he seems to agree with or support your cause. Maybe thatâs why he smiled earlier.
âOpen newer, safer libraries, improve hours for more accessibility, remove enrollment caps from schools, create unique and specialized education for people with disabilities or learning disadvantages. Everyone deserves to learn, especially the people who want to but donât have the accessibility or opportunity to do so.â
âThen I can see why youâd choose a charter school with nothing to lose by turning people away,â Deacon says.
You lean toward him over the desk and bat your eyelashes as you reply, âIâm glad you see my point. Surely a guy like you can see the good that more education can do.â
Deaconâs eyes widen slightly at your brazen flirtatiousness; he suspects you would be hard to get, even if he wanted to do something. Which he thinks he may.
âMaybe you could tell me more then,â Deacon answers, failing to hide his smile.
âIâll just, uh, give you two some room then,â Luca interjects.
âActually, if Iâm not being charged, I would like to go home now,â you request. Deacon nods and offers a hand; he helps you stand, and you look into his eyes to add, âAlone.â
Deacon watches you leave, and Luca claps his shoulder.
âFalling for an activist group leader is quite literally the last thing I expected from you,â Luca teases.
âWho says Iâm falling?â Deacon replies before leaving and ignoring Lucaâs laughter.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
You are having the first peaceful protest in weeks, and when someone threatens to call the police, you canât refrain from sarcastically responding, âAsk for S.W.A.T. - 20-David.â
When Black Betty pulls up a few minutes later, you smile as Deacon exits the passenger side. He looks around before raising his eyebrows toward you.
âAnd you thought you werenât making an impact. Sixteen calls in a week seem like progress,â Deacon commends. âMaybe not the publicity you want, but who better to change the narrative than an activist group?â
âSixteen calls,â you exaggerate. âMaybe you should just follow us around then, Sarge.â
âWhile I wouldnât be completely opposed to that,â Deacon replies, clearly reciprocating your flirting. âIâm sure you know just how much L.A.P.D. S.W.A.T. does in a day.â
âYouâre saying all of that is more important than me?â you ask with a pout.
Deacon smiles as he steps back toward the vehicle. You wave as they leave, and Luke laughs at you.
âYouâre welcome,â he says.
âFor what?â
âGetting in that fight. You and Sergeant Kay owe your connection to me.â
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
Deacon rolls the window down and looks at you when he gets called to one of your next meetings. He knows you haven't broken any laws, and you'll comply, so he doesn't even bother to exit his car.
âCan I help you, officer?â
âDepends,â Deacon replies. âAre you free tonight?â
âCUBO,â you reply.
âCUBO? For what?â he asks with a laugh.
âIâm pretty sure asking someone who you see almost daily to accompany you on a date would be considered conduct unbecoming an officer.â
âYouâre not a criminal, though. No criminal record, no CUBO.â
âNo dinner.â
âIf itâs not because of the CUBO, then why not?â
âItâs not you, itâs me, Sarge. Ask me again after we actually make some progress with making education accessible.â
Deacon smiles and shakes his head before pulling away.
âWhy are you making him work so hard?â Luke asks.
âIâm not. He doesnât actually like me, Luke. Just the idea of someone doing some good; heâs a cop and a good person, so he likes that.â
âYou think heâs a good person, yet you wonât get dinner with him,â Luke muses. âThat should be illegal.â
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âHey, thereâs someone here to see you, Deacon,â Hicks says. âActivist group leader or something. You need anything?â
âNo thanks,â Deacon answers as he wonders if itâs you and what you are doing visiting him.
If you are here to see Deacon, he thinks maybe you are finally realizing his feelings are genuine. He likes you, and, as Luca puts it, heâs falling for you, but you seem unconvinced every time he tries to ask you out.
âYou asked for me?â Deacon asks as he steps into an interview room.
âI did. I wanted to let you know that Need to Know and the L.A.P.D., after many hours of mediation, have found a solution that benefits us both,â you explain.
âBeing?â
âI am taking a step back from Need to Know because it is moving completely online. No more Los Angeles protests from us.â
âYouâre backing down?â
âNo, weâre just trying a new approach.â
âSo, what now?â
âWhat 'what now,' Sarge? This is the end of me and Need to Know; they have my support but no more black eyes for me.â
âI mean, are you staying in LA?â
âFor now, at least. Who knows where Iâll go next, thereâs lots of activist groups in the world and surely one of them will need a leader at some point.â
âIf youâre so insistent on standing up for the little guy, being a voice for the voiceless, why not become a cop or a special ed teacher? Something a bit moreâŚâ
âTangible?â
âI was going to say hands-on, yeah.â
âSome people just arenât cut out for that, I guess. Maybe Iâll see you around, Sarge.â
âWait,â Deacon calls. âMoving the cause to a bigger platform has to count as progress. You said I could ask you to dinner after you made progress.â
âYou donât want me, Sergeant Kay. Iâll leave the do-gooding up to you.â
Deacon, once again, watches you leave. He knows that âmaybe Iâll see you aroundâ means you will never see him again, so he has to accept that you are going your separate ways. He met you, though, and that was good.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âDrinks are on me, whoâs coming?â Hondo yells.
âIâm in!â Luca answers.
âCanât turn down free anything,â Street adds.
âDeac? We need to get your mind off her, so youâre coming too,â Hondo says.
âFine. But Iâm not doing karaoke with Street again,â Deacon agrees.
âJust because I out-sang you,â Street taunts. âAdmit defeat and move on, Deac.â
âTrust me, kid, Iâm trying.â
Street shrugs at Luca, both aware that Deacon is no longer talking about karaoke.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
âLuke, please donât,â you request as he stands.
âIâll be right back,â he promises before walking to the hostess stand.
âDeacon Kay!â someone yells across the room.
Your eyes raise immediately, and you accidentally lock eyes with the one man you canât stop thinking about. Seeing him is a surprise, though not unwelcome. You smile, and he mutters something to Luca before setting his glass down and walking toward you.
âYou did say Iâd see you around,â Deacon tells you.
âI did. And here you are.â
âYou, uh, you want toâŚâ
âGo somewhere a little quieter?â you suggest.
Deacon nods, and you take his hand to lead him outside. You lean against the outside wall and wait for Deacon to speak.
âThis is awkward,â Deacon mumbles.
âIt could be worse,â you point out.
âHow?â
You smile as you lean toward him. Deacon meets you halfway and grabs your waist as he kisses you. In all the moments you have spent thinking of him, you convinced yourself that he was the best man youâve ever met, and now you are sure of it. More importantly, you believe his advances were genuine, his feelings as real as yours.
The door beside you opens, and you pull away from Deacon when someone gasps. Luke is staring at you with his mouth open, and Deaconâs team appears behind him with similar surprised expressions.
âDo you really like me?â you whisper.
Deacon gestures for Luke to close the door before looking at you.
âI really do,â he replies.
âGood.â You run your finger over his tie as you admit, âBecause I really like you, too.â
âSo, youâve made progress, without sacrificing your feistiness, I may add,â Deacon responds. âNow what?â
âI think we try this. Surely there can be more to our relationship than protests and S.W.A.T. calls.â
âI agree.â
You smile, but Deacon kisses you again before you say anything more. Deacon moves you backward and presses you against the wall with his hand between your head and the bricks. Making out with Deacon in an alley was not how you expected this to go but Sergeant Kay is the best thing that has ever happened to you, perhaps even better than Need to Know making the national news.
âWait,â you pant. Deacon pulls back enough to look into your eyes, and you ask, âIs Deacon really your first name?â
âIs that relevant to trying this?â Deacon jokes as he slips his hand into yours.

âWhat is that?â Lucy asks as she waits beside Timâs desk. âA bomb?â
âLower your voice, boot,â Tim snaps. âWe donât need a stampede.â
âYes, sir. So, what is it?â
âWhat does it look like? Itâs a book.â
âNo, itâs a rook book with a bow on it. And I bet I know who itâs from.â
â50 pushups.â
âBut-â
âYou want double?â
Lucy frowns as she silences, and she watches Tim lift the book. He opens the front cover and shakes his head before dropping it into one of his drawers. Lucy doesnât move toward the door, and Tim sighs as he leans against his desk.
âWhat?â he asks.
âIs that just a book? Or a non-rook-book-rook-book? Like the one somebodyâs pretty TO used to carry?â
âPretty TO?â you ask from behind Lucy.
Tim had been too distracted by the book and Lucyâs prying questions to notice you walk in. Dressed in your Metro uniform, you slide your hands into your pockets and smile.
âIâll assume youâre talking about Tim,â you add.
âYeah, right,â Lucy snorts.
â100 pushups it is,â Tim announces.
âTim,â you chide softly. âYou canât blame her for being excited to see this side of you. It took me your entire probationary period to learn you could smile.â
âChen, give us a minute,â Tim says.
âDo I have to?â she asks quietly.
âYes,â you and Tim say together. The difference is that you add, âPlease.â
You watch Lucy move toward the equipment room before turning to Tim. He furrows his brows and unconsciously blocks the drawer with your gift in it.
âIâm sorry I didnât answer your call last night,â you begin. âMetro raided a speakeasy, and it went a little haywire.â âAre you okay?â Tim interrupts. âThatâs what I was going to ask you. I know you tolerate me, maybe even like me a little, but you donât call unless you need something.â
âI, uh, just wanted to hear your voice. But Iâm fine, I promise.â
You nod and run your tongue over your bottom lip as you think. âStill have nightmares?â
âIâm fine.â
âLook, Lucy is ready to pass that test, but in the end moving to Metro is a big decision. One you can do; I donât doubt that. Just⌠donât stick around because you think you have some debt to pay or something. Your boot is important, but your career is too.â
âIâll remember that.â
Your Metro Commander yells your name, and you lay a hand on Timâs shoulder before whispering a farewell. He watches you go and decides that when he calls you tonight, heâll ask why you chose the book you did. Hopefully, he thinks, it will allow him to admit some things. He needs more than your voice to calm him in the middle of the night these days.
âCan I just say one thing?â Lucy asks from the passenger seat of the shop.
âWill me saying no stop you?â Tim replies.
âI think youâre really cute together. Sheâs been waiting for you, and I donât think you should make her wait just because youâre scared.â
âWhat makes you think Iâm scared? You mean well, Chen, but this is none of your concern.â
âMaybe not. But itâs yours, and you know Iâm right.â
Tim wants to keep arguing, maybe threaten Lucy with more pushups to make her leave it alone, but the radio cuts him off.
âAttention all units. Officer down at Wilshire Federal Building. Metro requesting backup. Will advise.â
Timâs world slows as he pulls the shop to a curb. He and Lucy are too far away to provide backup fast enough, but he canât move until he knows that youâre okay. Lucy watches him as he stares at the radio, but with each second of silence, she gets more concerned for him.
âSheâs going to be okay,â Lucy whispers.
Tim shakes his head. He doesnât want to think about the alternative but believing that youâre okay without knowing is more dangerous than being wrong and hearing another officerâs name over the radio.
âBradford, Chen, Harper, Nolan,â Wade radios. âGet back to the station and prepare to assist Metro.â
âUh, you- you drive, Lucy,â Tim says as he unclips his seatbelt.
âAttention all units,â the dispatch officer begins.
She identifies the downed officer, and when your name is said, Timâs world stops. He waited too long, and now he can never tell you how he feels. He had a crush on you, he wants to say, but it turned into so much more.
âTim,â Lucy calls as she opens the driver-side door. âCâmon.â
Tim doesnât feel any shame as he leans on Lucy. She ushers him into the passenger seat before she drives to the station with lights and sirens on. Timâs silence is terrifying, and although Lucy is also feeling grief and is heartbroken to hear youâre gone, her concern for Tim outweighs her own emotions.
As Tim exits the shop, his devastation suddenly makes room for anger. He doesnât blame any of your fellow officers, but if he had moved to Metro sooner, he would have been there with you, and maybe he could have changed the outcome. He slams the door and ignores Lucy as he storms into the bullpen.
Lucy and Tim slow as they see several Metro teams gathered together, but itâs obvious that something is wrong, something is missing. Thereâs a gap where you should be, and even the elite tactical officers seem lost without you.
âWhat happened?â Tim asks.
âOfficer Bradford, we canât release any information yet,â Wade answers. âMetroâs going to fill you in on what you need to know. They need as many of us as they can get.â
Tim clenches his jaw to stop the remark that he wants to make. The Metro teams are talking quietly, and he gestures for Lucy to step to his other side as he moves closer.
âYou saw the shot?â one of them asks.
âYeah,â someone answers.
âThen whereâd they take her?â
At the realization that youâre not only gone, but they donât even know where your body is, Tim begins looking around. He sees his Sergeant, Captain, and the Metro commanders huddled in a corner and walks directly to them.
âI want a position in the task force. You need more people, and Iâm one of the few patrol officers who knows how to complete a manhunt like this,â he demands.
âI understand where youâre coming from Bradford, but youâre too invested in this to go out alone,â Wade replies.
âThen let me go with him,â Lucy interjects. âTim knows what heâs doing, and we can patrol and engage in the manhunt at the same time, right?â
Wade looks to the Metro sergeant to his left, who shrugs noncommittedly. He sighs before nodding and tells Tim to get back out on the street and wait for the information about the gunman.
âWait,â Tim tells Lucy as he stops beside his desk.
He pulls the book from the bottom drawer and tucks it under his arm before continuing to the shop. If this is his last drive where youâre involved, he wants you there. Or as close as he can get.
âDispatch released a picture,â Lucy says before turning the dash computer toward Tim.
He looks at the picture until the light turns green, and then he begins a grid search surrounding the Wilshire Federal Building. If that man is still nearby, and Tim finds him first, prison will be the least of his worries.
âWhatâs the book?â Lucy inquires.
âItâs her favorite,â Tim answers.
âYou know what her favorite book is. Thatâs really sweet, Tim.â
âSheâs been telling me for years to read it and I keep making excuses not to.â
âAnd now?â
Tim nods, and Lucy knows that he is going to not only read the book but devour it and everything related to it to feel close to you again.
â7-Adam-19, assault in progress inside Shell gas station at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Greenfield Avenue. 9-1-1 caller requested your presence on scene.â
Tim hits the steering wheel before telling Lucy to accept the call. He doesnât have time to break up a fight in a gas station, not when your killer is on the loose. The gas station is less than five minutes away, but Tim gets grumpier with every minute. As he and Lucy enter the gas station, heâs prepared to jump in the fight just to finish it faster.
âYou called the police, whatâs the problem?â Tim asks the cashier.
The young girl looks scared; her face is pale, and her hands shake above the cash register.
âThis doesnât look like an assault in progress,â Tim adds with his arms crossed tightly over his chest.
Lucy steps forward to speak to the girl while Tim looks around. The gas station is empty, but Tim doesnât make it far before he sees a blood trail on the floor. It rounds the end of the cashierâs counter and disappears under a door. Tim pulls his gun and whispers for Lucy to stay ready as he steps toward the door.
âIn there?â Lucy asks.
The woman behind the counter nods, and Lucy gestures for Tim to go ahead. Tim pushes the door open and raises his gun to clear the room while Lucy stays on the other side of the opening. He looks down to follow the blood but freezes when someone speaks.
âOfficer Bradford, California Penal Code 217.1 is punishable by what?â
âChen!â Tim yells as he holsters his gun.
Lucy hits the light switch for the storage closet, and Tim kneels to lift a bloody gun from the floor.
âThey said you died,â Tim says as he moves closer to you.
You hear Tim begin asking questions when he enters the gas station and hope the cashier that you scared by walking in covered in blood can point him to your hiding spot in the storage closet. Your gun is on the floor beside your feet and your long-sleeve Metro t-shirt is balled against the gunshot wound in your shoulder.
When Tim opens the door, you ask him about a penal code before your head tips forward. Staying conscious while losing blood isnât as easy as some may think, and you want to make a joke, but Tim jumps to action before you can.
âThey said you died,â Tim says quietly.
He lays a hand over your cheek as his other hand applies more pressure to the fabric on your shoulder.
âI think that was the goal,â you mumble.
âChen, radio for-â
âNo!â you interrupt. Your voice raises at the idea of Chen communicating this news over the radio. âThe men who we went in there to arrest have radios. They knew we were coming, but if they think Iâm dead we can use that.â
âYou need help,â Tim argues.
He reaches for his phone, and you lay a bloody hand on his forearm to stop him. You wait for him to look at your face to smile.
âWe find another way to get help. But as far as anyone with a police radio knows, Iâm still dead.â
âHow am I supposed to get you treatment for a GSW without raising any red flags? Any ER nurse will call the police.â
âWhat about Grace?â Lucy suggests. âNolanâs friend? If we could talk to her before we take you in, she may be able to keep it quiet.â
âIf you think it will work, letâs do it,â you agree.
âNo,â Tim interrupts. âWeâre not putting your life in the hands of a rookie.â
âTim, sheâs right. This is a good plan and one we need if we want these guys off the street. Please, just trust me and Lucy for a few minutes. You can yell at us and brainstorm new Tim Tests later.â
âCall Grace,â Tim says as he moves his arms around you. âIf this starts going wrong, or something happens to you, I will use my radio.â
âUnderstood.â
You keep your uninjured arm across your chest as Tim lifts you into his arms. Lucy leads the way out and opens the backdoor of the shop before apologizing to the gas station clerk. She leaves her card and scribbles the number of someone who can clean the bloody scene but reminds the girl not to call the police or tell anyone you were here. As Tim drives through traffic and Lucy talks to Grace, you notice a book in the floorboard and chuckle.
âWhat?â Tim asks quickly.
âYou have my rook book.â
âGuess I donât have to read it now that youâre not dead.â
âIf I didnât know better I would think youâre mad at me, Bradford.â âYou know exactly what Iâm thinking.â
âDonât risk your job for revenge, Tim. I know you care about me, and I care about you, too, but this isnât worth it. We work the case like any other.â
âEasy for you to say,â Tim snaps. âYou didnât think the woman you love was murdered twenty minutes ago.â
Lucy ends the call and looks through the cage at you. Itâs not how Tim planned to tell you, but he feels lighter with the admission.
âIâm sorry, Tim,â you whisper.
âTell me after.â
âIâm not waiting until the end of Lucyâs probation period.â
âPlease donât,â she agrees. âI can only take so much more pining from this one.â
âI donât pine,â Tim grumbles.
âYes, you do,â you and Lucy argue together.
âBradford, status report?â Wade radios.
Tim looks at Lucy, who apologizes quickly for not communicating a code 4.
âCode 4, Grey,â Tim replies. âBut donât ask any questions right now.â
âOkay. As long as you didnât break any laws, this conversation never happened.â
Tim glances over his shoulder at you, and you state, âI havenât broken any laws. Have you?â
âNot yet. If thereâs blood on this book later, thatâs your fault.â
Tim sighs, and it sounds almost like a laugh. You donât have time to tease him before he pulls into the emergency room drop-off area of Shaw Memorial Hospital. Grace and several nurses run out and wheel you in quickly, promising to help you without asking any questions or reporting anything to the police.
âWhat now?â Lucy asks as the doors close behind you.
âNow, we find the people who are getting 15 to life for trying to kill an officer for completing her duties,â Tim answers.
âTim,â Lucy calls.
He stops, and she points to the blood staining his skin. Tim opens the trunk of the shop and retrieves a pack of wipes from one of the war bags. Lucy watches as he harshly scrubs your blood from his skin and gets angrier with every wipe he tosses aside.
âAre you sure youâre up for this?â she asks.
âLucy,â he begins as he slams the trunk closed. âIâm pissed off and I have a feeling in my chest that Iâm not used to. But how I feel doesnât matter. Weâre going to get every single one of the people involved in this, and make sure they end up in a hole.â
âBy âa hole,â you mean prison, right?â Tim walks around the shop rather than answering, and Lucy rushes to repeat, âYou mean prison, right?â
â7-Adam-19, report to Sepulveda and Ohio Avenue.â
âWhat now?â Tim yells.
He steers the shop into an illegal U-turn and speeds down Sepulveda Boulevard. Lucy gasps as they near the intersection.
âTurn left onto Ohio,â she says.
âWhy?â
âJust do it!â
âSecond left onto Camden,â she adds after he turns.
Tim slams on the brakes when he sees someone sitting on the curb at the end of Camden Avenue. Lucy exits the shop as soon as it stops and rushes to hug you as you stand.
âArenât you supposed to be in the hospital?â Tim demands as he joins you.
âUh, no?â you guess.
âItâs not your fight anymore. Youâre dead, remember?â
âTim-â
âNo, youâre going home. You just got out of the hospital.â
âIt was just a flesh wound. Lots of blood, a couple of stitches, but no long-term damage. Besides, whenâs the last time you got to watch a ghost slap the cuffs on her killer?â
âLook around Tim,â Lucy encourages.
He already know where he is: the sight of his first arrest with you as his TO, itâs a day heâll never forget. Tim groans before he waves his hand toward the shop. Lucy cheers and offers you her seat. Itâs strange being in the passenger seat with Tim again; last time you were here, he was in long sleeves and fresh out of the Army. He was a great rookie, and heâs a great TO, but you want him to be more.
âTim!â you alert just as Tim slows to a stop.
âI see him,â he agrees.
âWas that too easy?â Lucy asks.
âWell, itâs not over yet,â Tim responds.
âWe can do it,â you tell Tim. âYou go left, I go right, Lucy splits the middle.â
âThis is the coolest thing Iâve ever done,â Lucy whispers from the backseat.
âAlright,â Tim agrees. âLucy, you do whatever you have to do to get the one in the middle down, okay?â
â3⌠2⌠1âŚâ you and Tim count down together.
You exit the shop silently and leave the doors open. As Tim goes wide to take down the suspect on the left, you move toward the man who shot you. You, Lucy, and Tim strike at the same time and push the suspects down onto the sidewalk. The man beneath you attempts to elbow you in the face, but you shove his head down against the concrete and warn him against moving.
When you cuff him and pull him up to his knees, the man gets a good luck at your face. His expression changes and he leans away like youâre truly a ghost. He tries to move back, but only tips and rolls into the street.
âLeave him,â Tim says as he reaches for his radio. âGrey, this is Bradford, Chen, and our missing Metro officer. Weâve got good news and three suspects in custody. Send backup to my location.â
âNo R/A?â you ask. âBecause you seemed really eager to send me back to the hospital earlier.â
âYou seem fine,â Tim explains with a shrug.
âTim,â you call as you exit Wadeâs office.
Heâs changed into his civvies and is preparing to leave for the night. You canât let him, though, because there is no more time.
âCan you- do you wanna come over for a bit?â you ask.
The left side of Timâs lips move up as he nods, and you accept his hand as he leads you to his truck. Tim drives to your home in relative silence, and you use the time to find the right words to say. Once youâre inside, you sit on the couch beside Tim and decide to tell him everything. Youâve let him into your life and your house, now you just have to let him in on how you feel.
âYou said you loved me in the shop today,â you say. âBut I have been falling for you since the moment you walked into roll call your first day. Youâve always been more than my rookie and I canât live another day without you in my life, Tim. I want you. Nightmares, embarrassing memories between us, fake rook books, all of it. I need you, Tim.â
Tim leans closer with his arm stretched on the back of the couch behind your shoulders. âThis is better than 1001.66,â he murmurs.
âDid you just compare my confession of being in love with you to a penal code about bad checks? Because that is-â
Your words end in a hum as Tim curls his arm around your shoulders and kisses you. He tugs you closer, and you hold his face between your hands as you show him that your words are more than that. Tim has had a crush on you since he started patrolling with you, but now he knows that he loves you and needs you beside him. You push him, and he pushes you, but you do it because you know what youâre capable of.
Timâs phone rings, but he ignores it as he pulls you closer, so your legs are bracketing his. He leans up to continue kissing you as his phone begins ringing again. You press your hands against his chest and break away to retrieve his phone. He follows your movement and peppers kisses along your jaw, completely uninterested in answering his phone.
You see the name on the caller ID and answer, âHi, Lucy.â
âHey!â she replies. âI wanted to ask how youâre doing. And if Timâs alright after everything that happened.â
âWeâre both fine,â you promise breathlessly.
âWait-â
You assume that Lucy realizes that you answered Timâs phone, which means youâre still together. She squeals into the phone, and you pull it away from your ear and smile.
âOh, I have to tell Angela!â she yells.
Tim rolls his eyes and keeps one hand around your waist as he pulls his phone away from you. âBye,â he says quickly before ending the call.
âHanging up on your rookie isnât nice,â you say.
âLike you wouldnât have hung up on me.â
âYou were scared to call because you had a crush on me.â
âStill do.â
âWhat? Tim-â
Tim cuts you off with another kiss; itâs his answer and a reminder of how he feels. You remember the rook book that was in his truck, but now that youâre a permanent fixture in Timâs life, you can make sure he reads it.

The excess room in the transport van was much appreciated, as you, Eddie and Venom travelled to meet the famous Avengers. Eddie stayed with you for most of the journey, but Venom wanted to take over every now and then, complaining that he wanted to see you and that he was bored.
You knew the main reason for the van was to act as a somewhat transport cage for Venom, especially with the armed guards behind you and one in the passenger seat, but you understood.
Being with Eddie and Venom for the past two years and seeing what Venom could do, you completely understand peoples caution. Venom tried to act innocent and like he didnât understand the need for armed guards, but he knew why, and you think deep down he was a little proud.
âAre we almost there?â Venom continued to complain.
âI think weâre pulling in now, Vee,â you smile sweetly and patiently at the large alien.
âMr. Brock, it might be best for you to be the one to meet with the Avengers first,â the armed guard in front of you informed.
âWhat?! Thatâs not fair!â
The guards pulled their guns, and Venom smiled wide as he licked his fangs, obviously excited for a fight. You knew this was stressing Eddie out and that Venom could easily take these guys out, so to calm the situation you gently placed your hand on Venoms bicep.
âHey, V, think of it this way, they see Eddie first and think itâs fine, and then when the times right you can make a big appearance, wowing and scaring everyone.â
You always knew how to stroke Venoms ego to make him behave.
âVery well,â he simply spoke as he let Eddie come back.
Seeing Eddieâs face and body once again, you both sighed a sigh of relief. Holding onto Eddieâs hand tightly, you see the van is slowing down and a woman in a professional looking pants suit and tablet is ready waiting for you.
Giving Eddieâs hand a last squeeze of encouragement, you both step out of the vehicle.
âYou must be Eddie and Y/N, welcome to the Avengers headquarters. My name is Maria Hill, and Iâll be introducing you and ah- your friend to the team.â
Maria was sweet, although you could tell a little nervous. You and Eddie knew that the Avengers had seen lots of different and dangerous things, but it seems Venom is still a challenge for them.
Walking down the halls to the planned meeting area, Maria is pointing out different things about the building, where things are, what things do, who certain people are.
As youâre all about to step into the elevator together, you hear someone running over.
âHey, hold the elevator!â You hear someone yell.
Turning around to look at who the voice belongs to, you notice it is no other than John Walker, aka Fake Cap, as you, Eddie and Venom call him. You knew youâd most likely encounter him today, and you all had to prepare each other to meet him, and be on your best behaviours.
âAh, John good to see you,â Maria told him, obviously trying to hide a wince, âthis is Eddie and Y/N. Eddie is a new potential recruit and Y/N is his partner.â
At hearing you were dating Eddie, something seemed to pass Johnâs eyes, a look of both intrigue and mischief, but whatever it was, it put you on edge.
âNice to meet you, Y/N,â he spoke only to you as he stepped into the elevator with you, a little close for your liking.
Eddie put his arm around your waist and you could hear Venom growl. Eddie and Venoms protection of you seemed to amuse him, as he smiled creepily, and his eyes leered at you.
Facing the doors for the rest of the lift ride, you could still feel Johnâs eyes on you the whole time. Eddieâs grip on you got tighter and tighter as you could tell he was trying to hold back Venom.
You comforted them as they protected you.
Walking into the large lab-like room, the rest of the team stood around an area that was no doubt designed for Venom to show himself. Venom had a crowd and a podium, this is exactly what your little drama queen wanted.
After Maria had introduced you to the anxious group of heros, you let go of Eddie and encouraged him to step forward.
While you watched Venom appear through Eddie, you tried to ignore the way Johnâs eyes obviously bore into you, as if he was studying your actions. Venom stood to full height and waved at you like a kid at a talent show, your wave back seemed to interest John as his stare became even more intense.
Luckily for everyone, Venom was a little too busy showboating to notice how close John now stood to you.
âAlright, Vee, I think thatâs enough, sweetheart, time to bring Eddie back,â you called to him as you could see he was getting a little too excited.
Being with both Eddie and Venom could be challenging sometimes, especially when Venom acted like a toddler, but you knew there was more to him than that. You knew how to wrangle him in, and he knew how to make you laugh and look after you.
The team seemed almost amazed that you could bring him back so easily, but the amazement quickly turned to relief as Eddie appeared again. Everyone parted for Eddie to stand beside you, except for Maria, who had most likely practised keeping her cool, this kid Peter who was more excited then scared, and of course, John.
âAlright well, if itâs alright with you Y/N, weâd like to talk with Eddie in private now. Please feel free to wait in the common room I showed you and weâll come get you once weâre finished.â
You felt a little worried to leave your boys alone, but you made sure to give Eddie a comforting hug and whisper a stern âbehaveâ into Eddieâs ear, before you left.
********
The common room was nice, it was about midway up the tower with large glass windows to see all over the city. After such a long trip it was to your delight that the room was empty, so you could have any of the big comfy couches all to yourself.
Once you made yourself a drink from one of the fancy machines in the kitchen area, you got yourself comfortable and began to read with your warm drink.
It seemed the meeting with Eddie was taking longer than you thought it would, as you finish a chapter and your drink. Standing up you decide to go back to the kitchen to get a cool drink of water. Unfortunately as you turn toward the kitchen however, you almost run into John.
Seeing him alone, and now standing so close, you try your best to calm your breathing.
âArenât you supposed to be in the meeting?â You asked, trying your best to sound pleasant.
Instead of answering, he simply gave you a sly shrug and smile, as he pushed you against a table, trapping you between it and him.
âWhat the fuck, John?â
You try your best to shove him off, but itâs no use. Looking into his eyes with fear, his stare only appears predatory as one of his hands rests on your hip.
âWhat? Youâre not gonna call me âsweetheartâ like you did with the monster? Hmm? Pretty thing like you dating both a man and a monster. What Brock not man enough for you? Need a monster to fuck you too? You really are a kinky little bitch. I like that.â
You were petrified, frozen in fear, as you prepared for him to kiss or grab you, but it never came. Instead you feel his body weight leave yours, and you see him thrown around the room.
Venom lets out a loud growl as he pinned him against the wall by his neck.
âHow dare you speak to her like that! How dare you touch her!â
Still frozen from shock, you canât move to stop him, and it seems like none of the rest of the team want to do anything either. John thrashes about in Venoms grip, and the team look like theyâre trying to work out if and how to save him.
âThis guys growing on me, I say we let him join,â Bucky laughs to Sam, everyoneâs attention on Venom and not you.
Sam simply rolls his eyes at his friend and groans, realising heâs the one who has to stop all this.
âAlright, I think heâs had enough, big guy.â
You knew Sam wouldnât be enough to stop him, and you didnât want someone innocent being hurt by Venom.
âVenom!â You finally find your voice and call out.
You try to think of more to say, but as he and Eddie look at your trembling form, itâs enough for him to stop.
âMy sweet,â Venom strides over to you, with each step he turns back into Eddie.
âLetâs get you outta here, sweetheart,â Eddieâs hand comes up to gently stroke your cheek.
âUm huh hmm, Eddie and Y/N, if youâd like to follow me, I can show you to a room for you to stay for the night,â Maria awkwardly interrupted, attempting to soothe the situation.
As if in a numb state, you simply followed Eddie while he gently drags you along. You seem to zone out the whole trip there, until you hear a buzz of your door opening.
âCome on, baby. Get you into bed and Iâll hold you.â
Eddie gently pulls you into the room, and begins to make you comfortable. Sweetly laying you down on the double bed, he takes off your shoes and socks, pulls the covers over you and crawls into bed on the other side of you.
âCome here, sweetheart,â he gentle coaxes as he opens his arms.
The second you lay on his warm chest, a floodgate of tears fall down your face, and the fear and anxiety hits you all at once.
âIâm sorry, baby. We love you so much,â Eddie coos as he rocks you, safe in his arms.
18 and up, yâall.
Another week later, you opened your door to find Lucy on the other side of it, wrapped in a robe. Viktoria skulked glowering behind her. You folded your arms over your chest, a conversation with Walt coming back to you about a pre-wedding tradition.
âSpa day?â you asked, warily eyeing Viktoria.

A/N: This is the finale. I hope it meets some expectations, if not all. Sorry itâs taken so long to write.
18 and up, yâall.
There were no servants to be seen in the winding corridors that led toward Waltâs bedroom, and not one of his steps faltered, his arms like pliable steel around you. The long hem of your dress fell almost to the tops of his shined dress shoes, white lace drifting to and fro with the sway of his movement.
You glanced up at Waltâs face, your heart hammering a fast staccato in your chest. He caught your look and winked, a slow unfurling grin revealing the blunt points of freshly returned ready canines.

peter enters the apartment like a hurricane, his shaking body and heaving breaths impossible to ignore.
âpeter?â you ask, eyes wide with concern. âwhatâs wrong?â
he doesnât answer at first as he looks at you. of course youâd be wearing tiny pajama shorts right now, when he has no control of where his eyes land. heâs trying hard to catch his breath, his hands clenching into fists. he brushes the hair curled with sweat off his forehead and forces himself to look you in the eyes, raising his head higher. he anchors himself on your kitchen counter behind him. âaphrodisiac.â he breathed. âcame home for my research.â he gulped, pushing himself to his bedroom, still evidently woozy. âgotta be an antidote.â he started to sway to the side, and you moved on instinct for him to fall in your arms.
âeasy.â you drawled, arms shaking with his weight. youâve never seen him in this state before. âwhereâs the antidote? do we have it?â you try to keep your voice level, but the urgency escapes your tongue in droves.
he shakes his head, looking up at you. his brown eyes have been blown even darker, the pupil completely swallowing his irises. âlab. somewhere. gotta go.â he pushes off of you, but you grab his shaking hand.
âthere is no way in hell iâm letting you leave here like this.â you took a deep breath, knowing the ethics of this are dubious at best, since youâve been attracted to him since the day he moved in and he is technically drugged. heâs obviously in pain, and you canât let him go out alone all the way to the lab to get the antidote. you donât even know if heâd survive. âlook. itâs an aphrodisiac. iâŚ.â you closed your eyes before you continued. âif it will take the pain away, you couldâŚ.take it out on me.â you swallowed, trying to put it gently.
peter looks at you in shock, managing to push himself off the ground all the way. âyou mean it?â he asks, looking straight at your lips. âbecause it wouldâŚâ his voice trails off, cracking.
âyes.â you grab his shoulders. âi mean itâ
peter immediately grabs your face with his large hands and pulls you into him, his lips sliding against yours in an anxious release. you didnât imagine your first kiss going like this, but it doesnât count, right? as soon as he gets a bit of control of himself, though, he slows down a little, capturing you in a breath-sucking kiss, both of you breaking away for air twice. âare you sure?â he asks again, his voice a low rasp this time. you nod and he urges you to jump, carrying you with a kiss into his bedroom.
he lays you on the bed as gently as he can, and you immediately make work of sliding off your shorts and underwear. heâs so obvious with his staring, itâs adorable. âcan i?â his eyes wander down and he asks again in that low rasp. âplease?â
the way he said please sent a shiver down your spine. âyeah.â you answered breathlessly. âwhat do you want?â
âmy face buried in your thighs.â he responds instantly, with the cadence of a casual conversation for something so brazen. you stifle a gasp and nod. he wastes no time gripping your thighs and hooking them on his shoulders. âyouâre fucking dripping, baby.â he remarks as he starts to explore with his fingers. âthis for me? you like seeing me worked up?â he almost whispers.
âi think so.â you manage to get out in between gasps from his fingers brushing against your clit. âdoâŚdo that more.â
âthis?â he asks, rubbing his thumb in circles. âyou like that, baby?â you squeeze your eyes shut and throw your head back with a stifled moan as your answer, and he grins. he takes this opportunity to start putting his mouth to work, his tongue lapping crudely as his thumb resumes pressing all of your nerves. the way heâs sucking and licking is filthy, the wet noises, his hums of delight and your cries of pleasure create a cacophony of pornography. you buck your hips against his face, pulling him closer lightly by his hair and when he groans you feel it inside of you. you whine, arching your back and he has to pin your hips down with a hand. he pulls his face away for a second, his mouth glistening with a smirk. ânow who canât control themselves?â
âshut up.â you whined in embarrassment, grabbing his hair and pulling him back down. he breathed a laugh against your clit, and you squirmed as much as you could in his hold. youâre not gonna last. he hummed and spoke into you, âyes maâam.â and you knew you were done for.
âpeter?â you whimper in between heavy breaths. âgonna cum.â
âyeah, baby?â he pulls his face away a bit, still keeping his thumb in position, only switching it to take your clit between his lips. âgo on. cum for me.â
thatâs all it took for you to release all over his chin with a weak little cry, your voice hoarse and breathless. you try to catch your breath, laying your head back on his pillow. âalrightâŚâ you breathed. âjust give me a secondâŚand you couldâŚwe could-â
â-about that.â he interrupted you. âiâŚ.i already did?â he says in a question, almost like heâs embarrassed, stark contrast to what his tone was minutes ago. âthe effects wore off. letâs just leave it at thatâŚâ he trailed off, coughing. you prop yourself up on your elbows.
âdidâŚdid youâŚâ you look down. âcum in your suit just from eating me out?â
he takes a deep breath, looking at you up and down. âmaybe.â
you fall back with a giggle, and he immediately gets defensive. âwhat?â
ânothing.â you shake your head, the blood rushing to your face. âjust so fucking hot.â

Now you are engaged, and Tim is now a Metro Liaison Sergeant. Both of you keep your personal lives very private, so only Sergeant Grey and Angela know about Jasper.
You and Tim walk into the precinct to the smell of stale coffee and printer ink. The station is filled with the soft shuffling of papers and soft morning chatter amongst the other officers before roll call. You both head to the locker rooms where Tim changes into his uniform, and you get ready with Harper, Lopez, Chen, and Jaurez. You all chat about cases you've been working on and discuss plans for girls night.
"Y/L/N, come see me in my office for a second," Sargeant Grey calls across the bullpen from his office door.
You walk over and step into his glass office. "What can I do for you, sir? you ask politely.
"Officer Wrigley called out sick, and I need someone to train Officer Daniels today. I know you haven't been a T.O. for years, but you're all I got." He explains from behind his desk.
"Don't worry about it; I got it, sir." You say with reassurance.
"Thank you. You're dismissed." He says, and you walk out to change into your patrol uniform.
30 minutes later you're walking into the roll call room. You walk down the aisle and sit next to Nolan.
"Hey Y/N, are you riding patrol today?" He asks, noticing that you're in uniform today.
"Yeah, Grey's got me filing in for Wrigley today." You replied as Sergeant Grey walks up to the podium at the front of the room.
Sergeant Grey then leads roll call, and Tim discusses a suspect that Metro is tracking. His facial expression slightly changes once he notices youâre in uniform, but he remains professional during the briefing.
âWhy are you in uniform?â Tim asks in an unamused tone as he walks up to you after Grey dismissed everyone.
âGrey needs me to train Daniels today because Wrigley called out,â you explain to him.
âYou havenât been a T.O. for at least ten years,â he protests. He doesnât like the idea of you riding patrol, much less with a âtoddler with a gun.â
âItâs just for today, Tim; Iâll be ok,â you say with a reassuring smile while looking up at him.
âAlright, if there are any problems, call me,â he says.
Later that day, while youâre riding with Officer Daniels, you get a call from Tim.
âHey Tim,â you say once you answer your phone from the holder in the shop.
âY/N, you need to come back to the station; itâs about Jasper.â He says in a soft but serious tone.
âWhy is he ok? Is something wrong?â you ask while your face heats up and your heart starts beating fast.
âWeâll talk when you get here; I love you,â he says calmly.
âI love you too. Weâll be there in 5 minutes,â you reply before ending the call.
"May I ask who Jasper is?" Officer Daniels asks next to you.
âMy son,â you reply in a stern voice.
"Is heâ " he starts, but you cut him off.
"No more questions, boot," you bark, sounding a little too much like Tim.
You pull into the garage area of the station and park.
âGet the gear squared away, then come find me when youâre done.â You say as you round the front of the shop and stand next to the passenger side to make sure Officer Daniels understands.
âYes maâam,â he responds as he starts grabbing the war bags from the back of the shop.
You turn away from the shop and walk through the glass doors and enter the station. With heavy limbs and an anxious feeling, you look around for Tim.You walk into the bullpen and see him in Greyâs office. You take a breath and walk over to the glass door and step in. Tim is sitting in front of Grey in his Metro uniform with his sleeves pushed up.
âWhat happened? Is he ok?â you ask in a shaky, uneven tone.
âSit, Y/N,â Tim says calmly while gesturing to the chair next to him.
Despite wanting to remain standing, you slide into the seat next to Tim.
âWe got a call about someone trying to break into Jasperâs school. Theyâre on lockdown until we can identify the suspect.â Grey says slowly with concern written across his face.
Tim reaches over and holds your hand to provide reassurance.
âDo we know if heâs ok?â You ask, concerned.
âAs far as we know, heâs perfectly fine. I sent Metro there on standby.â Tim says in a soft tone.
âDo we have visual on the suspect?â You ask about switching from being a worried mother to a cop.
âYes, Metro got a shot of him.â Grey says, passing over a tablet.
Your eyes widen as you focus on the man in front of you. You know this man, if you can even call him a man. You never thought youâd see or hear from him again.
âYou look like youâve seen a ghost, Y/N,â Grey says, breaking the silence.
âI know who this is. Itâs Jasperâs biological father,â you exclaim.
âHas he ever tried contacting you before in the past?â Grey asks.
You shake your head. âNopenever. He said he didnât want anything to do with him once I told him I was pregnant.â You reply.
Just then Timâs phone rings.
âSuspect has broken into the building; do you want us to go in after him?â Wells, one of Timâs buddies from Metro, says on the other side.
Tim looks up to Grey for confirmation, and Grey nods.
âYes be advised that he is the father of one of the students, â Tim says to Wells.
You abruptly stand up and head to the door.
Tim immediately gets up after you. "Where are you going?" He asks worriedly.
"To go help," you say.
"No, you're too close to this. I don't want you to do something irrational you'll regret." Sargeant Grey says.
"Then what am I supposed to do? I won't be able to focus on anything else." You exclaim worriedly while messing with your engagement ring.
"Then I will have you sit in a shop out of sight during the operation. Bradford, you can give orders from there." Sergeant Grey compromises reluctantly. He wants to protect his children as much as possible.
Meanwhile...
A couple of the rookies sit in the bullpen doing paperwork with their T. Os are sitting at a nearby table.
"I found out Detective Y/L/N has a son today." Officer Daniels shares with the group.
"She does?" Another rookie named Brooks asks.
"Is it with Bradford?" Another asks.
"Can't be. He was married before Y/L/N." A nearby P2 says.
"Wait, he was?" Brooks exclaims.
"Yeah, to a UC. Got hooked on drugs, though going undercover." The P2 explains.
Just as the P2 finishes their sentence, Tim clears his throat. "Are you idiots done?" He barks at them.
The group looks back at him in shock. They are too stunned to respond to Tim. You stand next to him, just as shocked as they are that someone would talk about a fellow officer like that.
"You all should know better than to talk about another officer's personal business like that, let alone a senior officer." He yells at them.
He looks directly at the P2 standing next to where Officer Brooks is sitting. "You've been a cop longer than them; you should have corrected them. Now if I hear talk like this again, you'll be getting a blue page," Tim says finally.
"Come on, baby, let's go see about Jasper, Tim says to you while putting his arm around your shoulders and leading you to the door to the garage area.
10 minutes later, you and Tim pull up to Jasper's school right as you hear Metro call in a code four. A few ambulances pull up a few minutes later to make sure there aren't any injuries.
Tim steps out of the car and gestures for you to get out after him. He walks over to where Wells is, with you walking closely next to him. His fingers lightly brush against yours as you walk.
âHi Sir, we didnât have any casualties, and your son is perfectly safe. Only a few staff members were slightly injured. The suspect is in that shop over there if you would like to question him." Wells explains to both of you.
"Thank you," Tim says before turning to you.
"What do you want to do?" He asks.
"I don't want to talk to his father, but I would like to see Jasper," you say to Tim.
"I'll go talk to the principal and see if you guys can take him now,â Wells suggests.
"Thank you,â you say.
10 minutes later, Wells brings Jasper out with his things.
"Mom! Dad!" Jasper calls while running straight to you and Tim.
"Hi baby, did you get scared?" You ask while you squat down to hug him.
He lets go of you and moves over to hug Tim.
"I was at first, but I knew you guys would be here to help." He leans against Tim's leg while Tim pats his head.
"Are you ready to go home, buddy?" Tim says while bending down to his level.
"Yeah, I miss Kojo," Jasper says, and Tim and you both giggle.
You watch as Tim holds Jasper's hand as they walk over the shop. You're very proud of Tim for sticking with you and being such a good dad to Jasper when his wasn't around.
