PART TWO HERE
-------------------------
I was tired.
Tired and sore and hurt. And maybe a little grumpy.
The hunt hadn't gone nearly as well as I had hoped.
I got there far later than I wanted. People had gotten killed that would've probably lived if I had just been a little bit faster. Then, some kid followed me and got hurt before I could stop the damn thing. He was left in a rough condition when I left but staying wasn't an option. Not to mention that I had gotten myself hurt.
It wasn't bad. Mostly bruises and small cuts. The worst was a deeper cut on my arm.
I had gotten back to the manor, showered, and dressed myself enough to be comfortable while dealing with my arm. I had found a place on the small couch in the all-too-large bedroom, a first aid kit sitting next to me.
Admittedly, I had been avoiding Walt.
He tended to overreact when I was hurt. He'd fuss over me. Make me lay in bed for days over what was my equivalent of a rolled ankle or a paper cut.
I adored him. I truly did. But I needed to just take care of this without hearing him worry about it.
I knew I had been caught when the door to the room opened.
Walt walked in, quietly closing the door. He had probably been expecting me to be asleep.
He stopped when he saw me on the couch.
"Hello, my love," he said. "I was expecting to meet you by the door."
"Sorry," I mumbled, still looking at my wound. "I needed to take care of this."
I heard his footsteps on the floor. "You know that you don't have to handle that on your own, don't you?"
"I can deal with it," I shrugged. "I did for years before I got here."
He slowly walked over before kneeling on the ground next to the couch.
He didn't start fussing over any of my injuries this time.
That made me slowly look up from my cleaning and attempts at bandaging.
His eyes were trained on my arm. Just watching it. Most of the bleeding had stopped on its own. Just a few drops forming on the wound. But I caught him. I don't think he was aware that I had.
"Come here," I instructed as I put my things down. He furrowed his eyebrows. I motioned him closer.
When he got close enough for me to reach, I cupped the side of his face and guided him toward my arm. He hesitated for a moment. I never expected that. I figured he would simply take what he wanted.
"It's okay, darling," I mumbled to him. "I trust you."
My eyes closed as soon as his tongue touched my arm. My free hand reached out to run through the hair on the nape of his neck.
He was oddly gentle. I never considered that possibility. I had yet to watch him truly feed. I had pictured something fast and animalistic. I was basing that assumption off of what I had seen from other vamps.
But Walt... Walt was so careful. Even as his mouth fully latched onto my arm, it all felt so intimate. This was an act of trust for him. An act of love.
It was for me too.
My chest swelled with affection at the small shock of pain in my skin.
I allowed myself to imagine a try eternity with him. With moments as intimate as these. How perfect a life like that would be. A life with him. He was all I wanted. I just needed to take the step to accept the love that was already there.
Walt pulled away on his own. Slowly. Sucking turned into gentle licks, which then turned to a gentle kiss laid on the wound.
I guided him to turn toward me. I admired him. Studied him.
I leaned in and pressed my lips to his.
Most of us have tasted our blood in small amounts. We've all sucked on a paper cut or bitten our lip a little too hard. But this... This was overwhelming. Almost entrancing.
When Walt pulled away, a smile pulled at his lips. His fangs were on display. Proud display.
I smiled back at him, running my thumb along his cheekbone.
I took a deep breath before speaking, "Walt..."
"Yes, my love," he replied.
"I... I'm ready," I explained. His head tilted a bit. "I want to join you... forever. Properly."
He reached up and touched the hand that I had pressed to the side of his face.
"Are you certain that this is what you want," he asked.
I nodded. "I love you, Walt. More than I've loved anyone before. I... I want to do this."
His smile only grew before he lined forward and pressed his lips to mine again. I chuckled a bit at how sudden the movement was. The kiss was passionate and loving and all that I had wanted from a kiss before.
It was all about the next step.
I had considered everything that went into my decision.
My commitment to Walt, his commitment to me, just how long eternity could be, the risks of becoming one of the very things I hunted... all of it.
The one thing that I didn't consider was the benefits that my new abilities could offer when hunting.
All of the sudden, I was faster and stronger. I had built-in weapons now. I was more of a threat. Most monsters got spooked by a vamp hunter. Other vamps respected me. I respected them. Whether that was because of my turn or simply because of who my husband was, I didn't care.
I was better now. So much better.
But the hunting and the power and the respect... none of it truly mattered.
Because even without all of that, I still had Walt waiting at home for me. I had someone to pull me close, kiss me, hold me... someone that could love me and that I could love in return.
It was the definition of the perfect eternity.

PART THREE HERE
--------------------------
I felt guilty every time I walked into the manor after a hunt.
I would take all the steps I could apart from stripping on the doorstep. I would pull off my shoes, my socks, my jacket. I would place my weapons in a bucket of soap and water that Mr. Field would put out some time before I came home.
But still, with all those steps in place, I felt like I was dragging in pieces of the last hunt. Blood, dirt, sweat. It all sat on my skin like another layer of clothing.
The first time it happened, I felt sick to my stomach the entire night. Walt spent all night soothing me, promising that all he could think of was how thankful he was that I was okay.
He made a habit of meeting me at the door. He would kiss me with no concern for the mess on my clothes and skin. His hands would pull me as close to him as possible. He would barely pull away to mutter out how glad he was to see me.
Now, the guilt seemed to only last as long as I was in the house without Walt greeting me.
He left me to my own devices to shower and get dressed, but the rest of the night would be spent with him almost attached to my side.
He would guide me downstairs to ensure that I ate before going to sleep for a very long time. He'd rarely eat with me. He'd usually entertain himself by my side; asking about the hunt, leaving gentle kisses and touches on my skin to comfort me.
After that, he'd follow me upstairs.
I would lay under the covers. He would sit or lay next to me, refusing to leave until sleep had set in. I only knew that he left after that because I would often wake up on my own. He would be off on his own, taking care of something.
It was such a normal pattern now. After months of staying in the manor, everything felt so easy. Natural.
Walt had given me the freedom, the love that he had promised me all those nights ago.
But of course, true perfection is an unrealistic thing to strive for. Everything was going to have a flaw, a bump, a twist in the story.
It was the day I had gotten home from a hunt. Weapon cleaned, shower taken, food eaten. I had gotten home early enough that my rest had taken most of my day. It was dark by the time my eyes opened again.
It was a rare occasion where Walt was still next to me when I woke up. He was sitting on the bed, leaning his back on the headboard as he read a book. I didn't speak when I woke up. I simply shifted, forcing my head under his arm and onto his chest.
He chuckled at me. "I hope you slept well, my love."
"I always rest better with you next to me," I muttered. "How are you?"
"Better with you safe."
I scoffed a bit at him.
I moved a bit, so my chin was resting on his chest. He grinned down at me. I shifted up, pressing my lips to his. He hummed against my lips, kissing me back.
There was a muffled thump of his book hitting the mattress before his arms wrapped around me, guiding me to straddle his lap. I pulled away a few moments later, resting my forehead against his. His thumbs traced circles on my sides.
"I feel like I should thank you," I mumbled. Walt's eyebrows furrowed for a moment. "I've never felt so... at peace. I finally feel like I'm not running from place to place. I can barely explain how much that means to me. I just... I-"
Any thought I had was stopped when there was a slam downstairs. It was loud enough to echo through the house.
I pushed myself off the bed and opened one of the bedside drawers to grab the gun I had put there.
"When exactly did you put a gun there," Walt asked.
"When I first moved into your room," I shrugged.
"Why?"
"Because I thought sleeping with it under my pillow would worry you," I explained.
I walked out of the room before he could ask any more questions.
I didn't get a few of what was wrong until I got to the top of the stairs.
"Oh no..."
I walked down the staircase as soon as I saw who it was.
My old hunting partner had Mr. Field shoved into the wall, getting in his face and muttering something I couldn't hear.
"What are you doing here," I asked.
My hunting partner stepped back, looking at me in shock. "You're alive."
"Yeah," I nodded.
"I... I came to find you," he stammered out. "Take you home."
"It took you months to find me?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "You're the one who sent me here. It's not like this was some difficult task."
"I... I know," he replied. "Come on, let's go home and we can figure all of this out."
"No."
"What?"
I heard Walt's footsteps walking down the stairs to stand with me.
"I'm not going with you," I explained, shrugging.
"This is your fault," my old partner said, turning his attention to Walt. "How'd you pull that off? How long did it take to get them to repeat you blindly-"
I stepped between the pair of them, pointing the gun at him.
"(Y/n)-"
"I am choosing to stay here on my own," I snapped. "I am free here. I am more than simply useful. I am more than what you convinced me that I was. I am loved. Truly loved. Loved and wanted and desired... all the things you could never make me feel. I stopped following your orders."
His jaw clenched.
"And I'm in love," I muttered. They were almost the same words that had died on my tongue earlier that night. The weight of them still sat on my shoulders and made my heart speed up. "You don't get to take that from me."
"(Y/n), this isn't you-"
"Mr. Field," I said, ignoring his pleas to get me to come back. "Will you escort or... guest out? If he refuses to leave, then you can take whatever steps you see necessary."
"Of course," the older man nodded to me once. "Have a good evening."
"You too," I replied before turning around and walking up the stairs again.
I was almost embarrassed. I didn't want to address anything that had happened. I would've rather curled under the covers and let myself forget that any of this had happened.
The door to the room closed quietly as I put the gun back in the bedside drawer. I took a deep breath before looking at Walt. He stepped over to me with a grin on his face.
"I'm so sorry about what happened," I said. "I don't know why he came here. I assumed he just didn't care. I-"
"You have nothing to be sorry for," he stopped me before reaching up, so his hand cupped the side of my face. "I have no interest in what he did beyond how it hurt you."
"I... I'm okay," I promised.
"You're sure?"
I nodded, grinning a bit.
"Good," he kissed the cheek that his hand hadn't been touching. When he leaned back, he kept his face close to mine. "You're in love with me?"
I closed my eyes for a moment. "I was going to say something earlier, but then everything happened tonight, and I didn't get a chance to. I wanted you to hear it under different circumstances-"
Walt leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine. His arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer to him. My hands touched his shoulders as he did.
The kiss was slow, patient. It felt like he was attempting to commit the whole moment to memory as perfectly as he could. Every detail, feeling, moment... every piece of it. At least, that's what my mind was trying to do. I was simply hoping his mind was doing the same.
Walt pulled away slowly. He was smiling at me when I opened my eyes.
"I love you too," he said quietly.
I smiled back as one of my hands moved to rest on the back of his neck, gently playing with his hair.
I had never been so calm in a moment like this. There was no pressure or worry. It was all just love and affection and... perfect.
It was all that I needed to confirm that this was all that I truly needed.

"I know what you are."
I froze on the landing of the stairs, looking up at the top of the other staircase.
Walt stood on the top step; one eyebrow slightly raised. He tilted his head at me. Like he expected me to spill every secret to him just because he looked at me.
I knew in my heart what he was referring to. If someone gets a job on your estate with some ulterior motive, you will probably notice at some point.
I was a hunter.
I had been for a long time.
My hunting partner had sent me on this job, insisting that I was the best choice to go undercover and figure out the truth about what was happening in the manor.
I was meant to run under the radar, take care of the vamp, and run for the hills.
I had been there for weeks.
I was convinced I knew who it was. I believed it was Mr. Fields. He was constantly tense and seemed to be always overly cautious. I can admit when I'm wrong, but I didn't think I was at the time.
All I had to do after that was find the time to take care of him.
Which was proving ridiculously difficult.
That's the only reason that I had been there as long as I had.
I never meant for Walt to even notice me.
But once he had, I couldn't just avoid him. It would've given away that there was something about me to focus on.
We talked. A lot.
I had confessed more to him than I ever meant to. I had managed to tell him so much about myself without saying I was a hunter. I shouldn't have said as much as I did, but he seemed so interested and so... kind.
And now he was standing at the top of the stairs, staring down at me like he was daring me to do something. Run, fight, anything at all.
"What do you mean," I finally asked. I needed confirmation.
"A hunter."
There it was.
Nevertheless, I scoffed. "I don't know what you're talking about, Walt."
"You don't?"
"Not at all."
"I don't believe you," he started walking down the steps. "Hunters... they always get just a little too confident."
When he made it down most of the stairs, I took off, going to run down the rest of the staircase. The one night I didn't have a weapon. I had no intention of fighting. He was right behind me, dragging me away from the steps and shoving me to the wall, pinning my wrists with his hands. I flinched a bit, having narrowly avoided hitting the things on and by the wall.
Walt offered a sickeningly sweet smile.
I caught sight of the fangs in the dim light around us. I had been so convinced that it was Mr. Fields. I was such an idiot.
"You hide it well," Walt said quietly. He was so calm that it made me entirely uneasy. "Many hunters have shown up on my doorstep... you've been the most impressive."
I tried to kick him, or just move my leg some way. It didn't work.
"Shh, shh, shh," he chuckled a bit. I felt his claws dig into my skin slightly. "Stop moving."
I calmed down, realizing the risk right now.
"I could kill you now," he muttered, his lips finding my neck. "Hunters were always the most satisfying... but I have no interest in that now."
He pulled away again. I don't know what he was looking for as his eyes scanned every part of my face.
"You are... something very, very different... so clever and so brave and so... tempting..."
He leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine. I froze. His lips were slow, attempting to guide mine to move with them. I almost did. My eyes started to flutter close, longing starting to stop my logical thought.
He pulled away as he moved from holding my wrists to gently holding my hands. Vulnerable. Open for me to take action. Shove, fight, hit.
But I didn't. I couldn't.
He lifted one of my hands to his lips, pressing a kiss to my palm before turning it over to kiss the back. He held it there for a while. It was like he wanted to stop time and hold onto this moment.
"Leave him," Walt said softly. I blinked at him, suddenly snapping back into focus. "Stay here... with me."
I didn't answer. I wanted to quickly decline. To kill him and go home to my normal life. Achieve what my partner wanted of me.
Walt's eyes were closed as another kiss was pressed to my hand.
"He craves your usefulness," he continued. "Your obedience. I... I just want you. You've captured my mind and my heart. I long for you. Stay with me. Please."
"I...," still speechless. How long had it been since I was last speechless? Had that ever happened?
"Imagine it," Walt moved back, guiding me away from the wall.
He stepped behind me when we reached the middle of the landing. His arms wrapped around me, his lips brushing the shell of my ear.
"All of this... ours," he muttered. "You would have your own room for your research and your weapons. Every decision would be yours. At last, your choice. You would be loved, taken care of. Nothing earned, everything offered. And then, when the time is right, you will be joined to me forever. We'll dance through midnights and love for centuries. Unstoppable."
I felt like his words were circling my mind, burrowing into whatever part they could find until they had overwhelmed me. I had never heard something like that before. Not directed at me anyway.
"Let me provide everything that man could never," Walt gently kissed my neck, humming against the skin. "Let me adore you."
I took a deep breath. "My life... my work... all my own?"
"All I ask is your love and commitment."
It wasn't the only factor that I was considering, but I needed to know. Locking myself in this house would have driven me mad. Being able to work... to continue my purpose in this world... that's what I needed. I couldn't prove his love false, but I could do just that with his actions.
I turned around in his arms.
He grinned at me.
I leaned forward and pressed my lips to his. His hold on my sides tightened and he pulled me closer. I touched the sides of his face, grinning into the kiss. I had never had a moment feel more complete. I felt at peace. Free.
I leaned back, resting my forehead against his. "Yes... I'll stay."
His grin grew into a wide smile.
Thus was the beginning of my eternity. And what a brilliant eternity it would be.

Some Original Characters
A/N: This is the finale. I hope it meets some expectations, if not all. Sorry it’s taken so long to write.
18 and up, y’all.
There were no servants to be seen in the winding corridors that led toward Walt’s bedroom, and not one of his steps faltered, his arms like pliable steel around you. The long hem of your dress fell almost to the tops of his shined dress shoes, white lace drifting to and fro with the sway of his movement.
You glanced up at Walt’s face, your heart hammering a fast staccato in your chest. He caught your look and winked, a slow unfurling grin revealing the blunt points of freshly returned ready canines.

The morning of your wedding day dawned misty and cool, the sky an otherworldly grey drifted over by pearly clouds. When you opened your eyes, you were greeted by the sight of a dress bag hanging from the top of your bed. You threw back the covers and crawled over the bed to get to it, pulling it carefully down and laying it across your lap.

A bit of 18 and up, y’all.
“How do I keep winding up in your bed?”
You felt the mattress shift beneath you and then Walt’s smile pressing into the back of your shoulder, only one of your flimsy nighties in between your skin and his. One of his legs was tucked between yours and his hips were flush against you.

18 and up, y’all.
Another week later, you opened your door to find Lucy on the other side of it, wrapped in a robe. Viktoria skulked glowering behind her. You folded your arms over your chest, a conversation with Walt coming back to you about a pre-wedding tradition.
“Spa day?” you asked, warily eyeing Viktoria.

A/N: I have taken artistic liberties with this fanfic. For example, I have given Walt some different mind abilities and have removed the canon vamp claws because I find them distasteful and overkill, pardon the pun.
18 and up, y’all.
You spent the next couple of days receiving scandalised glances from the maids and even Mr. Field due to the blossomed bruise on your neck, the identical holes in the centre now gone. Mrs. Swift eyed you with obvious concern whenever she saw you, and even cornered you on your way out of your room one morning. You met her gaze with caution, stretching your neck out slightly.
“Miss Alexander, you must be careful” she insisted in hushed tones. “He may act human, but he is not. If you push him too far, he might very well kill you, whether he means to or not.”

A/N: I cannot help it, I love the teeth. I love this gif.
You woke to the dark, in an unfamiliar bed, soft silk rustling beneath you as you shifted, struggling to open your eyes. When you finally managed, you realised you were not in your own room, but in Walt’s. He was sprawled on his back next to you, breathing evenly, his chest moving quietly. Memory of the earlier evening came rushing back and you touched the sore patch of skin on your neck, hissing softly as you felt two perfect tiny holes, almost healed over already.

A bit of 18 and up, y’all.
You had been living at the manor for about two weeks when Mr. Field arrived outside your room to inform you that Walt would be out for business much of the day, so why didn’t you take advantage to explore his home and grounds? His home was yours now also, after all, so nothing was off limits, not even his private library cum study. You smiled upon hearing that; Viktoria and Lucy were not permitted in that room, but it seemed you were. Maybe you really were his favourite.

A bit of 18 and up, y’all.
Early the following morning, you rounded a corner humming to yourself, only to pull up short and duck back out of sight, peeking around the wall’s edge as Walt and your father were deep in what appeared to be a sombre conversation.
Or, at least, your father seemed serious, but Walt, facing your way down the corridor, was trying to suppress a smile. His eyes flicked toward you and you knew you were caught, but to your pleased surprise, he didn’t mention your presence to your dad.

You leaned against the wide bank of windows and watched the sun fall, the beautiful dress from Walt still draped over the bed covers, seemingly calling your name. A fine mist hovered in the grounds as a light rain started to drop, coating the manor in a sheen of dampness.

You were with your friends when the time came, unbidden, to say goodbye. You had known it was on its way, this day in particular, but it still managed to creep up on you, as did the older man dressed in old fashioned butler clothing. The first notions you had of his presence were the hairs standing up on your arms and nape of your neck, and the sudden silence of your friends, where before there had been nothing but lively chatter.
