Reticent, socially-awkward Katie "Pidge" Holt is entering her junior year in high school, and she would much rather spend her time with her robots and technology than make any new friends or go on any dates. However, all of that changes when her private love letters, which she's safely kept hidden away ever since she was a little girl, somehow make their way to their intended subjects, and suddenly she's having to confront her past secret crushes that are not so secret anymore.

To her surprise, goofy and flirtatious Lance, one of the recipients of her clandestine love notes, approaches her with a deal: enter in a fake relationship with him to put the embarrassing letters to rest, while she helps him make his ex-girlfriend jealous in order to win her back. What starts off as an amusing charade slowly begins to blur the lines between fantasy and reality, and soon Pidge finds herself questioning if she'll be ready to let go of what she has with Lance once their little act is over, or if she'll have the courage to confess her true feelings and risk getting her heart broken.

ID: A one page comic of Damian and Anya in middle school during art class. Their assignment is to draw the person in front of them, which happens to be each other. In the first panel, he is squinting at her while she's merrily drawing away. In the following two panels, we see their artworks: Damian's drawing of Anya is a little overworked and very sparkly, and her drawing of him is a sketch of him valiantly holding a sword, with his cape flowing behind him and the word "cool" written in all caps next to his figure. Surrounding the art is discussion from the two. Anya asks about the drawing of her, "Huh. Why am I sparkly?" . Damian responds, "It's what you look like, isn't it?" and Anya questions, "Is it?" . Damian's reaction to the drawing of him is "Oh." Anya says, "You're not that cool, but I gave you a super cool sword." Damian hesitantly thanks her, and she gladly accepts it. In the very last panel, Anya's pulling on her hair confusedly, wondering "Is it actually sparkly?" while he glances with similar uncertainty at her and thinks, "Is something wrong with my eyes? Is there no sparkle?" . Becky, Emile and Ewen can be seen looking exasperated behind them. End ID
