Nearing Sunset.

Seven panels of a Clangen comic. The scene features Greyswoop and Eveningnose watching Snowkit play and talking; they are situated on a balcony-like structure to the warriors' den, a nest in the branches of the pines. In the first panel, Greyswoop says, "You sure they're safe up here?" Eveningnose replies, "You were, at her age." In the second panel, Greyswoop says, "And look how I turned out." Eveningnose laughs.

In the third panel, Eveningnose looks off to the side. In the fourth panel, Eveningnose looks down over the camp, where he sees Goldenpaw carrying some herbs. In the fifth panel, Eveningnose says, "I'm worried about the young ones."

The fifth panel cuts to an image of Sootsight, sitting among several graves and looking sad. Eveningnose says, "They've suffered so much already. Soot, especially." The sixth panel cuts back to Eveningnose, who says, "An' Holly... I don't know what to think."

You're too young to be worrying like this." In the second and third panels, Eveningnose gives Greyswoop a look, then says, "I'm plenty old enough, darlin'."

In the fourth panel, Snowkit stands with a feather in their mouth. They say, "Eeneenose!! Look whad I foun!" In the fifth panel, Eveningnose says, "Very pretty, bug!" Snowkit responds, "Is for you!"

In the last panel, Eveningnose says, "That's mighty generous of you, kitten. Tell you what, though, I think Goldenpaw needs it more'n me." Snowkit bounds away, saying, "Okay!! Golenpaw!! Look!" At the bottom of the page, two narrator text bubbles say, "Eveningnose and Snowkit surprise Goldenpaw with something nice." and "Eveningnose thinks Snowkit is very helpful."

I ended up busier than I expected and have been occupied with family for the holiday, but I'm itching to get the next update out soon!

I also downloaded a new art program to play around with the text boxes a little bit, so that'll be exciting to figure out 👀

Moon 3 - Part 3

A collage-style comic. A panel shows Gutterrat, a tortoiseshell cat with large ears, walking towards Longpaw, a fluffy grey cat, who is looking away from her.

Text reads:
Moon 3 - The forgotten house - Dusk

Outside, the day was cooling; sliding towards evening, in the long, bruised way of late springtime. Gutterrat thought, absently, that the clans had other names, to call the seasons– another thing that she should get to. Her eyes, misted by thought, did not catch the gold and purple colours of the clouds, in full display.

Gutterrat says: “Longpaw.”

Longpaw says: “Mm.”

Text reads:
“Hey–” One day the words would come to Gutterrat, easier. She'd know what to say, instead of always guessing. “You did the right thing, you know. Coming to me. Even if Babyleg wasn’t… breaking the rules, or anything. It’s– I’m glad you told me.”

Longpaw shrugged. After a moment, Gutterrat paced closer, so their sides were touching, in the cooling dark.

“I hope– if something’s wrong- something other, I mean, than Babyleg…”

The silence stretches out. Thins. Breaks.

Two closeups show Longpaw and Gutterrat's faces.
Longpaw says: "Do you remember what you said. About bad luck?”
Gutterrat says: “Oh! Yes– of course.” Arrows pointing to her say "Doesn't. Has been making shit up as she goes."

Longpaw says: “Is it real? Like with the names. You can get bad luck… out of the way? It makes things okay, later?”

Gutterrat paused. There was a lump, all of a sudden, in her throat. Hard to talk around it– she didn’t want to talk, around it. “Sure– yeah, of course it’s true. Of course it is.”

Longpaw says: “Then. What happened…”

Bursting through the panel borders is a large, full-colour drawing of Gutterrat clinging to a rafter, her fur bristling. One of her legs is slipping from the rafter, and her tail is dangling. She's carrying Longpaw- shown here as a kitten- by the scruff of her neck. Gutterrat's face is splashed in blood.

Partially covered by this drawing, Longpaw says: "–good luck from now on? Since…”

Two panels of Gutterrat's face follow- one is partially covered by the dangling tail from the previous panel. Her eyes are blank, and her face is splashed with blood. She says "I..."

In the following panel, her eyes are more focused. She smiles. "Yes. Yeah! Longpaw. Is that what you’re worried about? Things are– we had our share. The bad stuff’s all behind us, now. I promise. ”

Text reads: “Okay. I think…” Longpaw’s voice was soft, in the soft night. “I’m glad it was you, Gutterrat. And we’re here, now. I’m glad.”

A final panel, all in greyscale, shows Gutterrat- her eyes cut off by the top of the panel- with a blank expression. Longpaw is nuzzled up under her chin, smiling.

Text reads: "It should feel warm. It should feel like something, as Longpaw snuggles up against her side, sighing happily. Anything at all, except a weight. "
