‘New Experiences’

Artemis rarely felt such emotions, at least not as long as she’s known. She knew she never felt as ‘intimate’ as the rest of her family…seemed like even the rest of the world didn’t go through what she does. Yet, here it was, the first time in a while she felt anything for anyone. And, of all people, it had to be her.

She had never been one to discriminate with love, but her? Fuck, why her? Artemis’s thoughts were interrupted.

‘Hey, I know dating isn’t really your thing…you don’t have to answer now. I’ll keep in touch, yeah?’ They began to walk away.

Wait, that’s not what Artemis wanted. She clasped their wrist as lightly as she could—she still wasn’t used to her strength around non-gods—‘Wait, please. I-I do want to date you, I just…you know what you’re getting into, right? I might not be able to-‘

‘I know. I can wait.’

‘It might be months, years even. Are you sure?’

Her soft hands cradled Artemis’s face. ‘If I wasn’t sure, I wouldn’t be asking. It’s not exactly gonna be easy for either of us.’

Artemis felt her stomach flutter a bit. No wonder Mom and Dad were so attached to each other. She would be too if she felt this way all the time. Her eyes welled up a little; she realized that the last time something like this happened her orientation was the exact reason it fell apart. For the first time ever, someone was willing to wait for her heart to catch up, that gave her a head start. ‘Okay, thank you.’

‘Thank me? You’re my girlfriend now, thank you!’ The new title felt even sweeter coming from her mouth. She really was lucky to have a partner like them…

‘I can’t do this anymore, I’m so sorry…’ Marella looked like she was about to break down into tiny little pieces.

‘What? What is it? What’s wrong?’ Artemis was both trying to figure out why they were ending and why they seemed so torn about it.

‘…I need to tell you something. First, though, I want you to know that everything I’ve said to you, everything I feel for you, it’s all genuine, alright?’

‘What does this have to do with—‘ the realization hit her. That’s why she felt something was off from the start. Anyone who reads anything knows enemies to lovers rarely works without strings attached; for characters like the two of them, at least. ‘Oh…I…kinda figured, just a little.’

‘You knew?!’

‘I had a hunch, but it never felt fake from you, not once. My intuition is at least strong enough to notice when I’m being played, though.’ Her heart hardened just a bit from hearing the words come out of her own mouth. She’d been played, for months. How pathetic.

I’d like to rant about something I’ve noticed over 7+ years in fandoms which is 100% probably just me I just wanna know if anyone relates.

Does anyone else feel uncomfortable with making oc/canon relationships in a ‘I get other people doing it but I’d feel weird about doing it myself’ way instead of a ‘that’s a fictional character/canon characters can’t have fan-made love interests’ way? I have no idea how to describe this accurately, might have something to do with being on the aroace spectrum. SALS (ship and let ship), obviously, I just personally feel weird about creating ocs in relationships with canon characters as a result of an attachment to a character??? Fr I’ll make fanart of fanships but not a fanship of my own.

Like does that make sense???

That might be why—across all my ocs—there are, like, 2 couples of which one is too old for me to get rid of/has a lot of sentimental value and the other kinda just…exists as a plot line.
