Fun trivia: In the character page for Nine in the Volume Rising, we can see in Horikoshi sketches that the palms of his hands were supposed to have the little holes that allow an AFO user to physically steal quirks.
Same holes All For One and Shigaraki have:
Yet, in the movie itself the holes are totally absent from Nine's hands despite his gloves are clearly designed with that specific function in mind.
I guess the production just totally missed that detail in the translation from Hori sketches?
Is more like back in the day the only way to watch Naruto was on TV, but the cable networks in my country only had the first parts of Naruto and follow the anime on pirate sites wasn't really an option with middle 2000s internet lol.
I should watch it some day though cause I have good memories of early Naruto.
...
Cider totally knows Izumi/Izuku looks at him and goes crazy, so he actually play with that and maybe accidentally He drops water on shirt as an excuse to take it off in front of our fav boy/girl.
Mizunami is a bit diabolical sometimes.
...
You know? I never made the comparison between Cider and Compress but it makes a lot of sense.
Is funny how Cider intro is him saying they planned the steal operations for months to get the most cash without deal with heroes, but is notorious how neither him or his gang harm any civilians in the process. And not even after escape prison Cider attemps to harms anyone unlike almost all the other jailbreakers.
You also have Gentle as the well made version of Compress, because also a thief who tries to create spectacle but not harm civilians in the process.
Is ironic how lov fans always put Compress as the "sane" from the group, but that dude showed a lot of times to have sadistic tendencies and unlike his friends he has zero reasons to act that way.
Also tf was that scene of he putting Bakugou and Tokoyami on his mouth?
Tbh the whole idea of "my grandpa was robin hood" Horikoshi forced into Compress feels like a concept for a totally different character reporpused into the backstory of the only lov member without any background.
...
Also the Humiras sure have an app like Tinder for selling their members, probably is on the playstore.
The whole cinderIzu is great and I welcome with open arms. For my au, I have an idea for them meet.
Again, BK is a footnote in her life and Izumi is not dedicating all her time and energy in thinking of him. (She hears how his quirk remains the same, no quirk awakening bs, how bk's attitude got worse and how Aizawa is sure BK is the future)
Izumi hears about the mpa here and there and ...is not impressed. She needs money, her group can't work by luck...they need ration and more, and Izumi is not happy ReDestro has "schools" for kids to learn their quirks...its just a camp where the kid learns how to use their quirk AND NOTHING ELSE (Geten my be alliterate here)
Stealing from Redestro is not something she can pull off on her own. She needs help to do this heist.
(the quirk schools aren't illegal, per se, but it rubs Izumi in the wrong way. She is right)
Enters Cinder. He shows up with his helmet, all gear up and...well, he too needs money and Mr. Youtsubashi is loaded and if he wants to make quirk schools, fine...let's rob the fucker.
Izumi gawks as Cinder removes his helmet. He is handsome and cute...she wasn't expecting this.
Lol
(I love a good mask reveal!)
I also live for the moments when a character takes of their mask and reveals to be hot, and Cider isn't the exception. I mean can you blame Midoriya for what him?
Note: Izu probably loves in particular the little scar Cider got in his eyebrown, he/her found that detail to be especially sexy.
...
Is funny you mention the whole plot of Cider helping Izu to steal stuff from Re-Destro company, as I also have this idea of him making an operation to steal from a werehouse full of valuable tech and support items that Detnerant (I think that's the company name) sells into the black market.
They would have success stealing a lot of merch they later sell to get money, but also Cider found a particularly expensive prototype of a high tech glider he decides to keep for himself and use to compliment his surfing style. As Mizunami is really into surfing in my AU, like he seems to be in canon.
Oh I forgot to mention before but the vigilante name Cider/Mizunami will use for my AU will be "Splashdown". Be free to use it if you like the name.
And since you mentioned Geten here, do you think he will have some role in the story? As I mentioned before I love the idea of Cider being a Himura, but also he probably was rejected by his clan because his quirk is water instead of ice and the Himuras seems to be the kind of elitist jerks to would dishonor a child for born with a "imperfect" quirk.
Which would create a lot of tension between Cider and Geten, especially is they reconogice each other. Geten hating Cider for being "a failed Himura" and Cider will hate Geten because he's just a "an attack dog" for Re-Destro.
It makes him pathetic in my opinion.
Kind of ironic how most of his major victories are always against enemies that were already defeated by heroes and he didn't have to do anything. Shigaraki fans literally celebrate him being a looser who steals the credit from other persons.
That even extend to the defeat of AFO.
I mean look at the panel Shigaraki fans pretend is a triumphant victory.
Dude literally died some chapter before, was saved offscreen by his grandma and his only contribution to the defeat of AFO was punch him along ten more people as part of a plan he didn't help to create.
That's the real "I got invited by a friend"
Hey I have a question. I never saw the movie nor I want to see it +Nine sounds cool as fuck but....bk is in the movie) my question here is......why shig killed Nine?
When that scene was reblogged on Twitter I had the impression it was smth like "nine was using his name and shig wasn't pleased" ...can't be that bc this makes sense. Too much sense.
So did shig just kill the guy bc yes?
Maybe afo or the Dr evil asked shig to do so... which is plausible but damn...what waste. And it cements once again shig as a npc.
I'll try to explain this the best I can, because tbh nothing about this situation makes sense to me even today. And some context of the movie as well.
The movie starts with a scene of the LOV transporting Nine while he was still on a medical capsule inside a truck. There's a reference to this situation in the manga when the doctor request Shigaraki to deliver "something" for him.
But here's a thing: neither the movie or the prequel chapter Horikoshi made explain where Nine was being delivered or what the doctor intended to do with him in case he arrived to destiny. It feel that missing context is important.
In any case, the heroes attack the truck trying to arrest the league. The truck is destroyed in the battle and this allows Nine to escape and go back with his team.
Then we got a couple of scenes were Shigaraki seem to be tracking Nine activities, also using Hawks to do the research job for them (it's worth mentioning the events of the movie are supposed to happen at some point after MVA).
And after all this... nothing really, the movie drops this subplot and Shigaraki only appears again in the end when he comes out of literally nowhere to kill Nine. Allow me to ask how they even know his exact location? The black goo teleportation quirk doesn't even work like that btw.
Just like you my first assumption was Garaki ordered him to do so, maybe because after the spectacle Nine did in the island the doctor decided to eliminate him for security reasons. But we never got any indication of this being the case, in fact there's a scene when Garaki explicitly tells Shigaraki to not touch "it" (Nine).
Things became more confusing because in MVA when Shigaraki gives Garaki one of his edgy speeches about destroying everything he hates, there's a small cameo of Nine among the things crusty boy hates.
On a side note: this is technically Nine's first ever appearance, even before the movie itself was released. A sort of foreshadow for what it coming.
But going back to the point: why Shigaraki hates Nine so much in the first place? We never got a clear reason for any of this, isn't like they ever interacted, the only time before the movie they have some kind of contact was the prequel chapter focused on Nine, and that was only Shigaraki looking at Nine through a window.
Also the final scene when crusty boy kills Nine for some reason makes it sounds the situation is very personal? Like if Shigaraki hold some grudge against Nine for some reason.
And the line "I agree, there only can be one king" doesn't make any sense because isn't like Shigaraki knew about Nine's ideology and his desire of rule the world. The writers makes it seem to be like they both interacted and had a long term rivalry for some reason, but that never happened.
Oh and it's extra hilarious how Shigaraki killing Nine for no reason directly contradicts this other little scene:
If crusty a**hole always intended to be "a hero for villains" (as the story seem to pretend) what about Nine then? Idk but for me killing a defendless man while he was crawling on the ground doesn't seem too heroic.
Let's not forget Nine was a real hero for villains without presume about it. He saved the life of Chimera, Slice and Mummy in a way Shigaraki wish to be able to do with the lov.
Honestly is funny to think all this one directional hate Shigaraki feels for Nine could be just crusty boy being jaleous, which won't be surprise considering Nine is superior to him in everyway possible.
But well, thinking about this on a perspective outside the story itself an explanation of why Nine was killed maybe is because Horikoshi just needed a reason to get rid of him, as his presence might be problematic for the course of the main story. I mean it would be a bit suspicious to have another AFO possible vessel who happens to be better than Shigaraki, and Nine is the only movie main villain to be permanently killed on screen, while all the others like Wolfram and Flect survived.
Anyway, all this festival of bs let a bitter taste in my mouth.
Needless to say, such a good villain like Nine surely deserved way better than he got.
Blame Horikoshi for not keeping Cider as a more recurring character! Is hard to get a big fandom when you only appear twice in the whole manga... despite TikTok seems to love Cider.
...
Can you describe how exactly Izumi scars look? Cause right now I imagine her looking like Maki from JJK in terms of scar tissue (and in the sense the scars are an aesthetic).
Of course Mizunami would love every single scar in Izumi, and probably think that makes her more perfect and autentic than any other woman.
I imagine a scene when she opens about her insecurities about her body to Mizunami, and she probably wears a lot of layers of clothes first to cover as much scar tissue as possible.
Instead of giving a verbal response, Mizunami starts taking off his own clothes (and Izu gets a bit shocked an embarrased for obvious reasons) and when he finally takes off his shirt Izu understands what he wanted to show.
Mizu's torso is also covered by years of all kind of scars product of being the member of a gang who got in constant fight with other villains, heroes or the police. He got a lot of cut scars, burns and even bullet scars.
But that doesn't matter to him and he tells Izumi with a lot of confidence that scars are cool and the most real proof of how badass they can be.
That would be the moment in which Mizunami gets into Izumi's heart, and she probably hugs him totally red and dizzy (because after all Cider is shirtless and she probably is getting her face pressed into his pecs). A cute moment of intimancy.
Can't stop thinking about a CiderDeku focused AU in which our favorite seltzer boy and Midoriya work as part time vigilantes together.
And since Izuku has a fire bending quirk in this AU, the contrast of his quirk and Cider's (who is named Mizunami Himura in this story) make people start calling them "Steam-Bow couple" as their unofficial vigilantes name.
Still thinking about the details of how they started their crusade together as vigilantes, but I like that idea I mention in other post about Mizunami saving Izuku from Bakugou when both of them still were in Aldera and Midoriya was around 13. Mizunami still was the leader of the Cider House gang (and maybe two years older than Midoriya) but later he left the group because he felt his members started to be way too problematic and getting in worse situations with civilians and heroes, something he didn't like because while Mizunami commited crimes like robbery he never tried to harm innocent people during his operations.
Besides he started feeling for Izuku after protect him from Bakugou, and since Izu wanted to stay with him after the incident they both start to get along and quickly became good friends, Mizu also helping Izu no being so shy and insecure about himself due the years of bullying.
He start helping Izuku to train his quirk and body during his free time, which served a lot for Midoriya to get in good shape and develop a fight style for the years to come as he still intented to apply to at least a low-middle tier hero school (and this will became important later).
I like to think the incident with the Sludge monster from chapter 1 was what caused a twist on their relationship, as unlike what happens in canon here when both of them are attacked by the Slime that escaped from A.M, Izuku and Mizunami give the monster a big surprise because they were able to fight back.
Slime turned to be quite vulnerable to water and fire combined, which allowed Izu and Mizu to restrain him in a bottle of soda and left him for the heroes finish the job later, as they run totally excited by the experience.
After escape and being safe, Izuku suddenly jump to the arms of Mizunami and they started kissing out of the excitement of the moment. When they calm down both smiled and since that moment they became officially boyfriends, and decide they would have more moments like this in the future so they will start fight criminals together.
Also the incident also give Izuku the final confidence boost he always needed and when Bakugou provoked him after school trying to make fun of Mizunami who was there for walk along Izuku to his home, Midoriya decided he had enough when Katsuki insulted his boyfriend.
So what happened next is that Izuku deep breath and expelled a big green fire ball from his mouth, which resulted in Bakugou getting a lot of first degree burns and loosing his eyebrows (something for what he would be mocked a lot later).
Mizunami used his water quirk to extinguish the fire over Bakugo's clothes who is totally terrified, then Mizu and Izuku laugh at him take a picture with their funs for future reference and run away together.
Hi @nyc3
CinderIzu is great and Cinder as a character was ignored, slept on ...bc villain stans are predictable into hot villains like dabi and shig(yes, shig is hot even in his possum way) and ...damn this fandom waste a good opportunity for a ship.
For a moment, thought you were talking about my idea.
I do like the idea Izumi being considered so beautiful even with her scars (she is prettier bc of her scars bc this woman survived) so in a country where the woman's value depends on her beauty...Izumi carrying her scars and being hot is amazing. Cinder would be into!
Cinder would also be into kill bk!
Her entire story, as she describes what BK did, seems like SA. See? The difference of boy and girl here is how people perceive the violence.
But I'm into this ship.
I do like sgdk a lot.
I do like dabideku too
But CinderIzu??? I'm open and so far like the ideas.
I didn't think Katsuma sound a bit similar to Katsuki, at least in romaji because their kanji names are nothing alike. But isn't a problem for me because Katsuma is a pretty name, and in my story she has a personal reason to keep that name even after transition.
And yes, she has her canon cell activation quirk which can be used for heal, BUT Katsuma in this story also had a quirk awakening that developed a "cell degradation" side which allows her to use her quirk for the opposite effect, so instead of heal cells she can also kill them or create necrosis.
...
I do like your idea of Muscular not telling anyone that he lose to Izumi, I guess he also had a bit of fragile ego there but it's funny how even in canon Goto new obssesion with Midoriya after being defeated seems less like "I want my revenge by killing you" and more like "I never had so much fun in my life, please Midoriya let's fight forever!"
I honestly wish Horikoshi played a bit more with Muscular than just get rid of him inmediately after bring him back. His dynamic with Midoriya is strangely fun and flow very well, and it's fun to think Goto actually adores Izuku/Izumi as the person he can always give him and exciting fight, rather than just want to kill him/her like Shigaraki wants.
I hope your idea of this little society between Izumi and Chisaki leads to them facing Re-Destro together, as I always needed that sweet ideological battle of him and Overhaul.
I'm not even the biggest fan of Dabi in terms of looks, but always found very weird how the anime constantly makes him look way more defined and with bigger muscles than he has in the manga.
Isn't a bit contradictory for his character to look super ripped? Horikoshi clearly drawn Dabi in that specific way because the story makes emphasis on his body being more frail due having a weak constitution, also contrasting him to the rest of mens in the family who got the big and strong constitution of Enji, Natsuo especially. The anime just lose all the meaning behind that.
And this is more of a personal preference but I find Dabi's body in the manga to look much more attractive and less generic than in the anime. Skinny guys can look attractive as well.
Hi @nyc3
Thanks for the ask bc it's so fitting as I was thinking about how the fandom sees dabi and mr. Possum.
Let me start with this. Have you seen how in the Tumblr the tags of dabi x reader and shig x reader there a HUGE contrast in quality? Shig is depicted as a creepy and weirdo incel while Dabi IS "I'LL STEAL YOUR WIFE😏"
now on a controversial take. I do like the idea of dabi losing his scars. Why? Would increase his quality of life...I find odd how everyone in LoV accepts Dr. Evil's word and never try to take a second opinion. Also, without the scars Dabi would look way more like Endy making his claim be more powerful.
(not a fan of erasing Shig's scars nor the "crusty" jokes. Shig is handsome with his scars)
Now onto your ask: I think Bones just like to make characters hot in a conventional way, JJK men got to be hotter than the manga. But I do notice how bones lacks in translate the manga to anime. Some of the scenes of the manga were done so dirty.
Dabi became hotter aka buffer bc of this. Btw, many dabi x reader like to make the reader have a healing quirk (it should be a trope by now) just so it can heal dabi...which no one account that dabi IS self destructive, a healing quirk is nice but he would do again...unless he changes his mindset (I'm trying to explore this in my fic called besties)
Ask yourself: did shig NEEDED to be buffaraki? Was afo the quirk really need you to be buff?
(was necessary for Izu to gain muscles? Maybe, maybe not)
So to answer: Dabi is attractive in any shape. His writing trumps over shig any day even if shig IS more attractive than Dabi.
A friend of my said I was overthinking the scene, but please the whole thing is very sus for a character like Kai and considering Chrono's blind devotion... well that's enough for raise a few eyebrowns.
This is such a fun scene when you think about the context, cause is supposed to be from Chrono's perspective.
Chrono really think he can fool us and make us think Chisaki, a person with severe misophonia, would voluntarily enter in a cage fight shirtless AND without gloves?
Especially considering we have another the flashback of the same or a similar situation from Rappa's perspective and we clearly see Chisaki doesn't take off his clothes for "fight".
Is Chrono so thirsty for Kai that he unconsciously imagines him shirtless?
Well I can't blame you at all Hari... I do the same thing all the time.
There's no other quirks which explicit purpose is heal like R.G but I guess we can count quirks with a secondary use for heal.
Eri and Chisaki are the most obvious examples of having perfect quirks for healing if used in the proper way, despite Rewind and Overhaul can be used for much more.
In the 2nd movie we have Katsuma and his dad, they both have a Cell Activation quirk which is often mistaken as a healing quirk (because Nine wants it to fix his contition) but as Katsuma sister says they weren't sure if his quirk could be used for heal, and the dad of the kids isn't even a doctor.
That being said Cell Activation can indeed be used for heal wounds and such, but its primary effect is stabilize cells and even can unleash the potential inside them which serves as a big power boost, reason why Nine wanted it so much.
Now based on what we seen in the series about medicine, is safe to assume the reason of why even people with healing quirks aren't prominent doctors is because technology makes such quirks less useful.
I mean think about this for a moment, even if we don't count Garaki's crazy ass tech to bring people back from death and crete bioweapons on AM level, the general medical tech in MHA is ridiculously good. They can heal almost everything in short time and get people back in action in less than a month as we seen after the first war.
Recovery Girl probably became a well know doctor and was relevant back in the day because when she was young medical tech wasn't good enough, but in the current time of the series it evolved enough to the point a person like Katsuma dad despite having an excellent quirk for healing didn't bother on persue a medical career.
I see your rank about water based quirks, and it's quite interesting because I've commented the same thing on reddit before and people seem to agree on the fact water quirks have little representation of MHA.
Not only because they are portrayed as way weaker that any other elemental quirk, but usually pure water quirks (not ice ones) only belong to minor and diposable character.
You have:
-Manual "the normal hero" which is sort of a joke character which most prominent moment was keep Aizawa and Monoma's eyes hydratated.
-The firefighter hero from the first episode which I don't think appears ever again and he's only there to extinsguish fire.
-Kota parents are dead imao, and Kota himself is just a child so his quirk doesn't really come into play.
-There was an unnamed villain in the USJ attack who controls water but he's fooder.
While other elemental quirks have a lot of characters which are depicted as really overpower by MHA standards. For example:
-Fire has Endeavor, Dabi and Bakugou to an extent. Self explanatory in this case.
-Air has Inasa, who was probably the most powerful student of his generation before any quirk awakening bs from Class A. Inasa even was stopping Sad Man Parade by himself at one point.
-Earth has Cementoss who was described as op in urban enviorenments, Shindo who is way more powerful than people give him credit for, and if we count metal here Wolfram from the first movie was a really powerful fighter.
So yeah, the difference between water with the rest of the elements is kinda big. Even ice users aren't treated as particulary powerful in the story.
Geten needed to train his whole life without go to school and have a quirk awakening but had problems with a Dabi who was holding back, and he lose against Cementoss for some reason despite there wasn't concrete during their battle.
Shoto is a special case, because notice how the story always treats his fire side as the real powerhouse and not his ice. I mean even Endeavor thinks on the ice quirk as just a way to baypass the overheat rather than a power Shoto can make shine on it's own, isn't that ironic? The ice in Shoto is just a patch for the weakness of his strong side, not this perfect balance between elements.
Perhaps the only truly badass water quirk user we have (despite he's treated as fooder as well) is the nameless leader of the Cider House gang.
Seriously I love this guy for some reason. His design and quirk are awesome, and he's such a fun minor villain.
Wish we had more content of him and his real name, despite calling him Cider is funny.
Hi @nyc3
So before I answer your ask...let me ask you this: where is the others' healing quirks? Is R.G the only one who has this quirk? Bc if so that raises some questions...so are all the doctors quirkless? I´m especualting here as Hori has no desire to do worldbuilding but if we take this as true...then Izu could have been a doctor.
"Quirkless doctors face discrimination" its something I can see someone saying IF the quirkless are the doctors and this is so supremely dumb. I don't think quirkless discrimination IS a thing in the text, what we have is IZU BEING ABUSED.
Now as for the question...yeah, people in MHA prefer quirks that are stronger, fire IS strong...but then again, on the same wavelength, they don´t care to know more about quirks (Izu is seen as the odd ball for analyzing quirks when this should be the obvious, everyone should have a quirk analyst)
Endy wanted a child from a woman whose quirk is ice. Still, he looks down on water type quirks...while yes, he did that to make sure his kid has a cool off system in him for the fire (HIS PLAN IS SO DUMB HOLY SHIT). I ask, ignoring the implications, if he wants to do a quirk marriage and thinks FIRE is the best, why not marry someone who already has a quirk?
Water is seen as weak and I don´t get why. Maybe Hori has some bias on the power scale.
Wind is something Inasa has but... let's be real, Inasa is an ass in canon. He is an Endy´s fanboy and hates Shoto bc Endy didn´t smile at Inasa...entitled fan much? (I HATE HOW PEOPLE MAKE IZU BE THE CREEPY FAN WHEN WE DO HAVE CANON CREEPY FANS)
Hori doesn't seem to care to make powers interesting...nor consistent.
Look at BK, how many quirk awakenings this asshole had?
To make this short, I believe is not about the power, is how you use...and no one in mha wants to think outside the box.
(on that note, why Toga is the only one who has a transformative quirk?)
On the seltzer bunny 🐰 fic I finally have an outline for the first chapter. And yes, Cinder does make an appearance. Ok my idea is basically Izumi makes Aldera her first target.
It doesn't make a big target if you see with western eyes but in Japan, teachers are respected so...Izumi showing how aldera is corrupt is a big deal, many eyes are on her and aldera.
Izumi's crimes:
Breaking in
Invasion of propriety
Identity thief
Hacking
But she exposes Aldera as it is. She ruins their lives as they ruined hers and the others. No Redestro is used nor they are anti QUIRKLESS...here they are willing to sacrifice everyone for BK (and BK is ranking bellow Mineta) and didn't spare a second (hm, this au is set UA is a colleague and they DO use the image of the students to create polls and whatnot.
You read that right ...Bk ranks bellow Mineta.
The first thing in this chapter is how Izumi is walking among the rain. She is wet and I do like this small nudge to the talks we had about what would tease Cinder...Izumi will say the phrase "I'm wet" a lot.
As for Cinder...he hears about the Usagi(means bunny) and is curious...he is not sure if she is real or if the Aldera's staff is making things up. Their crimes do make others educators frown at them...their careers are over and so is Aldera. A new school will born.
Cinder is not a fan of corrupt schools and finds aldera really stupid but if this bunny is real...that's interesting.
Cinder: if we are to meet, we will.
(I love put those lil moments here and there. Hints to the couple. Again, she says "I'm wet a lot" and is not an innuendo until it is)
Izumi is planning her next move. Nighteye. Everyone is motivated by revenge in the team. I label them "team found family revenge" lol
Congrats for the progress with your story! I want to read it as soon you publish the chapters, so let me know when that happens.
I'm aware of how Japan culturally holds a lot more respect and give importance to education than the west. Ngl I kinda admire them for that, for story porpuse I get what you try to make.
And since you're ruining the lifes of bad teachers do you have some plans for Aizawa next? I think you didn't like him that much either.
Lol isn't weird at all that Mineta should classify better than BK, as after all besides the stalker stuff and such Mineta is capable of having human decency and interact with other people normally. He also smarter according to canon and his worst tendencies became pretty tame later on.
The "I'm wet" is going to take a new meaning later lol. But I'm here for the slowburn so this sounds interesting.
So you dislike Nighteye? Yeah he's not a very likeable character tbh.
Greek gods energy 🌩
Whoever decided it was a good idea to gift us with the image of AFO and Nine showing their perfect bodies, thanks to that person 🙏
Geten as the 5th sibling feels correct.
siblings
Shinso also got the waist reduction lol
And the most obvious example of this trend is Dabi
His body is totally different in the anime than what it is in the manga.
I find funny how the anime constantly makes Shigaraki look like Lou Ferrigno in terms of muscles, in some cases his head looks like it doesn't belong to his own body:
But then you have Horikoshi drawing him like this...
Like sure, the muscles are still there but he's not this giant hulk with biceps the size of his head.
Even the manga in the first war arc doesn't have him looked like the anime does:
And I remember even the wiki copes with the idea that the surgery was supposed to give him extra muscles, but that was never stated officially and in any case his natural muscles came from the training in MVA.
Idk what's this obssesion the anime has for making all male characters buff as hell, even Dabi when canonically he's also a pipsqueak.
