After taking Allison canoeing for the first time, she said it would be cool to have a nice pair of paddles hung on our wall.
I am now in the process of making cedar canoe paddles. Pictures soon to follow!
The start of mjolnir's handle. My phone takes crappy pictures but trust me, it looks better in person :)
Everyone talks about how Millennials already have picked up grandparent hobbies. We knit, garden, whittle, and bake bread. I think this is because we’ve already been through so much in such a short time. We’re exhausted. All we want to do is wrap ourselves in a sweater, sit in the garden, and watch our plants grow.
I've been working in a wood smith shop the past 3 weeks and the other day my boss came up to me and asked "Is this really what you want to do with your life? You seem like more of an artist to me."
It was hard for me to understand what he meant. To me creating and building things out of nothing IS ART. It may not seem that way to him but being there is me being an artist.
Allison. Turtle hunter and duck whisperer.
What I've worked as- An art teacher, kids hockey coach, lifeguard, salesman, dog walker, messenger, set builder, cashier, prop maker, and basically an office bitch.
What I work at- Becoming a better climber, environmentalist, cook, friend, craftsman, artist, brother, son and boyfriend.
The career I chose is not nearly as important as what I do after my shift is done.
For us here in Chicago spring has finally arrived. I know it's almost May but here it seems like we have been cut back to only two seasons, winter and summer with maybe two weeks of fall and spring (if we're lucky). So with hopefully just three or four more days of 30 degree weather left, it's time to break out the camping gear!
Me (Jake) and my girlfriend Allison live in a one bedroom apartment in the city with our cat Turd Ferguson (Turdie for short). Even though there's a park across the street it doesn't fulfill the desire we get to be outside. This is a blog for us to share our outdoor experiences and love of nature. Enjoy!
Birthday haul.

I live for the outdoors but pound the city pavement. My wife and I wish our cat and dog would get along.
