I’m Working On Drawings For Several Zines That I Hope To Get Riosgraph Printed. I Thought A Neat Way

I’m working on drawings for several zines that I hope to get riosgraph printed. I thought a neat way to get some interest for these future projects would be to show my work.

Watch me draw and listen to me ramble!

The face I’m drawing comes from a photo in “Artist’s Models 8: Practical Poses for the Working Artist.”

...aaaand here’s what I’m aiming for the final pieces to look like.

Also, I should have more copies of my “R. J. Hill: Therapist” comic for sale later in the week.

Gather 'round For The Tale Of The Apartment Horrors I Have Just Escaped!

Gather 'round for the tale of the apartment horrors I have just escaped!

At the beginning of March, upstairs neighbors' fish tank leaked through their floor and my roommates' ceiling. Landlord came by, said the water was cleaned up, we just needed to open windows and run a fan, not a big deal.

In a semi-basement apartment. In the pacific north west.

I requested the place be inspected for water damage and mold. Landlord said he'd have the upstairs neighbors bring over a fan.

Just... A regular fucking fan.

I sent another request, this time citing local landlord/tenant law. Landlord agreed to get the place inspected.

Over the course of two weeks, we had THREE different inspectors, NOT including the city inspector.

1st inspector said they'd need to open ceiling and wall and deep clean.

2nd inspector said the place had foundation problems and seal around underground walls was cracked.

3rd inspector said they'd need to open ceiling and wall and take out the carpet.

3rd inspectors came in, opened the ceiling and found mold.

As well as asbestos.

(BTW, my maternal grandfather died of asbestos-induced lung cancer.)

So the landlord ~generously~ allowed us to move from that unit to a vacant unit. Which probably also has mold and asbestos.

While this was happening, I was having to take off from work and cancel appointments at my internship to meet inspectors and tenant advocacy groups.

I lost my appetite, barely ate.

Developed new anxiety symptoms: Heart palpitations & shortness of breath.

I found a studio apartment, smaller than any place I've been in so far, shared kitchen, more expensive, but nicer, in a nicer neighborhood. It basically wiped out my savings, but I was able to move out and get my name off the lease.

Landlord is now trying to make upstairs neighbors pay rent on the unit we vacated. He hasn't done any repairs in their unit or that one. They, and my ex-roommates, are lawyering up.

Idk if I'll get any of that deposit back but I'm fucking O U T!

To those of you that bought art from me or gave to my ko-fi, I can't even begin to say how much that meant to me. It really did make a difference.

Howdy! I’m Still Alive.

Howdy! I’m Still Alive.

Howdy! I’m still alive.

I’m fortunate, in that my day job is being done remotely, but it’s a very difficult change and I really don’t like it, so the stress has been getting to me. I was invited to be part of a really cool thing but it may have completely fallen through due to the stay at home order, I have no idea, so that kind of kneecapped my motivation, art-wise.

Hard copy version of my comics aren’t in my etsy store at the moment, as I’d been sneakily printing them on the printers at my office and I don’t have a printer at home. PDF versions are still up for sale.

At this time, I struggle to see the point of making art that doesn’t “do something.” Here are two tapestries I’ve made (I’m working on getting the edges even and reducing the amount of hour-glassing before I go totally nuts and invest in a rigid heddle loom) and some socks I darned for my boyfriend.

Dreamed that I opened a book an there were beetles hiding in the pages. I turned the page and there was a snake. I flipped the book over but the snake came at me. I grabbed it’s tail and smashed it against the wall but it wouldn’t die. I wrapped it up in plastic bags to suffocate it but I could feel its body thrashing. I felt terrible. I didn’t want to prolong its suffering but I didn’t want it to hurt me.

Dreamed that there was a tornado outside the house. Everything was dark and the whole house was shaking and when I looked out the window, I could see the tail of the tornado dragging down the road. I lay down on my stomach and put my hands over the back of my head. My grandmother walked through the dark and shaking house as if nothing were wrong.

Because The Rigid Heddle Loom Rolls Up The Cloth On The Front Bar, You Can’t See Everything I’ve

Because the rigid heddle loom rolls up the cloth on the front bar, you can’t see everything I’ve woven, so this diagram is the best way to demonstrate how increasingly unhinged this weaving is becoming.
