What can go wrong: A list of gem defects
This post is simply a very long Theory on the different types of defects that a gem can have. Warning: VERY LONG POST. On with the show!
This defect causes notable differences in stature. Undercooking causes longer and thinner stature that normal, whereas overcooking causes shorter and stockier stature. This defect varies in intensity, but if too intense the gem may have issues holding its form together.
Most gems have some impurities in the form of trace minerals, that cause harmless individual variation in appearance. Some of them, however, can be actively harmful to a gems' appearance or purposes. Common effects include:
Unusual coloration
Specks in gemstone
Lack of or Unintended abilities
This occurs when a gemstone forms in a shape not intended for the gem (i.e. amythest with a Jasper Cut). Its effects include:
Coloration issues (the example gem may have an orange tint and/or stripes)
Undesirable or broken features
Unusual weapon
Two forms of this defect exist. The effects the first originate from an unbalanced or odd mix of essence. The effects of this form can range from minor coloration issues to the entirely wrong gem emerging from the injection site. This is the less problematic form, in that it doesn’t nessecarily damage the gem and can result in new discoveries.
The other form occurs when the essence is not mixed properly or at all, resulting in a bicolored gem. This form is far, far more volatile than the first. Dangerous features include:
Multiple personalities
Difficulty holding form
Extra or missing limbs
Higher vulnerability of major impurities
This is umbrella term for issues with the injection process. They include:
Inert gemstone: These gemstones won't form a gem and can’t be used as a power source.
Underdrilling: The injector does not drill deep enough for all limbs to form. In some gems, this can be resolved by poofing and allowing to reform naturally, but this doesn’t work on gems not designed for combat.
Overheating: The injector gives too much initial heat to the incubation process, causing a mishappen or cracked/broken gemstone. These gems are almost never able to form.
Undernutrition: The earth around the injection site is lacking or devoid of minerals and nutrients. This results in anything from a pale gem, low energy and fatigue, to an inert gemstone.
Thank you very much for reading!!!

Gem Formation Theory
I have come up with a possible theory as to how gem formation works. A basic formula for it is:
For example: amythests are a purple colour, so a pink and blue diamond essence mixture is injected. They are a type of quartz, so a Silicon Dioxide based rock, such as granite, should be used. Ta da! An amythest!
Organic gems can be created using the same basic process, with a few alterations. Ambers use the same process, but instead of rock, they are injected into trees.
Pearls, specifically, are made not using diamond essence, but narce essence. Narces are the only gems other than the diamonds capable of producing essence that will create gems. The essence is then injected into a specially dug hole in an underwater kindergarten. Ta da! A Pearl!
Finally, trace elements. They are used to change the features of a gem. An example is Amythest 8XJ, whose iron deposits near her injection site caused her curly hair.
I hope this theory is helpful!

An alternative gem naming system
If you’re watched Steven Universe, you’ve probably seen fan explanations about the Facet & Cut system. The system is okay, however I feel like it lacks potential somewhat. I therefore give you my alternate naming system for your gemsonas.
The structure of the system follows this pattern:
The carat section of the name shows the quality, colour and rank of the gemstone. The notation goes:
Q6-CB-R3
The Q notation represents the quality of the gem, on a scale of 1 to 10. This gem would be about average in terms of strength and other abilities.
The C notation represents the hue of the gem. This gem would be slightly towards the blue side of the spectrum. There can also be other spectrum changes, including R (red), P (pale), and I (rich). The pale term doesn’t reflect a defect in this case. For gems that can be any or many colors, other terms can be used.
The R notation indicates the gem's place in society. This is different from the caste system. The options include:
1 - Builders
2 - Warriors/Soldiers
3 - Servants
4 - Entetainers
5 - Technicians
6 - Supervisors
7 - Colonisers
8 - Scientists
9 - Administration
10 - Pilots
This gem would be some sort of servant, perhaps a Pearl.
This may sound the same as the canonical version, but my formula is somewhat different. It reads:
SCabochon-O GPearl
It can be broken down relatively easily:
The S notation indicates the shape and cut of the gemstone. The first term can either be Cabochon or Cut. The second term represents the overall shape. The example is interpreted as a oval Cabochon. If the first term is cut, however, the name is written.
You can use this method without credit, but feel free to credit anyway.

So... That leak, huh?
I lowkey didn’t believe the corrupted Steven theory at first but now I’m legit terrified?! Our babey is not okay?! Also the gems are handling it really badly, like absolutely abysmally?! IS GREG OKAY?!!
Okay just needed to get that out of my system, thanks for listening.

Episode 15 & 16 Analysis Bits
This is a analysis post of all the little things that I, and probably some of you guys noticed in the latest 2 episodes.
So Steven used all the diamond essence. Everyone knows that. But the contrast between how the essence blends in episode 1 and 15 is pretty interesting.
In episode 1 of SUF, the blend of essence looks very smooth, bright, and wavy. It sparkles in a very nice and harmonious way.
However, in the latest episode, the blend looks far more... fragmented. Unstable. Dark.
This is probably a representation of his mental state being far more jarred, unstable, and just unhealthy. Rather than spreading evenly and properly, his essence just spreads, like a stain. Or a corruption scar....
Steven has changed shape, size and even color this season. There are some things to take note of:
Steven's form changes either uniformly or chaotically. This probably indicates weather the change is a reaction or an internal change. That's why Steven grew so chaotically and unsustainably in Growing Pains, but grew in a “healthier” way during Fragments. Not that the way he grew was healthy at all.
We know from the series that gems, including Steven, change form depending on their mental state. Steven changed into chad Steven because he felt stronger. Steven might change into the wyrm because he feels out of control, like a corrupted gem.
Steven underwent a number of physical changes during Fragments, but one of the most significant ones was his increasing resemblance to his mother.
He's taller, about quartz height. His hair is poofier, like Pink's hair, and it even has the same tufts as hers. And the eyes? People have been pointing out that they have white pupils like White's , rather than Blue and Yellow's black pupils. And that must be deliberate.
White said she wanted to fix things. When she couldn’t, she moved ahead. Steven wants to fix things, but he can't live without a purpose. His family saw him as a burden when he couldn’t do anything. That has fed into his current state, if not created it.
This is probably one of the things that hit me the hardest in this episode. He managed to:
Destroy organic life
SHATTER A GEM
Enjoy violence and causing pain
Within 3 days. All things that his mother fought so hard to prevent from occurring. Perhaps this is why he has decided to do it. His mother didn’t want it, so in an attempt to prove that he's his own person, he does all of the things that would cause disapproval from anyone but Jasper.
It's convoluted and awful, but in a way it makes sense. If he does what his family wants, they will always want more. They'll never want more of this.
When Steven said “You’re just like mum”, I was astounded by how offensively Greg took it. Astounded for a good reason. He realises that Rose wasn't an entirely altruistic person.
I think this actually shows an incredible amount of strength in Greg. I feel like Steven overreacted in the situation, but Greg has grown nonetheless.
He did get carried away though. He whisked Steven through his youth, without any regard for his feelings. Instead of sitting and talking, he tried to distract Steven. And that CD... context, Greg. Context.
Also, they way that he implies that Steven was “free” shows how little he helped bring up Steven after he moved in with the gems.
Anyway, that was a lot to unpack. I hope you enjoyed reading it! If you have any thoughts, let me know.

Where is Jasper?
So in Steven Universe: the Movie, Jasper isn't shown or even mentioned once. I have a few theories about her possible location.
She may be on a sort of pilgrimage, around Earth or the galaxies nearby. Maybe she's trying to find a place to call home, or maybe she's just thinking and recovering from her trauma, both from Lapis and the Gem War.
She may be on homeworld. I think that this is somewhat unlikely, given her anger at her situation in general, but she could be under the command of the Diamonds again. She would probably be recieving some sort of therapy.
She may be living in Little Homeworld. She would likely be working, either building or something else to keep her mind off all the crazy stuff happening.
Finally, she may be in prison. This is unlikely, but it would make sense. The diamonds would likely adopt laws similar to Earth's. Many of the things she did while pursuing Steven would be considered illegal, so she may be incarcerated due to this.
If you have any other theories I can add, please let me know!
