[Start ID. Two Drawings Of Hollow Knight OCs In The City Of Tears. The First Depicts Solper And Caramel,

[Start ID. Two drawings of Hollow Knight OCs in the City of Tears. The first depicts Solper and Caramel, an owlfly and carpenter bee respectively, just before they duel in midair, from a vantage point behind Caramel's shoulder. They're a fair distance from the ground, which is composed of a scattering of large cobblestone islands, partially submerged by a dark sea. They both seem rather enthused, fighting for fun—Caramel has her mantis claw held out to the side and other fist raised, while Solper's sabre is poised beside his head, his other limbs akimbo. The entire drawing and particularly the background are indigo-toned, drenched and shining under perpetual rain.

The second shows Molini, Hawksbeard and Dandy, a millipede, grasshopper and a moth. Molini contentedly sits as the other two use her as a bench, circled around a fire as they've just finished boiling tea, the kettle is propped up on Dandy's nail and settled between two poles taken from Solper and Caramel's battleground. The background is dark enough to appear fully blank, though a handful of lumaflies and the light of a hidden central fire shine upon the three bugs. Hawksbeard is chatting, the others listen, all three holding cups from which pale steam rises in clouds. While the firelight is particularly bright, the tone of the drawing is warm, in both color and feeling. End ID]

March 30 was the first time I'd interacted with @hollypies (feat. their Dandy), and April 5th my earliest memory of @original-character-chaos (feat. his Solper). So I offer a two-weeks-late first-anniversary drawing to my mutuals :]

peridots-reblogs hmm. this is only my second srb i think ever (last one was the izzy drawing which shared the privilege of a month-anniversary reblog) ((even if this one's a day late)) but i just enjoy this one! i had to look at it again cause i'm updating art fight refs and i can appreciate the time put into these (cough. three weeks). i describe all of my art as experimental but these two especially so and i suppose i'm still proud of the water-shine and the tint of the background and the rain in the first one and the warmth and the vivid lighting and the steam in the second. plus it's gift art which always takes the longest but is the most. fulfilling maybe? i adore making people happy and i think that's finally come back around to become the reason i post!!! and i'm feeling good today. so hi ghost hi nattou hi nox and holly and qwerty hi to everyone who i've drawn something for hi to anyone who never got a reply hi to the mutuals i never talk to and the mutuals i do hi to the people who've been following me forever hi to everyone who sees me in their notes from time to time and hi to everyone who i see in my notes from time to time. i'm making this post one of my testaments to a love of my friends because hey it's my blog and i should get to be sentimental like that! and looping it back around again that's one of the reasons i'm so excited for art fight in the first place. it's a chance to give back to all of my fandom neighbors who're always presenting such rad art and give back to the people who always show up for me now: is this coherent rambling in the tags? no!! and if it is that's not one of my posts! so i present this to you all and goodnight :]

Uh.

I just found a bug? And have no idea what it is?? ??????

Under readmore because I listed everything I could about it (not including colors which are instead described using actual images)

-Winged/adult insect

-Setaceous antennae same length as body (using below measurement)

-15/16 of an inch (2.5 cm) exactly from head to wingtips

-Four straight wings folded over back, hindwings significantly longer than forewings, forewings are nearly 1/2 an inch (~12mm) while hindwings nearly 3/4 of an inch long (18 or 19 mm). Hindwings curve into a long bottleneck-like shape past the end of the abdomen, stretch 6/7mm past abdomen

-Two black compound eyes less than one mm diameter

-Head 2mm long and about a millimeter and a half wide

-The thorax (or whatever portion visible above the wings, though likely the full length) is just barely noticeably thinner than head and presumably between 2/16 and 6/16ths of an inch (I don't have an underside view so I can't see exactly where it ends) (3mm to 10mm)

-Abdomen roughly between 1.5 cm (9/16 inch) and 1cm (6/16 inch) depending on previous thorax debate, what seems to be a visible black ovipositor half a centimeter long, two tan cerci about a mm and a half long each

-Relatively long, thin mouthparts greatly resembling an Orthopteran's

-Hind legs assumed equal length to hind wings, mid and forelimbs have a tibia and femur of equal length and are about 7mm long total--all legs are smooth rather than serrated

-Wings are opaque but with visible veins

-For clarification, after I got as close as possible to a wingless view the thorax and abdomen are assumed to be equal in length

-This Specific Individual isn’t really moving much except its (her?) antennae unless prompted and hasn’t opened its wings at all.

Conclusion: The insect it most closely resembles is a grasshopper, so it’s probably part of Orthopterida if not simply Orthoptera but I am still left with so many questions

A full-body drawing of a person with bat-like wings replacing their arms. The drawing is wide and mirrored so that you can see the person's front and back. Their lower arms are longer than on a human, and their hands are even longer and thin with membranes between each finger. The non-human traits include their wide and pointed ears, their thin tail, and opposable thumb on both feet. The membrane on their hands stretches from their pinky to their tail, and connects along their back. Both sides are pierced twice close to their body to allow for clothes, once above each hip and once under each armpit. The person is wearing a long sleeveless shirt and jean shorts with a space for their tail. Both garnments have a strap running through the membrane's lower holes to connect in the back. A note next to the drawing mention that the person uses their feet to hold objects since they have no hands, and there are some doodles featuring how their clothes work and what else they can wear.

Decided to answer my own question of "how does a person with wings wear clothes" except without taking the easier route of avian/insect wings for once

1, 8, and 18 for the asks~!

1: Favorite color to work with

Never really thought about it before! I don’t think I actually have a specific color (maybe greens or reds, but I’m not sure those aren’t just often-used as opposed to well-liked), but the eyestrain, bright yellow/red/teal/blue palette definitely fits the bill, it’s Very fun to use. Gold’s fun to render, too.

8: Show some art from 1-2 years ago

Boye. 1-2 years is a large time frame. I’m taking it to mean anything between one and two years ago, which pretty much lands everything in 2021. I’m not sure if this was supposed to be pieces I actually still like or an accurate representation of that year, I’ll choose the first, as I wouldn’t consider most of it terribly interesting.

image

Feb 18 - one of my very few lineless pieces, for a person I engaged in frequent art trades with

image

Sep 4 - yeah we sure are gonna skip seven months, here’s one of the first times I used a non-black color for shading/lineart: a beloved older OC, mosa :]

image

Sep 28 - A cropped screenshot from a time I tried pixel art again. Surprisingly, it wasn’t connected to any media or world of mine, I just had an idea for an animation (...that did become the basis for a lesser fictional world). Unfortunately the file’s autosave was overwritten and it wasn’t finished, so a couple screenshots and a video of my progress are all that remain of it

18: How long have I been drawing? When did I begin to call myself an artist?

Funny thing is I was just wondering about that. I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, I've had long phases of experimenting with clay and origami and pipe cleaners, five years ago I made an art folder for school that was so filled by my various drawings and doodles it's now two inches thick (I carried it around with me everywhere, no matter the circumstance), four years ago I added pixel art to the menagerie, and yet I only actually considered myself an artist two years ago. That was when I was gifted an old art tablet, and thus began what I've previously described as a personal renaissance, as I was allowed access to tools I never used before, diversified and improved, forgot everything I thought I knew about art to learn it again. Fun times.
