Solar System: Things to Know This Week

From images to virtual reality and interactive simulations, NASA offers plenty of ways to explore our solar system – and beyond – in 3-D.

1. Step One: Get the Glasses

Many of the images and interactive features require special glasses with red and blue lenses.

2. Breaking News (Virtual Reality Edition)

Big news from 40 light-years away (235 trillion miles). Our Spitzer Space Telescope revealed the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star. Three of these planets are firmly located in the habitable zone, all of them have the potential for water on their surfaces.

This image was created by combining two images from STEREO B (Feb. 24, 2008) taken about 12 hours apart, during which the sun’s rotation provides sufficient perspective to create a nice 3-D effect.

4. Your Star in 3-D

The STEREO (Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory) mission studied the sun in 3-D with twin satellites.

5. National Parks in 3-D

The Earth-orbiting Terra satellite’s Multiangle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) instrument provides 3-D views while orbiting Earth, including some great shots of our National Parks.

6. Get in the Pilot’s Seat

Take a look inside the cockpit of our high altitude ER-2 aircraft as it descends for landing at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. This month, scientists used used the aircraft to collect data on coral reef health and volcanic emissions and eruptions. Flying at 65,000 feet, above 95 percent of Earth’s atmosphere, the ER-2 has a unique ability to replicate the data a future satellite could collect. Data from this mission will help in developing a planned NASA satellite mission to study natural hazards and ecosystems called Hyperspectral Infrared Imager, or HyspIRI.

7. Moon Views

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter creates 3-D images from orbit by taking an image of the moon from one angle on one orbit and a different angle on a separate orbit.

I need help.

So I’m sure you all have heard about what happended a few months ago!! If you didn’t let me fill you in.

So this year I dropped out of school and ran away from my abusive parents to live w/ my grandmother.

It was ok until they brought their son and they left him over here and then everyone proceeded to crowd up on my grandmother. My step father, and biological mom came and moved in w/ us despite my grandmother giving them a house to live at w/ no rent provided they pay the bills and taxes

the house was in really awful condition and the lights were off 2 months out of the year and they showed no signs of trying to fix up the place or take care of us and make sure I had what I needed

so they were v verbally abusive and one day it escalated to physical abuse w/ my dad hitting me and pushing me down onto glass. I called the police and bc they found out we were all staying here they evicted my grandma and she has until the 14th of dec to move out!!

she’s basically stopped supporting me financially and I have no clothes, barely any food to eat, and every day she’s been telling me how’s she’s going to go into foster care and leave me w/ no place to stay bc she hates me for what I’ve done to her (getting her evicted)

I basically need money to buy myself clothes, a drawing tablet so I can start taking commissions and earn money myself, and possibly buy food bc no one in our house is able to take care of me or my baby brother

they’re both working adults w/ full time jobs and they’ve spent all of their money on frivolous things and ran off, leaving me w/ they’re son and no diapers or food for days at a time

im v stressed out and I’ve been disassosiated really badly bc of stress so if you could send money, reblog, or signal boost this it would help me alot!!

4. He gave out a senators private number out of spite.

5. If he can’t fix his hair how can we expect him to fix our economy?

6. He accused all immigrants of being rapists.

7. He believes immigrants stealing jobs is actually a thing.

8. He believes that sexual assault is to be expected when men and women are put together.

9. He’s disgusted by breast feeding.

10. He’s overall just a sexist, racist bully who uses his money in order to push people around.
