So I was recently asked for advice on how to study history so I thought I’d share my tips and tricks.
- Taking Notes. When you take notes (in university/college) I recommend audio recording the lecture (with permission of course), I love to use OneNote for this as you can keep your recording in the same place as your written notes.
- LISTEN! I like to pay 100% attention in my lectures and then listen to the recording immediately after while writing notes. This means that I’m focusing on how the lecturer links their points and understanding the material, not just copying it down from what they say.
First! you must remember that history is a narrative. Meaning that it is a story following a logical order if you understand the sequence of events its so easy to understand the history.
Make Flashcards (I like to use Quizlet as I can access my flashcards whenever I need them). Flashcards can include dates, key figures/events.
Plan Essays, A great way to prepare for exams is to prepare practice essay questions, it allows you to create links in your knowledge and connect your ideas - (there’s no point in memorising something if you don’t know where you could apply it.
Teach Someone! (or just pretend to), this is my favourite technique for memorising information, it means that you can understand
Plan what you need to do! Research, plan, write, reference, check. It makes you feel accomplished and motivates you to tick more things off of the checklist.
Finish at least 2 days before the due date. This gives you plenty of time to leave the essay and come back to it for a final read through. Fresh eyes are the best eyes
Feel free to share your own tips and let’s ace this together

Hello Elise!! First of all, happy birthday!! @lettersbyelise
Second, to celebrate your special day and another trip 'round the sun, I thought it was a good time to let loose my undying admiration for you and your work.
You're one of the authors whose works I vividly remember reading in my first year of shipping Drarry. These are those fics.
Kill, Fuck, Marry is scorching, hilarious, and so fucking fun.
Draco Malfoy’s Stupendous Seduction Seminar is full of AMAZING tension and a dynamic to die for.
Re: Harry's Crush is one of my go-to comfort fics. I love how you explore Drarry through multiple POVs.
The Generation Who Lived was really amazing to me as a young journalism major. It explored one of my favorite Drarry fic tropes, which is reflecting on the war. Watching Drarry's journey and reading the interviews with the characters makes for an all-around stunning story.
Cabin Fever is...oh man this one is really fucking hot for a story about being snowed in.
Love Me (Four Times) is so full of tenderness and, well, love.
we were something, don't you think so? is one of the best Taylor Swift-inspired Drarry fics.
What An Auror You Make is absolutely gorgeous pining and unspoken communication and tender loveliness.
Upstaged is a fic of yours I don't think I'd seen before and I just finished it and it's utterly glorious and lovely and achingly perfect. It's angsty and funny and fun and sweet and sexy.
Thank you for all the work you've done in fandom, and all you continue to do. It's been an honor and joy to get to know you in the last couple of months. And, once again, happy birthday!!
Do you happen to have any Patrochilles modern au fic or comic recommendations?
I haven’t read too many but here’s a short list with links (most of these are just the popular ones on ao3):
Not Homer’s Iliad (I remember this was pretty good and a little funny)
at least as deep as the pacific ocean (I am a sucker for Coffeeshop AUs)
tell me again (Blind Patroclus AU, depressing but also sweet)
as the poets say (short but I loved the way it was written, just beautiful)
your name like a song (this one’s just pretty)
We were like gods (this one’s a longer)
Lux Aeterna (a tiny bit angsty, totally worth the read)
Also, this one’s not a Modern AU but definitely worth mentioning is The Good Soul which was absolutely amazing.
Bear in mind, these are mainly TSOA fanfics, not Iliad fanfics.
I haven’t found any comics yet but I will keep a lookout. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

“YOU WILL LOSE NEXT TIME!” You yelled as you ran towards a building across the street, sliding behind it and into a dark alleyway, hiding until the crowd would dissipate.
It was rare that you used your voice since you had to keep your identity a secret, after all. Even when you did use your voice, you would change the tone, to make it less likely for someone to recognize you. After everything that had happened, you were completely out of breath, with cuts on your face and blood dripping from said cuts.
Who would’ve thought that you’d end up like this? You were a villain, humanity’s number one enemy, at least when they are derived from its own. The trouble you caused would always appear in every local headline, sometimes even showing up around the world.
