I Grew Up Catholic So I Have A Bit More Context (which Unfortunately Doesn’t Make It Much Better).

I grew up Catholic so I have a bit more context (which unfortunately doesn’t make it much better).

Mary Magdalene was commonly assumed to have been a prostitute (which isn’t biblically supported and actually wasn’t commonly believed until a while after Christianity was formed). Even after her conversion she’s shown as nude because it was common belief that she lived nude as penance and only used her long hair as clothing. She’s actually quite often shown in various forms of nudity and seductive positioning in her artistic depictions because she’s basically the scapegoat due to her position as “prostitute” or later “penitent”.

The mind naturally wants to think about sex after you go through puberty and your libido picks up, but in Catholicism you quite literally are not allowed to think about it at all because that counts as “adultery of the mind”. The only time this rule doesn’t count is if you’re condemning someone for sexual sins. This is why you see Catholics (and more conservative Christian groups who have this same rule) absolutely obsessed with constantly thinking and talking about and condemning other people for having sex they don’t like. Their mind craves some type of release for the curiosity they have so they become incredibly fixated on it in a negative fashion because it’s the way to get around that rule. This also leads them to have incredibly toxic sexual relationships after they enter marriage and are finally able to have sex because men have associated sexual arousal with a level of disgust or distaste for the woman.

(In addition, women accidentally get around this rule because we are taught to be constantly afraid of sexual assault sullying our virginity, so the mind often focuses upon that fear, eventually associating sexual arousal with the idea of being violated, which is why you see so many of them encouraging or flaunting violating relationships online.)

Going back to depictions of Mary Magdalene, since she was a prostitute she was the men of the time’s way of getting around that rule. It doesn’t count as them being lustful if they’re also condemning her actions even as it arouses them. It’s why she was one of the most common subjects of religious painting outside of the usual patriarchal figures and Mary the mother of Jesus. The really ironic thing is that there is absolutely no proof of her being a prostitute. She was actually quite rich and supported Jesus monetarily, but people liked to assume she got the money through dishonest means instead of through any type of skill or labor, or frankly even just coming from a wealthy family.

Anyway sorry for the rant lol Mary Magdalene was my birth patron saint, and I’m still very attached to her and upset by how much she’s been slandered by the church even though I haven’t been Catholic for years now. Hopefully it was interesting.

This one has always confused me and I’ve had people try to argue with me about it in actual conversations and it’s always like, yeah? I’d rather work 35-40 hours a week for a paycheck that I can then divide up how I see fit, than be constantly on the clock and on an allowance. When my boss kisses me without my consent I can file a case for workplace harassment but I can’t do that with my husband, especially if he’s holding the money above my head. I don’t have to give birth to my boss’ kids. If he’s annoying I can just clock out and go to my peaceful home but I can’t do that with a husband.

Also I’m gay but the point still stands lol

“feminists would rather be wage slaves than care for their husband and children” so instead of being a wage slave i get to be a maid for a wage slave. wow thats awesome

4) I wouldn’t really say I am insecure anymore. I used to be super insecure about everything for years but eventually I realized that I was wasting my time and that life is about experiencing the world, and not about how people experience me. There’s a few things I’d like to change (like becoming more muscular) but I don’t see my lack of my desired musculature as a source of insecurity like I might have before.

15) I do have pets! 2 Guinea pigs, and they’re lesbians for each other lol

32) I don’t really have a singular favorite color but I’m currently really into red and blue, specifically the tones I have my blog themed to. Also loves good moss green. Basically colors you can find in nature, I have a hatred for neons and unnatural colors.

Girl why you calling yourself bitch

It’s a reclamation thing for me, same reason I call myself a dyke. I am one, according to social standards of female behavior, I’m loud and opinionated, I take up space, I express my hatred for people and things without apology. The slur loses its power if I call myself it first, and with affection. I like being a bitch and a dyke, and being unlikeable to men and women who uphold the patriarchal system. I like the freedom it gives me to be an undeniably mean lesbian.

Also I’m punk and we do have a history of using strong language to get people’s attention lol

I’m not really understanding what u mean by this? I’m not running my blog to trauma dump my life’s sorrow but I’ve definitely had more than my fair share of horrible experiences including CSA, grooming, conversion therapy, escaping a religious cult, even more SA, and an abusive relationship that included knives being pulled, off the top of my head. I’m just not out here to talk about them in gory detail.

“This should be considered a problem for men” like my bad experiences were caused by men, or I myself am a problem for men somehow? The former is true and I do talk about that but again, I’m not here to go into crazy detail or spend undue attention on past abuse, especially in this post which was supposed to be more positive.

Radical feminism, centering women, and worshipping female deities really turned my life around FAST because what do you mean my constant mental health problems are slowly alleviating, I’m making new female friends, I’ve finally left behind the toxic male friends, I’ve applied to and gotten my first management position, I’m gaining weight and muscle, and I’m talking to a lovely beautiful femme all within this year so far. Like I know radical feminism covers very serious issues too and politically life kind of sucks, but life really is beautiful as well when you center women and female-ness among the chaos. I love rad feminism and I love lesbianism.

“Menstruate on it” as a synonym for pondering; sounds familiar enough to “ruminate” to immediately signify the meaning, but with an air of female intuition

Ughhhh I’m working on a longer piece about the presence of patriarchy/rape culture in the LGBTQ community (and I know a lot of you are separatists, and I also am, but since it’s socially considered a community we all get lumped in together, hence the problems I’m talking about)

But anyway I’ve been stewing over it for like 2 weeks and thinking of what I want to say but there’s just so much it’s hard to figure out how to lay it all out in a way that makes sense and flows well so people will actually want to stick around and read the whole thing 😭😭 send help

The terfbreaking tag is the perfect example of why TIMs are dangerous in women's spaces. It's just male fantasies about raping and sexually degrading women they disagree with. And that's what men do. They see a woman they don't like? They immediately come up with some kind of sexual debasement in their minds because to them that's enough to reduce and dismiss her. They use their sexuality as a weapon against women. And that's what TIMs do on here and call it progressive.
