So whatâs with the soup in OFMD?
Iâve seen a few takes on what the soup symbolizes in OFMD S2 because it does come up a weird amount of times. Iâve seen takes that the soup is a lie and shouldnât be trusted. Takes that the soup represents love and all that is good. Iâve seen takes that the soup isnât anything at all, itâs just soup.
I donât agree with those takes. But I do believe that the soup is more than just soup.
In my opinion, the soup represents community.
Community doesnât necessarily mean love. A community can be arrayed against you as much as it can be with you. You can choose not to have a community, to break bread, with someone. But a community is something most of us desire and as Izzy notes in the trailer, being a pirate is about being part of something.
- Zheng Yi Sao makes damn good soup. Symbolically, I believe this is a reflection of how she runs a tight ship. How effective she is as pirate queen and in general as a leader of her community. People in her community are well treated. Her leadership style, like the broth of the soup, is balanced. Had Olu remained with her, he would have been well treated. She wasnât being duplicitous with Stede and his crew. Her soup is great, her community is great, and they would have been well fed there had they stayed.
The soup isnât a value judgement on anything beyond the quality of the community offered. Should they stay? What happens now that they didnât? Not relevant to the soup metaphor. Weâll find out what happens when you reject Zhengâs amazing soup. At the very least, you just donât get any more of it.
- Hornigold offers soup to Ed. Ed rejects it. He finds Hornigoldâs community poisonous. He doesnât trust it and he doesnât want to join it.
Itâs simple as that. The soup wasnât necessarily literally poisoned. The more relevant metaphor is breaking bread with someone as a sign of trust. Ed wants nothing to do with Hornigoldâs community.
Most likely where this is leading is a continued used of soup as a metaphor for Ed and Stede and the crew figuring out what kind of community they want to build together. Is the broth balanced? Is it poisoned? Is it too salty, too sweet? Who do we share it with? Who do we refuse to accept soup from? Itâs all about community.

This was ultimately quite fun and made me push my colors harder than I have in a very long while! This last batch was definitely my favorite.
scrappy little doodles that i never posted
As a Hyrulian pc pagan and kitchen witch, I love love love making food from the Zelda games irl. However, it can be hard to find these recipes, and so Iâve put them all in one place to help anyone with the same predicament. These are great for offerings, or for Hyrulian holidays (if you celebrate them). NOTE: You obviously donât have to be a Hyrulian pc pagan to use these recipes â feel free to get cooking even if youâre just a casual fan of the Zelda franchise!

one piece made me realize how good the found family trope is,,there r so many found families in op that icanât even fit them all if i wanted to.liek the way one piece masters the concept of âyou can find your family anywhereâ. if u love the found family trope and havent watched one piece literaly what are u doing
one piece shows that you can still find your family even when you lose yours,, you arent forced to consider biological family your real family.sanji abandoning his terrible abusive biological family and finding zeff, and later joining the straw hats,, robin watching her mother and her community dying in front of her, having sauls parting words be that she will one day find friends who truly care about her,,years later meeting the straw hats, who literally declared war on the world to save her and would do it again,, law also saw his family and community die before his eyes and became consumed with hate ,,doflamingo found him and spent 3 years manipulating him and trying to mold him into a monster ,which then corazon takes law after hearing that law carries the will of d,,law and cora grow a bond , cora doing anything to save the terminally ill boy and protecting him from the hands of doflamingo,,when cora dies, law is determined to avenge his death, and he commemorates him through every single thing he does,, law learns that there was never a reason corazon loved him,and that you cant stick a reason to why somebody loves you
found family in one piece is important cuz it shows that a family can be anything. theres no such thing as to what a family is supposed to look like,, it represents many of the reasons why found family comes to be. loss, abuse, bonds,,your family is just people that genuinely respect and care about you
the lesson here is that the found family trope solos and one piece is goated
