barty crouch jr is test smart because when he was younger, his dad made him do tons of tests. He's not very good at most assignments or projects because they require extra work that tests don't. he also just doesn't care about school work as a f u to his dad. But every year he studies like crazy for tests and passes on those only.

Barty 100% had glasses because he was farsighted and had trouble reading but he refused to wear them because they "weren't rebel enough" but whenever exams were near he would have too, so there would just be this alternative dude with little old man glasses wondering around hogwarts and panicking about exams
