I just know little Padawan Anakin would subconsciously speak in Obi-Wan’s accent when around him and Obi-Wan doesn’t talk about it, in fact he finds it endearing
It wasn’t until Mace was talking to Anakin and hear little Ani with Obi-Wan’s vocal cadence and slight Coruscanti accent and he is just “???” because Anakin has only been at the temple for a month? Why does he sound like baby Obi-Wan?
Even when Anakin is a full grown knight, he would slip in this habit when giving report to the council and they are just “yep yep that’s still Obi-Wan’s baby”
Jedi reacting to news of Commander Fox killing the chancellor (aka the Clone Uprising)
Mace Windu: ughhh, that’ll be so much paperwork.
Yoda: knew it would happen, I did.
Plo Koon: oh that’s fine, I just hope no one was hurt.
Ki Adi-Mundi: oh he actually did it? I thought he was joking.
Kit Fisto: Is Palpatine that old guy in the senate??
Depa Billaba: * too busy to give a statement *
Shaak Ti: that’ll do it.
Anakin Skywalker: oh my god, I just, oh my damn, that’s like, wow holy shit-
Obi-Wan Kenobi: oh WHAT that was today?! I missed it?!
Ahsoka Tano: wow dunked on
Aayla Secura: lmao
Quinlan Vos: lmao
see, the problem with liking star wars, and specifically obi-wan is that a lot of people also like him but they like him wrong. like girl, idgaf about obi-wan leaving the order! he wouldn't do that! like, the appeal of obi-wan's character to me is the fact that he's like The Jedi ever. and so many people wanna take that away from him
also! as an aroallo person, i love like, whatever the jedi have going on with their code and i see many a fic where writers just like, disregard it?? and i love codywan as much as the next guy, I just need to see them have the worlds worst situationship ever bc neither of them want to break their codes but also whatever they got going on is so so good and also its a war so who is gonna stop them and also their relationship is going to go down in flames and hurt the both of them so much
anyways, thanks for reading my mini rant
"AAAAAHHHHHHH"
i feel positively evil for having missed it last year when everything actually matched up perfectly (2/2/24 if you're beyond confused) but i was flipping through tumblr while running errands earlier so i rushed home and spit this out (that is 100% what happened with no abridging whatsoever)
pardon the impromptu anatomy study but i did not feel like drawing all that top half armor nonsense and i needed the practice

experimenting with food is so scary like what if this sucks ass and now i gotta eat it anyway or i'll starve
*reading discourse-y posts again* I do think there's often a rejection of any mundane considerations in the jedi, which I sort of get, since they're fantasy space wizards with swords, so any mundanity can feel incongruous, but for me that's part of the charm.
Take for example a discussion about why Anakin didn't visit/follow up on Shmi during his apprenticeship. If I proposed that maybe he could not afford it, that's deeply mundane. The idea that the temple is just really really far away and they didn't have a private ship they could borrow on their off time, and there's not actually a galactic internet he can facetime shmi, a poor farmer, on, that's very mundane for a fantasy space wizard with a sword.
But they're monks. They don't have a salary. They don't have personal wealth. They have some collective resources, and they're granted some resources by various parties. Anakin is eventually able to go to Tatooine when Padme offers to take him there. Maybe he faced censure for the unauthorized trip offscreen, but not enough to affect the plot in any way. Similarly, when Obi Wan goes on a personal mission to help Satine, he borrows Anakin's fixer-upper ship, and he isn't shown to get into trouble for taking a little vacation either (so maybe it's not just that it's super duper strictly forbidden.)
So then like. Yeah, there is a cultural reason for parents not being in contact with children sent to the temple. For sure. There's plenty of spiritual/cultural things going on, that get bound up in this. If it's part of your religion that you're part of greater whole and that some people aren't fundamentally more important than others based on things like blood, there's not going to be a prioritized resource allocation for visiting family members on the other side of the galaxy. Shmi deserves help as an enslaved person, but not more than any other enslaved person. Then maybe you have Quinlan running some op on tatooine, and maybe he could give Anakin some peace of mind, except if that would compromise opsec in any way, in which case that's not his priority. That's a cultural reasoning.
But also maybe sometimes the reason Anakin didn't go sooner is because he didn't have a sugarmama yet and maybe the reason Qui Gon didn't free Shmi is that his mind tricks didn't work on Watto. Maybe the fantasy space wizards with swords have normal-people problems too.
"Jedi must ignore their feelings." "That's quite a statement. Is it your own?" "Yes." Then the boy considered. "Well... Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan said much the same." "I think you misunderstood," Mace said. "Jedi do not ignore their feelings. They integrate them. Own them. They fear, but they are not afraid of fear. They grow angry, but they allow their anger to motivate only honorable action. Do you understand?" The boy nodded, but Mace knew he did not --yet. There was time. -Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss by Steven Barnes, pg 24
"The Light Side being good and the Dark Side being evil has no nuance!"
Why though? Neither side is inherent, they're choices. Does a difficult choice between good and evil not sound nuanced to you? Does the choice between a painful path and the complete erasure of who you are no sound fucking nuanced to you?
The Dark and Light Sides are a binary choice between good and evil, and… that's great! The morals are simple, but the nuance is not in the basic and very simple morality (murder bad), it's in the circumstances that make adhering to your morals difficult.
Is Anakin Skywalker wanting to do good but not being able to because that would mean not having what he wants not nuanced to you?
Is Asajj Ventress —an assassin, a Sith Acolyte, a bounty hunter— letting a girl go because she doesn't want her to lose her family like Ventress did, even though that would cost her a lot of money she needs to survive not nuanced to you?
Is Dooku wanting to fix the corruption of the Republic and ending up being worse because he believes he knows best not nuanced to you?
Is Darth Vader choosing right for once in his life and becoming who his son needs him to be not nuanced to you?
Is Cal, Kanan, Obi-Wan and all other Order 66 survivors remaining good and kind when everything's against them not nuanced to you?
Is Luke seeing the good still left in Space Hitler and forgiving and loving his father the Sith Apprentice despite everything he's done not nuanced to you?
Is Finn choosing mercy and defiance of the First Order despite being kidnaped, indoctrinated and brainwashed by them not nuanced to you?
Is Rey being good and choosing not to let her bloodline define her not nuanced to you?
Is Ben Solo choosing evil despite everyone around him being good not nuanced to you?
Is Han Solo, a selfish man, choosing to go into a killzone to save his friends not nuanced to you?
Is Mace Windu commiting high treason to save the Republic regardless of what happens to him not nuanced to you?
Is Ezra Bridger being selfish and thinking of himself but choosing to be selfless when he realizes how much that means not nuanced to you?
If we go to Legends:
Is Jacen Solo becoming a monster because he wants to spare his daughter from a horrible fate not nuanced to you?
Is Jaina Solo killing her brother to save the galaxy not nuanced to you?
Is Cade Skywalker seeing the Force as a tool and being dragged into evil more and more not nuanced to you?
What does nuance mean to you anyways? Do you even know what that means or are you just trying to be edgy?
