And so the Little Red Hen harvested the wheat herself and made it into flour.

"Who will help me bake the flour?" the Little Red Hen asked.

"I would." said the Pig "But I'm a mother of 5 newborn piglets, and I'm too busy taking care of my young."

And so the Little Red Hen baked the bread herself into twenty beautiful loaves.

"Who will help me eat the bread?" the Little Red Hen asked.

"We would." said the Farm Animals. "But we're ashamed, for we didn't do anything to make the bread."

"Nonsense!" said the Little Red Hen. "You, Horse, helped move around the stones that built my oven. You, Dog, kept me safe while I worked. And you, Pig, are raising a new generation of Farm Animals, who will too contribute to our Farm one day. You've all helped me so much by simply being you."

"Besides," the Little Red Hen added. "I couldn't possibly eat all the loaves on my own, most of them would go to waste. Come, eat with me."

And so the Little Red Hen and the Farm Animals ate the bread together. And all saw their own, and each other's, worth.

people laugh at me for always asking a baby's permission before picking them up but let me tell you when my nephew was seven months old I picked him up off the floor without checking first and he was absolutely outraged and reproached me with terrible wails. just because a person is very small doesn't mean it's not scary and upsetting to be scooped up out of nowhere by a much larger person. quite the contrary. obviously if a baby is in danger or the situation is otherwise pressing you can temporarily suspend the rules of polite behavior and just grab them up, much like you are allowed to violently shove a grownup if a speeding car is bearing down on them. but that doesn't mean you just go around shoving people as a matter of routine. show some consideration to our latest arrivals on this horrible planet. they are better at communicating than you think

i lead a youth outdoor skills afterschool program every week and some of the kids are from a christian school & some are from a public school and on the bus this week one of the kids announced that she doesn't believe in god, which really perturbed the other children, and they all started discussing & then debating and talking over each other so I said, "Hey everyone, if this isn't a conversation we can have calmly and kindly, we will have to change the topic."

I watched these ten years olds (and one eight-year-old) all take a moment to emotionally regulate, and then they took turns and gave everyone a chance to speak until they all finally decide on their own without any guidance from me that they simply would not agree on this and to move on. the next topic was what forms mountain ranges.

once again I am here to tell writers to please avoid writing 10-year-olds like 4-year-olds like I so often see because they're out here having theological debates with more empathy for each other than most I've seen on this website

i love it actually when nonnative speakers make mistakes that reveal how their native languages work.

lots of koreans online say they "eat" drinks which would assume they only have one word which covers the concept of consumption.

arabic immigrants in sweden (my mother included) have a hard time differentiating between "i think/i believe/my opinion is" which suggests that in arabic these different modalities of speaker agency is treated as one or at least interchangeable.

swedish speakers in english will use should/shall/have to/must with much higher nuance precision than native english speakers, to the point where they sound well awkward, because the distinction between these commands in swedish is much clearer than in english. i make mistakes between is/am/are and has/have constantly because swedish only has one pronoun covering all grammatical persons.

i've heard speakers of languages without gendered pronouns (finnish, the chinese dialects, and a tonne more) make he/she mistakes because it's hard(!!) to learn two or more gendered pronouns and when to use them correctly.

how neat is that?! it add a charm to international english usage in particular and make our appreciation of both our native languages and our learnt ones stronger...!!

Heya my DIY friends: You do not transition faster or get more manly/feminine by using more than your effective dose of HRT. It's an 'on' switch on puberty, not a speed dial. A lower dose will slow it down (kinda) but you can not make a puberty go faster or further by taking more and more. It has an unmovable maximum speed.

Folks on estrogen: if you're not getting all the results you want, consider whether adding progesterone and/or testosterone-blockers are right for you. Combi therapy might take you further than constantly upping the E dose. Each medication has its own risks and side effects so read up before you start.

Folks on testosterone: taking too much actually makes you transition slower 'cause your body converts excess T back into E. The only thing you might speed up that way is balding. Sorry guys, dial it back a bit and you might actually see more results.

it’s no less gross for a woman to try and pressure you into performing a sex act you don’t enjoy and don’t want to perform than it would be for someone of any other gender identity to do so and it’s not okay for a woman to tell you that you’re “not really a lesbian/not really bi/not really whatever” if you’re not willing to perform certain sex acts on her or on any other women. these things are sex shaming, manipulative, and abusive no matter who they’re coming from.

please remember that you’re allowed to have sexual preferences no matter what your orientation is. you’re allowed to say no to certain sex acts and have that respected. no one of ANY gender identity has the right to shame you for that or try to pressure you into performing sex acts you don’t want to perform. no one of ANY gender identity or sexuality has the right to deny your orientation based on your sexual preferences.
