MARK OF ATHENA PART 2
canât stop thinking about how much leoâs death was foreshadowed (maybe by accident) in tlh. like festus is an extension of leo because of their (perceived) similarities ie leo doesnât think he can connect with other people, would be feared or cast away because of his power. and then festus dies on him, temporarily sacrificing himself to save the lost trio. this sacrifice on festusâ part isnât pointless, since it saves them from midasâ traps, but it doesnât solve the entirety of leoâs problem. this motif of a failed/temporary sacrifice is repeated at the end of boo, when leo temporarily dies to save jason from the prophecy but all it does is push jasonâs fate to a later time. and i think thats the core of their tragedy, and the tragedy of all demigods in pjo: trying your best to save the people you love and the futility of that hope in the face of fate
thinking about leos fear of fire bc he believes that he killed his mother in a fire and then how he thought he was about to die when he literally went down in flames of his own accord and that he probably felt like it was more of a debt being repayed than anything else
thinking about how the love between mother and son is such a prominent theme in heroes of olympusâŚ
percy, who would do anything to keep sally safe, who would destroy cities if that made her happy. who would sacrifice himself without hesitation for her, who thinks that she deserved - not anything that she got, much less him as a son - but the whole world, and all the peace and love it has to offer. why couldnât he protect her like she should have?
luke, who had his mother taken away when he was young, not by death, but by a burden that the gods had bestowed upon her. had to watch as she screamed at the gods that he would later grow to hate and rebel against, one question asking itself in his head as he loses himself to kronos: why did you leave her broken like that?
frank, who lost his mother to the very thing heâs supposed to embody. who has the capacity and the urge to do what he was made to do, and yet canât bring himself to do it, because is this really what she would want him to be? how is he supposed to fight for those he loves, if it all feels like turning his back on the person he loved the most?
leo, who was tricked into thinking his mother succumbed to the flames he himself created. whose pain and misery stemmed from the moment that garage door shut. in his effort to protect his mother, he had killed her, and he sees her face every time he closes her eyes, and every time he sparks at the finger tips. can a son who killed his mother ever be a hero?

jason grace, but desi.Â
jason having glasses is pretty gay... what does he need them for? to stare lovingly into leo's eyes?
man i could have never seen their breakup coming
biased because i do like Leo but also none of u remember anything about him. leo's fine at reading emotions? he also cries a bunch? he is constantly trying to help others? he's always been selfless? he constantly wants to improve his skills and learn more? he always has a plan or is always trying to formulate one? this is literally the basics of his character but it's never seen when u guys talk about him lol

[id: a digital colored drawing of frank and leo. leo is on the left side of the image, using a computer that is off-screen, wearing a red crop top over a grey tanktop. he has a shocked and sad expression on his face and is yelling âfrank! stop blowing up my redstone!â frank is on the right side of the image, also using an off-screen computer, wearing a purple sweater and with an evil look on his face. end id.]

read a fic the other day that talked about Leoâs fire âeating at himâ and it makes sense . if you think about it . percy , he controls water , but not water he produces , water from around him . jason does the same with air . Leo doesnât control fire around him , he takes it from his own body and manipulates it . no WONDER he isnât all that great at using it in combat + has low stamina with it . he produces the flames , himself . Percy and Jason do half the work he does .

Piper holding Jason's hand n Rick Riordan writing "youre catching me too, superman" and then immediately writing "but I'm not holding your hand" to make it not sound gay
The way that exclusionists treat ace and aro people often reminds me of how the average person would treat me when I started being open as non-binary. Iâve said it once and Iâll say it a thousand times, we are not enemies. Our experiences do not oppose each other, they are intertwined. If youâre ace, if youâre aromantic, if youâre any variation thereupon; your home is here. You belong here, too. You are beautiful, and powerful; and you donât have to explain yourself to anyone. You are a valued part of this community.
