after some reflection on all the talk of gatekeeping taylor from the locals over the past few days, i think what the real impulse is to let anyone and everyone enjoy taylor swift the artist but to gatekeep taylor swift the person. like im happy to let anyone jump on the bandwagon of having good taste in music finally, but we as the long time loyal fandom have watched far too many things happen to taylor to trust fairweather fans. it really is just the feminine urge to protect her at all costs and preserve the artists/fans relationship we’ve spent 15 years building.

(this may also be part of the sadness of her gravitating more toward twitter and tiktok now, because the way tumblr works its kind of impossible to become “famous” on it so its a lot more level of a playing field and more community building than competitive, but I digress)

hiiiiii @taylorswift! i just wanted you to know that i’m sending you so many hugs and i hope that you & your family is hanging in there with all that’s going on in our world right now. thank you for being such a light in my life, as well as the lives of so many others. i love you so much💌caroline

taylor’s talent in songwriting has ruined my expectations/reality with songwriting like… she’s written some of her best stuff all by herself and then i’ll hear a song that’s kinda good and it has like 5 writers on it and it’s like… you needed 5 people to come up with these mediocre lyrics? when taylor swift thought of “my heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue, all’s well that ends well to end up with you”, “I’ll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep and I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe”, “long were the nights when my days once revolved around you” and so much more… just by herself?? y’all arent even trying…

Words can break someone into a million pieces, but they can also put them back together. I hope you use yours for good, because the only words you’ll regret more than the ones left unsaid are the ones you use to intentionally hurt someone. What you say might be too much for some people. Maybe it will come out all wrong and you’ll stutter and you’ll walk away embarrassed, wincing as you play it all back in your head. But I think the words you stop yourself from saying are the ones that will haunt you the longest. So say it to them. Or say it to yourself in the mirror. Say it in a letter you’ll never send or in a book millions might read someday. I think you deserve to look back on your life without a chorus of resounding voices saying ‘I could’ve, but it’s too late now.’ There is a time for silence. There is a time waiting your turn. But if you know how you feel, and you so clearly know what you need to say, you’ll know it. I don’t think you should wait. I think you should speak now.
