Drawing Giraffes Is Fun And Somehow Easier Than Others Animals. Because They Are So Long, The Amount

Working these days has been a little difficult for me. As I mentioned, I moved to live in Canada last week and for now, I don’t have a place to live. I’m staying in the house of a friend and I have spent most of my time getting used to the weather in Vancouver and looking for a house. So far so good. I like changes and I think that being uncomfortable, sometimes just shakes the routine away and forces you to try new things. In my life, I have lived in eight different places. Lowland Tapir This species is a little bit tricky. English books just recognize one species, while Spanish and Portuguese recognize four. Since the animal is from South America and most of the biologists who studied this animal are from there, I will believe their information has more credibility. Therefore, I will present four subspecies of Lowland Tapir. Let’s begin. Tapirus terrestris aenigmaticus From what I understood and what I have seen, this one coloration is darker. This might not be a parameter to identify the subspecies, since animals of the same species can present various colorations. However, its skull presents substantial differences.

This is a family I wanted to do for a long time but for many reasons I just never started. It is not easy to find a good image for reference of marine mammals because the photographs underwater aren't that sharp and also because the majority of the images never show the full body of the animal. Nonetheless, I have to use more than one picture to complete the whole animal, which is fun. Let's begin with a very beloved family that I'm sure we will be surprised by how little we might know about them.

Commerson's Dolphin

Is one of the smallest members of the Delphinidae family with no more than 1.5m lengths. It has a very striking and particular color pattern. The genus has two subspecies. The one in the illustration, C. c .commersonii, can be found on the coasts of South Argentina. The C. c .kerguelensis, is found in the Indian Ocean.

it has been displayed in a few aquariums and this subspecies used to be killed and used as bait to catch crabs in Chile and Argentina. This method however is nowadays been curtailed.

I made a mistake in my last post. I confused the Long-Beaked Common Dolphin species with its subspecies the Arabian Common Dolphin. They are so alike that I am actually surprised I was able to notice the difference. The Long Baked Common Dolphin's beak is notably shorter and its body is a little bit slimmer that the subspecies. Colorwise is not a good way to tell because the variations are plenty and both, species and subspecies can present these variations. As far as I know, the Arabian Common Dolphin can be elevated to a species. More studies need to be conducted but that is the indicator.

Long-Beaked Common Dolphin

The Long-Beaked Common Dolphin was once thought to be the same species as the Short-Beaked Dolphin, but recent research has confirmed that they are, in fact, distinct species. Unlike their short-beaked cousins, this species tends to stay closer to the coast.

While not as abundant as the Short-Beaked Dolphin (which is the most common dolphin species), the Long-Beaked Common Dolphin is not currently classified as threatened or endangered. Some scientists have suggested the existence of subspecies within this species, but only the Arabian Common Dolphin has been officially recognized.

Working on this one took me forever. I’m very happy with the result though because I wanted a pose that portrays the animal with majesty and power.

Bengal Tiger

If you ever saw a tiger, 90% of the chances are that you saw a Bengal Tiger. It is the most famous and probably the one that has inspired us the most. The versatility that the tiger has to propel the imagination of humans is unmeasurable. From a cruel villain to a magnificent god, its charisma and beauty have made us dream for centuries, and are now just part of the whole human culture, regardless of nationality.

It is also the popular white tiger which is nothing but a lack of melanin, the pigment in charge of giving us color. Less popular but equally magnificent and extremely rare is the golden tiger which can be seen just in captivity. A problem! if you ask me because this means that has been humanly altered genetically to get the color. There is also the black tiger, which is not completely black. Its black stripes are thicker making the orange color less visible. However, there are some reports stating that completely black tigers have been spotted in the wild. No photographs have been taken though.

Now it’s the time for the less glamorous horse’s cousins, the Ass. An animal that shockingly is doing way worst than horses in terms of conservation and yet this really have had to do the dirty job. While the horse is exhibit proudly as a man companion and sometimes an extension of human’s soul, the Ass, on the other hand is like the one that is better not to be shown and the one in charge of the hardest and dirtiest jobs. Incredibly this obvious disparagement is reflected as well in its quantity due that from the four subspecies that exist, one is extinct and the other two are close to suffer the same fate.

Nonetheless, ass as regarded as stupid animals and are usually portrayed as such, nonetheless is an animal that is close in intelligence to the horse, if not the same. Besides, they are excellent mothers and can defend their offspring furiously. An animal to keep an eye on, to care and value as another really important animal that was crucial in the evolution of humanity. More love for this misunderstood animals, please.

Nubian Wild Ass: Believed extinct in the wild, some estudies of DNA were done to a feral population living in the Caribbean island of Bonaire (Keep in mind that this animal is from Africa) The DNA results were positive as a nearly pure DNA of the believed extinct Actual Nubian Wild Ass. Although further studies need to be done, give a little of hope to the survival of this animal. Somali Wild Ass: The fate of this animal was saved by a project in the Zoo of Basel in Switzerland, that has been able to keep the captive animals in a robust number.

Atlas Wild Ass: Extinct in 300 AD, this animal was used in the roman circus and hunting. It is estrange that many animals with the name “Atlas” on it, has been extinct as we will see further.

The tayra, also known as the Eira barbara, is a fascinating member of the weasel family found in Central and South America's forests. Known for their agility and intelligence, tayras are adept climbers and hunters, often preying on birds, rodents, and even small mammals.

Originally, multiple subspecies were designated due to this adaptability, but now only two remain valid: the North American and the larger South American variant.

Its fur displays variations based on habitat, becoming denser in colder regions and lighter in deserts or warmer zones. While not classified among the big cat species, it shares the closest kinship with the cheetah.

Loved this one and read about it. Working on the illustration was very relaxing and came out nicely. While working on the head, I was getting slightly confused but in the end, it was all good. North-Eastern Black Rhinoceros. This subspecies is not hundred percent approved by all scientists. Some state that there are four subspecies. The most widely alternative schemes adopted five subspecies, while older ones suggest eight. At some point, it was thought to be 23. This subspecies is extinct. Its distribution consisted of Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Somalia, which apparently vanished by the early 20th century.
