Okay I Know You Wrote This A Year Ago But, Steve DID Become Captain America Because Of Bucky. He Became

okay I know you wrote this a year ago but, Steve DID become captain America because of Bucky. he became cap only when he saved the 107th and the reason he wanted to save the 107th is because he knew Bucky was in there. like I totally agree on not defining Steve or Bucky solely on each other, but facts are facts and Steve picking up the shield of Cap happened because he wanted to save Bucky

Look, you must know how much I adore Bucky if you’ve come at me on anon with this because you probably have seen at least a few *cough* posts on my blog about Bucky, but I’ll never see them in the (usually shippy) light of ‘they only ever do anything because of each other uwu” that a big majority of this fandom is so stuck on. (Whoa, what?? Cairi’s not in lockstep with a fandom??? So shocking.) Steve didn’t even know Bucky needed saving when he went through the serum experiment–he just wanted to join the Army despite Bucky, because it was the right thing to do and because his father died on the front lines. He too wanted to fight on the front lines and not do the little red wagon thing Bucky preferred him to do, both because of his father’s legacy and because he always had a fiesty fighting spirit twelve thousand times stronger than his frail li’l bod and so yeah, he may have been from Brooklyn but he lived in the state of Total Stubborn Denial.

But he finally found a crack in the 4F wall the Army erected in front of him and Steve became Captain America the moment he stepped out of that machine and had to chase after the HYDRA assassin. He became Captain America even before that when he threw himself on the dummy grenade and Bucky wasn’t even there. And when Phillips all but said he’d written the letter saying Bucky was KIA, Steve still wanted to save the rest of the 107th. So *maybe* we can at least agree that the Army didn’t recognize him as a combat-ready Captain America until he saved the 107th (and yay bonus Bucky was alive so he got saved too, because yes, Steve had to make sure, since he was already there rescuing the 107th). But to his own mind, far before that moment, Steve was already combat-ready and fully Captain America in the way that Dr. Erskine and Peggy intended for him to be… a fighting soldier, not just a dancing monkey in tights.

Steve has always been focused on what, to his mind, is the right thing to do… sometimes that involves Bucky and sometimes it doesn’t.

It’s amazing that some fictional characters can live their own life like that. In the hearts of real heroes. No stupid or cruel plot twists can change that.

Channeling his inner Captain America, cancer patient conquers toughest challenges
Landon Helff would spend every waking minute outdoors if he could, but he can’t.

@blessedharlot - a happy story to cheer both of us up. A young cancer patient beats his cancer using Captain America as his inspiration to never give up.

Channeling his love for Captain America helped Landon conquer his toughest challenges.

This is so true. I liked cacw but this is what really ruins it for me

but the entire first half of CA: the first avenger was showing steve's childhood and backstory.

(assuming this is a reply to this post)

By the time we see Steve in CATFA, he’s already an adult trying to enlist in the war. CATFA showed us a nice backstory of who Steve was (who he had grown to be at that point) before he had the serum, and who he turned into after it.

Captain America: Civil War did not show us:

- who Steve’s mother was, what she was like, what she looked like, if she influenced Steve at all, what memories he has of her, how old she was when she died, how she died, how exactly her death affected Steve

- who Steve’s father was, if he was in Steve’s life at all, if he was symbolic in any way, what his name was, how he died, if his death affected Steve at all

- what steve looked like as a little kid (omf baby steve can you imaGINE)

- why Steve believes the things he believes, how he grew to fight prejudice, if prejudice and assumptions were important things in his childhood- if they had any affect on his family or on him- the evolution of his character born both out of himself and out of his environment and the things that must have happened to him

Captain America: Civil War did show us:

- who Tony’s mother was, what she was like, what she looked like, that she influenced Tony, what memories he had of her, how old she was when she died, how she died, and how exactly her death affected Tony

- who Tony’s father was, that he was in Tony’s life, that he was symbolic, what his name was, how he died, and how exactly his death affected Tony

- what Tony looked like as a young adult

- and why he believe the things he believes, how he grew to fear attachment and resent himself, the things he did and saw in his youth that impacted him in his adult life, the evolution of his character born both out of himself and out of his environment and the things that did happen to him

Announcing Stony Loves Steve

image

To celebrate Steve’s birthday, July 4th, we created Stony Loves Steve, a Steve/Tony gift exchange where participants create and receive Steve-centric fanworks.

There are lots of wonderful creations based on Tony, which is understandable, Steve loves focusing on Tony too, but, for this exchange, we’re choosing to focus on Steve instead! We hope to see more works exploring his side of his relationship with Tony across the Marvel multiverse, whether that relationship is slash or friendship.

Sign-ups will open on May 1st and run until May 17th. Additional scheduling info here.

An AO3 account is necessary to participate as the exchange is run through the site. If you do not already have one, please request one ASAP as it may take some time for AO3 to send your invitation. You can do that here.

Don’t forget to check out our FAQ for rules and requirements!

It’s such a simple letter I’m amazed at the lack of comprehension from people. But really. Some think that it’s very selfish letter (whatever that means), some think that he blames Tony for everything in this letter or trying to make him feel guilty (???) and some even think that “Steve begs Tony to take him back” (wtf?). I have actually seen all those versions on tumblr and ao3.

+ a look at his parents and their relationship

+ a non-action/character driven scene to catch viewers up on what our hero has been doing

+ time given to his closest friendship, including a heartfelt/respectful scene at the end

things steve got in civil war:

+ none of that

raise your hand if you will never not be salty about the lack of development of a friendship between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark in the MCU
