About Zemo’s Vision. He Met Steve Earier And Much Closer In Germany And It’s A Reference To That

About Zemo’s vision. He met Steve earier and much closer in Germany and it’s a reference to that time. As for the phrase itself I thought it was not about eyes exactly (or not only about eyes) it was more about this difference between Steve Rogers and Captain America persona.

When I watched TWS I noticed one thing. When we see Cap’s painting in museum it’s so perfect in every way. What we see is a very beautiful angelic blond boy, so pure with those sky blue eyes directed upwards. It doesn’t have character. Because they didn’t want him to have personality. They wanted him to be a perfect symbol. They just made him a set of averaged “perfect“ (in someone’s opinion) characteristics in terms of his looks and personality. And Zemo just says that CapAm is a big lie if Steve Rogers is so real and imperfect as any mortal human.

PS I really hope I expressed my thoughts adequately because I’m not that good at English

The thing about "Steve stuck in the past re: Bucky/Peggy/life in general" is that, by itself, I think it's a valid writing choice. There are scenes that could support that interpretation, and it's a plausible way to add depth to Steve's character and create some conflict. But it's so often done in a "Steve should just get over himself" kind of way, rather than a "Steve is understandably struggling here" kind of way, which sucks.

Point. It’s presented as this unhealthy thing…almost a character flaw that Steve is ‘stuck in the past’. As if he’s an old man whining about the good old days and not someone who is grieving the destruction of his entire world. And it’s not just done in a way where “Steve should just get over himself” but also in a way that Steve being stuck in the past makes him toxic to Bucky/Tony/the team/ and he needs to get over himself because he’s hurting someone else. It’s never about what that grief is doing to him.

Sometimes I think the magnitude of Steve’s loss is what makes his trauma so completely incomprehensible to fandom while they sit and churn out overused childhood abuse tropes for Tony or Loki. Or it could just be the fact that Steve is a stoic character because Bucky’s trauma should also be absolutely incomprehensible but fandom sure manages to give a tonne of shits about it.

I don’t think I’ve seen an answer to the question of how close or far apart the things happening today (”send her back”, detention centers etc) are to the nazis quite as good or thorough as this answer on quora

favorite Steve moment? (you can do top five if necessary)

Oh maaaaan. Argh. So many to choose from!

MCU!Steve:

1. Jumping on the grenade. Steve diving on the grenade is the moment where you see that he doesn’t even need the serum to be Captain America – this guy is 100% hero, pint-sized or not. He doesn’t want to be a soldier for glory, or out of bloodthirst. He genuinely believes he has a duty to lay down his own life to save others, and reacts accordingly without any hesitation. This is honestly the moment I fell in love with this goober.

image

2. On va voir. Not only does this moment tell us Steve speaks French – and I love to headcanon that he picked up a whole smattering of European languages while fighting, but the spiky sex hair and the glower and everything just…. unf. (Look, I had to have at least one gratuitous sexy!Steve item in here.)

image

3. The Triskelion Speech. This is such a poignant and quintessentially Steve scene. He believes every word, and genuinely believes people will step up, but he is also fully aware of what he’s asking them for and the cost. He doesn’t do it lightly. And it’s Cap’s strength that in believing the best of people, he’s able to inspire people to bravery and courage, and bring it out in others – even when situations are at their most dire.

image

4. The elevator scene. The flipside of Steve believing in people so much, is that sometimes, they let him down. The moments leading up to this fight, when we see Steve assessing and realizing something isn’t right are great. We see how quick Steve is to detect the signs, put the pieces together, and realize what’s going on. His awareness and his ability to size up a situation are on display here – and then, it isn’t shock or rage on his face. It’s disappointment. But he grits his teeth and he deals with it and kicks ass – not because he enjoys it, but because that’s what he’s gotta do.

Favorite Steve Moment? (you Can Do Top Five If Necessary)

5. “I can do this all day.” The way it reiterates, over and over, kills me. Because if there’s one thing Steve does, it’s endure. Even when he’s getting his ass kicked, even when he’s down and out, even when his heart is breaking, Steve gets back up and keeps fighting. He always keeps fighting.

image

Honorary mention #1: Steve’s ridiculously extra fighting style, featuing, THROWING A FUCKING MOTORCYCLE, dropkicking the shield with a 6 foot high horizontal plank, pirouetting for days, JUMPING FROM GREAT HEIGHTS WITH NO PARACHUTE, STEVE, and generally doing shit that would give Evel Knievel a heart attack. Steve is so reserved and serious so often, that the sheer absurd extra-ness of his fighting style is absolutely hilarious to me.

image

Honorary mention #2: The friggin’ flagpole scene. STEVE IS A SMART LIL’ COOKIE. He thinks outside the box, problem solves, and isn’t dependent on his strength. Steve might have brawn, but he didn’t always, and he got by for most of his life on his wits alone.

image

And now, Comics!Steve:

1. You Always Stand Up. This might be a Sarah Rogers line, but it’s Steve’s ethos through and through, and such a heartbreaking moment that tells us everything we need to know about how Steve became the man he is.

image

2. “No, you move.” It’s iconic for a reason. This speech gives me chills and always will. Steve is accused of being stubborn, and he is, but not without reason. Steve isn’t stubborn for petulance or ego; Steve digs in his heels and squares off when it’s the important things – like the soul of a nation – on the line.

Favorite Steve Moment? (you Can Do Top Five If Necessary)

3. Those pages from Loose Nuke. Specifically, the exchange Steve has, where he talks about how his own parents were immigrants. They are particularly relevant in today’s climate. Steve isn’t here for discrimination, and he isn’t here for warmongering. “Isn’t that why we became soldiers? To fight for a peaceful world?”

Favorite Steve Moment? (you Can Do Top Five If Necessary)

4. That time Steve found an entire family squatting in his apartment and was totally chill about it and not only didn’t call the cops – he let them stay and helped them out. (Please read this whole post! It’s magical.)

Favorite Steve Moment? (you Can Do Top Five If Necessary)

5. That time Steve punched Nationalism right the fuck out. I hate when people assume, because of the name and the colors, that Cap is some hyper-patriotic jingoistic blowhard. Because nothing could be further from who he actually is. Steve will put America’s people and ideals ahead of her government and iconography every time.

Favorite Steve Moment? (you Can Do Top Five If Necessary)

Honorary mention: The newest issue of the Waid & Samnee run, because this is my Cap and he’s back:

Favorite Steve Moment? (you Can Do Top Five If Necessary)

I know this went way beyond one favorite, but… I just REALLY LOVE STEVE, YOU GUYS.

i’m still emotional that commander rogers canonically sat down one day to assess tony stark and on the “cons” section he didn’t list all those stereotypes (selfish! arrogant! self-absorbed! doesn’t play well with others!) no went right into the heart of the thing pretty much like “he’ll fuck himself up HARD when he’s too stressed” like i’m just?? help me he cares about tony so much i’m so emotional

Cassini Spacecraft: Top Discoveries

Our Cassini spacecraft has been exploring Saturn, its stunning rings and its strange and beautiful moons for more than a decade.

image

Having expended almost every bit of the rocket propellant it carried to Saturn, operators are deliberately plunging Cassini into the planet to ensure Saturn’s moons will remain pristine for future exploration – in particular, the ice-covered, ocean-bearing moon Enceladus, but also Titan, with its intriguing pre-biotic chemistry.

Let’s take a look back at some of Cassini’s top discoveries:

Titan

image

Under its shroud of haze, Saturn’s planet-sized moon Titan hides dunes, mountains of water ice and rivers and seas of liquid methane. Of the hundreds of moons in our solar system, Titan is the only one with a dense atmosphere and large liquid reservoirs on its surface, making it in some ways more like a terrestrial planet.

image

Both Earth and Titan have nitrogen-dominated atmospheres – over 95% nitrogen in Titan’s case. However, unlike Earth, Titan has very little oxygen; the rest of the atmosphere is mostly methane and traced amounts of other gases, including ethane.

image

There are three large seas, all located close to the moon’s north pole, surrounded by numerous smaller lakes in the northern hemisphere. Just one large lake has been found in the southern hemisphere.

Enceladus

image

The moon Enceladus conceals a global ocean of salty liquid water beneath its icy surface. Some of that water even shoots out into space, creating an immense plume!

image

For decades, scientists didn’t know why Enceladus was the brightest world in the solar system, or how it related to Saturn’s E ring. Cassini found that both the fresh coating on its surface, and icy material in the E ring originate from vents connected to a global subsurface saltwater ocean that might host hydrothermal vents.

image

With its global ocean, unique chemistry and internal heat, Enceladus has become a promising lead in our search for worlds where life could exist.

Iapetus

image

Saturn’s two-toned moon Iapetus gets its odd coloring from reddish dust in its orbital path that is swept up and lands on the leading face of the moon.

image

The most unique, and perhaps most remarkable feature discovered on Iapetus in Cassini images is a topographic ridge that coincides almost exactly with the geographic equator. The physical origin of the ridge has yet to be explained…

image

It is not yet year whether the ridge is a mountain belt that has folded upward, or an extensional crack in the surface through which material from inside Iapetus erupted onto the surface and accumulated locally.

Saturn’s Rings

image

Saturn’s rings are made of countless particles of ice and dust, which Saturn’s moons push and tug, creating gaps and waves.

image

Scientists have never before studied the size, temperature, composition and distribution of Saturn’s rings from Saturn obit. Cassini has captured extraordinary ring-moon interactions, observed the lowest ring-temperature ever recorded at Saturn, discovered that the moon Enceladus is the source for Saturn’s E ring, and viewed the rings at equinox when sunlight strikes the rings edge-on, revealing never-before-seen ring features and details.

image

Cassini also studied features in Saturn’s rings called “spokes,” which can be longer than the diameter of Earth. Scientists think they’re made of thin icy particles that are lifted by an electrostatic charge and only last a few hours.

Auroras

image

The powerful magnetic field that permeates Saturn is strange because it lines up with the planet’s poles. But just like Earth’s field, it all creates shimmering auroras.

image

Auroras on Saturn occur in a process similar to Earth’s northern and southern lights. Particles from the solar wind are channeled by Saturn’s magnetic field toward the planet’s poles, where they interact with electrically charged gas (plasma) in the upper atmosphere and emit light.

Turbulent Atmosphere

image

Saturn’s turbulent atmosphere churns with immense storms and a striking, six-sided jet stream near its north pole.

image

Saturn’s north and south poles are also each beautifully (and violently) decorated by a colossal swirling storm. Cassini got an up-close look at the north polar storm and scientists found that the storm’s eye was about 50 times wider than an Earth hurricane’s eye.

image

Unlike the Earth hurricanes that are driven by warm ocean waters, Saturn’s polar vortexes aren’t actually hurricanes. They’re hurricane-like though, and even contain lightning. Cassini’s instruments have ‘heard’ lightning ever since entering Saturn orbit in 2004, in the form of radio waves. But it wasn’t until 2009 that Cassini’s cameras captured images of Saturnian lighting for the first time.

image

Cassini scientists assembled a short video of it, the first video of lightning discharging on a planet other than Earth.

image

Cassini’s adventure will end soon because it’s almost out of fuel. So to avoid possibly ever contaminating moons like Enceladus or Titan, on Sept. 15 it will intentionally dive into Saturn’s atmosphere.

image

The spacecraft is expected to lose radio contact with Earth within about one to two minutes after beginning its decent into Saturn’s upper atmosphere. But on the way down, before contact is lost, eight of Cassini’s 12 science instruments will be operating! More details on the spacecraft’s final decent can be found HERE.
