when reaching out to fellow RPers about a potentially problematic author, actor, relevant public figure, etc. can we normalise providing proof. i say this because, if you decide to spread information that impacts someone's writing and creativity or chide someone for their choices, you need to remember:
not everyone is exposed to, or subscribed to, the same information outlets as you; this is a big, wide world after all.
people exist in different time zones, perhaps the news hasn't reached their respective country's news circuits. perhaps they're not even awake!
people exist in different countries. you never know if the outlet you know of is blocked in the country, you never know if this news is relevant to them. remember, we sometimes struggle to send youtube video links, let alone other things.
what is at the forefront of the news for you may not be the most important for others.
misinformation is rife, detrimental, and dangerous; as is miscommunication and misunderstanding.
the onus cannot be on the receiver to hunt down proof, sometimes they can't find it — possibly for the reasons listed in this post. if you reach out, unbidden and unsolicited, send your sources. not because you 'have to educate' them, but because (assumedly) you want to change their opinion/perspective from a genuine place.
and lastly: information accessibility isn't worldwide, and sometimes facts and opinions can become mixed.
and never, never look down on someone for not being aware of something that you are aware of !
