Once Batman has revealed his identity to the JL, after some strong encouragement from Superman and Wonder Woman, Bruce decides to try to start being a bit more "personable" with the rest of league. They've been colleagues for a decade and he trusts them all, and according to Clark and Diana this means there's no need for his whole mysterious "shadow of the night" bit, so he invites the league to dinner at the manor.
It is raining heavily, and even though it's not that late, it's nearly pitch dark but for the frequent lightning strikes. The league arrives together at Wayne Manor and the wrought iron gates stretch upward before them, ending in spikes at the top with ivy overgrown across them. They stand there, uncomfortable, wet, a bit weirded out, wondering how they're supposed to get passed the gates.
"This is creepy, right?" Hal says. "It's not just me?"
A voice. "Hello." As the league turns to the sound, thunder claps loud enough to startle everyone as lightning strikes, illuminating a small child standing on the other side of the gates that was definitely not there a second ago. He stands motionless under an umbrella, seemingly unbothered by the rain, expression vaguely irritated, and his eyes seem to flash green in the light. "I have been instructed to escort you inside."
The child doesn't move in any way but the gates slowly swing open, the creaking sounds sound straight out of a horror movie. Once they are fully opened, the boy turns and starts walking down the path without a word.
The league, some members quite freaked out at this point, follow him after exchanging some looks. They round a bend in the path and the manor comes into view. It is a massive dark structure, rising from the ground. Another lightning strike illuminates pointed spires, jagged edges, and it's gloomy, gothic nature. The sound of bats shrieking can be heard in the distance over the rain.
The league finally arrives at the front door, cold, wet, and thoroughly discomfited. An old man, a butler, looking out of time, opens the door, the child disappears inside. The butler welcomes everyone inside graciously but with a distant politeness. Despite the appearance of the exterior, the inside is well lit with warm light and seems inviting, though ostentatious. The league is relieved.
Until another massive lightning strike and thunder clap cuts the power off and the room is pitch black.
"Oh, you're here," a deep voice says from somewhere up above. No sooner are the words out than another lightning strike illuminates a dark, hulking figure on the staircase that was also definitely not there a second ago. At least two people scream.
Bruce is wildly confused as to why his guests are screaming, he didn't think any of them were afraid of the dark? The back up generator kicks on and the lights come back on and everybody seems to calm down. The rest of the dinner seems to go well (as well as a dinner can with the justice league and all of Bruce's kids) but strangely, to Bruce's confusion, it somehow only made his "spooky" reputation worse. He's not really sure why the whole league seems to think he lives in a haunted house.
I see your "Alfred is a Disney Princess" characterization and raise you "Walt Disney met Alfred and then based his princesses of HIM."
We can be friends.
That's a fucking fantastic raise, and I love it and am adopting it as a HC immediately.
I saw a post a long time ago saying that Dick gives Talia mother's day cards just to put mean things in them. This is how I imagined the first time going:
Dick: Talia
Talia: Richard
Dick: It is Mother's day
Talia: Yes it is?
Dick: Although I don't think of as my mother and Bruce and I are going to visit my real mother's grave later. I made you a card...so here.
Talia: You made me a card?
Dick: Yes
Talia *takes the card*: Well...uh thank you Richard this very unexpected
Talia *opens the card*: Oh. There it is
Dick: Yup!!
Talia: Well....I will cherish this card
Dick: Oh I bet you will!!!
I think Nightwing really kinda has a villain problem, I was thinking adaptations and which of his villains would make a good one in a movie and I got a few but not a lot actually that are just his.
Blockbuster is the first one that comes to mind that is his completely.
You could also take Deathstroke, he is a Titan's villain with a special interest for Dick and he has been an antagonist in his solo before.
He has other villains but they are not great, And would need to be remade for the movie to have more substance (Raptor could be a good one actually).
There are other options though: like take a Batman villain who he has a lot of history with and adapt that coughTwo-Facecough but I feel like Nightwing needs to be established and have that history with the world and the villain before they do that.
They could take one of the batman Rogue created during the DickBats period like Professor Pig or Flamengo. They did it in the comics when Damian came.
The suggestion I am going to make next is a controversial one...They could make the court of Owls... His instead of Batman ? I don't know how I feel about this one,I'm kinda torn because on one hand, I don't really like the Court of Owls in general as villains for reasons but I don't know, maybe it could be interesting in live-action and Dick is extremely important to the Court of Owl storyline in the comics and they are kinda as much his villains as Batman in the comics.
Maybe Owlman could be a Nightwing villain ? Considering the relationship he has with his Earth's Dick Grayson in the comics, the weird attachment he has to our Dick because of that and the parallel/contrast between Bruce and Thomas ?
thinking about deathsythe!zoro again...
kuina (weapon)'s frustration stemming from the idea that weapons need miesters to become deathsythe's (let's pretend Justin law doesn't exist) and that weapons have to live in submission to miesters by koshiro (miester, maybe his wife/her mom was a weapon...). so Zoro and Kuina's promise is to become the first independent deathsythe to prove that it is possible. and Zoro's 'my ambition means nothing is I can't protect my captain' moment is accepting Luffy as his miester and preforming their first soul resonance.
Trip talking to the group for the first time. But she only knows Japanese.
Sonic getting super excited to meet someone who speaks his native language, but being unable to talk to her because his selective mutism won't let him.
So he translates for her by signing. And Tails translates Sonic’s signing into English for everyone who hasn't learned the language yet. But it doesn't work the other way because Trip doesn't know ASL.
And it makes Sonic feel bad. Because if he could just talk to people, he could fully translate for her. But his stupid rebellious vocal chords refuse to work right.
Trip senses Sonic’s frustration. And suddenly there's a hand on his shoulder. Sonic looks up and Trip is smiling at him.
In a way, she understands.
little thingy from the other week, stuff on my mind
Au where Dick puts a tracking chip in his brothers necks because he grew up with Batman and thinks it’s normal. His siblings, freaks just like him, are a little disturbed but mostly trying to hold back tears because omg he cares so much!!!!!
I see alot of posts about Tim's missing spleen and the batfams reaction to it but has anyone considered the much funnier options of Bruce, being an invasive psycho dad, doing some scan of his children finding out about his missing spleen and getting it back/replicating a new one. Like
Tim *bored and wanting to get a rise out of bruce*: the only thing I've ever truly lost is my spleen
Bruce *sipping coffee and reading a case*: batcave freezer underneath the popsicles but above the ice packs
Tim: wha-!
Bruce: if you hit the chunk of Jason from the explosion you've gone too far
Thinking about an AU where Techno, Wilbur and Tommy are all the harbingers of the actual entire apocalypse and Phil (just some insane guy) decides that those are in fact his kids and starts gaslighting the absolute shit out of them about it.
Rambles under cut!
I wanna try something where they're just more insidious and passive killers than anything else, theyre mostly just biding their time and watching as wherever they're lingering around gets sicker and just starts withering away.
They're a slow moving threat that just can't be stopped and for some reason (because Kristin thinks its funny) Phil just isnt affected by them.
Phil: Oh Techno's always been like that ever since he was a baby Techno: I have literally never met you a day in my life Tommy: Idk man... you have always been like that Wilbur: Oh my death he's actually getting to us
Its a mix of that combined with that "how did he know I was a gemini" meme
Phil: Wil! I brought you some salmon, I know how much you love it! Wilbur: How the fuck did you know I like salmon Phil: I'm your dad silly, of course I'd know :-)
I just think itd be super fun since Phil in this au is literally just some insane dude. He literally lies about their entire childhood but does it so consistently and so realistically that it throws them off guard.
I also have a few ideas where they start referring to Phil as their dad in the beginning as a sarcastic / mocking thing but accidentally just getting themselves even more adopted as they do it.
Phil: Wilbur put on a coat Wilbur: I don't need one! Techno: Go on, Wil. Listen to dad Wilbur: Ugh fine. Only because dad wants it, though
Stranger: Whos this? Tommy: Oh thats our dad. He kinda just tags along Stranger: Aww thats so sweet! You got his nose and everything Tommy: I- wh- no he's not actually our da- Phil: I know he did! Isn't he the cutest, spitting image isnt he? Tommy: You're not my dad! Stranger: Oh someones embarrassed! Phil: Yeah he's going through a rebellious phase right now
Just a mixture of things like that where it starts as calling him it but then accidentally actually giving him parental authority along with that.
I also wanna explore how Kristin and Phils relationship would be like. Maybe her as death being very bemused by this silly human that just decided she was his wife one day.
She literally visits him in dreams and stuff and he just acts as if they're married and have been for years. He complains about their 'rambunctious kids' and how he has to threaten them with her so that they behave sometimes. She finds it so silly and just cant help but play pretend.
Kristin: Hello, human Phil: My love! Its been so long since I've seen you Kristin: We've never met Phil: Oh don't say that! It hasnt been that long. I've just been far too occupied with our boys to visit too much Kristin: Our boys? I made them Phil: And they came out beautiful! I'm so glad Wil and Tech got your eyes. I was hoping they would.
I think that'd be a core part of this AU as well. Everyone is playing pretend but then it just fuzzies and it all becomes real for them. At first its a joke that Phil is her husband and their father but then they get lost in the fantasy and fun of it all and actually accept him as such.
Phil has no ulterior motives either, he's literally just a strange insane man that heard stories about neotrio and started thinking they were his kids one day. He genuinely believes his delusion and they end up accidentally making it a reality.
He just makes lucky guesses and plausible lies often enough that he's still shiny and new, he's still fun to play with and thats what ends up 'tricking' them all.
