Want To Save The Bees And Eat Cheese?

Want to Save the Bees and eat cheese?

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s how to entertain ourselves within the safety of our own home. Recreating some social favorites isn’t always easy, but here’s one thing that is: a wine tasting. Pair some of your favorite wines with a homemade charcuterie board!

World's biggest rooftop greenhouse opens in Montreal
Building on a new hanging garden trend, a greenhouse atop a Montreal warehouse growing eggplants and tomatoes to meet demand for locally sourced foods has set a record as the largest in the world.

So this is cool and all, but honestly, the very last line of the article is what I found most interesting:

“What’s a little crazy,” he recalls, is that none of the founders “had grown a tomato in their life” before opening the business.

Something about that. Idk. I feel like there’s a lesson there about the future of technology and industry, but maybe I’m thinking too deeply into it

In honor of World Animal Day, the SNC is spotlighting our Eurasian Collared Dove, named Ginger. Ginger was rescued from a pet store that wanted to put him down because of his inability to stand up straight. When he came to the SNC, we found that he could stand perfectly when he was given a proper perching space.

Because Ginger is an exotic animal to Florida, we are not allowed to release him. Instead, he will live at the SNC with loving care takers as an Educational Ambassador.

Today The SNC Donated Dish And Appliance Sets To FLITE Center. FLITE’s Mission Is To “guide Those

Today the SNC donated dish and appliance sets to FLITE Center. FLITE’s mission is to “guide those aging out of foster care and other vulnerable youth for a successful transition to independence.”

The SNC is very happy we got the opportunity to give back to our community this way. Kids that have grown up through the foster care system are more vulnerable as they start their adult life and many of them do not have support systems to help them get started on the right foot.

Remember, as a community, there is no issue we can’t tackle together.

This Is A Reminder That Tortoises Can NOT Swim Like Other Turtles. If Tortoises Are Dropped In Water,

This is a reminder that tortoises can NOT swim like other turtles. If tortoises are dropped in water, they will drown. You can tell the difference between a swimming turtle and a tortoise by looking at their feet. Turtles will have webbed feet that help them swim, or flippers. Tortoises do not have webbed feet.

Art And Nature Go Hand-in-hand More Often Than People Think. Previous Artist In Residence, Jan Kolenda,

Art and nature go hand-in-hand more often than people think. Previous artist in residence, Jan Kolenda, came out to touch up our tortoise statue. This statue highlights some important tortoise features such as their leathery skin that is adapted to crawling across land, their dome shaped shells, and the scutes that make up their shell.

Fitz was rescued by the SNC a few years ago and is now one of our cutest educational animals.

Because he is not one of the two types of native wild rabbits found in Florida, he cannot be released. But don't worry, he gets plenty of love and care.

sawgrassnaturecenter - Sawgrass Nature Center
Sawgrass Nature Center

The Sawgrass Nature Center (SNC) is a nonprofit located in South Florida. Our mission is to educate the public about native wildlife and environmental stewardship. We also rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured, orphaned, or sick wildlife. Animals that cannot be released due to permanent injuries or disabilities are given a forever home on site with animal keepers that know how to properly care for them. We are able to operate due to donations from generous patrons. If you are interested in helping us further our mission, check us out at:  https://sawgrassnaturecenter.org/
