Ficlet: Untitled

So apparently my brain’s solution to ‘I have two sets of fic I should be working on and I don’t know which one to work on first,’ is 'start a new universe in my head.’ So. Er. Here, have a (fantasy, though that’s not explicitly delved into in this) AU, with F!France/England, F!France<-F!Canada->England. F!Canada is Madeline, and F!France is Marianne. I just randomly snagged vaguely relevant placenames out of history. …This would be a whole lot less angsty if it wasn’t from Madeline’s point of view. ;;;

It takes three weeks after her arrival from Gallia for The Lady Madeline Williams, the sole child and only remaining family of the Duke of Vesperia, Lord Matthew Williams, to realise she is totally, hopelessly and irrevocably in love with the heir to the throne of the kingdom of Wessex, His Royal Highness, Prince Arthur.

It is not lust – or, at the very least, not lust alone; Arthur is handsome, Madeline knows none will honestly deny that, but it is in an almost peculiar way. He has his family’s fairness and green eyes – and with them he had inherited a dark set of formidable eyebrows, half-hidden under a forever-mussed fringe, and a tendency to burn rather than tan under the summer sun. He is slim – but set next to other men it seems almost to the point of skinny – and though he is a mage, and people whisper he is fae-touched, his hands are not as lily-soft as the old tales say they should be. No, Arthur’s hands are calloused from both sword and bow, the man apparently being more skilled with the latter, though Madeline has not seen the prince display his talents for either. The flex of his thighs and arse is beautifully distracting when he is upon a horse – but he flares a violent red when he notices himself being watched, suddenly self-conscious, sharp-tongued and curling up into defensiveness.

The Counselors Are In

In which Steve and Tony from Avengers Assemble open a counseling service for all the Steves and Tonys across the multiverse. God knows they need it. To celebrate #10yearsofstevetony ♥

“But Tony, doesn’t it seem like meddling?” Steve chewed at the corner of his lip. “Maybe the other versions of us won’t want to listen to what we have to say.”

“We are pretty stubborn, I’m sure that’s true in every universe,” Tony said with a grin. “But I’ve seen some of the places they come from. Things are not good there. They need our help, Steve.”

Steve heart swelled at the care Tony had for everyone, even if they were from a different universe. “You’re right, honey. Come on then. Let’s do this.”

“Okay,” Tony called out, taking his hand, matching wedding bands sat atop each other. “Send the first pair in.”

“Have you two ever spent any time together outside of a mission?” Tony asked, eyeing them strangely.

“Uhh. There was that one time we got shawarma,” Grumpy Steve said.

“That was right after a mission and you were half asleep. That doesn’t count,” Grumpy Tony said snappishly.

“So you’ve never actually… hung out? As friends? Like, at all?” Tony asked, seeming genuinely perplexed.

“Well. When you put it like that, not really, no,” Grumpy Steve admitted.

“I think we may have discovered the root of your issues,” Steve said with a sigh. “Why not try talking to each other, for god’s sake?”

“Because he hates me,” both Grumpy Steve and Grumpy Tony wailed in unison.

“He really doesn’t,” Steve and Tony both said firmly.

Trying out a new thing this year in honor of my new year’s resolution to give more and to encourage others to read. Ficlet: The Little Fox

The new vampire, Honda Kiku, reforges some old bonds with a young and unusual friend. AU based on this picture, which has England and Japan swap their 2010 Hetaween outfits, and has England as a chibi. So, vampire!Kiku, and kitsune!Arthur.

        After the bite heals, after the long night of bloody pain when he Turns – after all that, and after coming to terms with the new fangs in his mouth and his new preternaturally keen senses, Honda Kiku hides under the covers on his futon for three days straight and does not move. He knows– he is (was) a well-read man and knows what he has become by the dreams and longings that run through his mind, by the fact he can smell the (hot fresh) blood pumping beneath the (vulnerable) skin of his servants as they go about their business in his home.

(Vampire, whisper the old tomes in his library, echoing the bite of Kiku’s fangs into his lips. Self-control – he is an honourable Japanese man, and he will have some self-control. Anything else is inconceivable. Anything else will make him go mad. Blood-drinker. Life-taker. Vampire.)

When the three days are done and Kiku has regained some of his rational thinking he sits up, pulls his blanket around his shoulders, and takes stock of all the things he will miss about being human.

The list is almost distressingly small.
