I cannot express the anger I experience being unable to do anything about anything while Christians salivate over the idea of the Israel-Hamas conflict being a sign of the Rapture

still mad that the pastor didn't answer my question about baptism mediums. like does baptism work in Dr. Pepper? Does it work in piss? Does it work in lava? What do you mean "I'm not taking it seriously" if this is a real thing then I should be able to do it in Dr. Pepper.

"Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us, only sky

...

Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too"

feeling empowered and actually having power are two very different things. women are usually offered the first one.

The other thing about discussing harmful things about the christian church and getting "that's not what that verse really means/that's not how that doctrine should be applied/that's not actually supported biblically/etc" back is that... at a certain point it doesn't matter. Yes there are varying beliefs within christianity (understatement with 45,000 different denominations lmao), but you don't get to claim that christianity is separate from any harmful beliefs when a lot of harmful beliefs are the majority.

You can say "the bible wasn't ever talking about gay relationships in [xyz] verses" but that doesn't make the average church actually safe and affirming for queer people. You can say "actually hell doesn't have any biblical backing" but that doesn't mean very much when like 75-80% of christians believe in hell. You can say "men and women are equal in the eyes of the Lord" but it doesn't erase the rampant misogyny in christian culture.

If the members make up the church, if members are the church, then at a certain point the cultural beliefs or majority beliefs have precedence over what was intended. You can't say "oh just ignore [belief/doctrine/interpretation/etc]" when that would be dismissing the church's most predominant collective beliefs. You don't get to just disregard harm because that "wasn't the intention". You don't get to look at the result of said harm and decide it doesn't matter because it makes you look bad.

Some Christians Always Forget About This. Just Because YOU Have The Freedom To Worship God/Jesus Doesn’t

Some Christians always forget about this. Just because YOU have the freedom to worship God/Jesus doesn’t mean you should push those beliefs on others who don’t want to follow Christianity or use Christianity as an excuse to create laws that restrict people from living their best life.

When I told my relatives that I’m an engineering major, they basically freaked out and nagged about how as a female, I shouldn’t pick something so “macho” and that I wouldn’t be able to handle the workload. The same thing happened to my female classmates.

More women in a STEM field leads people to label it as a 'soft science,' according to new research
When women make up more than 25% of graduate students in a discipline, men—and to a lesser extent women—become less interested in pursuing that discipline, and salaries tend to go down.

One factor that influences the use of the labels “soft science” or “hard science” is gender bias, according to recent research my colleagues and I conducted.

Women’s participation varies across STEM disciplines. While women have nearly reached gender parity in biomedical sciences, they still make up only about 18% of students receiving undergraduate degrees in computer science, for instance.

In a series of experiments, we varied the information study participants read about women’s representation in fields like chemistry, sociology and biomedical sciences. We then asked them to categorize these fields as either a “soft science” or a “hard science.”

Across studies, participants were consistently more likely to describe a discipline as a “soft science” when they’d been led to believe that proportionally more women worked in the field. Moreover, the “soft science” label led people to devalue these fields—describing them as less rigorous, less trustworthy and less deserving of federal research funding.

Me but mostly her roman equivalent, Juno.

In your opinion who is the most beautiful?

Aphrodite? Athena? Hera?

This is how Homeric wars people talk about for centuries get started I'm gonna pass lol.

But just saying if *I* was married to Hera, I'd be nice to her. I would love my divine peacock wife.

that case about that man drugging his wife, raping her and recruiting 72 men to rape her as well will always stick with me. 30% of men approached by the man offering to give them an opportunity to rape Gisèle turned him down, but 0% turned him in.

“natural protectors.” that’s what we’re supposed to believe men are. we are supposed to keep ourselves small and weak and helpless, perpetual damsels in distress, all so that some fictional big strong man can feel really good about himself if he protects us from a bad situation.

but if that’s true - if men really are biologically wired to feel a desire to protect people more physically vulnerable than them - how is it possible that you can get that many men to agree to rape a woman? how can the men who were approached to take part in it, but declined, not report him to the police?

how many of the men who took part in it have daughters, wives, sisters, mothers that they’ve hurt?

they get so fucking mad whenever we suggest we feel unsafe around them rather than protected, but they never have that same level of vitriol for the men who make it clear that they are our predators, not our protectors.

The thing is - in order for me to trust you as a religious person, I need to know that you support apostates of your faith. ALL apostates of your faith.

The ones who left because they faced spiritual abuse, the ones who left because they didn’t think the religion was true, and the ones who left because they simply didn’t like it. The ones who are open and angry about their religious abuse. The ones who still participate in cultural events and the ones who completely cut contact with the faith. The ones who left because their community was sexist, racist, homophobic, or transphobic. The ones who converted to a different religion and the ones who decided they would just rather assimilate and the ones who don’t give you a reason.

And when your reaction to an apostate, ESPECIALLY ones who left because of abuse and conservative communities, is stuff like “well, the people who hurt you weren’t REAL [X]s”, or “well, actually if you interpret this religion the RIGHT way (by joining MY community) then it’s totally not bigoted at all -” or “well you can’t let your bad experience taint a whole religion” or “you shouldn’t talk about your bad experience because it gives the rest of us a bad name” or “then I guess you never REALLY had faith” or “the idea that you can leave a faith in a meaningful way is a Western colonialist ideal” or “if you leave this faith then you are committing voluntary cultural genocide” - the last two of which are real things I saw real people say recently - then it’s very obvious you care more about protecting your religion and its power over its adherents than about caring for the individual people within it.

Nobody owes it to you to stay in your religion. And if you can’t 100%, wholeheartedly respect that, then I’m not going to trust you or your opinions about religion.

it's really weird having a first dog be blind and then getting a second who can see...like how was I supposed to be prepared for this.

this creature can perceive when I put the treats up on the high shelf. or when I hide stuff behind my back. I can't fool her!! she's always watching me and she shouldn't have this much knowledge!!!

I walk around at night and I shine my flash light directly into her eyes and I'll just be standing there staring at her weird blue orbs for like 5 seconds until I realize it's probably extremely annoying to her, because she has eyes!! I'll turn on the light in the room and she gruffs and grumbles like ?? oh right!! light wakes you up!! the fuck??
