A conversation I had with my friend while they were watching dbd ep 4:
My friend: (learning about Charles' backstory) oh god did that boy ever had a happy day in his life?
Me, meaning it with all of my heart: anyday that Edwin was there.
Me realizing a few moments later: oh wait in his life? So no.
Wayyyy later than what I expected to finish, I'm finally finished with my Payneland fencing fic! Thank you so much to everybody that offered themselves as my beta, I really appreciate that!
Relationships: Edwin Payne/Charles Rowland, Edwin Payne & Charles Rowland (the fic focus on their friendship specifically, the romance is just an ending bonus).
Rating: gen
Trigger warnings: blades/ fencing, dysfunctional gays, Charles that's so fucking gay you cannot say that to your platonic best friend,
Other stuff: fencer Edwin Payne, touch starved Charles & touch starved Edwin if you squint, love confession, hurt/comfort, eventual cuddling, teens being teens, slight miscommunication the first half of the fic, okay they're really miscommunicating at the start but it gets better don't worry!

Edwin and Charles' friendship come first before anything else, before any romantic feelings ever even started. This is why when shortly after Port Townsend when Charles is starting to act off and Edwin feels it's because of his confession affecting them, although Charles is denying the accusation, he confronts Charles to talk with him again the way they do things: He makes him fence with him.
And Charles can never tell Edwin no, is he? Or: Charles tried to isolate himself away from Edwin, Edwin couldn't let that stand. The boys being teenagers and fooling around fencing.
Based on my fencing history so I actually come with knowledge about that! I kinda took advantage of that for creating this fic.
I hope you'll like it! I really enjoyed writing it. Charles is my favourite out of them but damn fencer Edwin is ruining my brain.
Don't know what about you people but I'm a Charles Rowland he/they swag truther.
I feel like people forgot that redemption arc doesn't mean making the fans forgive the character.
Redemption arc is a process of a character actively trying to change their ways in order to redeem themselves from their past dids.
It's not just "I did bad things but I'm good now" (AHEM CATRA FROM SHE-RA).
If I killed a person but saved a life it does not compensate the life I took, I'm not "redeemed".
I LOVE good redemption stories but sometimes I feel like society forgot what redemption arc stands for. A lot of times it became to just making a bad character do good things so people will like/forgive them, not an actual redemption.
This was a suggestion from the @savethedeadboys account on TikTok!
If you have a Netflix account, go to this page:
When you get there you can just type your issue in as "Chat with a representative" and then press "Chat with us."
A chat box will pop up, just like if you were private messaging someone. They will ask what you need and again I just typed in "Chat with a representative."
After that, you will be connected to someone (for me it was less than 5 minutes) and asked what email your account is associated with and what you need help with. I said the following:
"Hello! I wanted to reach out and voice my displeasure and disappointment about Netflix's recent decision to cancel Dead Boy Detectives. I know that as a customer service representative, this is not your fault and you are not involved in these decisions, but I have been so heartbroken and angry that this show was canceled by Netflix with no justifiable reason. It seems to be a trend lately that Netflix does not care to complete stories that mainly focus on the experiences of queer people and people of color, which is a great injustice to the audiences that typically are looking to be represented in the media they consume and the diverse cast who put their all into creating a fantastic, nuanced show. If possible, I would greatly appreciate you passing this message along to let someone in management know my displeasure with this recent decision that could very well lead to me ending my relationship with the streamer in the future. Thank you!"
You can use what I said as a template, but obviously, adjust it to sound like you! My representative was lovely and I had this message typed beforehand, so literally it took me 5 minutes. You can even request a copy of the conversation (a transcript) to be sent to your email if you desire (I did, I have been keeping meticulous receipts of my work regarding saving this show so Netflix cannot have any plausible deniability, at least where I'm concerned).
Remember to BE KIND. Whoever you're talking to did not make this decision and they shouldn't be treated poorly because of it!
So now that Gwen Poole is out as aroace people are asking if it's still okay to ship Gwen and Quentin Quire since they already root for them because of west coast avengers.
For those of you who doesn't know, yes Gwenpool is now canonically aroace, We discovered it in Marvel Voices: Pride 2023 and in Love unlimited Gwenpool part 5 where she talks more about her identity.
Gwenpool wearing the aroace flag in marvel voices pride^
Gwen in her love unlimited series ^
And I just want to address one thing-
It's okay to ship Gwen with Quentin, as long you understand Gwen was never really interested in him.
From the beginning Gwen Said she picked him as her love interest because she thought she has a better chances of survival if she had a love interest.
If you ship them you need to understand - while Quentin may have actually loved her, it was more of an one sided love.
It's okay to ship them if you understand that Gwen didn't have real feelings for him and just used him.
It's not so crazy, I'm aroace myself and when I was young I faked crushes on boys because I thought that's what I'm supposed to do.
Especially for ADHD people there's a common phenomenon because we can get really excited meeting new people so it's hard for us to separate between romantic and platonic feeling.
Gwen talks about her feelings to Julia the feeling she thought were romantic at first but turned out she just really like her in another and she discovered she didn't really wanted a romantic relationship with her like she thought at first.
I loved Gwen and Quentin myself and I thought they were funny and dynamic, I just want to make things clear that while you can still ship them, she's only faking her feelings and using him as a tool,
If you still want to ship them under this terms it's fine, they can still have funny and interesting dynamic, but don't ship Gwen romantically because that's just an insult to the aroace community.
And happy soon pride month šš³ļøāš
I recently saw a post that said Charles doesnāt have anger issues, just trauma, and something about it rubbed me the wrong way. The point they were making was valid-ish, how anger isnāt the core part of his character and his anger comes from how messed up his childhood is, but the way they said it painted anger as this evil and vile thing, which is incredibly harmful to people who do struggle with it.
No, Charlesā trauma is not his core, but it does make up a large part of how he interacts with life (death). Anyone who has been through a lot of trauma will tell you that it colours every aspect of your life, and it takes time to work through it. Charlesā anger is not a bad thing, he should be allowed to be angry to let out everything he keeps inside, but that doesnāt mean he doesnāt struggle with that anger.
He grew up in a violent household, that affects someone. He has a complicated relationship with anger, and that means he pushes it down until he snaps. Thatās an anger issue. That doesnāt mean heās a bad person, heās probably the kindest person in the show (besides maybe Niko).
Anyway, I mean no hate to the person whose post I saw, I just felt the need to address it. Our society treats anger as if it is an evil trait (see Edwinās reaction. That was extreme, he says. Thatās how people view anger, and itās wrong), and to see Charles struggle with his anger issues but ultimately be such a good person is very gratifying for those of us that also struggle in similar ways. Maybe someone smarter than me can put it better, but I needed to get this out.
Charles Rowland has anger issues, and thatās okay
(GEORGE REXTREW REMEMBERED MY NAME WHAT??)
I love his answers of my questions. I love this characters so much I love everything about it.
Can the people of Tumblr try to use their obsessive internet skills and find the film he was talking about it was taken from?š
(Aaaaaaaaa he wished me a happy birthday! I'm literally mind blown by the fact he remembered my name, I have sent this a couple of days apart he probably gets so many requests I'm in shock people- George Rextrew remembered me- (jesus hold your autism together Skylie). I have literally sent it just today after I got my first cameo and got it an hour later when I was just preparing to post my first cameo on tumblr. This man is a fucking demon wtf).
I have put the last cameo I got on queue because I didn't want to post it all at once so it will also be posted soon! The one before that if you are curious.
Yes, Damian has a cow pet he saved from a slaughterhouse he named Batcow.
When he saw all the cruel things this place did to animals he decided that he's vegetarian and he's rescuing Batcow
(credit: Gabriel Picolo's official art from the tiktok account)
Do you think Alfred has that book for Damian?
I know Damian is vegetarian not vegan but still. Plus I'm pretty sure he drinks only batcow's milk to not abuse other animals so it could make sense.
A question that doesn't leave my head-
In Lazarus Planet Dark Fate Xanthe mentioned that Cass is the only bat in this side of town, "this" referring to Chinatown.
Did the Batfamily when dividing Gotham who-covers-what while patrolling just gave Cass Chinatown because she is Asian? Or did Cass chose it herself?
Not an Asian person here, but this is from what I know about Cass.
She didn't really grow up connected to her heritage and her people, I don't believe David, her white father, taught her anything about her heritage. So she might not feel that connected this place and her people. And she was only handed this part of town.
It makes sense to have an organized division of Gotham to cover for patrols where everyone is assigned their own part of town to cover. I can see it happening.
And I can see her choosing this place herself because looking at people who looks like her makes her feel belong, she chose this place herself to go away a little from everyone.
I'm just guessing.
I feel it would be funny if she was just assigned Chinatown because she's Asian, Bruce having no sensitivity about this type of thing and is just naively blunt, but I prefer the second explanation in story terms more.
