the hopeless romantic writer urge to write an orchestra kid x rock band kid fic bc I'm in an orchestra and there's this guy who is being kind to me so now I'm in love
In honour of national face mask day, according to a promotional spam email i got from L*sh hawking their overpriced hippy bs, Here’s a little master list of shit I’ve whipped up and tested on my very own face. I am perpetually broke and anxious about shopping in busy places, so I’ve applied my knowledge of medicinal herbs and foraging to DIY skincare with great success.
I have normal to dry skin that often gets sun and wind burnt, with some scarring, and plenty of bug bites from being outdoors so much so I’ve formulated them mostly to help with that.
This is basically just a rundown of some unexpected herbal ingredients and then a simple method of choosing which ones to blend for what purpose, the ins and outs of their specific preparation, and a few formulas that I swear by. I intend to add and edit this a few times over the season.
I just realized i never actually posted my fic here lmao

Hey! I just wanted to ask what kinds of brushes and watercolors you use for your drawings. I really like them! I’m also going to start to use watercolors to paint my traditional drawings. Could I have some tips as well?
Ok so this is a fairly long post. I tried to be reasonably thorough, and I talk about paint, brushes, and gave some tips, as well as linked some brilliant videos - hopefully that helped :)) feel free to ask for any clarifications though! /gen
Oh, I've accumulated a large amount of watercolours over the years. This is my currently most used palette, that i’ve assembled myself from different palettes throughout the years:
My first set of watercolours was a small Winsor & Newton set, which included these:
I then got this set of Kuretake for my birthday:
And I got some shiny ones from Creadu, though I'm not sure if they're available internationally:
As well as some singular pans also from Winsor & Newton:
Then there's a set i have from my parents. These are older than I am, and some aren't very useable, over all they're pretty good, I'd say. I have no idea what the brand is, though, or what brand would be closest to them, so that I could recommend it.
Regarding brushes, I’d say the more natural ones are simply incomparable to the cheap ones. I’d take 2 or even 1 good brush over a full set of those plastic ones anytime.
Here’s my full collection, though the plastic ones I use for gouache. They simply aren’t suitable for watercolours, regardless of how much scammy brands try to convince you.
And these are the ones I use fur watercolours:
You can get some soft, round brushes for relatively cheap - you just need to find a nice art shop. regarding size, I’d probably get a size 6 if you want to start off with just one brush, and sizes 5 and 10 if you can go for 2. though that of course depends on how large you want your pieces, ect - but I feel like that’d be a pretty universal choice. I personally mostly use a 6, then go in with a 4 to add details, and add washes to the bg mostly with a 10 - my pieces are usually between half of an A5 sheet of paper, and an A4 one, so that should give you an approximate idea of what you might want to go for. You need to keep in mind, that most brushes - even the bigger ones - will have a fine tip, when wet, so there really isn’t much of a need to buy anything below a 2, especially at the beginning - simply don’t push down too hard.
In regards to art itself - don’t use white watercolours the way you would with other paints. Watercolour painting is using the negative space a lot of the time - the white watercolour is never going to be as vibrant and bright as the paper itself, not to mention it won’t be able to cover up the darker colours in the first place, seeing how it’s quite a bit transparent, as watercolours are.
That being said, I highly recommend you use white gel pens! They can add a very lovely touch in general, not only in watercolours (you can see it in many of my pieces, seeing as I draw on a tinted paper a lot of the time). Personally, I recommend gelly rolls. I’ve bought a set of 3 a couple years ago, and they’re still working just fine. In my experience these are the only gel pens that actually work, though keep in mind I’m from Poland, so there might be something better over where you live.
With watercolours you neeed to start off with the lighter colours, and add more and more dark ones, making sure to leave the brightest spaces blank, and not paint over them. Be patient, wait for layers to dry, don’t rush it. Watch videos of how people paint with watercolours, observe, try to learn through imitation!
Aditionally, try not to use blatant, black paint. Try mixing a couple colours such as dark brown, dak blue, perhaps some red, a bit of yellow, ect - take your time time, and learn how your paint works, and how it mixes! Ultimately, you don’t really need black and white paints most of the time for watercolours, unlike in other kinds of paint.
this video by Emily Artful is honestly one of the best videos on that matter that I’ve watched
This video, as well as this video by Kasey Golden are also very helpful
I remember finding this video by Laovaan helpful as well
(for the record, all these three creators are brilliant artists that have helped me learn the medium quite a lot
I hope that was helpful, but again, if theres anything else I could help you with, feel free to ask me :)
And have fun!! Good luck, dear!! You’re gonna do great, I’m sure! :DD
Making hard copies of stuff is always a good idea!

*briiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing*
Where is the phone?
*briiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing*
It has to be somewhere here. I know I saw it just a moment ago.
*briiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing*
Did I take it somewhere else in the house-
*briiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing*
You shoved all of the papers off of your desk and found your phone at the very bottom. You smiled slightly as you saw the caller ID.
“Hello, husband.” You smiled as you answered.
“Hello, husband.” Your husband answered. “Was your phone in another room?”
“No, it was under a bunch of papers. I was, however, fully convinced I was hallucinating for a moment though.”
You smiled as your husband let out a small laugh at that. You really were lucky to be married to him.
“Well, I wanted to let you know that there has been a slight delay on set, so I’ll be getting home a little late. Do you want me to pick anything up on my way home?” He asked.
“There’s nothing I can think of right now, but I’ll text you if something comes up.” You smiled even though he couldn’t see you.
“Alright, I love you.”
“Love you too.” He ended the call and you threw your phone onto the couch of your home office. It was one of the days you didn’t have any classes, so you had stayed home all day researching. With a dramatic sigh, you picked up the papers you had put on the ground. Turning your laptop back on you got back to work on your thesis. It was an absolute pain in the ass, but you enjoyed the research and were determined.
It wasn’t until four hours later that you decided to take a break. You winced as the clock read 5:14. On the plus side, this meant that your husband would be getting home soon, so you could start making dinner and have it ready for him.
This gradually changed throughout your relationship. When you first moved in together right after university, you both worked vaguely the same hours, with the exception of when you were working shows. Now that your husband is considered a serious celebrity and spends most of his time on sets and you’ve started working on your PhD, your hours no longer synch up.
As you walked towards the kitchen you passed by the photos that line your wall. The photos are from trips the two of you’ve gone on, your anniversaries, and most importantly, your wedding. In every photo you’re both smiling and looking incredibly happy. It fills your heart with joy to see everytime you pass by.
Opening the fridge, you noticed that you had all the ingredients to make a very fancy pasta dish—maybe fancy isn’t the right word—a very full pasta dish with spinach and feta cheese. Putting some music on and getting down the necessary pots, you got to work.
After boiling the pasta and setting it aside, you started adding the butter, oil, and onions to a pan. You were frying them in the pan when the door opened. You smiled as your husband walked into the kitchen, obviously exhausted.
“Hi, love.” He said, draping himself in a hug behind you.
You laughed softly. “Hi. Long day?”
He made a sound of agreement and frustration as he buried his face into your neck. You brought your hand up to pat his head.
“I need to finish making food, love. I’m starving and I’m guessing you are too.”
Your husband sighed and slowly let go of you. He kissed you on the cheek and started emptying his pockets on the kitchen island.
“I’m going to shower quickly. I was talking to Mike in the woodshop before I left and I think there are a bunch of wood chips in my hair.”
You examined his hair, noting the small specs of wood sticking out. “How long did you spend in there?”
“It doesn’t matter how long I was there for. It’s contagious.” He smirked and then ran up stairs.
You laughed and shook your head.
By the time your husband was done showering and came downstairs, the food was plated and sitting at the table. He sat down and started eating like a starved man.
“This is delicious, darling.”
“I’m glad you like it. I wasn’t entirely sure how well the peppers would go with the feta, but it seems to have worked out.” You picked at your food as you talked. The peppers had been on the verge of going bad so you’d roasted them with the tomatoes and zucchini to make the tomato sauce for the pasta.
“It’s wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. You should do this again sometime. We could make a bunch of sauce and freeze it so that we always have some.”
You smiled and relaxed at the compliments. One of the best parts of your relationship was how comfortable he was with complimenting you. No matter how many times he said it, it never felt forced or stiffling.
“That might be a weekend thing.”
“Assuming there is no event I find out about last minute.”
You nodded and the two of you ate the rest of your meal in comfortable silence.
An hour later you found yourselves lying on the couch. More like you lying on the couch and your husband lying on top of you. It was honestly adorable. You couldn’t tell whether he was asleep or not, but you were unwilling to to pass up this opportunity for a cute photo. You took the photo in a way that made it so that you couldn’t tell who you were but could tell who your husband was.
Laughing to yourself, you opened your secret Instagram account. It wasn’t really a secret, so to say. No one knew that your husband was married, so you had created an Instagram account pretending to be a fan account to post funny pictures of him. Your account was not popular by any means, but that was what made it funny to you.
