Prompt #51

"Have you seen my black hoodie? I've searched for ages, now." The villain groaned, ruffling his hair. Frustrated. The hero hid a smile, as they realized which hoodie the other one was talking about.

"Oh yeah? What does it look like?" The hero questioned, faking an innocent expression.

"The one that has Spiderman on it." The villain responded, throwing himself in one of the couches and turning the TV on. The hero chuckled quietly.

"Hmm, I think I have it." The hero smiled, and the villain spun his head around to glare at him.

"You better give it back, you little shit. It's my comfort hoodie, for fuck's sake!" The villain cried. The hero surrendered.

"Sorry, sorry. If you want comfort, I can wear it and then we could cuddle. I'll give it back after that. How does that sound?" The hero asked, grinning. The villain blushed and then nodded bashfully.

Writing

Is really difficult. Give yourself a break every once in a while. I’ve been on break from starting writing my main wip for over a year, and I still procrastinate the hell out of it. Writing takes time. Let it happen on its own

I just wanna put it out there, that in mlm ships you don’t have to “feminise” or “twinkifise” them. They don’t have to have certain interests or traits — please stop copying and pasting every bottom in mlm relationships.

This isn’t targeted to a specific character but there is a few that come to mind.

This isn’t to hate or shame anyone who disagrees!! This is just a personal opinion of mine — and I want to see if anyone agrees.

Hello Tumbler!

As my first post ever, idk what to write.

My name is Keith. I go by they/he pronouns. I’m bisexual-polyamorous and am willing to answer questions on the matter! I enjoy educating people about myself. I’m a furry and a therian, too!

I love fanon/canon talk. I don’t get to do it often as most of my mutual’s aren’t in the same fandoms. As a writer I hope to use this platform to support my hobby. I love to role-play too, as it’s my favorite way to practice, so hit me up!

I’m also an animal stylist in training and am so excited to start fully working. I got my first client just a few days ago!

I can’t wait to see what this platform has to offer!

A year-end update on my original novel concept

Hey friends, it's been awhile since I've been able to put in any work on this! But I've been doing some world building and altering a few things, and thought it might be nice to send you an updated summary of my original novel. It is tentatively titled "The Pilgrimage", but who knows, that might change as well.

Alays Webster is a weaver in a small town on the edge of the Barrens in a country called Codor. Life in her hometown is pretty sedate, and more or less ruled by the country's religious hierarchy and its tenets, observing festivals and attending service and what have you. It is expected that everyone will go on pilgrimage to the capital at least once in their lifetimes, to witness miracles and see the Sleeping King himself, where he lies in state while battling in the spirit realm against false gods and keeping them out of Codor. Alays, though, was always a sickly child, and still has occasional bad days now that she's grown. So she’s put off making the pilgrimage until her childhood best friend, Vezian, now a priest, comes and cajoles her into making the journey with him.

The Barrens are a dead wasteland that surround Codor on all sides; as far as anyone knows, no one can live there, and the area is considered to be forsaken by everyone, even the Sleeping King. On her pilgrimage, Alays learns that her proximity to the Barrens causes others to look down on her, and she encounters concepts that she had never considered before, everything from how criminals are treated to “witches” and “demons”, from whose magic the Sleeping King's priests promise protection.

Alays's ill health improves the closer she gets to the capital, and this is touted as a miracle from the Sleeping King himself. It turns out, however, that Alays is sensitive to magical energies, and her health is improving because she is traveling through healthier land that has more magic available for her to draw from. Magic is secretly but strictly regulated by the priesthood, and anyone who tries to use it outside of their purview is labeled a witch, and sentenced to a terrible fate: either death, or “alteration” into Misbegotten monsters. Alays is now in terrible danger through no fault of her own.

Vezian’s mentor, Father Marcellus, explains this to Alays, and arranges for her to escape to the Barrens via airship, piloted by a man named Lucas. In my original version of this story, Lucas is a shady fellow who almost certainly can not be trusted, and Vezian is exiled along with Alays. In the updated 2023 version of this story, I want Alays to go to the Barrens alone, taken there by Lucas, while Vezian is left behind without even the first clue what could have happened to his childhood best friend. In that case, Vezian has to hunt for Alays himself, and learn a great deal about the secrets the upper echelons of the priesthood have been hiding from him. Though Vezian doesn’t know it yet, Lucas will be instrumental in helping him find Alays once more.

This is, incidentally, a plot that I write over and over again, no matter how hard I might try to to get away from it: “Character A is separated from Character B and they must reunite,” except that once they do reunite, Vezian discovers that Alays is dying, and with Lucas's help must go on a dangerous journey across the Barrens and into the unknown in order to save her life.

What follows is a tale of adventure, exile, betrayal, and trust, that tests not only their faith, but everything Lucas, Vezian, and Alays thought they ever knew. There will be magic, and gods, new lands not seen in centuries, and old tales not heard in just as long.

(My worldbuilding for this is extensive, and highly distracting. Now if only I could get the story itself to be half as interesting.)

I LOVE this take on my europa trench ice warfare larping

what if we were brothers in arms in the war torn landscape of europa and i held your bleeding wound as the blood stained the endless, blinding white tundra, your bated breath asking me to bury you back home and our last memory together was looking up to the swirling rings of color on jupiter. what then.

just read the tags of a fic and scrolled past it like it didn't give me 30 psychic damage and made me lose my faith in humanity

Just write something

When you first sit down to write, the hardest task you will face is actually starting.

To get yourself over this first hurdle, don't overthink it. Just write something. Literally anything.

Words on the page is sometimes all you need to get started.

I wanna get into writeblr (writblr? idfk) so here's an introduction

Hi my name is Mew I'm an aspiring author working to get my story kingdoms published in April 2024.

Kingdoms is planned to be a trilogy with possible spinoffs as well depending on my interest and if I can make stories about other characters.

Book 1 of Kingdoms is basically about how this demon, who was once living a peaceful life for a couple thousand years on the fictional planet of Ayuzuma suddenly gets attacked at his family reunion, and he goes off trying to figure out what sparked the attack. His search for answers mostly has to be forgotten in the wake of a war waged by Takahiro and Katherina, two well-known criminals in the land of Ayuzuma. Satan has to scramble to prevent Ayuzuma from being taken over before anything gets worse.

On the side I'm also working on a story in the vein of Percy Jackson, it's a five book series called Keiko Kuromiya, book 1 being The Cut-Faced Woman. The mc, Keiko Kuromiya is a irish-japanese girl who while learned the language and the alphabet wasn't that connected to her Japanese side. She's always known that her parents would move to Japan one day so her father could appease his parents but she didn't expect it'd be during spring break in the middle of her sophomore year. She meets a new friend but also a woman with a cut-faced, Kuchisake-Onna. While the better thing to do is to not tell her she's pretty or ugly and just avoid her, Keiko is curious and wants to investigate, but she'll learn there's more to her friend and Kuchisake-Onna.

Feel free to ask any questions about either of these!

So I have a question for any writers out there...

How do you write a workable story without the dimension of ‘place’?  What I mean more fully is. How can you write story from the point of view of omniscient beings, who exist and life in a place so devoid from any reality that it is effectively everywhere and nowhere at the same time. How to you tell / write a story about the actions and lives of these individuals from their perspective when they effectively are existing without the foundational concept of ‘place’? I know this is a hard / weird question but I really need to know so any answers would be deeply appreciated.

I've been making a series I hope to post on YouTube. I won't go into detail but y'know I think it's cool. Anyway it's really just a me and a few friends project. I'm writing the scripts and doing the animation (yes it's animated) while also voice acting like 14 characters. My friend is voice acting the rest and will be helping with the editing. Anyway that's just exposition for the funny part of the post.

My friend was asking me where as this was going and I vaguely described the season 1 ending to them. They asked for specifics and stuff and I was just sitting there like, "Mx. do you think I know the specifics? I'm as in the dark as you are! I start writing and shit happens. Until we get to the one scene that inspired my writing trip I do not know shit until I edit it! We'll find out together! :)"

So yeah that's my writing process, what's yours? It's probably less chaaotic is what I would say if I didn't know what writers are like.

Sometimes, we break through and create awesome stories by asking questions.

Other times, we get a breakthrough because we ask ourselves if we are asking the right questions. When it comes to pacing, this is one of those times.

Rethinking pacing

Pacing isn’t all about action. It’s about making sure that everything you write advances the story, even the quiet moments.

Instead of asking whether a scene is exciting, ask whether a scene is important.

Does it develop the plot?

Does it develop your characters?

If it does one of the above, then it's important and will fit into the pacing of your story. If it's important, that makes it interesting. If it's not important, it will be boring — and that's what pacing is all about.
