hotd s2e8 spoilers:

what an absolute master class in the character assassination of alicent hightower. in one scene they stripped her of all integrity, made her a coward, and a traitor to her king and family. what was the point, the point of anything of it.

alicent's character is arguably one of the most changed aspects of hotd from fire and blood and for what point. they tried to make her more sympathetic, less of a villain, and seemed to have only succeeded in destroying her loyalty and backbone.

edit: want to clarify that this has nothing to do with whether i think alicent did the right thing or not, it's that it's a complete betrayal of who she is as a character and an insult to what she personally upholds, especially in terms of fire and blood

There’s something so poetically evil about Sansa embodying everything the realm wants a proper lady to be and then them all hating her for it. She cares about knights and songs, sewing and pretty dresses. And she’s scorned for it, naïve little girl who isn’t equipped to deal with the horrors of life. Because they don’t prepare women for the horrors of life despite the fact that they have to live in the same reality as all of the terrible deeds. Sansa embodies everything a young lady is supposed to and it ruins her life. The same way women are meant to bear heirs but they don’t tell them beforehand how it happens. It’s this sick fetishization of an ideal of women that they can never truly achieve because life isn’t ideal. Sansa is the picture of what they want women to be and it can never be enough still.

i'm gonna lose it if hotd keeps trying to tie itself to the plot of got because it's never going to come to anything. the white walkers and song of ice and fire isn't for another 170ish years, please spend more time on the war that is currently happening and less trying to pander to dany fans.

I read it somewhere, but when they mention how a young man is highly appreciated by women it's a huge hint that it's HBO's way to tell us that the character will be gay.

And if it's true, now I'm afraid.

Considering how they handled Loras in GOT reducing almost all his scenes to his sexuality when actually he was soo much more than that, they're gonna do the same with Daeron.

Like, c'mon Hackondal and Mess, Daeron is described as Rhaegar Targaryen vibes even before Rhaegar Targaryen was a thing! But unlike religious zealot Rhaegar who cheated on his wife and caused a war because of an idiot prophecy, Daeron was Ned Stark's levels of loyalty. All his qualities will be reduced to... well, what he does when the lights go out.

But ofc they're gonna ruin him. I can see it coming, like winter. Oh well, what's one more character assassination in Team Green, right? *insert I'm tired boss meme here*

I feel like people don't get that these characters are complex and can do wrong. Like Rhaenyra having 3 bastards not the right move girly, or Aemond killing Luc, or Daemon always reaching for the crown, or Aegon being a drunk. Like they are more than those things.

A character can do good while still being evil, or do evil things while still being good. Like Luc took Aemonds eye and never got any consequences, doesn't mean Luc is a horrible person. Or how Alicent helped steel Rhaenyras throne, doesn't mean she's a bad person or doesn't deserve sympathy.

These characters are complex, cause they're people, I'm not a perfect person nor would I ever claim to be. People need to get that before trying to hide their favorite characters flaws in a dark closet.

here’s how Daeron can still win

alicent and gwayne's convo was the best scene in the episode. actually siblings talking, not speaking fancy lines at each other. and it's fairly long, not half-baked, consisting both of some chatter deepening the existing world and the important bits. it characterises gwayne, alicent and even daeron a bit. and it has emotion, tells something new about their relationship. that was delightful

i think the daeron talk between alicent and gwayne is my biggest win this episode

Of course they are going to blame Alicent for how Aegon and Aemond turned out to be, and say that is why Daeron is kind; completely ignoring that:

A.Helaena is also a sweetheart and

B.Viserys is also their parent, and he did little no nothing for these boys

At this point,the only reason I want S3 is because I really, really, really want to see who plays Daeron, see him in costume and interacting with the other characters. HOTD Casting team have always been great at their job, so I know I can trust them!

The only thing that’s keeping me from stopping watching the show is Daeron.The more they talk about him during the episodes,the more they mention his name,the way they said that he's kind and loyal,that he has a dragon and that he's ready to fight,are the only things that i care about.

This new season,for me,is slow and boring asf,i've lost the count of how many times i check how long the episodes are going to last because i can't take it anymore.Thankfully there are only two more to come out and then it's over.

That whole conversation between Alicent and Gwayne is so sad, but I just can’t move on from how Gwayne assures Alicent that she tried her best. Now I will not deny that Alicent has her faults as a mother, but she was also a mother at 15. After Otto left, she was alone, with only her children. Children who weren’t all hers because they were princes and princesses of the realm. Children who had to live knowing they came second to Rhaenyra, who had to live in a court that knew they came second. Alicent definitely had a hand in how her kids grew up, there is no denying that, but my goodness, they never stood a chance in the first place. Daeron was spared but at the cost of his family. He is kind, perhaps because he is more inclined to it, but also because he didn’t grow up in an environment that eats up kindness and gentleness.

This whole family is so messed up.

not the biggest alicent defender but everyone saying daeron's decent bc he wasn't raised by alicent, wb viserys??? those kids have two parents, wb their father??

alicent might not have been the best mother, but she truly loved her children and she did try (lowkey could have done better, but she was a child herself), viserys was so neglectful of his other kids that she was practically a single mother.

daeron didn't grow up seeing his father constantly choose his half sister over himself, he didn't spend his time thinking he's unworthy of his father's love, he didn't constantly have to witness an unhealthy relationship between his parents, and surely thats got to have an impact?

I suppose now the Greens' only dragon is Vaghar, and always has been. And his rider conveniently sabotages his own family from within.

Tessarion: conveniently made too small to be of any use when it's not supposed to be like that, and cherry on top, make his rider look like a Hightower, because that totally Alicent an hypocrite for whining about the Velaryon boys (who let's repeat, look like NEITHER of their parents or supposed relatives).

Meanwhile: give Rhaena an extra dragon, by omitting a character that serves to question whether Targaryens are really that special to be the ones who can claim exclusivity to the dragons.

so many people hate seeing Criston on screen but he’s a dick in such a totally normal way that it makes him hysterically funny in contrast to the living anime characters he hangs out with. He is literally just some guy having the exact same struggle with the false ideals of chivalry and knighthood and the inherent loss of the self that comes with being a tool of state violence as a thousand other knights in westeros but also he has to run errands with Sephiroth

btw i'm seeing some controversy and shitty behaviour in the asoiaf community regarding characters being depicted as not white and i'd like to make a statement. i think the hbo decision to depict the velaryons as black was cowardly. simply because they should've gone all the way and made the targs biracial to go along with it. they're right next to each other stop pretending daemon would be pasty white that man has melanin

I love them for Daemon’s weirwood vision holy shit he was lured from his bed to stand in front of the old gods, who judged him as a kinslayer and sentenced him to death. The consequences beating at his door and unable to be held back by a sword!!!

alicent realizing that viserys deathbed confession to make aegon king was a giant misunderstanding and now there's nothing she can do about it because her sons are out for blood and she has no power over them anymore. she's now doomed to be haunted by her own pre war decisions for the rest of her life
