5 Essential Tricks For Language Learners

5 essential tricks for language learners

Speak more often then read or write something.

If you can`t memorize a word or a phrase, a) sing it, b) shout it, c) pronounce it as the rudest swear word in your native language.

Read aloud the articles and essays you really love. In the beginning, our tongue will ache as fuck, but your pronunciation will really get better. Even if there`s no one near to point your mistakes.*

If you see a word with abstract meaning, immediately make a collocation with a “simple” noun. e. g. Instead of learning what “to accustom” means, learn something like “I accustomed myself not to cry because of the high taxes” or “I`ve never been accustomed to working hard and I`m not going to start”

Watch the useless and strange videos on YouTube in your target language. There are many advantages in the crap like “Get Ready With Me” or “What is in my back?” First of all, they all contain almost similar phrases and word collocations. Watch 5 GRWM-videos and you`ll know for sure how to say “Hi, guys!”, “make-up”, “lipstick”, “really good” etc. Secondly, vloggers typically talk as if their audience is full of idiots. They repeat the same phrases dozens of times. And that`s! Don`t hesitate to feel foolish for 5 or 10 minutes straight. Surprisingly, the most unintellectual content will make you more competent and actually intellectual.

*If you feel that you really need a responsible buddy for language practice, join the #tumblrexchange challenge. Introduce yourself, your goals and preferences, and let`s practice together!

Here`s the detailed post about the language exchange. And here`s my own introduction (I offer to help with Russian and seeking smb to practice advanced English with).

At the risk of sounding anti-intellectual, I think that college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields

Hey, if you’re broke like me and you can’t find good free resources on how to make/improve your art, I made a google drive of 22 different art books ranging from simple drawing books to specific mediums/subjects. I converted them all to PDFs because epub files suck lmao.

Here’s the link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-fyjLc8hKlP4KkLJix_R31bB8YHuKaUl?usp=sharing

The names are vague so google doesn’t snipe me on sight but the titles are in the PDF. There are some with ads and I’m not sure how that happened so sorry about that, you can just scroll past them. They’ve all been scanned and are virus free. Shoot me an ask if you have any problems.

Language learners 🗣

Lesson: Speaking/Listening

The language tips that I provide are usually in English/Spanish however, you can still apply your target language in the examples below because my language tips are for everyone and all levels. So, let’s end our introduction and start learning! This exercise focuses on your listening skills and helps you add more vocabulary to your vernacular. Remember to speak in your target language the same way you would speak in your native language which is with a strong, confident pronunciation.

Language Learners 🗣

The 4 techniques:

Can you understand people who speak in your target language and can they understand you? If you are having difficulties with your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills then follow this series to master your target language.

Speaking:

Language Learners 🗣

Confidence is key when you are learning a language, and I have noticed that many language learners lack confidence, as a result it affects the way they listen and speak with others. To end this, stop being too harsh on your language progress. You are doing an amazing job and it is quite noble that you are learning a language that is not your native language!

If you are verbally speaking with someone then they can totally understand you! Stop asking people if they can understand you. If someone cannot understand what you are saying then they will tell you. In addition, this could be a protection mechanism because of a lack of self-assurance. Do not allow this bad habit to recycle. You can end this cycle by speaking without thinking about the opinions of others.

Are you purposely sounding like a robot or mumbling? If you are speaking in this way then you look silly. You are attracting more energy towards your cringe speech compared to speaking regular.

Are you actually practicing your speaking skills? There are many people who are upset about their listening and speaking skills but they are not physically working on those skills. Have conversations with people in your native and target language.

If you have a limited vocabulary list then that is okay. You can still practice your speaking skills by reading out loud. If you do not know how to pronounce certain words correctly then learn the alphabet, accent marks, and diphthongs.

If your language partner is selfish and doesn’t allow you to practice your target language or correct your mistakes then find a new language partner, have a conversation with them to declare a common ground, or keep them as a friend and not a language partner. You are in charge of your life and you need to take charge of what is beneficial for you.

Listening:

Language Learners 🗣

Listen to people speak in your target language by either viewing movies, YouTube videos, television shows, commercials, and podcasts. The reason why I said “people” instead of “natives” is due to the individuals who speak your target language without being a native. Those individuals share a plethora of useful information, so give them a chance instead of judging their progression.

You need to practice your listening skills every day or at least a few times out of the week. If you are busy then change your phone’s language to your target language and create flash cards. You must practice your listening skills often in order to prevent listening difficulties.

The overthinking bug that rests in your head can influence you to translate a sentence in your target language word by word. In your native language, you do not do this.

Watch children shows and cartoons. Those shows and YouTube clips will allow you to listen to people speak slower and clearer unlike natives who are representing an older audience.

Red flags for Love Bombing:

The person doing it is someone you met recently (days, weeks, month ago), or they recently decided they want to get closer to you

They decide that you’re perfect (friend, relationship partner, peer, employee, student) before actually taking the time to get to know you

They talk about you as if you know each other for a long time, and make statements about you as if they’ve known you forever

They talk about plans they have for you; they’d love to be closer, travel together, live together, meet you more often, some will even talk about marriage or some kind of partnership early on even though you’ve only met recently

You get a LOT of positive attention from them, to the point where you don’t feel the need to get positive attention from anyone else, and you end up giving your full attention to them

You feel like this is the person you’ve been waiting for, someone who sees everything good in you, you consider them special and feel flattered and grateful to finally get the attention you lacked for all this time

They always seem to say the perfect things, drop perfect lines you’ve been waiting to hear, to the point where it can sound like a movie or very idealized version of reality

You feel intensely reassured about your worth, your appearance, your value, your actions, your pain, it causes a rapid change in your daily feelings about yourself

You enjoy your new perception of yourself, but it’s completely tied to this one person who created it for you, and you don’t feel special or interesting or important out of that relationship, your identity is now tied to what they feel about you

You get the sense of ‘this feels to good to be true’ but you dismiss it because you don’t want to be suspicious or anxious about one good thing that finally happened to you

Their promises get overwhelming to the point where it doesn’t seem like they could possibly deliver them but they give you a chance to indulge yourself in daydreaming and wishful thinking and you hold onto that

You feel tied not only to this person, but to the future they’re promising, and even if you don’t know them for a very long time, you feel intensely about wanting to keep them in your life, do anything to not lose them and to keep the relationship as is

If you believe in soulmates, twin souls, or any new age spirituality, this person will feel like your destined one, or they might even suggest it themselves, that they were sent by an entity to 'fulfill you’ or 'destined for you’

Your life changed from how it normally was to the point where you feel like you have a life 'before’ and 'after you’ve met them’, you even kind forget who you were before them, as you find it’s painful and lonely life you don’t want to go back to

With time, you get anxious about their perspective of you changing, because it would shatter everything good you’ve started to think about yourself because of them

It’s very hard for you to think about them critically or in a negative way

If they started thinking badly of you or started mistreating you, your heart would break

Love bombing is a manipulative tactic of getting someone attached and dependent as quick as possible, and it’s done with over-the-top attention and affirmations, future faking, mirroring, and creating an idealized version of you without actually getting to know or understand you. The promises, feelings, gestures, imagined future and compliments are not real, they’re there so you would be invested enough to ignore any other red flags, to forget to context of the relationship, to bond to the point of not leaving even if it develops into abuse.

If you’ve fallen for it, do not feel guilty; this is designed to get your defenses down and to make you feel fulfilled to the point where your reasoning turns to mush and you grasp that break from being devalued and neglected all of the time like it’s a lifeline. It’s often impossible to resist the strong emotions and relief at being offered, however fake, positive attention. Previous victims of abuse, neglected children, mentally ill, autistic, or in any way vulnerable members of society are very susceptible to this, because they’re often the ones starved for attention and will not question the kind of attention they get because they need it too badly. Whoever uses this tactic is aware of this, and is ready to dangle affection in front of you in order to trap you into abuse. You are not responsible for falling for it, doing this to you is criminal. This is what a start of an abusive relationship looks like.

The discovery of fossilized human footprints in White Sands New Mexico dating to 23,000 years ago is revolutionary for a lot of reasons and one really important one is that it thoroughly obliterates the settler colonial notion that the indigenous peoples of the America’s never had extensive contact with horses prior to the introduction of domesticated feral populations descended from the horses that came over with the Spanish in the 1400′s. It’s currently believed that horses went extinct in North America between 12,000 and 11,000 years ago which gives us an at least ten thousand year window where humans and horses coexisted in North America.

Sorry if you've been asked stuff like this before, but do you use any special kind of brush for your art? Your lines always look so clean and smooth 🤩

Don't apologize, this isn't a question I get often! t's not a custom made brush or anything, I actually got it from the clip studio assets store and it's called Dubyupen! (https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1815271)

Here are my current settings for it as well if anyone's interested ♡

My Digital book library

Hey so I have made a google drive with a bunch of books in it. Right now it is view only, but you should be able to download the books onto your computer. All I ask is don’t “link to” your own google drive cuz then i think it actually moves stuff and I spent a long time setting this up. Thanks.
