Does anybody have any idea what this might be? Found in a shop in the UK, probably pinned up by a customer. I’m more confused and scared than anything, lol.

HELLO AUTISM COMMUNITY!
I’m sorry, but I’ve gotta rant. The other day I was in New York, and I saw this billboard:
Look a little closer:
Yep, you’re seeing this right. Autism Speaks. On a billboard with Julia. Sesame Street has joined forces with our “pals” (and by pals I mean enemies that we wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole) over at Autism Speaks. Julia, a character who has been embraced and loved by the autism community, is now the face of Autism Speaks, an organization that has hurt our community more than it has helped. I am heartbroken. This character has made me, as an autistic person, so happy and gave me hope that autism is starting to become more accepted by society. And although I don’t speak for everyone in the autism community, I know that there are many people who felt the same way. But now that this character is the face of an ableist movement which pushes the idea that autism is a disease in need of a cure, that hope is gone. PLEASE reblog this to get the word out, whether you’re on the autism spectrum or not.
Welcome to Tumblr.
the whole “mermaids are all colourful and friendly and wear seashells as clothes and collect sparkly things and sing to the fish” is definitely appealing, 10/10, but let’s be realistic for a sec.
the ocean is scary as shit.
as humans, we have only explored about 5% of the ocean. meaning, we have seen very, very little of what lives in the ocean.
in that mere 5% we know about, while we have found some awesome stuff (coral reefs, starfish, dolphins, fish that glow!!!), we have found some absolute fucking monsters. huge sharks, giant squids, eels, some pretty freaky fish, the list goes on.
so, let’s be realistic.
you’re gonna look me in the eyes and tell me that all mermaids are dainty little figures with brightly coloured tails, long, flowing hair, big blue eyes and perfect white teeth? no. way.
show me the mermaids that live in the deepest parts of the ocean, of places man has never, and will never, get to. show me mermaids who hunt in packs, who don’t sing, but rather shrill and screech, or are so silent that you don’t notice them until it’s too late. show me the mermaids with grey, silver, multicolour, scaly skin and eyes that glow yellow in the dark and teeth that make great whites look friendly. show me the mermaids with coral and plankton and barnacles growing on their skin, with kelp in their hair.
give me mermaids who can camouflage into their enviorment, who can shoot ink, who can electrocute unsuspecting prey. give me giant mermaids with tails like eels or like jellyfish or like sharks, that will kill anything they see, that can cause tsunamis with a wave of their hands. give me mermaids who are ripped, with no hair, with fangs. give me mermaids with armour similar to crabs, with flesh harder than rock, with nails like talons. give me mermaids that have hidden themselves away from man in the furthest reaches of the depths, who have slowly evolved to look more monster than girl.
bring me the mermaids that no one wants to acknowledge, the ones that fuel nightmares and folk tales and urban legends.
bring me the diversity, the reality, of the ocean into mermaids.
Throwback to Danneel’s post about her first episode!
We to live in a great fantasy land? A hidden hollow in a tree? An underground city? Perhaps, if real estate is good. So lets go top to bottom.
This is where the royals usually live. This style is less medieval and more Enlightenment chic. Royals can live in castles of course but if they are fashionable they have a palace.
Castles are not exactly the most cosy place to live. They are built for defense rather than comfort. Castles can be inhabited by royals and nobles.
These are great houses seen more often around modern times. These houses are usually surrounded by great parkland for hunting. Nobles usually inhabit them.
A house in a fantasy setting usually refers to a double storey home. Owned by the well to do common folk.
A small one storey home in the county.
The real bottom of the property market. Made from sticks, shit or peat, this home is usually a single room and usually shared by the livestock on a bad winter.
Right. I feel incredibly awkward doing this, but Tumblr - I need writing advice.
Basically, I’m writing a story, and one of my characters is blind in one eye. I recognise that life with partial blindness is different to fully sighted life. However, I’m fully sighted, and I don’t want to accidentally make mistakes or offend anybody. So... I have some questions. If anybody with knowledge about any of this can answer anything, or throw in extra info, that would be great!
First off, a little background about my character. He was born fully sighted, but got into a fight at 16, and got stabbed in his left eye. He survived the attack, but even with heavy surgery, he wound up blind in his left eye, whilst his right eye can see perfectly well. He’s now 19 years old, and has a job as a hacker/computer specialist/hacktivist. Now, for the questions!
1: Is there any way that being partially blind heavily affects day-to-day life? I know that depth perception would be heavily impaired or completely gone, because of biology, but I have a feeling that there’s more to it, and it’s different from full blindness/impaired eyesight in both eyes. So, I’m just checking on this.
2: Would any adjustments have to be made to living spaces to accommodate him? (He currently lives on the road/out of his car, if that affects anything. On the same note, could he actually drive? Because of the depth perception.)
3: Are there any other effects that partial blindness has on one’s life that I might be overlooking? Like, emotional effects, mental wellbeing, etc etc.
4: Would it be an effective idea for me to buy an eyepatch and cover my left eye with it for one or two weeks, or is that incredibly offensive and not a good idea? I might edit or follow up on this post with more questions in the future if more arise. Please tell me if I’ve been offensive here, or made mistakes with phrasing, tags, anything! I don’t want to accidentally be rude! Thanks in advance for any advice people might be able to give. :)
I present to you two very similar beans who deserve better, being 184529367% done with their friends’ talking, in a very similar fashion
Dean Winchester 12.07 / Tony Stark CA:CW
So like imagine Torchwood but in 2018 where the team like to make memes of each alien they find and see who can make the best one.
Or the team bringing Jack along with them to a pride parade because he’d never been to one before as they never had them in the 51st century. (Plus decorating the hub with bisexual flags during pride month!)
Tosh and Ianto creating an alien spotting website whilst they’re drunk but the pictures are dubbed ‘too realistic’ and no one believes them.
Owen sometimes texting the Torchwood group chat in entirely emojis just because he can and because Tosh secretly finds it cute.
Tosh and Ianto having multiple conversations on different message apps whilst still managing to get work done to the others dismay.
‘Torchwood outside the government, beyond the police and without decent signal seriously who thought an underground base was a good idea?’
The team actually communicating and opening up with each other so they can work better together and get to know each other as friends not just work colleagues!!!
Gwen coming up with the ship names Janto and Towen and always trying to set them up together so she can finally take them all on a triple date with her and Rhys.
POSITIVE BISEXUAL REPRESENTATION WHERE THEY ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THEIR SEXUALITIES 💗💜💙
Owen having a secret Instagram page for all his plants because they’re his children and they all have names and deserve love too!
I just miss Torchwood :(
It’s so sad but so fitting
