It’s so sad but so fitting
So, I want to watch the first two Alien movies with some friends who aren’t as used to horror as I am, and I’m looking for some ways to make it less scary. Do the faceless internet strangers of Tumblr have any suggestions?

I do. I think he deserves it. Like really.
the whole “mermaids are all colourful and friendly and wear seashells as clothes and collect sparkly things and sing to the fish” is definitely appealing, 10/10, but let’s be realistic for a sec.
the ocean is scary as shit.
as humans, we have only explored about 5% of the ocean. meaning, we have seen very, very little of what lives in the ocean.
in that mere 5% we know about, while we have found some awesome stuff (coral reefs, starfish, dolphins, fish that glow!!!), we have found some absolute fucking monsters. huge sharks, giant squids, eels, some pretty freaky fish, the list goes on.
so, let’s be realistic.
you’re gonna look me in the eyes and tell me that all mermaids are dainty little figures with brightly coloured tails, long, flowing hair, big blue eyes and perfect white teeth? no. way.
show me the mermaids that live in the deepest parts of the ocean, of places man has never, and will never, get to. show me mermaids who hunt in packs, who don’t sing, but rather shrill and screech, or are so silent that you don’t notice them until it’s too late. show me the mermaids with grey, silver, multicolour, scaly skin and eyes that glow yellow in the dark and teeth that make great whites look friendly. show me the mermaids with coral and plankton and barnacles growing on their skin, with kelp in their hair.
give me mermaids who can camouflage into their enviorment, who can shoot ink, who can electrocute unsuspecting prey. give me giant mermaids with tails like eels or like jellyfish or like sharks, that will kill anything they see, that can cause tsunamis with a wave of their hands. give me mermaids who are ripped, with no hair, with fangs. give me mermaids with armour similar to crabs, with flesh harder than rock, with nails like talons. give me mermaids that have hidden themselves away from man in the furthest reaches of the depths, who have slowly evolved to look more monster than girl.
bring me the mermaids that no one wants to acknowledge, the ones that fuel nightmares and folk tales and urban legends.
bring me the diversity, the reality, of the ocean into mermaids.
Can confirm. I'm 15 now, and was sexually abused by a 17-year-old for three months when I was 14. I was groomed to trust him over my own parents since I was 12, and then he asked me for 18+ roleplay. Then nudes. It was only a few months, but I'm legitimately scarred. The one-year anniversary of getting the fuck away from him is tomorrow (22nd August). I'm so lucky that I realised it was wrong and there was somebody I trusted and loved more than him.
please do not accuse 15 yr olds of being pedophilia apologists. theyre misguided children. if an adult is spouting pedophilia apologism they are a danger and should be attacked, but if a child is then they are IN danger of becoming a victim, and need to be informed for their own safety.
I can’t even put into words how upset I am about this. Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation has been open for almost twenty years, and is the only place in North Texas that takes in literally any type of bird if it’s been injured, orphaned, or otherwise incapacitated. They’re finally out of funds, and if they can’t come up with anything by April 2nd, they’re going to be forced to close their doors.
They’ve never turned away birds. Not when it’s a surprise 200 baby cattle egrets that’ve been orphaned because city planners thought they could cut down their homes and no one would notice. Not when it’s raptors with one good eye and in need of seven different antibiotics. Not even when it’s ducks that irresponsible parents won’t let their kids keep after easter. This is where anyone let me first get up close to birds. I mean, I’ve known I wanted to work with birds and wildlife since I was seven- I’m twenty four now, and halfway through an environmental science master’s and it’s a big reason I kept going.
I’ve been going to this place on and off for ten years, I was THIRTEEN when I started volunteering and seeing all the terrible things that happen to the birds that come in. Not just…hit by trucks, or caught in a hailstorm but parrots that have been left in foreclosed houses for weeks, and roosters that have come out of cock fighting rings and would otherwise be put down because the SPCA and humane societies don’t think they’re salvageable. There’s an emu that was raised there as a baby because no one wanted her. Her name’s Riley and I can’t even begin to comprehend what shutting the doors to the center would mean?
They don’t get government aid. They’ve been funded by the public donating and Kathy, the lady who owns the place, going through her retirement funds and savings and her social security to keep it running. She’s finally run out of money. Please, just reblog? Even if you can’t donate anything- and I know it’s a lot to ask for poor teenage/college kids to donate money that they don’t have, or struggling artists I know but maybe someone who can spare something will see it eventually? They need $200,000 to keep open for a year to continue to help 4000 birds a year.
