“People are inherently terrible” no!!! Have you ever seen a child wait for their friend while they tie their shoelaces? Have you ever known someone who would bring hurt squirrels and rabbits and mice to the nearest vet just so it doesn’t suffer? Have you seen someone grieve? Have you ever read something that hit your heart like a freight train? Have you looked at the stars and felt an unexplainable joy? Have you ever baked bread? Have you shared a meal with a friend? Have you not seen it? All the love? All the good? I know it’s hard to see sometimes, I know there’s pain everywhere. But look, there’s a child helping another up after a hard fall. Look, there’s someone giving their umbrella to a stranger. Look, there’s someone admiring the spring flowers. Look, there’s good, there’s good, there’s good. Look!!!!

romione fic list

because it’s hard to find good ones

disclaimer, these are mostly all on ao3. this will be updated every now and then and open for suggestions !!! if you have any suggestions please reblog with them. this is an ongoing list that i will be adding to whenever i find something that i like enough to rec.

list below the cut, just so people who aren’t on my account or in the tags for this don’t have to see it.

rec list

the reasons by incalculablepower

— RATED T: background harry/ginny, past lavender/ron, a tad of inappropriate humor at the end, takes place at the end of sixth year or half-blood prince

SUMMARY: “As the school year comes to an end, it's time to reflect on the one that's passed and prepare for the next year. And with their two best friends otherwise occupied (that is, snogging all over the castle), that means a lot of quality time spent together...”

resistance of the mind by tuesday_piracy

— RATED G: background harry/ginny, current lavender/ron, pining hermione, black hermione, black lavender, takes place during christmastime sixth year or half-blood prince

SUMMARY: “Hogwarts is hosting a Winter Solstice Ball for their older students, and naturally, Ron and Lavender plan on attending together. However, as the night of the Ball arises, Ron is racked with familiar concerns over his attire, his looks, and his hair. So, naturally, he turns to Hermione, and she can't help but aid him. — Or: Hermione gives Ron a haircut. Absolutely nothing (something) happens.

anywhere with you by kieunlocked

— RATED G: takes place during deathly hallows during the horcrux hunt before ron leaves, discussing where they would rather be then in a damp tent in the middle of nowhere

“One-Shot of Ron and Hermione talking about places they’d rather be than the cold, miserable tent during the Horcrux Hunt. / “Though, to be honest I might rather be in the Potions dungeon right now than in this bloody cold tent any longer,” Hermione groaned, wrapping her arms around herself. / “Not the Potions dungeon, Hermione!” Ron said with mock disgust, slinging an arm around her easily, effortlessly. As if he’d done it a million times. And when Hermione thought about it, he really had been doing it quite a bit lately.”

don’t talk (put your head on my shoulder) by sarahxxxlovey

— RATED T: shell cottage, pre relationship, aftermath of torture, missing scene, takes place during deathly hallows

““I don’t know what I would’ve done if—” Ron said in an uncharacteristically tender voice, pulling away slightly to cover her cheeks with large hands, tears dripping down his nose. “I couldn’t— I thought I was going to lose my mind.” / “Me too,” she said, swallowing and nodding, looking up at him. “I didn’t think I could take it… I—” / Words failed her. She broke down into sobs again. / “Hermione,” he said, his voice cracking, kissing her wet cheek quickly before hugging her even tighter. “I’m just so glad you're okay.””

let the golden age begin by incalculablepower

— RATED T: missing scene, during lavender/ron, during apparation testing, maybe a tad and i mean tad bit of emotional cheating, as in people mistake them for boyfriend and girlfriend and neither of them make corrections, half-blood prince, sixth year

“A couple of awkward moments in a still-healing friendship. Half-Blood Prince missing moment.”

funny little frog in my throat by anonymous

RATED T — pining, specifically pining ron, fluff and humor, idiots in love, my personal all time favorite, they’re still magical but no war au

“Ron loves Hermione. It's an ugly business, he's very upset about it, but he loves her and that seems to be the axis on which his world turns.”

self recs

meet me in the woods

— RATED T: secret dating au, starts at the end of sixth year and runs until the shell cottage scene in deathly hallows, written for romione week 2023, oblivious harry, 9k words… oops

““We could just… not tell him.” / “Just keeping it a secret? Okay.” / Whatever Joanne wrote for Deathly Hallows was NOT real. This is (trust me).”

that damned cat

— RATED G: post-war, hermione’s eighth year, crookshanks fic, cuts to around 2009/2010 i think, cat dad ron, and just general dad ron, wine uncles drarry

“Ron hates that cat—but he loves Hermione more.”

thinking about how the hunger games were designed to prove that without society, order, government, someone to rule, we devolve into little more than animals, and how the games themselves prove over and over again that this is not true. We see it in every single game we witness.

Katniss placing flowers around Rue's body in the arena. Thresh sparing Katniss because she was kind to Rue, even though he was making it that much harder for himself to win.

Haymitch going back for Maysilee after hearing her scream even though their alliance had been broken. Haymitch holding her as she dies the same way Katniss did Rue.

Coral's "I can't have killed them all for nothing" when she realizes she's not going home. Lamina cutting down Marcus at great personal risk. And, my favorite moment in tbosas, Reaper collecting the bodies of his fellow tributes, his peers, even the ones who tried to kill him, into a pile. Taking the weapons from their hands. Closing their eyes and crossing their arms in the best approximation of a proper burial he can manage, covering them with the Capitol flag as a makeshift shroud.

The Games bring out the worst in people, yes. But despite the extreme circumstances, despite the exterior pressure of the Capitol, despite the fact that it could mean pain and heartbreak and death, it also shows that people have an enormous capacity for goodness. That even in a situation purposefully designed to make empathy impossible, people can't help but have it anyway.

Snow looks at the Games and all he can see is what's inside himself-- this pure animalistic drive to conquer and defeat. He kills and it feels good and he thinks that everyone else must feel that way too. He doesn't realize (maybe can't realize) that he is the exception, not the rule. He cannot see outside himself, outside his own warped perspective, to realize that the fact that people do show humanity in the games proves his entire worldview wrong.

Yeah Katniss Is Lucy Gray’s greatest revenge on snow

But Peeta is how she haunts him.

Katniss is Lucy’s anger. She’s the retribution.

Katniss is fire. Katniss used her songs as a warcry. As a call to arms.

Katniss is the fight.

Katniss is the revenge.

Peeta is Lucy’s kindness.  He’s the reminder.

A boy in love with a songbird. A boy obsessed with with a victor from twelve.

Peeta is the good that Lucy was. Peeta believes in that fundamental kindness Lucy gray did. Peeta is her memory. The reminder that Snow crossed that line into evil.

Even after being high jacked, peeta warns people. He tells them to flee the danger. Run like Lucy did.

Peeta knows how to hide. He can disappear in the woods.

Just like Lucy did.

Peeta is charismatic, someone the capitol fell in love with, like they did with Lucy.

Peeta is the memory.

Katniss was there to end Snow, to stop him to make sure everything he built was burned.

Peeta was there to torment him. Be the ghost of Lucy. Make sure Snow was in pain over the woman he lost.

Two Braids Instead Of One, I Think, Recalling Peeta’s First Memory Of Me, When We Were In Kindergarten.

Two braids instead of one, I think, recalling Peeta’s first memory of me, when we were in kindergarten. I comb out my hair and plait it in a quick pair of braids, each tied with red ribbon. Our courtship is over, but these are staying.

Peeta wraps his arms around me from behind and kisses my cheek. I smile at our reflection. Both of us barefoot on the hardwood, rumpled and happy. Held in amber.

I am beyond blown away by this absolutely breathtaking commission @little-lynx was so kind to accept from my story (read: self indulgent fic-baby) Hearthsong! I can’t thank you enough for this piece, darling! I can’t get over how many details you included! The bittersweet vine and the red candles! And the sweetheart ribbons! And Katniss and Peeta’s newlywed happiness … it just radiates comfort! I adore it so so so so much!

I cannot overstate how significant the theme of “the garden” is to The Hunger Games series.

Of course, for many people, alluding to “the garden” puts them in mind of the biblical Eden, and I believe this is entirely intentional. Eden is a place of dignity and of peace. Adam and Eve are expected to do two important tasks: care for the garden, and be fruitful themselves. Many a Christian theologian has therefore proposed that humanity’s original vocation was to be gardeners: and not only in the literal weeding and planting sense, but in sense of cultivating life and beauty. The narrative goes on to describe how humans reject that original calling (re: “great gift for self destruction”) and are exiled from Eden — but, perhaps unsurprisingly, the garden imagery doesn’t go away. Throughout the rest of the Bible, garden imagery is now used in anticipation of a future restoration of human dignity and peace. So what does this have to do with The Hunger Games? Well, let’s take a stroll through Panem’s gardens, shall we?

We’re going to start in the Everdeen home. I confess, I’m going to begin by stretching the metaphor a little, but stay with me. When Katniss wakes up, the other side of her bed is cold, because Prim is missing. But usually, we would assume, they sleep together: two girls with flower names clustered together in the same bed. How appropriate: Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen have created a miniature garden in their two daughters. Is it any wonder that restoration comes, in many ways, from this garden bed?

But there are more obvious examples of “flower power.” Peeta recognizes Katniss’s dignity and gives her new dignity and hope by giving her bread. His generosity gives her the push she needs to find yet another garden and maintain her own dignity in the face of poverty: this time, in the wild expanses of dandelions she and Prim gather for sustenance. And like Katniss herself, Peeta is now identified, from that point forward, with flowers. Both katniss and dandelion are flowers that can grow rampant if left unchecked once they lay down roots.

This is precisely what Katniss and Peeta do, like invasive weeds: only their invasion forces radical dignity onto Snow’s manicured, artificial rose lawn. Katniss explicitly states the beautifully dangerous nature of kind people and uses the metaphor of “rooting.”

Katniss’s burial of Rue (another botanical name) in flowers is a striking example of this radical compassion. It is not so much that Rue’s death is shocking to the people watching: it is Katniss’s reaction, stubbornly insisting upon Rue’s dignity in the face of evil, that sparks rebellion. And how does she do it? With a handmade garden cradling Rue’s body. The impact of Katniss’s garden blossoms beyond the forest where Rue died: to Thresh, and to all of Panem.

Other images in the first book include Katniss, on the verge of death in the arena, finding water among the yellow lilies, and Peeta picking flowers (well, wild onion tops) for her along the train tracks. The first image is one of restoration, but the second is an inversion of what we expect. We expect Peeta’s offering to signal a peace in their relationship, and it is jarring when the opposite occurs.

If garden imagery in The Hunger Games is most concerned with human dignity, in Catching Fire, we most clearly see the garden as a place of peace. Katniss and Peeta are most at peace when they work together on the plant book, that sunlit bedroom a small Eden unto itself. On the rooftop, in the garden, as Katniss toys with a flower chain, Peeta wishes he could stop time, and live in their fragile peace forever. Peeta also gets his own “Rue” moment with the morphling. Now, it’s not the morphling’s death scene that gives us flower imagery, but the scene that prefigures it does: when Peeta and the morphling paint (yellow, again) flowers on Katniss. Joined together with this stranger by the act of “tending a garden” as it were, Peeta is able to give her a sense of peace in her final moments.

In Mockingjay, the garden is an image of restoration. One of the very few beautiful images we see in 13 is the image of the green bird sipping nectar from an orange blossom in the meadow room. I’ll leave it up to you to read into those particular colors. Quite literally, the bird is engaging in restoration of its energy, but the picture restores Katniss’s spirits, even if for only a moment. Appropriately, the story concludes with a garden as well: Peeta once again taking on the mantle of gardener to make a memory garden for Katniss. Seeing the primroses gives her the spark to destroy Snow’s unnatural rose and reclaim her dignity and her peace yet again. It is only fitting that the last image we see of Katniss and her family is in the meadow. Despite their fears, our protagonists have been fruitful: the children are more than “a happy ending.” They are a reclamation of the original garden purpose. To be sure, it is not a true idyll. Katniss is keenly aware of the bones on which it grows, but that is not where she takes comfort. She takes comfort—though her children take it for granted—in the book, and in the words of the song that speak of a “soft green pillow” and “daisies” guarding from harm. In a way, imperfectly, “Eden” has been regained.

Could we maybe have some katniss and peeta actually bonding and becoming close during the catching fire period (as is touched on in the books, but it’s so brief rip😭)

Could We Maybe Have Some Katniss And Peeta Actually Bonding And Becoming Close During The Catching Fire

Lololololol imma give you more than you asked for. I have made the executive decision to write this prompt into a mini-series that’ll ultimately become a Catching Fire/Mockingjay AU. It’ll be a short one, comprised of a series of short - ish oneshots. Hopefully it won’t take me long to write. 🥰🤣. I always say that though 😭.

Okay anyways, this first one is set right after they work on the plant book together after Katniss hurts her foot and tailbone. So after she notices his eyelashes but before her prep team shows up in Twelve and the Quarter Quell announcement is made. 🤗🤗🤗. The first few oneshots in this series are going to be just like this prompt says, Katniss and Peeta getting to know each other more and bonding deeper (a lot lot lot deeper if you know what I mean) in Catching Fire. I hope you like this! I hope anyone who reads this first little oneshot enjoys it!

Peeta and I walk side by side into town, the cobblestone path giving my bad heel some trouble. “Are you alright?” He murmurs, his voice quiet and concerned. My mother let me leave the house for the first time today after after examining my bad foot and appraising it healed enough for a walk through town. I suppose let is a strong word, considering I don’t often ask her for permission these days. I haven’t in years. Not since my father died and especially not since I won the games.

“I’m fine,” I say nonchalantly, hoping that if I act enough like the pain shooting up through my heel and into the backside of my calf is nothing then I’ll convince even myself.

Peeta seems to see through my facade but lets it drop, choosing rather to attempt at distracting me. “Do you like that cloth?” He asks, pointing to some purple material in the town seamstress’ window.

I shrug it off though. “I never cared much for fancy things.” He shoots me a curious look at that and I raise an eyebrow in his direction. “Peeta, do I seem like the kind of person who’d be interested in fancy materials?”

“No,” he says, shaking his head. “But you do have an eye for beauty.”

Now I look at him curiosity. “Peeta, that’s you? You’re the one around here with the eye for beauty.”

He suddenly laughs and his eyes soften as they lower down to meet mine. “I suppose I do.”

But I’m still on the defensive for some reason. “Even more than that. You have a real weakness for beautiful things.”

“No,” he refutes, his smile becoming a smirk. “No, that’s only when it comes to you.”

I open my mouth to respond before his meaning computes. And then I’m just left speechless, never anticipating the way he can worm compliments and admissions of love into any conversation, always so seamless and always so genuine. Never expecting any sort of response in return but leaving me feeling bashful and guilty just the same.

As if proving he doesn’t expect any confession on my part, he changes the subject, gesturing towards the sweets shop down the way. “Did Cherry get a new flavor?” He asks and I squint, reading the sign.

Cherry is a chubby middle-aged women with at least three kids who I assume are much younger than me. I really don’t know any of them at all, since I’ve never had much reason to go into the shop until recently. Until I became a victor, living in the richest part of Twelve, I never once set foot in the sweets shop, never being able to afford anything in it.

Prim’s been in there though, many times over. She used to stop in, even when our mother couldn’t stand getting out of bed in the morning and looked at us like we were ghosts instead of her children. Prim would stare at the display case and fantasize about the day she could afford any flavor of ice cream or any piece of chocolate the shop had to offer.

She has gotten almost every item on the menu since I won the games. But for some reason, the memory of seven-year-old Prim, gaunt and tiny and the picture of innocence, standing in front of the vanilla ice cream, dreaming of the taste, moves me to abruptly head towards the business.

“Let’s go in there,” I say, grabbing Peeta’s hand before thinking better of it and pulling him towards the sweets shop.

I hear him chuckle behind me, but follow just the same. In fact he seems downright at home inside the business as soon as we cross the threshold. Much to my surprise, for some reason.

We only have to wait in line for a minute or two before a girl, no older than eight, skips up to the register. “Hi, Peeta,” she says brightly, flashing him a smile that reveals two missing teeth.

“Hi, Pixie,” he says in a voice I barely recognize. Have I ever seen him talk to a child before? Never, I realize. Never that I can recall off the top of my head. “What is it that I hear about a new sale?” He asks in a bright tone.

The little girl gets rapidly more and more excited, prattling on about how they got a new flavor straight from the Capitol and that her mother let her try it first and how it’s bright blue and tastes like the sky.

“Hey, when was the last time you tasted the sky?” Peeta murmurs, tugging on her braid gently. Her braid that bears a rather striking resemblance to mine.

Pixie giggles a little and I find the sound surprisingly sweet. Which, I suppose, shouldn’t be a shock since she’s clearly the owner’s — of the sweets shop — child but still. There’s something extremely endearing about her.

And I suddenly cannot help but wonder if this is how Peeta — or any other merchant — feels when watching people from the Seam interact? I can’t explain why but, as I stare at the two of them now, it dawns on me that they look so much alike. The ash blonde hair, the light blue eyes, the rosy cheeks and fair skin. They even have the same exact nose.

“Well, I’d like two cartons of that new flavor then,” Peeta says, still smiling at the little girl. “You officially sold me on that.” She giggles in response and hops off her stepping stool to go scoop up his order.

“Are you a regular here?” I ask quietly, wondering how he’s so completely familiar with this place when he himself said he used to only eat the old, stale bread from the bakery. How much trading would the sweets shop and the Mellark have to do to become this aquatinted? I can’t imagine the witch making friends with much of anyone.

But then again, Peeta did exclusively spend time with the other town kids growing up. Maybe he knows every shop owner and family in town.

I wonder, in the back of my mind, if he knows my grandparents then. If he knows the people who disowned my mother for falling in love with and marrying my father. If he’s ever stopped by the apothecary and bought herbs or remedies from them. Made pleasant conversation or exchanged niceties.

I’ve never known either of them and I never intend to but the idea of Peeta being even cordial with my estranged grandparents makes my skin crawl.

“Katniss,” Peeta says, bringing me back to reality. “What kind of ice cream do you want?”

“Vanilla,” I answer distantly — because it’s Prim’s absolute favorite — before thinking twice and adding in, “and chocolate. Vanilla and chocolate. One of each.”

He repeats my order to Pixie as she hands him his two cartons. At first I think he’s just repeating it because he assumes I’m too shy to order myself. But then he reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a large wad of cash, handing the entire amount to the little girl.

“Wait, Peeta!’’ I hiss as soon as Pixie goes to collect my ice cream too. “You can’t pay for me.”

“Let me,” he insists, his voice hushed as well. “I want to, Katniss.”

I try to object again but then his eyes meet mine and there’s something else there. There’s something else in his gaze, an intensity I rarely see. The same intensity that appears when he’s drawing, that was there when the peacekeeper in Eleven pressed his gun to me, an intensity that indicates an entire world locked away inside the boy with the bread. An entire world I’ve only recently discovered, that I’ve barely begun to know. Really know, not just as a byproduct of survival, as a byproduct of acting for the cameras, but really come to understand on a deeper level.

Pixie jumps back up onto her stepping stool and hands me a stack of three cartons of ice cream, instead of two. “Here you go, Miss Katniss,” she says in a polite and high-pitched tone. One that reminds me a lot of Prim at her age.

And I can’t help the affection in my tone, in my eyes and my genuine smile, despite the fact that I don’t know this child at all. “Thank you, Pixie. But I did only order two cartons.”

“I know.” She pushes them towards me again, clearly wanting me to take all three. “But I added in strawberry for free. For you guys to share.” Her big blue eyes travel between me and Peeta and I don’t have the heart to turn down an eight-year-old’s generosity.

“Thank you,” I murmur, truly touched by the gesture. “That’s very kind of you.”

“Yes,” Peeta agrees, and him and her share a smile between them, like a secret being exchanged right before me. “That is very kind of you, Pix.”

“Love you,” she murmurs happily, beaming now as she leans across the counter to hug him around the neck.

“Love you too. Tell your mother hi for me,” he adds, scooping up his ice cream in one arm and grasping my hand with his other.

“Okay!” She promises as we leave, waving goodbye until we’re out of sight.

We walk for a solid five minutes down the cobblestone path in total silence before I finally speak. “So you know her really well then?”

It’s a quite obvious fact, given that he just told the little girl he loved her. But for some reason, I still don’t see his answer coming at all. “Katniss,” he says, his tone a little sardonic. “She’s my cousin. Of course I know her well.”

That stops me in my tracks. “She’s your cousin?” I suddenly replay their entire exchange over in my head, their familiarity clicking at last.

And now he’s laughing at me. “Did you never realize half the people from town were related?”

I blink twice, barely giving his question any thought before replying. “It never occurred to me,” I defend, feeling more than a little embarrassed, despite the fact that I had no way of knowing this information. We walk in silence for a few minutes, as he still smiles to himself at my ignorance and I ponder another thought. It’s nothing specific, just a realization the last twenty minutes have really driven home.

Peeta seems to recognize I’m mulling something over. “What’re you thinking about?” He asks as our houses come into view. His fingers press against the space between my brows, the space that gets an angry line every time I’m deep in thought. A result of my instinctive habit of always knitting my brows together.

I look up at him, considering my words for a moment before admitting, “There’s just a lot we still don’t know about each other.”

For some reason Peeta has a solution to this ready and loaded. “Then let’s get to know each other now.”

It sounds so easy when he says it like that. So easy and effortless and nice. All the things our relationship has never gotten a chance to be, having always bore the pressure of survival on it’s back.

I nod, accepting his answer, surprising me how simple it is. “Okay,” I agree and smile at the way he picks up my hand again and squeezes it lightly in response.

He matches my expression. “Okay.”

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

I started this series with “interview before the games” and finished book one’s outfits with “interview after the games” (let’s say that was intentional). When I started (that was September 2020) I was sure I would finish this series very quickly. Lol. I still nowhere near the end. But at least “Hunger Games” is done! That was painful to look at my first illustrations (some of them I had to redraw completely) and I needed to make it look like a series so I fixed some things. I tried to do this “fixing” not very dramatic at some cases (like the first interview one, which I still kinda like, but I completely changed the way I draw Peeta since then so I didn’t know what to do with him lol) but hell, sometimes I thought it was easier to redraw everything. And I think I would have done if I wasn’t so lazy and always tired and I actually really want to draw new stuff. So here it is, all at once. All the (described at least in one word) Everlark Outfits from the first book!

THE REAPING

To my surprise, my mother has laid out one of her own lovely dresses for me. A soft blue thing with matching shoes. <...> “Of course. Let’s put your hair up, too,” she says. I let her towel-dry it and braid it up on my head. <...> the elaborate braided hair my mother did for the reaping <...> silky braids. / chapter 1 /// We know nothing about Peeta’s clothes. But I assume it should be something like this. Casual. Classic. Light brown/beige.

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

THE TRAIN

I peel off my mother’s blue dress and take a hot shower. I’ve never had a shower before. It’s like being in a summer rain, only warmer. I dress in a dark green shirt and pants. At the last minute, I remember Madge’s little gold pin. For the first time, I get a good look at it. It’s as if someone fashioned a small golden bird and then attached a ring around it. The bird is connected to the ring only by its wing tips. I suddenly recognize it. A mocking jay. <…> I fasten the pin onto my shirt, and with the dark green fabric as a background, I can almost imagine the mockingjay flying through the trees. <…> I put the green outfit back on since it’s not really dirty, just slightly crumpled from spending the night on the floor. <…> I slept in the elaborate braided hair my mother did for the reaping and it doesn’t look too bad, so I just leave it up. / chapter 3 /// Again we know nothing about Peeta’s outfit, but. But ok, it must be something casual and comfortable soooo… sweatpants?

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

THE OPENING CEREMONY

I am dressed in what will either be the most sensational or the deadliest costume in the opening ceremonies. I’m in a simple black unitard that covers me from ankle to neck. Shiny leather boots lace up to my knees. But it’s the fluttering cape made of streams of orange, yellow, and red and the matching headpiece that define this costume. Cinna plans to light them on fire just before our chariot rolls into the streets. <…> My face is relatively clear of makeup, just a bit of highlighting here and there. My hair has been brushed out and then braided down my back in my usual style. <…> Despite this morning’s revelation about Peeta’s character, I’m actually relieved when he shows up, dressed in an identical costume. / chapter 5

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

TRAINING

When I’m dried and moisturized with lotion, I find an outfit has been left for me at the front of the closet. Tight black pants, a long-sleeved burgundy tunic, and leather shoes. I put my hair in the single braid down my back. This is the first time since the morning of the reaping that I resemble myself. No fancy hair and clothes, no flaming capes. Just me. Looking like I could be headed for the woods. It calms me. <...> Haymitch and Peeta come in, bid me good morning, fill their plates. It makes me irritated that Peeta is wearing exactly the same outfit I am. I need to say something to Cinna. This twins act is going to blow up in out faces once the Games begin. <...> “One last thing. In public, I want you by each other’s side every minute,” says Haymitch. We both start to object, but Haymitch slams his hand on the table. “Every minute! It’s not open for discussion! You agreed to do as I said! You will be together, you will appear amiable to each other. Now get out. Meet Effie at the elevator at ten for training.” <...> The other tributes are gathered in a tense circle. They each have a cloth square with their district number on it pinned to their shirts. While someone pins the number 12 on my back, I do a quick assessment. Peeta and I are the only two dressed alike. / chapter 7 /// To be honest the previous version was a lot closer to book description (more tight pants and shoes obviously made from leather and here there are just leather sneakers), but hell, Cinna, Portia, what was wrong with you when you’ve created training outfits? Tight pants? For sword training?! Long sleeve? It’s damn July!

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

INTERVIEW BEFORE THE GAMES

The team works on me until late afternoon, turning my skin to glowing satin, stenciling patterns on my arms, painting flame designs on my twenty perfect nails. Then Venia goes to work on my hair, weaving strands of red into a pattern that begins at my left ear, wraps around my head, and then falls in one braid down my right shoulder. They erase my face with a layer of pale makeup and draw my features back out. Huge dark eyes, full red lips, lashes that throw off bits of light when I blink. Finally, they cover my entire body in a powder that makes me shimmer in gold dust. <...> I can feel the silken inside as they slip it down over my naked body, then the weight. It must be forty pounds. I clutch Octavia’s hand as I blindly step into my shoes, glad to find they are at least two inches lower than the pair Effie had me practice in. <...> My dress is entirely covered in reflective precious gems, red and yellow and white with bits of blue that accent the tips of the flame design. The slightest movement gives the impression I am engulfed in tongues of fire. <...> The dress hangs in such a way that I don’t have to lift the skirt when I walk, leaving me with one less thing to worry about. <...> Peeta looks striking in a black suit with flame accents. While we look well together, it’s a relief not to be dressed identically. / chapter 9

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

ARENA

Cinna does my hair in my simple trademark braid down my back. Then the clothes arrive, the same for every tribute. Cinna has had no say in my outfit, does not even know what will be in the package, but he helps me dress in the undergarments, simple tawny pants, light green blouse, sturdy brown belt, and thin, hooded black jacket that falls to my thighs. “The material in the jacket’s designed to reflect body heat. Expect some cool nights,” he says. The boots, worn over skintight socks, are better than I could have hoped for. Soft leather not unlike my ones at home. These have a narrow flexible rubber sole with treads though. Good for running. I think I’m finished when Cinna pulls the gold mockingjay pin from his pocket. I had completely forgotten about it. [Katniss] + a bright orange backpack. + silver sheath of arrows and a bow, already strung [Peeta] + I agently unzip his jacket, unbutton his shirt and ease them off him. + I hand Peeta my knife, since whatever weapons he once had are long gone, and he slips it into his belt. / chapter 10 thank goodness this one was already redone lol

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

VICTORY CEREMONY

Cinna comes in with what appears to be an unassuming yellow dress across his arms. <…> slips it over my head. I immediately notice the padding over my breasts, adding curves that hunger has stolen from my body. <…> Venia helps me into a pair of flat leather sandals and I turn to the mirror. I am still the “girl on fire.” The sheer fabric softly glows. Even the slight movement in the air sends a ripple up my body. By comparison, the chariot costume seems garish, the interview dress too contrived. In this dress, I give the illusion of wearing candlelight. <…> My hair’s loose, held back by a simple hairband. The makeup rounds and fills out the sharp angles of my face. A clear polish coats my nails. The sleeveless dress is gathered at my ribs, not my waist, largely eliminating any help the padding would have given my figure. The hem falls just to my knees. <…> He looks so clean and healthy and beautiful, I can hardly recognize him. But his smile is the same whether in mud or in the Capitol and when I see it, I take about three steps and fling myself into his arms. He staggers back, almost losing his balance, and that’s when I realize the slim, metal contraption in his hand is some kind of cane. <…> His shirt is made of the same yellow material as my dress, but Portia’s put him in long black pants. No sandals, either, but a pair of sturdy black boots he keeps solidly planted on the stage. / chapter 27

KATNISS AND PEETA’S OUTFITS: BOOK ONE

INTERVIEW AFTER THE GAMES

When Cinna comes in, he shoos them [prep team] out and dresses me in a white, gauzy dress and pink shoes. Then he personally adjusts my makeup until I seem to radiate a soft, rosy glow. <…> Then Peeta’s there looking handsome in red and white, pulling me off to the side. / chapter 27

Hi I’m really sorry to bother you! But I was wondering if you knew where one of the Percabeth fics went? I’m not sure if it’s gone or I just haven’t searched correctly for it…

It’s a fic where Annabeth and Percy are aged up and in college! Annabeth loves that they are um *intimate* in such a sweet way, but really wished that Percy would be a bit rougher sometimes…and he doesn’t disappoint.

Thank you! Love your blog ☺️

Hello, I found this. Not sure if this is the exact one but it sure has a lot of *intimate* Percabeth and darker, dominant Percy.

This fic deals with percabeth’s life after all the chaos that they’ve been through. They are young adults (and cute lovebirds) who are just trying to navigate through life while enjoying each other’s company. Lots of cuteness, lots of emotional stuff going down (cause this couple owns me tbh), and some smut sprinkled on top (no minors allowed).

@miikkkkkkkka @lalelilolusworld did someone say jealous!percy? (it has a smut part as well though, so beware you guys)

In Anticipation of the "New Girl" Cast Reunion Panel, A Nick/Jess Fic Smutfest

In Anticipation Of The "New Girl" Cast Reunion Panel, A Nick/Jess Fic Smutfest

Hot damn, the connection between Nick Miller and Jessica Day is something (says me, Captain Obvious, reporting for duty.)

Having entered the New Girl fandom in earnest only this year (I am the stupidest of all the stupid girls), I'm very late to the party. But from The Hallway Kiss That Changed Everything to The Furiously Hot Dining-Room Table Almost-Fuck, I've become shamelessly devoted to reading & writing Nick/Jess fanfic that gets, um, explicit.

These two clowns — with their sexiness and stupidity; their electric chemistry; their self-defeating stubbornness; their underlying, overarching, ever-present love for each other — just rev my dang engine.

So... to mark & celebrate the upcoming New Girl cast reunion panel, I figured: why not collect some smutty Nick/Jess goodness all in one place (especially for those who, like me, came to this show in earnest after its on-air run, and initially missed all the spectacular stories written during its early years) — and also put out a call for additional recommended reading?

The first seven entries listed below are recommendations of others' work, followed by links to a few of my own stories.

If there are hot Nick/Jess stories you love and want to highlight, reblog or comment with titles & links, and maybe this post/thread can become a repository of smutty Nick/Jess fic recs? (Or maybe it will just remain me, thirstily talking to myself, but you never know until you try...)

OK, here we go! All of these stories are explicit, for adults only, and published on A03:

At the Edges, by @blithers

Because let's be real here: she is totally flirting with him, too. There's no question about it. She's flirting back hard, her hand wrapped around the stem of her wineglass and her laugh getting throatier and lower into Jessica Day sexy land.

A ridiculously hot one-shot in which Nick and Jess's first time takes place at the bar. Come for the glorious hotness; stay for the perfect channeling of Jess's inner voice.

Mistakes We Knew We Were Making, by @kyrafic

Inappropriate laundry room activities, etcetera.

A magnificent fic that starts with a wildly hot encounter in the laundry room and then somehow, impossibly, just keeps getting sexier from there.

Just What Humans Do, by yolandawinston

But logic and past precedent and the truth gnawing at her gut aside, she must have been drunk. Because there's no way that sober Jessica Day would have had sex with her roommate, whom she previously had kissed a grand total of once, in the place where her other roommates brush their teeth in the morning.

A story that includes both gorgeous characterization and crazy-hot first-time sex in the loft bathroom? Sign. Me. Up.

Lay My Head on the Hood of Your Car, by arbitrarily

Jess moves on. And gets it on with her roommate. Normal stuff. Nothing to see here.

Written way back at the start of the show. Hilarious and hot and somehow perfectly true to character -- even though it was written when only a few episodes had aired.

Tonight Will Be a Memory Too (or, Jessica Day's First Sex Dream About Nick Miller), by @ghostcat3000

A night alone in front of the TV used to be very different in #4D.

If you happen to have read, well, pretty much anything of mine, you'll know that I love writing Nick/Jess sex dreams. I love reading them, too — especially this one.

This Must Be the Place, by innie

Nick and Jess both said yes.

An absolutely beautiful story that starts where season two ends, with the hottest reference to Nick's nose ever made.

Another One by @actualbabe

“C’mon birthday girl,” Nick whispers into her ear, his voice pitched low. “I think you’ve got one more in ya.”

Hot hot hotness, in which Nick Miller's great big hands play a starring role.

And up next, here are a few of my own contributions:

And This Is the Morning (WIP)

In retrospect, maybe asking Nick to go with her to The Crafters’ Castle the day after he almost nailed her on the dining room table wasn’t Jess’s brightest idea ever.

Or: What happened in the 24 hours after the fishtank broke.

(Canon-divergent. Set after 2x19, “Quick-Hardening Caulk.”)

1,893.2 Miles

Nick Miller is shit at lying to other people. He’s pretty good at lying to himself.

(Set after the S5 finale. Nick is in New Orleans with Reagan and in denial about his intense and lingering feelings for Jess — until a series of events happens that he can’t ignore. Jess, in LA, embarks on what she's calling her Summer of Eventually Discerning The Right Nick-Related Next Steps; things don't go exactly as planned. A three-part, alternating-POV story in which Nick and Jess fumble their way back towards each other over the course of one summer filled with realizations, recollections, a sex dream or two — and then, at last, a reunion. Canon-adjacent and then divergent.)

Designs on You

She could have sworn that earlier this week, Nick looked at her with a hint of That Night’s same dark fire in his eyes. She had asked him to help her with a stubborn bracelet clasp; after he sprung the mechanism, his fingers curled briefly and unnecessarily around her wrist.

“There ya go, Jess,” he said quietly, swallowing once, his eyes on hers, before he let go and left the room.

(She’d be lying if she said she’d forgotten that asking him for help with things turned him on.)

(Set in 4x22, “Clean Break," a year after Jess & Nick’s breakup and an hour after their so-much-left-unsaid Sex Mug conversation in his room. Canon divergence ahead.)

***

If you're of age and Miller and Day get you going, thanks so much for chiming in with your own sexy Nick/Jess fic recs or your own sexy Nick/Jess stories (and for considering reading mine). There's so much incredibly great stuff from so many wonderful writers out there.

Thirst on, fellow Nick/Jess thirsters, thirst on... and fingers crossed for some questions about The Kiss and The Chemistry at the reunion panel June 8!

Ummm is there Anne and Gilbert smut fics? With the kind of beautiful words that Anne loves to use?? Thank you sm for doing this for us!!!!

There absolutely are! Here are the ones in my bookmarks! There will be AUs probably thrown in there because sometimes it's easier to write them banging it out in a setting that won't land them married lol. (There are varying levels of smut in these, so heed the tags and warnings listed by the authors. All the E stuff is the second half of the list).
