i think concernedape should add a feature in stardew valley where - while looking at the map - you can find every villager and where theyâre at at that moment, including whether theyâre walking or just standing somewhere. this would lessen the time of me taking hours to find someone, for them not to be there. just a thought.

Mushroom season is in full swing! There are a few topics one should always avoid when talking with mushroom hunters. Iâm a moderator on a mushroom identification group of about 30,000 people, and if you start talking about one of these topics, your post or comment will be deleted! Here are a few rules one should follow when talking with fellow mushroom hunters (and yes, I know these sound like a cross between Karen complaints and fae rules).Â
1. Never ask for someoneâs mushrooms spot. Asking for someoneâs mushroom spot is tantamount to declaring youâre going to steal all of their mushrooms and leave them with nothing but severed stipes! This is very rude and hurtful. If you really need a hint as to where to find certain species, instead ask something like, âat what elevation in what mountain range did you find these?â That will allow the forager to give you a general answer, and wonât force them to give up their secrets. A kind forager will respond to, âWhere is your mushroom spot?â with something like, â400m, Cascade foothills.â A less forgiving forager might stuff a wad of moss down your throat.
2. Do not argue about or even mention âcut versus pluck.â Whether you cut a mushroom from the ground with a knife or pluck it with your fingers has no significant effect whatsoever on the health of the mushroom population or how many mushrooms will come up the next year. There is a common misconception that cutting mushrooms with a knife is less damaging, but this is untrue. Cutting and plucking both donât cause any harm! Youâre just removing a fruiting body, and the real body of the mushroom is formed by mycelia underground. People feel really strongly about cut versus pluck, even if they know the different methods have no real effect on the fungi. Some people prefer to cut so others know they were there, or to keep their baskets clean, while others prefer to pluck to leave less visible debris in the forest, or to take more edible fungus. Either way: it should never be brought up. Itâs a bannable offense in some groups - think, âWe! Do not! Talk! About! The! Orangutan!â
3. Do not scold people for picking mushrooms they do not know the species of. This is called âpick shamingâ in mushroom hunter communities. Sometimes, well-meaning folks will scold people for picking mushrooms they donât know because they think itâs âwastefulâ to pick a mushroom if they do not intend to eat it. This comes from a good place, since theyâre obviously environmentally-conscious, but it also shows that they donât know much about fungi. They are not plants! Revisit point 2: picking or cutting mushrooms has no effect whatsoever on the health of the fungus. More importantly, a lot of mushrooms need spore prints and a view of the entire specimen, from the base to the top of the pileus, to properly identify. In fact, to identify many toxic Amanita species, you must look at the volva at the base of the stipe, which requires pulling out the entire specimen. New foragers should indeed pick mushrooms to identify them - this is how they should learn.Â
4. This is more of a pet peeve, but: do not ask âis this edible?â or âis this magic?â before you know what mushroom species youâre working with. Few things irritate me and other mushroom experts as much as seeing a picture of a toxic mushroom with the question, âEdible?â but no request for id. There are three reasons for this: First, I donât want to be responsible for whether you eat a mushroom and get sick from it. I can tell you what I think it is, and thereâs a 99.99% chance Iâm correct, but if Iâm either wrong or you have a particular sensitivity to that species (and many people do to common species like Laetiporus conifericola), I donât want to get the blame for âtelling you it was fine to eat.â Many mushroom hunters make a point of giving only the identification and letting the requester research edibility on their own for this reason. Second, me telling you if something is edible is not helping you learn to identify or hunt mushrooms, itâs just giving you a cheap way to repeatedly stick Agaricus foundinmyyardicus  on the forum and have someone else id it for you. Third, and more importantly, why are you putting things in your mouth if you donât know what they are? WHY?! What is wrong with you?! Mushroom maggots are also edible, but you would not eat them!Â
5. Do not make unverified claims of mushroom medicinal use or, worse, offer medical advice unless youâre a trained and licensed professional. You can say, âThere are some studies I found in this peer reviewed journal that indicate Trametes versicolor might be promising for such-and-such use,â but do not say stuff like, âTurkey tails cure cancer!â or, âSusan, I hear you had the flu. You should drink Ganoderma oregonense tea to boost your immune system!â Donât risk poisoning someone, messing with their medication, or spreading pseudoscience by suggesting they use a mushroom for medicinal purposes unless youâre a trained medical professional. A forager who has casually read some journal articles is not a trained medical professional! Â
6. Donât mock folks for asking for confirmation of an âeasy to identifyâ mushroom species. Youâd be surprised by how many people misidentify species that are as âeasyâ to identify as Cantharellus formosus. I would much rather forty people post chanterelles and one accidentally post Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca while asking for confirmation than forty one people blindly eat their mushroom haul, thinking theyâre chanterelles, only for one to get sick on Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca. Be responsible, and remember you were a beginner once, too.Â
7. In identification groups, donât give a definite identification unless youâre 100% sure of the mushroom someone is asking for an id of. If youâre unsure, say something like, âLooks like Laccaria bicolor,â or, âCompare to Amanita augusta.â Donât say, âThatâs Xerocomellus zelleriâ with certainty unless youâre willing to bet on your motherâs life itâs Xerocomellus zelleri. This usually isnât a big deal, but there was a bit of a kerfuffle on one of the mushroom forums a few years back when someone said, âThatâs a matsutake!â about a deadly Amanita smithiana, and then proceeded to argue with David Arora, a legend among mycologists and the author of identification books like Mushrooms Demystified and All that the Rain Promises and More, upon being corrected.Â
8. When identifying mushrooms, always use scientific names. Common names are colorful and easy to remember, but different species might have the same common name, or other people might be unfamiliar with the common name youâre using. Some species donât even have common names! Itâs totally okay to give both a scientific name and a common name, though, if the common name exists.Â

The spiritual temple meditation is created to help foster your connection with your higher self. This exercise helps you to use your imagination as a tool for unlocking the truths of your subconscious mind. When we are working with energy, spirits, or the divine, our messages are delivered through psychic means from the energy sent to us from these sources. This practice helps to give a physical representation to that energy, and opens the message of that energy to conscious interpretation. With continued practice, this meditation will help you to develop your intuition, help you to speak with your guides, and allows you to create a safe place to gain clarity whenever you need it.
Spiritual Temple Meditation
Start this meditation by making sure you are in a quiet and calm area where you will not be disturbed. Give yourself time to work on this meditation and progress at your own pace. Do not force the visions you want to see, but observe them as they present themselves from your subconscious.
Make sure you are grounded, centered, and shielded.
Begin by aligning and energizing the chakras.
After these steps, start this meditation by imagining that you are floating in complete darkness.
Begin to walk forward, feel that there is solid ground beneath you and start to feel it become more present and solid as you walk forward.
As you begin to feel the ground become more solid, focus now on the darkness before you and see a spot of white light in the distance.
Keep walking towards the white light, and watch as it becomes a larger and larger circle until you pass between the darkness into the light.
Continue to walk forward, feeling the same solid ground and acknowledging that the light is not indeed solid, but occurs in bright streams.
Look between these streams of white light and see the shapes and pictures between the bright streams.
Keep walking and watching as the streams become more and more thin and see how a clear picture forms of the world of spirit you are now entering.
When you can see the world you are in clearly manifest, you will notice that you are walking straight up behind a spirit.
Observe the features of this spirit.
You can observe your spirit as it acts, from this third person perspective, or you may step into it and experience this new realm as your spirit in first person.
Notice how the vibrations of your higher self-feel, walk around your environment. This is your spiritual happy place and the dwelling place of your spirit in your subconscious mind.
Journal your experiences and feelings and the surroundings.
If you wish to go further, look for other spirits in this realm, these are your spiritual guardians.
Use this meditation to begin to build an understanding of the energies of your spirit and the guardians around you.
When you wish to ask questions of spirit, come to this space. It is a space of communion and safety! You can commune with your higher self, ancestors, or spirit guides here without fear, as it is a location sequestered just for you.

(smudging is a term from Native American that is not an open practice, smoke cleansing is called Smoke Cleansing, smudging is closed as well as white sage and san palo, important Native American herbs)
I would definitely look into what are closed practices, as to avoid any cultural appropriation as many things like âhoney jarsâ or hoodoo powders are actually from closed or semi closed practices. It is important to know where these come from and itâs cultures as to avoid closed practices appropriation and to use some things like Nazar or chakras to know the significance and actual history and if you can work with them or not. Especially with spells or Deities or anything new.

I would definitely also look into some history of witchcraft and paganism (not just Wicca to the 1960âs history, but of the growth of witchcraft in the Renaissance era as well as traditional magic with the Greeks, to Celtic etc, as the impacts of those occultists, as some are very problematic like Crowley), as well as the impacts of other cultures and practices like Hinduism, Native American, Jewish Mysticism etc on modern western spirituality and giving that homage back to those cultures e.g chakras, yoga, spirit animals (closed practice), smudging, dream catchers, Kabbalah etc

If you saw my earlier post about beginning shadow work and are looking to explore your shadow self through journaling, Iâve included some beginning prompts that can help you get started! If any of these prove difficult, I encourage you to spend some time thinking through the topic and perhaps exploring it outside of your practice.
Write a letter to someone who has hurt you.
What grudges are you holding onto?Â
Who has helped you the most in your life?
What is your biggest insecurity? Biggest strength?Â
How can you use your strengths to overcome your insecurities?
Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Why?
What is a habit you have always wanted to have?
Write about a recurring dream you have and try to analyze it.Â
What careers/hobbies/activities draw you to them? Why?Â
Write a letter to yourself 5 years ago. What would you tell yourself?
Write a letter to yourself 5 years in the future. What do you hope has changed?
Do you feel that you have a good support system?
What is something that would greatly improve your life if you had it?Â
Do you consider yourself to be a jealous person?Â
These are the prompts that helped me the most when I was beginning my shadow work. If you have more general questions about what shadow work is or why practitioners recommend it, be sure to check out my earlier post!Â
As always, leave a comment if you have a prompt or practice that has helped you with your shadow work!Â

Iâm really sorry this took so long to answer I have been having the hardest time with executive dysfunction lately (ironically) and I procrastinated answering.

A lot of times I can tell that certain circumstances makes my executive dysfunction worse. And recognising these âtriggersâ can help you become more aware of your behaviors. Knowing what contributes to your executive dysfunction will help you work towards creating strategies to overcome it.
A few examples of my triggers:
Not getting dressed in the morning
Skipping mealsđł
Working from home đĄ
Not washing my face in the morningđ§ź
Not using my calendar đ
Skipping workouts đď¸ââď¸
Not brushing my teeth
Now a lot of these are tied to my physical health and hygiene and sometimes these are things that my exectutive dysfunction keep me from doing. But I try to look at them as medicine. I have to eat and brush my teeth and workout because it makes my brain and body happy. Itâs hard but with practice youâll get there.
By avoiding your triggers youâre at least setting yourself up for succsess. As silly as it sounds. Getting dressed in the morning can make the difference between lying on the couch all say and having anxiety because I havenât gotten anything done and actually being productive and beating my executive dysfunction.
I have a lot of issues with working memory. Itâs just not there a lot of days. I forget everything. When Iâm trying not to forget things, Iâm spending a lot more energy than non ADHD people just trying to remember. Now this is a lot of energy that you can save by simply writing it down. Use a planner or a to do list or fifty of them if you have to.
I use a very simple system for this. I take a piece of paper and write âto doâ then I make 2 seperate colums. Above the first I write âoverallâ or something like it. There I write down literally everything I can think of. âStudyâ âshowerâ âlaundryâ âmake to do listâ â âput away dirty socksâ âthink about what to make for dinnerâ whatever, big or small.
Once that list is finished, I write above the second column âtodayâ and I pick from the first list what things I need/want to have finished on the same day. Try not to go overboard with this one. Think baby steps. Itâs easy to become excited and think that youâre going to do everything because you often will get a burst of energy from planning stuff but stick to maybe 4-5 things a day at first.
Now the hardest part is to keep doing it. Usually you do really good for 2 weeks and then forget about it. Especially when the benefits are starting to show, you tend to forget your system because things are doing so good and then you stop and end up right where you started.
The way I (sort of) solved this was to make weekly âevaluationsâ. What I do is I sit down and evaluate how much I planned this week and how much of what I planned I actually acomplished. By doing this I held myself accountable.
Now if all else fails despite your best efforts and you have no energy or motivation to do any of the things you want/have to, this is a good strategy to get yourself into a more productive mindset or at least check one thing of your to-do list.
Itâs pretty much self-explanatory. You pick one thing and one thing only, even if you have a mountain of things that has to get done. Ignore them. All of them. They donât exist anymore, theyâre poofed out out existance for now.
Instead put your energy into doing one productive thing. After you finished the one thing youâre done. 100% done. No more doing stuff for you. You get to throw yourself back in bed if you like, or get a snack, whatever.
What usually happens however is that youâll feel more energized and motivated by having completed a task and youâll feel like continuing. If thatâs the case, GREAT, if not you at least got 1 thing done instead of nothing.
Iâm going to be brutally honest with you. This right hereâđťâđťâđťis what made the difference between passing and not passing my exams this year.
I struggled for a really long time with my studies, No matter if I spent 5 hours reading a text book it just. Didnât. Stick. And I used to get so upset because I was trying sooooo hard and everyone else could do it so why not me? It really lowered my motivation because no matter how hard I tried I always failed.
I watched hundreds of âhow to studyâ and âstudy tipsâ videos on youtube and read tumblr posts but I still never really understood why I was having such a hard time until I tried using flashcards and it changed my whole view on studying.
It turned out I wasnât stupid or lazy. I could understand everything on the page but as soon as I had read it, it was gone. I couldnât remember any of it so it didnât matter that I actually understood the subject quite well because I could never remember the contents.
What changed the game for me entirely was switching entirely over to flash cards and memory based studying. I went from failing entirely to actually getting really good results.
(A lot of people with ADHD struggle with memory so I would suggest always incorporating a lot of âmemory basedâ studying even if your best study technique is based on a different strategy)
The moral of the story is that sometimes we struggle without knowing why and itâs only by trying new things that we find out that maybe we werenât lacking the ability as much as we thought, we just needed the right key to unlock it.
I hope you find some of these tips at least a little bit helpful and i wish you luck with your studiesđâ¨
