Red Dwarf Spinterest Starting To Get To The Point Where I Can List Every Episode In Order From Memory

im trying to imagine what a red dwarf/doctor who crossover would be like and i cant decide which would be funnier between the doctor being in the red dwarf universe or the boys from the dwarf being in the doctor who universe

like on one hand we have the doctor who is usually the smart space/time know it all who knows just about everything about the universe and its existence and all that suddenly plonked in a universe where aliens dont actually exist, everything he comes into contact with ends up turning out to be a man-made gelf from earth, on a ship where he ends up knowing less about whats going on than the 4 greatest idiots existence can provide and hes just completely baffled at how theyve survived this long and continue to survive

and on the other hand we have the boys going rogue on the tardis & rimmer finally meeting actual aliens for the first time, lister would 1000% square up to a dalek or whatever it is they encounter while the doctor about drives himself mad trying to explain the danger of them and the boys r all just like "whatever weve seen weirder", kryten and the doctor exchanging sciencey-space knowledge & confusing each other with contradicting info from each of their respective realities, cat 100% would raid the tardis wardrobe and make fun of all the different fashion senses the doctors had over the years

met a bunch of red dwarf people at cons recently & have been collecting their autographs on my hamburger telephone

so far its been signed by doug naylor, hattie hayridge, craig charles, chris barrie, mark williams and danny john jules :D

if rimmer was half smart in mechocracy for his presidential campaign he couldve used anecdotes from his experience as a soft light hologram before he got his hard light drive .. like yeah to an extent he still wouldve been pulling absolute heaps of horseshit out of his ass but technically him being a hologram still makes him a machine in a way.

like when he was exclusively soft light he had a lot less actual autonomy as a machine as he most often had to rely on holly or the scutters to holographically project/do everything for him. if hed used that it wouldve added at least the tiniest grain of substance to his campaign but he just ... never mentioned that once & just focused on slagging kryten instead

back to earth gets a lot of hate compared to the rest of the show but i think theres something interesting to be said about the lack of laughing in it due to the lack of live audience

noticed this within the first scene between rimmer + lister in their sleeping quarters, it was the same kind of conversation theyd have at any other point with the same kind of comedic moments/quips between them & there were several moments where i can hear where they WOULDVE had some laughs from the audience, but there was just silence

& i just think its such a subtly interesting little insight into what life on the dwarf is actually like for THEM from THEIR perspectives, they dont find each other as hilarious as the rest of us do from the outside bc they generally just dont get along most of the time, they have no one other than each other for laughs or entertainment

lister & rimmer arguing or the cat being egotistical or literally any of the comedic interactions the live audience wouldve laughed at were just met with complete silence or frustration from the others, they cant see in from an outside perspective thats literally just the way they live alone with no one but each other for their entire lives

idk its just like an interesting little thing i noticed while im at this point in my rewatch n js started to think about

i wonder how the rest of the world/solar system/wherever people were living at that point responded to the radiation leak on red dwarf, if they all knew it was a radiation leak that wiped them out or if that info didnt get back to most of them, if its remembered as a historical event like the titanic or chernobyl, or if its a mystery that spirals into a bunch of mad conspiracy theories like the bermuda triangle or the loch ness monster

does it go down in history as "the mysterious case of the disappearing crew of red dwarf" or is it commonly known as "the red dwarf radiation leak tragedy"? did holly manage to get the information back to them?? or did they not even know the crew disappeared at all & just saw the ship start ominously floating out into space without any explanation

if they do know it was a radiation leak do they know why it happened?? do they know it was because rimmer didnt fix the drive plate properly & if so did he become a historical figure as "the guy who wiped out the red dwarf crew" or do they just know it was a botched drive plate with no other specifics??

did they know there was still a guy in stasis on the ship who had survived?? did they ever try to go on a rescue mission to get him?? did they find out about the cat race evolving on the ship???
