I was pretty unsatisfied with it and I’m pretty happy with these new drawings. Here’s some I made before coming to this:

The vague story/idea behind this is “The Sun and Moon love each other but can only see each other during an Eclipse and that makes them sad”.

The drawing of Weiss is @KytyAnimation’s (on Twitter) own contest entry and I thought it was so beautiful. 

Had no idea what I was doing color wise for Blake and Penny. Weiss was surprisingly easy though, probably because red, black, white, and gold look great together and I already knew Weiss would look amazing in purple (since I’ve made Weiss outfits with purple before and they looked great). 

Weiss’s earrings are supposed to be candy apples and her necklace is supposed to be a poisoned apple. (Does anyone else think she looks a little vampiric in the red & black dress variants?)

AceOps Recolor inspired by Winter’s Vol 3 outfit. I always really loved Winter’s OG outfit and using it as the basis for the rest of the Atlesian military would look good without dipping too closely into Weiss’ palette.

and an accompanying Jekyll that I came up with myself (because I don’t think scarperseus ever designed a Jekyll).

For Jekyll’s design I used Hyde as a basis and worked backwards. Kept the facial structure mostly the same, since I like Hyde designs that look like a young Jekyll, but tried to make him look in his fifties.

Gave him regular brown eyes to contrast Hyde’s bright orange ones. Added glasses because I thought they would look nice and highlight his age.

The hair was me trying to imagine what Hyde’s hair would look like if it wasn’t messy. Switched the greys and browns around so Jekyll has mostly grey hair except for his brown bangs.

Like I said in my WIP post I was pretty interested in giving Weiss a militaristic look (because she looks up to Winter):

Her earrings are supposed to be upside down roses. Inspired by this on Pinterest: 

Didn’t intend for Weiss to have the other girls’ colors, but I’m not unhappy about it.

The red streak was inspired by art from @Hiru3152. I am aware it could look like Christmas, but Weiss is winter themed so I think it’s less of a big deal than if it was Ruby.

I’ve become interested in Ruby wearing pink/not being goth ever since I saw Judgemental Critter’s design for Ruby for her Reversed Fates AU series (it’s really good please check it out!) The pink top variants were directly inspired by that design actually.

@swirlmup commented on my last Ruby post and said the lighter greens worked better than the dark greens so I leaned into that. 

I’m starting to realize a lineless style isn’t great for trying out multiple color variations quickly. It creates a lot of layers and makes changing colors very tedious.

Here’s variations on a Ruby outfit. (I know I put up a poll but I got impatient. I am working on the outfit that won the poll though, which was B.)

The cloak was inspired by the Fixing RWBY redesign (made by the Sketchy Huntsman, specifically the wonderful @swirlmup and @butterflybluelady)! Is the emblem on her skirt and her cloak too much? I’ve always been interested in adding green to Ruby’s pallette (like the stem of the rose), but I’m always afraid she’ll end up looking like Christmas. How did I do? The yellow bow was a reference to my Blake redesign (and Yang):

I feel like I was less experimental with her color palette than my recent Weiss redesign. But you can’t make her outfit too red because she has her giant red cloak. Ruby might become a big red blob with too much red, and the black works so well to emphasize the red. (I guess what ain’t broke don’t fix it?) Do you think making the black of her outfit a very very dark green or blue? Maybe I should have tried using dark brown as an accent color. I was also afraid of making Ruby less goth/emo since it’s a unique trait of hers that I like and differentiates her from other characters with similar personalities.

Yang edit based on advice from @thatguythatdrawsalot. Actually finished 99% of it in October (2024) but gave up when I couldn’t figure out what to do with her neck. Decided to just draw the first necklace that came to mind to finish and post it. Have a great day!!!
