What i thought we'd get with alicent being Rhaenyra's age and "friend"":
An ambitious young woman who befriended the princess to be in the upper echelons of society and close to the crown/crown princess in order to manipulate her/be closer to viserys in order to manipulate his feelings before/after aemma in order to become queen and work hard and use the secrets/insecurities she discovered as the princess' best friend/lady in waiting against rhaenyra in order to have her son crowned king one day
What we got: a bland, boring 2D character with no agency or goals or ambitions who hides the fact her son his a rapist, who insists she's the victim of the story and chalks everything up to an unfortunate accident cause she's never done anything wrong ever and only ever been used by everyone in her life 🙄 (this is sarcasm i loathe show alicent more than any other asoiaf character)
I see so many people commenting on Aegon III and Viserys II’s decision not to officially declare their mother the Queen after the war.
For some strange reason, it’s regarded as sons spurning their mother, and not a true sacrifice of their beliefs in order to ensure peace and prosperity in the Realm after a terrible war.
Rhaenyra’s boys were all loyal to her and they loved her until the end. Not one of them declared her a pretender. In their hearts, they knew she had been the rightful Queen, but they agreed to a great injustice, they agreed to make peace with their enemies, just so the people wouldn’t suffer anymore.
Now, my question is this: if the roles were reversed, and the Greens had been the ones who won the war, would they have agreed to keep Rhaenyra’s title as “Queen” in histories for the sake of peace?
Not on your life.
And that is what makes the Blacks better than the Greens.
everyone talks about how alicent "deserves" to put aegon on the throne because of everything that happened to her after marrying viserys, but what about aemma? the one who had to marry him when she was twelve and had to go through five miscarriages before giving birth to rhaenyra at fifteen and later died on birth?
"In King’s Landing, however, Queen Alicent grew most wroth when she learned the babe had been named Aegon, taking that for a slight against her own son Aegon"
Rhaenyra gave birth to the perfect Aegon, who by the age of ten had lost half his family, his dragon, witnessed the horrific execution of his own mother, and got traumatized for life, but was still a better man, brother, husband, and king than the cheap parody of a Targaryen that the usurper was.
I just knew they were going to delete daemon taking KL for rhaenyra , I just knew it .
Now it’s alicent’s plan and work that got rhaenyra KL and put her on the throne not daemon’s
This show is a joke
"History will paint you a villain"
Fourth wall breaking to make us believe what they're putting in Rhaenyra's mouth.
Alicent went to Rhaenyra's wedding wearing the colors her House use for war, which created the Green and Black teams. She knew what she was doing.
Alicent was the only one who actively hated Rhaenyra's children to be bastards. Corlys and Rhaenys didn't really care, Rhaenyra's own husband didn't care, Viserys was totally happily in denial. Cole hated it, but his opinion doesn't matter.
Alicent made it a big deal, raised Aegon to be scared of Rhaenyra when he had no true animosity towards his sister before. And telling her son to spare Rhaenyra after years of telling him he was a challenge for her and would die if she becomes queen, was silly.
She helped put Aegon on the throne, and when learnt she was wrong to do so, started to show disdain for him that led Aegon to take his dragon to battle and get burnt.
Then, at his weakest state, she accepted Rhaenyra's deal that includes the murder of her son. The very son who did not want to be king in the first place. Just so she could run away with Helaena and her daughter. She is literally fleeing what she helped causing. She could protect Helaena and Jaehaera and stay in KL to be by her sons' sides and accepts the same sentence she put on them. But no, she still wants a way out of this mess.
So, the writers telling us, through Rhaenyra of all people, "Alicent is a only a victim of patriarchy and will be paint as a villain" is so stupid. Yes, she is a victim. But it doesn't justify all she did. In season two, she marvels at how messed up her boys are, when all their life they heard her complain about Rhaenyra and her bastard children, how Aemond lost an eye and how Lucaerys should have lost his too, that Rhaenyra will murder Aegon in cold blood when she becomes queen (before he usurped her).
So, yes, she is a villain and history will rightfully paint her as such. That doesn't make her a bad character, nor does it mean all victims become villains in turn; Rhaenys is a victim of patriarchy too, Rhaenyra and her mum, the servant girl who Aegon sexually assaulted, all the women of the story are victims of that.
Aegon IVs top 10 most iconic moments:
10. Naming those hills “Barba’s Teets” and then renaming them “Missy’s Teets” when Barba insults Missy’s breast size.
9. Trying to invade Dorne only to not even make it to shore because his whole fleet was wrecked by a storm.
8. Burning down 1/4 of the Kingswood and killing hundreds of people while trying to build wooden dragons for his Dornish invasion. Then immediately giving up on invading Dorne and pretending like nothing happened.
7. Showing up at Whitewalls, impregnating Lord Butterwell’s 3 daughters, and giving him a dragons egg as a reward.
6. Gifting Blackfyre to his bastard son Daemon.
5. Killing his father, Viserys II, thereby robbing the realm of potentially the best king it may have ever seen.
4. Creating Bloodraven.
3. Helping Daena escape the Maidens’ Vault and impregnating her, thereby both creating Daemon Blackfyre and also indirectly causing Baelor the Blessed to kill himself.
2. Spreading rumors that Daeron is his brother’s bastard just to undermine his own heir purely out of spite.
1. Legitimizing all his bastards on his death bed so he can keep being everyone’s problem for another 80 years.
Queens at Dragonstone
I love Barristan, he rly is Ser Grandpa in the best possible way.
I feel so bad for him like bro deserved to life in a better world, he's not perfect and is definitely a product of his environment but his heart is in the right place. I also think about how he's interestingly contrasted w the other shitter Queensguard. "What did she look like, your Lady Lynesse?"
Ser Jorah smiled sadly. "Why, she looked a bit like you, Daenerys." He bowed low. "Sleep well, my queen."
ACOK - Daenerys I
Even after all these years, Ser Barristan could still recall Ashara's smile, the sound of her laughter. He had only to close his eyes to see her, with her long dark hair tumbling about her shoulders and those haunting purple eyes. Daenerys has the same eyes. Sometimes when the queen looked at him, he felt as if he were looking at Ashara's daughter…
ADWD - The Kingbreaker
They both see their former love in Dany but importantly Barristan sees Dany as Ashara's child whereas Jorah sees Lynesse herself. AND that's why Jorah is a creepy ped0phile and Barristan is a compassionate surrogate grandpa whomst we like.
I'm Jorah's strongest hater.
If Jorah has million haters, then I'm one of them. If Jorah has one hater, then I'm THAT ONE. If Jorah has no haters, that means I'm dead.
Rhaenyra at 16:
— took possession of Dragonstone as her own seat
— sailed and hunted
— sat at the foot of the Iron Throne when her father held court and attended small council meetings
— attended feasts and made allies
Aegon at 16:
— was lazy boy
— given to swilling ale and strongwine
— pinching and fondling any serving girl who strayed within his reach
I know that the Greens weren’t even the slightest bit of politically competent in book canon, but it’s even more exaggerated in the show.
Vhagar is their answer for everything. They have nothing else. It’s pathetic, really.
And it’s even more pathetic to believe this dragon to be some sort of unbeatable force.
Rhaenyra has six full grown dragons + four teenage ones and a baby one.
Power exists in numbers.
Two of any of the Blacks’ grown dragons can bring her down easily. She may be experienced and large, but she is old, confused and tired.
Caraxes alone was more than a match for Vhagar.
